Wow. That's a surprise. I knew we had many Nigerian French speakers and francophones but never knew it's almost same for Some other other languages.

But CAN and other aggrieved parties are just not okay with Arabic as part of the languages. They feel Arabic is Islamic language. Shouldn't the right thing to do is for them to advocate for a language that they feel is better for the christian kids to be included? So that we will now have three options ( Arabic(islam)/French/Christian language).

It is true most Muslims speak Arabic, myself included. We are taught from when we are kids(though basically reading and in some cases understanding) . Do we even have a Christian language ? Is it Hebrew? How many Christan families speak, understand and teach their kids Hebrew? How many famous pastors in Nigeria can speak Hebrew?
I think this idea of CAN always antagonising anything perceived to favour Muslims is becoming very childish. Instead they should table a parallel view that favours them too to the fg too.

I really respect and appreciate your way of critically analysing things as they should be without veil of sentimental attachment. This is one of those times I enjoy been here.

Thanks sir. You see at the end of the day, it boils down to how unserious our government is. Many things the government should do but isn't.

So they would always take the easy way out that wouldn't lead them spending more money as long as it doesn't profit them.

With all due respect to these schools, do you honestly think these whites would want to send their white folks to government schools to teach? How much will they be paid? How much can fg pay them especially in this economic mess we find ourselves in? Even if they are ready to spend alot in that, what will be the situation of other teachers? Wouldn't they advocate for salary increase?

Let's assume they will use graduates of their schools to teach these languages. Who would spend hundreds of thousands or millions of naira (might be wrong though) to study a particular language only to be A teacher in a public school paid 30k monthly( a very Highly unrealistic salary tag) ?


We are talking about supplying teachers to Primary and secondary schools in the whole Of Nigeria. Remind me again how many of these language schools have we.


Arabic and French on the other hand have always been in our system for a very long time. I took Arabic in my WAEC AND NECO and when I wrote GCE, I met some friends who were writing French and they weren't from dedicated language schools but government schools. One of them was from a private school and the other two government schools.


The point and the ultimate reality is that sourcing for teachers for these languages that arent too common is a herculean task for the fg. And it's understandable why they would pick French and Arabic.

Do you know that some of the jobless graduates out there are familiar with these languages,I'm speaking from experience.I have friends who schooled in Benin republic,some of them studied languages like Spanish,French etc.Go to University of Calavi(Abomey)in Benin republic if you are still doubting.



I have been to Italian school in Lekki and to my surprise,there are black teaching and non teaching staff in this school.We can achieve it if we are determined and sincere with ourselves. God bless Nigeria and Africa.

People who need the Arabic language are Muslims normally and the good thing is that they know where to learn it. They have so many Islamic schools where Muslims are taught Arabic so why bring it into the school curriculum?

what will happen is the Christians particularly in the north will have no option than to go for Arabic since there may not be French teachers and this is the aim. Trust Nigerians to indirectly impose it on students.
The best thing they should have done if they desperately need to add Arabic is to leave it as an elective stand alone subject do that people can freely choose Arabic if they desire and not because they don't have access to French. What if I don't like both French and Arabic?
This govt has been accused of an islamization agenda and the best thing they can do is to avoid bringing up things that look suspicious except they allegation is true. Arabic is taught in Islamic schools so why not leave it at that.
