The Nation reports that former president Goodluck Jonathan reportedly left N13.6 billion loot recovered from former Head of State, late General Sani Abacha in the Nigerian treasury. According to The Nation, this was much disclosed by Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom in a chat journalists at the end of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the state house, Abuja. Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan left billions of Abacha loot for the present administration. He said: “He revealed that Abacha loot as at the end of November 2015, stood at $26,000,389 and £19,000,033 for the dollar and pound accounts respectively. “We were also briefed on updates on Abacha loots in Council. The Accountant General of the Federation reported that the dollar account as at November 2015 ending has a balance of $ 26,000,389.00 while the pounds sterling has a balance of £19,000,033.00. That is where we are today.” Ortom also stated that with the exchange rate of N260 per dollar and N360 per pound, the total balance is estimated at N13.6 billion. Some students have also hailed the former president for some of the things he implemented during his stay as the country’s leader, especially with the establishment of some private tertiary institutions in the country. https://www.naij.com/671107-check-out-the-staggering-amount-of-abacha-loot-jonathan-left-for-president-buhari.html |
Nigerian marriage ceremonies are usually entertaining as our cultures are diverse and beautiful. The glamorous dressings, dances, and drinking all embedded into one on the day of union which is but just a day to mark the beginning of a journey called "Marriage". But there is more to it than the wedding celebrations. In the Nigerian setting, there are issues that have militated lots of divorces over the years in different homes. When a marriage fails, it doesn't necessarily mean the couples have divorced each other. In this context, it means that its essence, purpose or significance is now out of place. Certain other negative issues are now in charge, causing lots of family mistakes which leads to several fights and quarrels in the home. Most times, it is never the desire of the couples involved to quarrel or fight each other but it is because some crucial things were not in place or rather handled before and in marriage. Below are the reasons; * Absence Of Self-Discovery: When an individual has failed to have a proper knowledge of him/herself in terms of purpose, how well can such a person be married to another individual? When you discover who you are, you will be able to marry someone who is a good match to your personality, but whenever this is absent. There will always be misunderstandings as both couples will never reach any conclusions on matters relating to their home. The disastrous effect of this is that even when they have children, they will still have this same issues to handle and it will end up exposing their children to having a knowledge of their parents' weaknesses at a very tender age and this for sure is never good for child growth as it affects them negatively. So you see that it is necessary that you have a good knowledge of yourself in order to be who and what you are supposed to be and as well be with whom you are supposed to be with. * Lack Of Proper Home Training: This may sound harsh and as well funny to some persons but actually it in some homes make couple union fail as its effects are usually negative. When an individual is not disciplined from home, in marriage he/she will find it hard to maturely be responsible to certain activities of the home and hence will keep putting the other couple off and gradually the union will collapse. Some of these acts which depicts lack of good home training could be like when a man fails to respect his wife(maybe he insults or beats her at will); it could be that his father never respected his mother and so he learned that while growing up. Another practical example is when a woman expects her husband to clean up the house after or before work while she bothers only about her manicure, pedicure treatment and other materialistic issues that has no business or connection with the home. We could keep counting more and more examples of such. In some regions in Nigeria if such should be found of a woman, the husband would return her back to her parents and ask of them to teach her how to be a wife. It may sound funny and hilarious but actually it's a serious matter which needs to be addressed for homes to stand firm to its essence. * Selfish Interest: Selfish interest in this context stands for some certain behaviours or habits exhibited by couples which irritates their spouses. Acts of selfishness which in turn becomes a maltreatment of the other whether consciously or unconsciously. These acts have led to different divorce cases as couples are sometimes heard making utterances like "I can't take it any longer" or "I have had enough of this". The things they complain of being fed up of are actually acts which portray selfishness. An examples of this acts is when a wife constantly demands for or spends money to keep being up to date with trending fashions while there are other serious problems in the home that needs financial attention. Another example is when a man claims to have no money with him to support his family and still goes out to bars to drink and cheat on his wife and children. Attitudes like these have given rise to the number of broken homes in Nigeria. * Imitative Lifestyle: This is a trending habit that Nigerian newly married couples are beginning to put up which has actually yielded negative results. Some of them try to imitate other couples forgetting the fact that every marriage union has its own distinct unique purpose which is different from others. When this comes into play, there are pending dangers which will crash the union in little or no time. Another dimension of this imitative lifestyle is when one out of two couples decides to imitate a particular personality and in turn demands certain satisfactions which his/her spouse can't offer. Definitely there will be problems which will tamper the peace they both have and hence their marriage may begin to fall instead of growing. Trying to be what you are not in a marriage setting will only cook up troubles that are poisonous to the proper growth of the home. * Unpreparedness: Marriage is not something to be jumped into without being fully prepared for it. A popular speaker once said "A marriage you did not prepare for will prepare you when you get there". It is very necessary that you get yourself prepared both mentally, physically, spiritually, financially and otherwise before you embark on the journey of it. When you are prepared for it, you will be bold enough to face the challenges that comes with it. Most people who got divorced did so because in a way they were never ready to face it with all they are and so they wanted out. They gave it up. Would you wish for such to be your story? If not, why not stop being desperate as a single lady or man and be sure that you're fully prepared for it. Don't be expectant of it because your friends or age mates are getting married. Such is never a good reason to base on to make a decision about marriage. Get positively prepared to be able and matured enough to be responsible in marriage. The above points are my own opinion on why some Nigerian marriages don't work out well. Feel free to add yours. |
Members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have raised the alarm over the attempt by the All Progressives Congress-led government to subtly enlist Nigeria among Arab nations to fight ISIS and other terrorist organisations. It had been earlier reported that Saudi Arabia was building a coalition of Muslim/Arab countries to fight ISIS and Nigeria was listed among the 34 countries. Vanguard reports that Rev. Musa Asake, the general secretary of the CAN, issued a statement accusing President Muhammadu Buhari and the federal government of betrayal. “This singular gesture of the Buhari government betrays so much, and tends to confirm our fears that underneath everything this government is doing, there is an agenda with strong Islamic undertones, aimed at undermining Nigeria’s pluralistic character and neutrality regarding government’s affiliation to any one religion. “While joining hands with other countries to fight ISIS is something good, our country must not be tagged as a Muslim or Arab nation. Christians must make a public statement showing their discontent on this development which portends great danger to national unity and integration,” the statement read. Meanwhile, Ona Ekhomu, the president of the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria, warned the government that recent intelligence intercepts indicated that an ISIS attack on Nigeria was imminent. Instead of waiting for the attack to occur just like it happened in France, Ekhomu urged the federal government to call on Nigerians who can help forestall it. https://www.naij.com/669691-can-blasts-buhari-agenda-strong-islamic-undertones.html/?anna&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_group=free |

Olusegun Obasanjo, a two-time democratic president of Nigeria, has disclosed that he became an impartial Nigerian when he withdrew from all partisan politics shortly after his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) membership card was torn. Olusegun Obasanjo The erstwhile president who made this statement on the night of Tuesday, December 15, at a dinner organized in his honour by Governor Samuel Ortom during his private visit in Makurdi, Benue state capital, said on that on that note, he owed nobody any apology for his commitment to the Nigerian project, The Guardian reports. Further in his statement, the former president said that the recent dislosure that the governor made regarding the fact that he was once a motor park tout at his youthful age, was similar to his humble beginnings. Ex-president Obasanjo also said that because of such history, he was in 2014 called a tout at his old age. Obasanjo said: “There is no age, poverty, status, gender, position barrier in acquiring education and the day one stops learning is the day you also start dying.” The former PDP stalwart said maintained that acquisition of knowledge should be from birth to death. On the plans of the Benue governor which he termed ‘Ortom blueprint’, Obasanjo gave a eulogy to it, describing it as an embodiment of good governance. He further added that he must take note of all his promises, urging the people to help the state governor succeed. Expressing his sympathy to the governor and the entire Tiv people over the death of their paramount ruler, His Royal Highness Alfred Akawe Torkula who recently passed on, Obasanjo used the opportunity to urge the farmers in the country to join hands together to provide food security, create employment and create wealth for the Nigerian citizens. In his remarks, Governor Ortom commended the former president for his contributions to the political development of Nigeria. The governor said the people of the state including him admired Obasanjo’s courage and zeal in his pursuit for knowledge even after acquiring so much in life. Governor Ortom stressed that his administration was committed to good governance and the necessary core values which he said are currently absent in the polity. The former president asked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) to make sure it fulfills the promises made to the electorates prior to the 2015 general elections. www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/12/i-owe-nobody-apology-for-commitment-to-nigeria-says-obasanjo/ |

As we come closer to the end of the year, we look at some of 2015’s unforgettable embarrassing moments for some of our Nigerian celebrities. For most of them, the year was smooth and wonderful while for others, it had its ups and downs. Below are the top five unforgettable embarrassing celebrity moments this year. 1. Denrele falls off the stage Denrele Edun, one of Nigeria’s popular TV presenters and red carpet host, known for his crazy lifestyle, might have had a good time this year. But about three months ago, while the TV star was displaying his “crase” as usual on stage by whipping his braids around and jumping around in his signature platform boots, he took a step too far and fell off the stage, into the crowd. Social media had a field day with that one, with clips and memes shared from Instagram to Twitter and Facebook. However, in his characteristic style, the TV personality owned his embarrassing moment, sharing it himself more than once on Instagram. 2. Sean Tizzle’s meltdown over Omawumi’s Hello cover The Nigerian artist known for his good music and good looks was so close to having a very smooth year but at the last moment decided to react – overreact – to one of singer Omawumi’s cover of Hello by the British singer Adele. Sean Tizzle actually deemed Omawumi’s version of the song way better than the original – which debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US – and lambasted Nigerians for not appreciating their own. His comments did not sit too well with Nigerians on social media, who mercilessly mocked him for assuming that Adele’s version was a cover to begin with. 3. KCee as the face (and body) of Air Peace Nigeria The Five Star music act got an ambassadorial deal with Nigerian airline Air Peace and decided to share the good news with his fans on social media by putting up an advert for the company in which he featured. Unfortunately, he miscalculated the magnanimity of Nigerians. The advert which pictured KCee looking peaceful on a pillow in the skies made him the butt of jokes on social media. A subsequent campaign that showed KCee as a member of a cabin crew on one of Air Peace’s planes was equally not well received. 4. Solid Star and the Headies Awards After releasing various singles this year, singer Solid Star was confident that he would be nominated at the Headies Awards, which he was – in two categories. But the Omotena singer was not satisified so he took to Twitter to make his grievance known and demand one more nomination. He received a lot of backlash form fans for this totality #NoChill moment. 5. The skiibii death hoax. This is a good example of when a PR stunt goes too far. Five Star Music, which houses KCee and Harrysong, received a lot of backlash and condemnation in the media when it announced the death and subsequent “resurrection” of one of its artists, Skiibii. The label’s manger, Soso Sobrekan, in August “leaked” information to some bloggers about the death of Skiibii who was newly signed to the label at the time. In a swift turnaround, singer KCee later that day denied that Skiibii was dead but had only suffered a blackout. Soon, the barely known singer’s name was trending all over the internet. Soso was eventually “fired” for the poorly thought out stunt and Skiibii leveraged on his notoriety by releasing a single mere days after supposedly knocking on death’s door. Nigerians hated being taken for a ride and little has been heard of the singer since. Meanwhile, Five Star despite several overtures in the media was lambasted for playing with something as serious as death. https://www.naij.com/666345-2015inreview-top-5-nigerian-celebrities-publicly-embarrassed-year.html

There are some ongoing speculations that popular music star Davido is expecting his second child; but not with his baby mama, Sophie Momodu this time around. Reports have it that the lady in question is a Tanzanian socialite, by the name Agnes Masogange. It was alleged that the whole seed planting encounter happened on November 2015 when Davido and his gang hung out with some Tanzanian girls on his birthday, and what was supposed to be a fun outing turned a tad humiliating as his team talked about having sex with the uncomprehending girls in Yoruba language. One of the girls, Agnes Masogange, who shared the details of the meeting on her IG page, is now claiming to be pregnant and hinted that Davido is responsible for it. Last night she posted a photo of Davido’s HKN necklace and captioned it ‘I’m missing him’, and quickly after that, she shared the result of her pregnancy test. See them: Though she didn’t make any statement, her intent was clear, and as soon as she kicked off the controversy among her followers, she deleted both posts. So, now, we are wondering, Davido, self- acclaimed Omo Baba Olowo, going to be a father again?

On Monday, December 7, 2015, Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari presided over the Federal Executive Council (FEC), where a total of N6.04 trillion was approved as Nigeria’s expenditure for 2016 budget under the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF). Eyebrows were raised and observers believe the budgetary provisions far outweigh the country’s previous budgets, in fact, it remains the highest by any Nigerian leader ever. But, there are certain conditions responsible for this rise (of about 15%) in the budget, as well as certain changes to the ‘business as usual’ budgets of Nigeria, believed to be Africa’s largest economy. Naij.com has identified five stunning facts every Nigerian should take cognizance of as the west African nation commences on a year-long spending. 1. No more kerosene subsidy Although not clearly stated, the president has tacitly done away with kerosene subsidy in the new expenditure of the Nigerian nation as there was no clear provision for it in the budget submitted to the council. Nigerians queuing for kerosene during a certain period of scarcity. This may reduce in the coming years. Although it is yet to be seen how this will improve the nation’s economy, there are indications that this new move by the president, who has been increasingly criticised for his late submission of the budget, will go a long way in ensuring that the country does not spend as much as it used to in that sector of the ecenomy. 2. Two sources have been identified for funding of the budget After the approval of the president’s budget presented at the FEC, the minister of budgetary and national planning, Senator Udo Udoma informed that the country is looking at sourcing funds from two different sources. He told journalists that Nigeria is looking at increasing non-oil revenue. This means that more money will be demanded from the various government agencies, and their revenues will be closely monitored by the federal government with a view to getting more money from them. President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war will also serve as a source of funding for the budget. The minister also informed that the recurrent budget for this year would be narrowed down drastically as the country is looking at a situation where savings from overheads take serious prominence. Aside these two major sources identified to fund the budget for next year, President Buhari’s anti- corruption battle which is toughening up by the passing of each day, is expected to be responsible for about N350.33 billion in 2016. 3. Four key areas top the budgetary allocations Power, health, education and agriculture are topmost on the president’s mind for next year’s spendings as they have taken more priority. To show his diversification of the economy from what it used to be seriously dependent on, agriculture, alongside power, take top spot in the budget, a situation which the country had not witnessed in the past budgets in the last 10 years. Both sectors are likely to gulp a total of N200billion each, which is about 20 percent of the total budget. This clearly shows President Buhari’s reason for the appointment of former Lagos state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola to head the power sector which has suffered huge setbacks in the country and his (Fashola’s) subsequent meeting with Dr Ibe Kachikwu of the petroleum resources ministry. President Muhammadu Buhari seems to have entrusted so much into the hands of Babatunde Fashola It is believed that the president made the appointment based on his belief that Fashola would not hesitate to step on shoes when he swings into full action n the coming years. And since the president already stated that it is unwise and unsafe for the country to keep depending on the oil and gas sector for survival, the agriculture sector, under the watchful eyes of Chief Audu Ogbeh and Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, will also major role to play in the diversification of the economy. 4. Nigeria already made provisions to borrow N1.835.88trillion Apart from domestically generating fund to finance the expenditure for the next fiscal year, the budget indicated that the present federal administration is to borrow the sum of N1.835.88 trillion. This is further broken down thus: the sum of N1.2 trillion would be borrowed domestically while foreign borrowing would be pegged at N635.88 trillion for the period under review. Nigeria will need to borrow N1.8trillion to fund the budget next year. Although the fresh policies and measures to taken by the president are in a bid to encourage the rapid diversification of the Nigerian economy away from its current over-dependence on the oil and gas sector, the nation will still have to seek assistance on how to go about some of its projects. The capital projects (the country’s focus for next year), rather than recurrent expenditures, it was gathered, will take about 30% of the entire allocation. 5. Oil price benchmark for 2016 is fixed at $38 per barrel In the last two years, oil prices have been consistently inconsistent, with Nigeria, Africa’s leading oil exporter and producer, suffering a huge loss during this period. This is apparently responsible for the cut in the oil price to an all-time low of $38 per barrel of crude oil with a projection of 2.2 million production barrels per day, according to the framework for the budget. This graph shows the slumping oil prices has heavily affected Nigeria’s oil revenues. Source: NNPC Although the country is not totally deviating from oil production and exportation as one of its key areas, the over-dependence on the sector and the corruption linked to it in recent years, especially with the infamous indictment of former petroleum minister, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke in a $ 20billion fraud, will seemingly reduce in the coming years. Thus, the expectations from the sector is in line with the economic realities of the moment within the country. https://www.naij.com/663618-5-stunning-facts-every-nigerian-know-president-buharis-2016-budget.html?damilare&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_group=free |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate in Kogi State, Mr. James Abiodun Faleke has said he will not attend the swearing in ceremony with Alhaji Yahaya Bello on January 27, 2016. Faleke, who stated this yesterday in Kabba at a meeting of APC stakeholders from Kogi West senatorial district, said this was in furtherance of an earlier letter to the national leadership of the party not to work with Bello, the governor-elect. The politician, who reacted to resolutions reached at the meeting said he will pursue the legal option to a logical conclusion, adding that the Audu/Faleke ticket remained intact and unchanged. “I will not disappoint late Prince Abubakar Audu. I, James Abiodun Faleke, will not be there for the swearing in if we don’t finish the case before January 27, 2016. “Nobody consulted me before making me a deputy to Bello. Bello, too, did not consult me. I have made my position known to the party leadership on this. I am not ready to betray and disappoint late Audu,” he said. Governor Idris Wada’s tenure ends on January 27, 2016. Regardless, Faleke exonerated President Muhammadu Buahri from the crisis, saying the president he knows cannot be a party to injustice and outright violation of the rule of law. In a related development, Bello has been warned not to celebrate just yet. This was the opinion of former presidential candidate of the National Action Council (NAC), Dr. Olapade Agoro, and a legal practitioner, Mr. Musibau Ajetunbi, at a public forum in Ibadan, yesterday. They argued that Faleke could lay claim to the 240,867 votes garnered by Audu, before the election was declared inconclusive because he holds a joint ticket with Audu, while Wada, who also polled 199,514 votes prior to the supplementary election, could also claim that APC did not have valid candidate for the supplementary election held on December 5 and the fact that he came second at the end of the exercise as a valid candidate. www.sunnewsonline.com/new/kogi-ill-not-attend-swearing-in-ceremony-with-bello-faleke/

It's part of change people probably voted for |
Hi dearies do you want to know men’s deepest need in love and dating? Just take a wild guess! The answer is as simple as ABC. It’s Sex. I bet you are surprised right? But before you jump to any conclusions, let me say that just because sex happens to be a man’s deepest need, that doesn’t make them perverts. Far from it! After all, it wasn’t their idea. It was how they were created. After all, the human race wouldn’t be here if they didn’t have that deep-seated need to “perpetuate the species,” to “go forth and multiply,” to “subjugate the earth,” and so on. You get the idea! That’s why it’s wrong to think of a guy’s need for sex as dirty, or sick, or evil, etc. If you think that way, then you also think Mother Nature is dirty, or sick, or evil. (And that’s a crazy idea.) So to love a man, you need to respect him first. Right? And to respect a man, you have to understand him first. Right? (Right!) So today, let me share with you a man’s deepest secrets about his deepest need. Actually, to be more specific, they don’t have just one deepest need. They have three: 1. A man’s first deepest need is to feel Sexually Desirable. To be more specific, men need to feel the most sexually desirable person in our world. And this is one of the main challenges of a long-term relationship. Especially when your sex life becomes too routine like, and then the woman loses interest in making love and then the guy starts thinking that he no longer think he’s sexually desirable. Now meeting this need isn’t just child’s play. Don’t just tell your man you want to meet his need, they need to feel it, they need to see it in the way we look at them, the way we talk to them, and the way we respond to them when they are making love to us. 2. A man’s second deepest need is to do Something Forbidden. I don’t mean doing anything against the law. (And if you’re dating a man who’s doing anything criminal, leave him as soon as you can please!) What I mean is doing something outside the norm, swimming against the current, and doing our own thing. Every guy has a “wild side,” and not every woman can like (or even accept) it. But if you truly love him, and as long as his “wild side” doesn’t break the law or step on anyone’s toes, then be prepared to accept it, share it with him, and satisfy it. It’s that simple. 3. A mans third deepest need is Sexual Variety. One of Mother Nature’s “foolproof” survival measures for the human race was to make guys want to have sex with as many women as possible and since men are still in this world after hundreds of thousands of years, I’d say it worked! Of course, Mother Nature is all about balance so she also instilled in men the ability to control these primitive urges. Now this wonderful ability has manifested in society in the form of wearing clothes, living in homes, separate bathrooms, the institution of marriage, and so on. But even in a monogamous, married relationship, men’s need for sexual variety is pretty much alive and they need our help, pretty much to satisfy it. With this need, you should introduce variety in the bedroom. Try new things, get into role-playing, pretend to be strangers, etc. whatever fits your fancy! That way, he’ll feel as though he’s having sex with many different women but you still belong to each other. Either way it’s a Win-win situation. Do you get me? Now here’s the tough choice we need to make. It’s sad, but some of us ladies have issues with these three “deepest needs” of a man. When our boyfriend or husband try to look sexually desirable to us, we say: “Stop being crazy and dress normally. “When he wants to make love, we say “No.” When he wants to try something new in the bedroom, we say, “You’re sick.” So he starts looking for something (or someone) to satisfy his deepest needs and the relationship crumbles and fails. And these women blame him for it! I know some of us ladies have this “picture-perfect idea” of what your relationship and sex life “should be.” But remember, you might be going against what’s meant to be and when you go against what’s meant to be, someone’s got to give. (And it won’t be her.) But here’s the good news. It’s possible to meet a guy’s deepest needs and still achieve your “picture-perfect idea” for your relationship. In other words, it’s possible for you and your man to be totally, completely fulfilled by the relationship you share and you’ll never need to look elsewhere for the love and happiness you both need. Now picture this: He’ll be so sure of your love and desire that he’d be absolutely crazy to look for love elsewhere. What’s more is, your relationship will be the most exciting and enjoyable thing to ever happen to your life and he’ll feel the exact same way. And best of all, every romp you share in the bedroom will be better, more exciting, and more satisfying than the last one. Why? Because you know, understand, and respect every single one of his needs and as a result, he also meets every single one of your needs without fail! Voila! Before I go, I have just one more thing to say: Most guys already know that they have these three deepest needs – to feel sexually desirable, to break the norm, and to have sex with many different women. And, yes, most of them wish women already knew these three deepest needs of men because it would make handling relationships and marriages so much easier and more enjoyable. It would prevent painful breakups and messy divorces for millions of couples! Unfortunately, they don’t want to have to teach the women in their lives about these deepest needs because they are afraid they will be judged, or hated, or made fun of, and so on. But if you are a smart woman who wants a long lasting relationship with her man, you’ll learn these revelations I’ve given you, and use it for your own good. To our happiness. Cheers. |
