First of all Achebe is a black man that wrote a novel that has been translated into over 50 languages worldwide. Achebe and Soyinka are great frends that hold nigeria at heart. remember that before Mamman Vatsa a fellow writer was to be killed for a phantom coup, achebe,soyinka,okigbo and some other top writers in nigeria went to the presidency to plead for the life of their fellow writer who was not an IGBO or a YORUBA but a nigerian by birth,a writer by profession and a human being with blood. babangida promised them to do something about it but hardly had they left the presidential villa when they heard that he had been shot and guess what these writers were all in the same car. did u notice unity amongst them.they exhibited unity and prayed that Mamman Vatsa the great poet be spared. if u think i am lieing ask Soyinka.
