The point here was that Leicester and Atleti show that it CAN be done
Yes, it can be done, I won't dispute that. But keeping it going and achieving with it is the most important. Staying on top and not getting to the top is the hardest. Let's watch what next 4 years will bring for Leceister.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by sinizia: 9:50pm On May 05, 2016
Leceister's EPL triumph is basically down to 3 points.

1. The traditional superpowers being shitty this season.
2. Their determination and team spirit. I've got to give them kudos, they really tried.
3. A huge slice of luck too.

I'll only believe no. 3 is not among if they are able to contest for EPL title for 4 consecutive seasons using this formation and playing style like Atleti is doing. Atleti has created, espoused and perfected this defensive style for years and it's now working for them. Let's watch Leceister repeat this cycle for years to come and then I'll be a believer. For now, they are nothing but one season wonders.

Like most football fans, you have been conditioned to think that attacking football looks a certain type of way.

Leicester and Atletico have both averaged less than 50% possesion this season - Yet both have scored the 3rd highest number of goals in their respective leagues.

Leicester are champions. Atleti are level on points with Barca and are in the UCL final.

My dear sinizia, that is not 'luck'. That is controlled and precise attacking. If City, Spurs, Madrid and Barca are infantry men with rapid fire machine guns, Leicester and Atleti are sharp shooting snipers.

The difference between Atleti/Leicester and Bayern/Barca/City is the emphasis on the collective team effort with the former and reliance on briliant individuals in the latter.

Eruditor also alluded to this in the second half of his post.

Leicester lost Vardy to suspension and won their next match 4-0. Kante was injured and Leicester still won their match. Only Mahrez has stayed available of their 3 main men for the majority of the season but it hasnt really stopped them. Atleti have been bleeding big players during simeone's reign but it hasn't stopped him - Costa gone, Courtois gone, Mandzucic gone, yet Atleti are in the final....with the much derided Flopando Torress up fron no less!

Building on Eruditor's post, I'm now wondring if managers of star studded teams like Barca, bayern, etc feel compelled to 'attack' in a certain kind of way, with a focus on their world class talents.

Simeone and Ranieri have shown us that this other way is viable and need not be sneered at. Jose is finally being vindicated.
You can't even compare Leceister and Atletico side by side. You are forgetting that Atletico have been punching above their weights the past 5 years and have been building different quality squads when compared to Leceister that are one season wonders. Are we talking of Atleti that paraded the likes of skilled sharp shooters like Torres, Forlan, Costa, Falcao and Aguero? Atleti is like the Arsenal of Spain or the Liverpool of Spainish league. This their ultra-defensive style wasn't achieved in one season like Leceister's compact football. They've been building this playing style for years and hence can work wonders with it when compared to Leceister that have just had ONE good season where the traditional top 5 teams were utterly irritating. I read a column on one football site where the editor said before this season, if any of the top coaches in EPL where presented with a list containing names like Vardy, none of the coaches would take them even for free. Is it the team you want to compare Atleti with?

Leceister triumphed in a time when the tops dogs were useless. You know what? I'll bookmark this page, so that I'll dig it up when Leceister meets the likes of Bayern and Barca in next season's UCL and defeats them like Atleti. Them no born them well. Barca and Bayern will destroy them and their style of conservative and compact footie. You'll see.

And about Mourinho being vindicated, only a clueless fool will say Mourinho doesn't play attacking footie. Forget that he parks the bus against tough sides, Mourinho teams are very good in attack. Mourinho will play attacking football depending on the players he has. I can bet my left balls that neither Simeone nor Ranieri would play defensive footie with Barca-esque kind of squad.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by sinizia: 8:21pm On May 05, 2016
Nihilist, I disagree with the author and agree with Raumdeuter and Ranieri. The answer is not even far-fetched. Since the inaugural EPL season, the likes of Blackburn, Man Utd, Assanal, Shekpe and Man City that have won it played mostly attacking football with huge amount of goals scored. Even Blackburn that won with 80-something points did it with a better goal difference and attacking than Leceister City. Leceister City's win is one of a kind, it doesn't happen all the time. It's like the history created by Clough with Nottingham Forest. When was the last you heard of such fairy tale?

Barca and Madrid have swept through the league titles in Spain and they did it with brilliant attacking sides while breaking different scoring records and points record. Same can be said of Bayern. Same can be said of Lyon of old and the present PSG. Take it anywhere, the best way to DEFEND is to ATTACK. Juve plays attacking football and that's why they are champions right now. Athletico Madrid even with their ultra-defensive style, are they more successful than Barca or Madrid in the last 4 years? NO.

So since attacking sides have proven to be more successful than defensive sides, I'd rather bank on my team attacking than defending. Defending is a risky job. Even though Atletico survived Bayern 2 days ago, will you tell you me that you weren't on your toes while praying Bayern doesn't score? Atletico were EXTREMELY lucky to have escaped. The best side lost. Shìt happens. We don't use coz of one occurrence to judge 1 thousand happenings. When we had the likes of CR7, in-form Torres, Henry Theirry, Drogba, Nistelrooy and co plying their trade in EPL, Leceister compact football wouldn't have earned them the league

But I agree with you that possession footie doesn't necessarily mean attacking football. Man Utd this season are a prime example of club that holds onto the ball more than any other EPL but with meagre attacking prowess to compliment it. We just keep passing the ball around like headless chickens and end up with 1 or no shot on target at the end of the day. Of what use is the possession football then? But clubs like Bayern and Barca play possession football and still have the best attacks alongside it not forgeting winning multiple league titles with it.

Maybe you all deliberately cheered Lanicky on in the hopes that no-one would notice her answer was wrong. We all should feel insulted that Fynestboi played on our intelligence...if we aren't biased.

Noticed how my vitriols have been directed at Fynestboi and not Lanicky? It's because it's Fynestboi's fault that he made everyone think Lanicky was right. Even Lanicky herself believed she was right 'cause, in theory, Fynestboi insisted she was.

He even hid my first comment on that thread which highlighted this flaw even though I didn't break any rule . BY SELECTIVELY HIDING COMMENTS WHICH EXPOSED HIS FLAW(S), FYNESTBOI PROVED HE'S BIASED AND HE HAD A BIASED AGENDA.

Now the public would be at alert. We'd take notice of the obvious and not-so-obvious. That'd go a long way in ensuring the envisaged competition is free and fair.

No cheating under my watch. That I'd assure him and them.

TheSonOfMark, the thread is locked so let me reply you here.

It's an honest mistake. Fynest made an honest mistake. Same way I pointed out that he made a mistake saying Nicky was not fully right even when he asked her only the year and no month included. I was among the "most people" you alluded cheered Nicky on seeing her answer. I cheered her coz she nailed it though it wasn't in a cover letter format. The truth is I wouldn't be writing no cover letter if I was her, I'd have typed the reasons I feel makes me deserve to win the contest same way she typed and that's on that thread. No-one, Fynest included, would expect a cover letter in an interview. This is not a job application. How would she insert her signature? For the singular fact she would attach a signature means it's hand to be typed and sent to Fynest house. Can you tell me Fynest address? Like you pointed out before, it's an oversight on the part of Fynest and it isn't that serious coz it's not graded or part of the competition.

And I want to correct a notion of yours, the ORGANIZERS or ANYBODY for that matter don't grade Q&A segment that I've witnessed. They don't JUDGE, RATE or SCORE the Q&A segment (I haven't seen that method yet). They simply send the questions to the finalists, get their replies and post it as it on the final day and then ALLOW THE PUBLIC TO BE THE JUDGE. It's now left for you and I to vote according to the questions answered or not according to it. So Fynest is right in saying he doesn't rate the interview. It's left for us to read and judge inwards. Even Séxkillz bans anyone that criticises hardly or insults contestant based on their answers or pics. You only read and judge inwardly.

Let's move on from this misunderstanding. Apologies to you and anyone that felt insulted by that oversight.
CelebritiesRe: An Interview With Refiner,Optional1, Lanicky and Demiladegold by sinizia: 10:48am On May 05, 2016
TheSonOfMark, I really shouldn't delve into the "cover letter" issue by you or the accusation by TreàsurePhoenix against Fynestboi already sending the questions to Lanicky beforehand which was very pathetic thing to say, but I have to before some misinformed folks take it as the gospel or the norm.

First off, you and I both know I'm no group whatsoever; be it Lànicky's WhatsApp group, the Awón Wereys or the Knìghts' group. So no-one coerced or sent me, I work alone and I typed this rebuttal of my volition. I'd do it for any of the contestant I feel is being judged wrongly irrespective of where my loyalty lies. I stood up for Mimzy (even though I'm supporting Lanicky) when some nuisance were innundating her with unnecessary questions about her marital/relationship status and bringing her child into an ordinary E-contest. I did it for justice and to give her a breathing space and confidence to handle these bullies. I did it coz it's the right thing to do no matter the sides we are pitched on. Bro, I'm really disappointed in you with what I think is you being too hard on Fynestboi and Lanicky on an optional interview which is not included in the main contest. I make bold to say that if Lanicky wasn't the one to be affected in the ensued melee, you wouldn't have pointed out that mistake by Fynestboi (it's a mistake and I'll try to prove it further down). No matter the rivalry between the 2 groups, we shouldn't let sentiments erode whatever is left of our human empathy and pity. Nobody is perfect.

Lemme start with the accusation by TreasuréPhoenix. He accused Fynest of sending the questions beforehand to Lanicky WITHOUT any CONCRETE proof, his pitiable evidence was that the question asked and Lanicky's reply. . .
TreasurePhoenix:
To my surprise.. Refiner was asked to state three past winners of Mr Nairaland while lanicky was asked to state the year the organizer of this year's miss nl competition won Mr Nairaland.. This looks biased and already prepared to me..

Sorry fynestboi and friends .but to me, it seems you already prepared lanickys questions and sent it to her and she got ready made answers for them because she was able to articulately respond to your questions within a very short time frame while she struggled to even compose a line in response to questions thrown at her by one of the audience.
Out of bias, Treasure failed to see that Lanicky didn't get the question COMPLETELY correct and that Fynestboi immediately told her that the answer is not complete (though it was another mistake by Fynest coz he asked ONLY the year and not month). How can Lanicky partially fail a simple question (according to Treasure) sent to her hours before the interview? Why would Fynest even provide a link to help Lanicky know the month if this wasn't a CASUAL interview just just to have fun? Why the seriousness over a casual and optional interview where marks are not graded? Let me not even bother with rest of that guy's accusations, it's nauseating to say the least. Moving on. . .

Now to your part, Tsom, my question to you is, what is a cover letter? Since I'm dead sure you know, how do you expect anybody much less a Year 1 undergraduate to come up with that in THREE MINUTES. 3 fùcking minutes!! For fùck's sake, we aint talking about 3 hours. Fynest made a mistake using COVER LETTER as a platform for Nicky to answer. Why? Coz COVER LETTERS are meant for APPLICATION OF JOBS or to INQUIRE about JOBS mostly. And it usually COMES WITH AN ATTACHED CV. 2 ADDRESSES. SIGNATURE. USUALLY 3 PARAGRAPHS (the first paragraph stating the reason for APPLYING for the job, the second; stating why you are interested in the employer or the type of work the employer, and the 3rd; stating you would like to INTERVIEW for a position). So tell me how the word "Cover Letter" fits the profile of question or the answer from Fynest and Lanicky respectively? C'mon, someone writing a CL is NOT EVEN LIABLE TO BE INTERVIEWED YET, so why would an interviewee write one in the first place? Fynest made a mistake using it for an interview, but it can be forgiven. He's not perfect, the interview is not marked, and not part of the contest. Even during the contest the contestants are NOT ASKED TO DROP ANSWERS IN 3 MINUTES. They are given 2, 3 or 4 DAYS span to answer the questions. Some can even give it a professor if he or she deems it fit to do so and nobody would accuse him or her. So what's with the bile over a non-contest related interview?

C'mon, bro, you are more mature than this. Don't let your bias or anger take you down this path. Have some pity, show your human side. If Fynest accepted he's wrong to use CL as a format for Lanicky to reply, you'd have still nailed him on the alter of being biased. No matter what he says, he's doomed coz you'd find a way to blame him or Lanicky. It shouldn't be this way. Rise above this sentiments, be a man that you'd be and don't get caught up in a web of bias. Cheers

Well, to be crowned MISS NAIRALAND beauty and intelligence are of utmost importance and I believe I was marvellously made by God and I am beautiful in every sense. I know this because I feel confident in myself and those around me do not fail to mention it.

Aside from that I believe myself to be intelligent, self-conscious and friendly. All of which are characteristics a Miss Nairaland should have. She must be able to reply comments wittily, act properly, postively and in accordance with Nairaland rules and so be able to relate with every person she comes in contact with on Nairaland as amicably and as diplomatic as possible. I have all these attributes and so I think that is why I deserve to be crowned Miss Nairaland.

I also participated in the 2014 edition but couldn't make it to the finals. I have learned from my mistakes, I do not give up in my quest and for these reasons, I believe this is why I deserve to be Miss Nairaland 2016. Thanks smiley
lanicky:
I do not think I am better than my fellow contestants neither do I think I am more beautiful than them. As a matter of fact we are all equal in the presence of God so who am I to declare myself superior.

It is a contest and what's required of us(the contestants) is working hard in the aspect of the photo-shooting, mental aspect, Q & A etc in outsmarting ourselves. The beautiful people of Nairaland would be the judges in determining not who is more beautiful or who is more intelligent but who has succeeded in creating an ever-lasting impression. I believe we are all beautiful and intelligent and we have different strengths and weaknesses. However I strongly believe that I have what it takes to create an impression that shows who I really am and why I deserve to be Miss Nairaland. Thanks smiley
lanicky:
Feminism is about women. I am a humanist. I believe in the ideology that all humans are created equally and hence should be given equal opportunities to reach greater heights. In my society, women already have the rights and opportunities to follow their dreams and spread their wings. Although, the same cannot be said of some societies in Nigeria and other developing countries. Like in Iraq where women are not totally free to express their feelings or go to school.
I believe those societies need to be educated on the importance of humanism instead of feminism. A focused approach to gender issues such as the feminist movement can do more harm than good. Already, we are seeing the endless bitter arguments in Nairaland and other forums. Furthermore, there are laws in developed countries like the US, that greatly discriminate against men although they appear and are in fact gender neutral in theory.

Question 2)

Brilliance and intelligence are not the same.Intelligence is a general ability that shows knowledge and understanding while brilliance is excellence. You can be intelligent but not brilliant If you cannot apply your knowledge and understanding to create an excellent impression or result. You need intelligence to be brilliant, But you do not need brilliance to be intelligent. smiley

So, Giyazz, I downloaded your track and to say I was blown away is really an understatement. I was wowed!! This is not the Giyazz that gave us Hustle. This time around, you've really come of age and smoothened all the rough edges. Everything was on point, from the mixing, beating, the lady that did the chorus, and flows. It's all natural, you didn't force it and your voice was clear and slicker than when I heard Hustle last year. You're definitely gonna go places if you've got determination, good management, luck and God on your side. This is a dòpe song and if you were financially buoyant, a tight well-funded video would have placed you on a map and make the world really stand up and listen to what you've got to offer.

Don't give up, you are gonna blow one day if you keep this up. I remember Xbusta (the new 5 Star Music signing) starting like you, forcing his single to air on local radio stations and reaching out to underground fans that cherished him. The day I heard his song on Rhythm 93.7, I knew that nigga would one day make it. He was able to combine his music and studies together and today he's finally about to hit it big. So let not your studies stop your dreams, try and make your management push your music to as many radio stations as possible and hopefully a huge record label will get to you soon. Don't stop making good music, and your star will shine. I've been bumping this track for the past one hour and I must admit I'm a huge fan already. One day, I know God go do am for you and your videos will be airing on every telly across naija and the world.

I know exactly what i'm saying regards Rooney and it's not about having an agenda against him or something. Rooney performance levels has been so abysmal in recent years such average performances are labelled good and extremely frustrating are called average. The English press would only tell lies about how well he played in the midfield because Rooney has to go the Euros and there's no way they want him starting as CF over Kane, Vardy or Sturridge. That should be England's problem not United's.

Was it his duty to unlock the defence? Fellaini played ahead of him behind the striker. Rooney sat deep with Carrick as the box to box midfield. Sometimes Carrick played ahead of Rooney.
The times he pushed forward, what did he do with the chances he'd have created? And this is the testament to the fact that LvG is uber dumb for playing Rooney in a deep box-to-box MF with Carrick, and an indictment on Rooney that he's jack of all trades and master of none. He wasn't that bad. LvG needs the pace to counter Leicester breakout but what he didn't know is that we also needed smart passing to get beyond their deep line of defence. Mostly what we did was lay our eggs on wing play which yielded very little.

Carrick-Rooney-Herrera or Schneiderlin-Fellaini-Herrera would have been a more robust combo.
God bless you for this. It's the embolden that would have unlocked Leceister's defense. Since our MFers lacked it, they resulted in feeding Rojo with passes only for the fool to send parabolic-esque crosses with zero velocity into Leceister's 18-yard and as always, Huth and Morgan were waiting to head out the timid crosses. It's very frustrating to watch.

That one shooting decision couldn't make one have a bad game. He did things right 95%.
What he did would never have unlocked Leceister's defense.

Fellani was far more useful than Rooney today and i don't know how you always manage to praise this guy who shouldn't even be in United currently. Rooney is the highest paid player in the PL FFS. Players who get paid that much should have performances that correlate with the figure. Look at what Ronaldo, Aguero, Messi who bring to the table and that's why they are paid so much.

Rooney that can't even displace a rookie in Rashford for the CF position and whose uselessness is now being accommodated in midfield and you're defending him? Do we pay him 300k every week to spray diagonal passes down the wing to Valencia?
LMAO!! Elampiro na Rooney's number one fan so I expected his Rooney's defense. grin grin

Rooney useless today? I am not sure. I though he did very well, particularly in positioning to prevent a break out of counter attacks which Leicester are known for.
Did you see him waste shooting chances with timid shots? He can't even shoot to save his life The only thing Rooney did good today was spreading passes from wing to wing, and it's not enough. Watch what Silva does and compare it with what Rooney did today. Even Kante was pushing attack more than Rooney from a DM position.

Rojo was the poorest player on the pitch today but it's not enough reason for our failure to win the match.

Exactly, we are never even gonna challenge for the league next season under LVG if he stays and he's leaving after that. LVG claimed it's a 3 year process. 1st year, make top 4; 2nd year, win the league; 3rd year, CL and while the objective in the 1st year was barely achieved, we have regressed in the 2nd year and can't even reach the heights we reached in the 1st. so why should he get a 3rd year?

No be his fault sha, na Moyes wey hin replace cause am. If he had replaced SAF, his failure would have been more obvious than it is currently.
With LvG as our gaffer, we won't even be competing for any cup next season. Forget the FA cup we managed to get into its finals. LvG will give us either last or this season's performance for next season. He has no other ace up his sleeves. He has utilised all his game-changing methods and nothing is working for him. Stupidity is repeating the same method all the time and expecting a different result.

Look here, I don't even know whether LVg would stay or not and I don't really care but what I would never do is to want my team to fail no matter who the coach is!
I don't like Mourinho for example but would support the team under him and would wish the team well.
If my team FAILING this season can guarantee me the sacking of a rank idìot that would lead to monumental success afterwards, then hell yeah, I pray they fail!! It's only for the night, coz after van Goat is sacked, joy will come in the morning.
