Who has tried this guy? Is he legit? |
Princeofnigeria:It's such a shame that these guys sold Instagram for peanuts back then. If they had waited just a bit. I imagine instagram would have been worth at least $10 - 20b. |
Very interesting thread. |
HelpMySoul:Forget the detractors, I'm a big fan and I can deduce the nuggets of sense you're making with your ideas... Don't end the thread abeg, ride on. Pls provide some extra clues... Is this idea a product or service offering? If it's a product, is it locally sourced and what is the logistical requirement? Any other helpful clues and general insights without necessarily mentioning the koko. |
Where is Pa Jimoh |
webincomeplus:It better be earning at least $5k-$7k monthly. |
qanda:It depends on what you're selling, and your target market. If you're in Lagos selling something to a desperate potential customer in Kaduna (which is the 'borderless' idea behind Internet driven businesses), I'm not sure he will be too bothered about your office. I've paid Seun over N100k to advertise some of my services here on Nairaland, and I'm sure hundreds or thousands of other 'customers' have done same. None of us have bothered to ask Seun where his office is. We don't even know whether he is a human or an alien but we happily paid him for the service he is rendering. That's online business. |
millionboi2:You would need lots of capital, smarts, patience and good fortune to make it really big in this kind of business. I think it is far easier for a nobody with little capital to make it big using online platforms and tools than doing it the physical way. Besides online business (eCommerce) would eventually be bigger than brick and mortar business (physical business as you put it). It's only a matter of Internet penetration. |
millionboi2:What do you mean by physical business? |
Excellent. Nos. 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9 are non-negotiable as far as I am concerned. Those are the absolutely most important features I look out for. |
Seo is dead. Now Google does whatever it likes whenever it likes. You're basically at Google's mercy, no matter what you do in the form of seo. |
Lol. Jumia affiliate program is a scam. I'm done with the fraudulent nonsense. Just that I've been too lazy to wipe off all of their useless affiliate links from my Nigeria focused site. They deliberately fail to record conversions. Either an order isn't recorded at all, or it is recorded, put on 'pending' and soon branded as 'rejected'. I'm super sure of this because I've secretly bought items using my own on-site affiliate links four times (for testing purposes). Twice it wasn't recorded at all, and once it was recorded and later 'rejected', even after the item was delivered to me and duly paid for. I'd advise webmasters to delete the crap jumia affiliate links from their sites immediately. I've not tried Konga, so I don't know if they're better. But nothing beats the big boys like Amazon. Only yesterday alone that's the first of the month, I've recorded two sales out of mere 7 clicks. Since I started the Amazon affiliate program, I've never had any conversion "rejected". And payments come every month end like clockwork, on time every time.

This should be interesting. We hustlers are always eager to learn something new. You never can tell the little spark that can trigger the huge flame of incredible wealth. Ride on my brother. We're with you. |
emmalexdboy:.. Thanks buddy. |
Who can suggest the cheapest dot com domain + hosting plan (maybe promo offers) at the moment. I don't need Nigerian operators please. I have a loose $12 on a random card and want to use it to register and set up a new experimental site. |
With the frightening rate at which most browsers are implementing default ad blocking, I wonder what the near future might hold for publishers relying on income form Adsense and other display ads. This phenomenon of ad blocking is my biggest concern. |
It just dawned on me that this Google update penalised lengthy posts and Yoast-compliant high keyword density, which Google now probably sees as spammy. The conventional wisdom of 'long posts (2k+) tend to rank' is now doubtful. The update is all about quality content. But unlike before now when post length was seen as an indicator of content quality. |
This recaptcha thing is ridiculous. If it doesn't ask you to click on images with cars, it is images with store front, road, buses, street signs and so on. Most times even when you get it right, the thing disappears and asks you to start all over again. And then in the middle of it all, an error message would sometimes appear saying "Cannot contact reCAPTCHA. Check your connection and try again." The worst part is that so many websites are now using it for their login pages. I have even abandoned most websites that use it, including my Jumia affiliate page and productivity sites like simplenote.com that I previously used everyday. I simply can't stand this Google recaptcha because sometimes I waste more than 10 minutes trying to login to somewhere. It is annoying and I wonder why Google can't come up with anti spambot solutions that are easier, smarter and more user friendly. Maybe we should start to boycott websites that use this rubbish. |
MrJanuzaj:Why are most of you Buhari or is it APC supporters so arrogant and undemocratic? My vote doesn't count cos we're in a military regime or because APC is Nigeria's version of the NAZI party or what? Get a life bro. |
Alas, Osibanjo for president. Field him as APC candidate and he would have my vote! |
3html:.. You can imagine. Livestrong and Draxe. |
3html:Good insight, but hmmm, I'm not happy with this development. I just went back now to Google search some of the keywords for which my posts ranked first on Google (at least for Google.com.ng searches). Most of the first position ranking gone! I usually out ranked Nairaland and even local newspaper sites (Vanguard, Thisday etc) topics related to the posts, but now Nairaland and the newspapers posts (even without the keywords in the titles) outrank mine! I also normally out ranked Jumia and Amazon in some cases (for product related posts), but now all relegated below these sites.... And we know that most searchers don't bother to go below the first two or three search engine results. I swear down I have never been so discouraged about this blogging of a thing. If Google is favouring the so-called high authority sites, that means they're monopolising the Internet. That can't be a good thing. The Internet isn't a place to do that, cos it's not like real life where many people would rather shop for basic things at their local store or kiosk than go all the way to Shoprite. On the Internet, the biggest will take it all, hence killing off all smaller competition (if Google prefers to favour the big guns). So if authority (rather than actual seo value of the post) is the key ranking metric, then I that's messed up.. It's either you're big or you're nothing. Please tell me I'm wrong. |
No wonder. I was wondering what happened. I lost about 45% traffic and adsense earnings reduced significantly within the last two weeks. For someone like me who was planning to invest about N500k to drive growth on my Nigeria focused blog (hire writers, do marketing and consistently pump out strong content) in the last quarter of this year, this kind of thing is very discouraging. One has to evaluate how sustainable this blogging thing is, especially as a reliable life time passive income stream. Cos that's all I was hoping to achieve. Seriously, there's nothing worse than one's income being tied to someone else's whims and caprices. If your livelihood is tied to Google or Amazon, these guys can wake up one morning and decide to change their algorithms, payment terms, commissions, etc and thus leave you in the lurch. The ultimate goal is to control your own destiny to the extent possible. |
luveu:We're still waiting for him to sack Kemi Adeosun, or to show us that the NYSC certificate forgery allegation is false, so I really don't know. Anyrime I see people supporting him blindly here, I just wonder. Our problem is not bad leadership. It is bad followership. |
Post the tools here. |
Apples and oranges. Ben Bruce has always been an Americana entrepreneur. It's a private choice for him to send his child to school abroad or not. Whether he is a senator or not doesn't change his lifestyle and what he can afford. We all know MBGN, we all know Silverbird. We all know STV and Rhythm. Big businesses. But Buhari really hasn't done anything economically viable to earn enough money to afford that lifestyle of sending children to school abroad or travelling to London to treat every little thing. Was he even doing that before he became president? He has been feeding fat on Nigeria since day one, so there's nothing private about him. He can't claim private entitlement when all his income has been from public funds. Besides, he is the president so he's our top cultural ambassador who should lead by example. No need to abuse Ben Bruce for this. |
This man doesn't have any political ambition. He just wants to chop campaign funds released by the APC for Enugu governorship election, and maybe get an appointment as compensation later if Buhari wins a second term. |
bazetrend:Frankly the only viable option is good old SEO and backlinks building. It requires lots of patience before you start seeing results though. |
