President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick has revealed that he wants Victor Moses back to the Super Eagles.

Moses shockingly quit the Super Eagles after the 2018 FIFA World Cup to concentrate on his club football.

But Pinnick believes that the decision of the 28-year-old to quit the Super Eagles was ‘unexpected and sudden’.

The NFF boss has arranged a meeting with the Chelsea player and his agent in a bid to convince him to rescind his decision.

“I have arranged to meet him and his agent in England. I believe the way Moses left the national team was unexpected and sudden,” Pinnick told BBC Sport.

“I want to speak to him and make him understand how important it is to return.

“I’d love for us to get him back. We’ll see what will happen.”

Pinnick believes that Moses’ experience makes him a very important player to have in the national team.

“Moses comes with a lot of experience and has won the Nations Cup by playing an important role,” Pinnick also said.

“We have a talented young squad but he can make a significant contribution as an experienced player.

“It will be his decision at the end of the day, but even if he has to leave – then we have to honour him like England did with Wayne Rooney.

“I still believe he can change his mind and continue to wear the national colours with pride, that is what I will be hoping for when we meet.”

Moses played a made a total of 37 appearances for the Super Eagles and contributed 12 goals.

He started out his international career with the English youth setup at U-16, U-17, U-19 and U-21 levels.

He got his first call-up under coach the last Stephen Keshi in an international friendly game against Guatemala in 2011.

He was part of the Super Eagles squad under Keshi that won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2013.

He represented Nigeria in two FIFA World Cup tournaments-Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018.

If he returns to the Super Eagles, the forward is likely to be in the squad for the AFCON 2019.

A man has been trampled to death by an elephant after he tried to hypnotise it. Video footage shows the unnamed man walking up a wild male elephant grazing in a forest clearing.

He then gestures to get the huge animal’s attention, after which it begins charging at him.

In what is said to have been an attempt to ‘hypnotise’ the animal and stop it in its tracks, the man does not run away.

The elephant knocks the man to the ground and tramples him to death on the spot.

The incident took place in Kataragama near Yala National Park in southern Sri Lanka.

Human interaction with wild elephants is not uncommon in the area as expansion of infrastructure and homes has destroyed the animals natural habitat.

The local forestry department have been made aware of the incident and said they are supporting the family.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday evening, paid a visit to his 91-year-old former teacher and mentor, Mr James Popoola, who taught him English language.

A statement by Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, made available to journalists in Abeokuta on Wednesday, said the former President was accompanied on the visit by his classmate and close friend, who is the traditional ruler of Ibara, Oba Jacob Omolade.

It was gathered that Pa Popoola taught both Obasanjo and Oba Omolade at the Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, in the 1950s.

The statement said Obasanjo engaged the former tutor in banters while recalling some old memories.

The statement read in part

“The Trip, Which Was Led By One Of The Teacher’s Children, Akin, From His Abeokuta Residence, Saw Obasanjo Arriving Into The Waiting Arms Of Mr And Mrs Popoola At The Family House In Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area Of Ogun State, At Around 5pm.

A man who killed his girlfriend over infidelity, has been arrested 2 months later after he committed the said crime in Magwegwe suburb in Zimbabwe.

The suspect identified as Xolisani Sibindi, 30, allegedly stabbed Sehlulekile Mlalazi, 23, who died at the Hospital a day after the attack. Sibindi who was arrested at his hideout at Gweru’s Antelope Park in Zimbabwe, reportedly disappeared after committing the crime on October 3 and has been on the run for more than two months.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango who confirmed the arrest of the man who killed his girlfriend over infidelity, told The Chronicle;

“We’ve Arrested A 30-Year-Old Male Suspect In Connection With A Murder Case Which Occurred At A Sports Bar Near Renkini Bus Terminus. The Suspect Is Alleged To Have Stabbed His 23- Year- Old Girlfriend After He Accused Her Of Cheating On him".

A Chinese court ordered a ban in the country on iPhone sales in a patent dispute between US chipmaker Qualcomm and Apple, according to a Qualcomm statement Monday.

The statement said the Fuzhou Intermediate People’s Court had granted Qualcomm’s request for two preliminary injunctions against four subsidiaries of Apple, ordering them to immediately to stop selling the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone8 Plus and iPhone X.

The move marked the latest in a long-running dispute over patents and royalties between the two California tech giants playing out in courts and administrative bodies worldwide.

“Apple continues to benefit from our intellectual property while refusing to compensate us. These court orders are further confirmation of the strength of Qualcomm’s vast patent portfolio,” said Don Rosenberg, Qualcomm executive vice president and general counsel in Monday’s statement.

The China case is based on patents which enable consumers to adjust and reformat the size and appearance of photographs, and to manage applications using a touchscreen, Qualcomm said.

An Apple statement to AFP called Qualcomm’s effort a “desperate move by a company whose illegal practices are under investigation by regulators around the world.”

Apple added that Qualcomm “is asserting three patents they had never raised before, including one which has already been invalidated.”

Apple said that “all iPhone models remain available for our customers in China,” adding that “we will pursue all our legal options through the courts.”

The court action also comes amid a backdrop of increased trade tensions between Washington and Beijing and the arrest in Canada of a top executive of Chinese tech giant Huawei at the request of US authorities.

Beijing has reacted angrily to the arrest of Huawei chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou, the daughter of the company’s founder, who faces US fraud charges related to alleged sanctions-breaking dealings with Iran.

– Apple’s China strategy –
China has been an important market for Apple in recent years since China Mobile agreed to begin distributing the smartphones, and the company has opened up a number of Apple retail stores in the court.

Apple’s most recent quarterly report showed it brought in some $11 billion — around 18 per cent of its total revenues — from “Greater China,” a region which includes Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook has made regular visits to China, and has touted the company’s inroads in the Chinese market as well as its manufacturing there.

Qualcomm, the leading supplier of chips for mobile devices, has been in a prolonged legal battle with Apple in recent years.

Apple has claimed that Qualcomm is abusing its market power over certain mobile chipsets in order to demand unfair royalties, joining a string of antitrust actions against the chipmaker.

Qualcomm has countersued Apple and earlier this year escalated its legal fight, claiming the iPhone maker stole trade secrets and shared them with mobile chip rival Intel.

According to Qualcomm’s US lawsuit, Apple’s goal was to buy mobile chips from Intel instead of depending on Qualcomm.

Qualcomm is facing antitrust probes in South Korea, the European Union and the United States over its dominant position.

Juventus striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, has taken a swipe at his former club Real Madrid while praising his current club for having the best team spirit of any club he has played at.

The Portuguese striker who joined the Serie A champions in a shock £100million move last summer from Real Madrid made this known in a recent interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

Ronaldo said: ‘I’m very happy. The city is really nice, the fans are very kind and Juventus is a fantastic club, that is incredibly organised.

Students of Madonna University Okija have been asking the school management to help renovate some of their dilapitated hostels for a while now, but it seems nothing has been done about it.

Photos showing how bad and unhealthy the school hostels look have since gone viral on social media. A Facebook user identified as Nwankwo Ogbonna took to the platform to speak about the deplorable state of hostels in some Nigerian Universities and how it affects the students. Read below.

“This is why most Nigerian graduates are useless and unproductive because they are the products of their environments.
This is the deplorable state of the almighty Madonna university Okija hostels, a private university for that matter and one of the expensive Universities in Nigeria. Despite the huge fees collected by the school the management can not create a conducive learning environment for their students.
And these graduates and undergraduates of the school don’t see anything wrong in these things that’s why they can live here happily and suffering .

Kehinde Timilehin, a 17-year-old secondary pupil has killed a schoolmate, Favour Matthew, 16, after engaging in a contest to test the potency of their juju.

The two students of Ado Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti were said to have engaged each other in a juju contest after which Matthew, a Senior Secondary School 2 pupil, reportedly went home to bring an axe to attack Timilehin.

According to reports, Timilehin, who was in SSS 3, overpowered Matthew, collected the axe and struck him in the chest, leaving him in a pool of blood.

Matthew was rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, where he died. In the wake of Mathew’s death, the Ebira community along Ado-Federal Polytechnic Road reportedly threatened a reprisal against the Yoruba community in the area.

Policemen were deployed in the neighbourhood to prevent a breakdown of law and order while a police van was stationed at the school gate. The school principal, Ebenezer Falayi,and the vice principal, Olurotimi Olaoluwa, explained that the incident occurred around 2.15pm after closing hours.

Falayi said, “this incident really saddened us because it was avoidable. What I gathered from students who were at the spot was that the two were arguing over who had superior power and the deceased had earlier gone home to bring weapons, which did not have any effect on the suspect when used on him. I was told that the suspect later overpowered the victim and struck him in the chest with the weapon. Our teachers, including me, the vice principal and registrar who reside in the school rushed him to EKSUTH. We even took the suspect along.

The victim was put on life support, but that could not help the situation. He died in the hospital. I had to quickly call the Divisional Police Officer of the Odo-Ado Police Station who deployed his men in the area. We also contacted the police station at Oke Ila, Ado-Ekiti, to prevent the suspect from being killed by highly enraged family members of the deceased.

The hospital insisted on conducting an autopsy before releasing the corpse, but the family resisted it. The corpse was later released to the family when it nearly led a crisis in the hospital. The suspect is in police custody. I begged for more security operatives to be deployed in the school area when we heard that 30 students would be killed in a reprisal attacks.”

The suspect had been taken to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the state police command. The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Police Command, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect was in custody while investigation had begun.

Vanessa, a model and volunteer, took over from India’s Manushi Chhillar, who won the Miss World pageant last year

First runner up was Thailand’s Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan, a 20-year-old studying business administration. Miss Belarus Maria Vasilevich, Miss Jamaica Kadijah Robinson and Miss Uganda Quiin Abenakyo were also among the final five.

The presidency has ordered immediate arms procurement of critical equipment for the armed forces in line with the Federal Government policy of purchasing such items from the original manufacturers on government-to- government basis.

The president also directed the enhancement of the welfare of troops, particularly those serving in operational areas within the country, Guardian reports.

Minister of Defence, Mansur Muhammad Dan-Ali who disclosed this yesterday during a meeting with the service chiefs at the he Ship House, Headquarters of Ministry of Defence, ordered the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, to relocate to the North East pending when the security situation improves.

He also directed the General Officer Commanding the 8 Division, Nigerian Army to relocate his tactical headquarters from Sokoto to Gusau, Zamfara State to oversee the conduct of Operation Sharan Dahi.

The minister mandated the chief of defence staff and Buratai to effect changes in the operational commands of Operations Delta Safe in the Niger Delta, Lafiya Dole in the North East, Sharan Dahi in Zamfara and Katsina states and Awatse in the South West. Dan-Ali said the changes were to enable them meet up with the current threats and security challenges in their areas of responsibility.

The directives came as a pro-democracy organisation, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) said the special forces of the army fighting in the ongoing counter insurgency in the northeast needed special weapons to fight the Boko Haram terrorists.To this end, the group urged the National Assembly to pass a legislative framework which will make funding of the defence sector as a first line charge to ensure efficient and effective roles by the military to stabilize national security.

HURIWA lamented that the $1billion said to have been taken from the escrow account was yet to drop at the Defence Ministry, wondering why the government could allow bureaucratic bottlenecks to slow down the process of releases and utilization of fund for the prosecution of the ongoing war against terrorists.

The group also canvassed the creation of what it calls ‘War budgets’ and the time line for national security objectives that must be achieved by a particular set of service chiefs, and a specified tenure so that other competent professional and combat-tested and trusted military generals are appointed to replace the serving military chiefs so the counter terror war does not become a commercially viable sector to be used by them for personal aggrandizement.

These were contained in a statement signed by the National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and National Media Director Miss Zainab Yusuf.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, says Nigerian workers should be clapping for the Buhari administration because it has done well for them.

Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Ngige said the Buhari administration has been able to manage the welfare of workers in the country better than other administrations.

“Many people will not remember very quickly. In the military government, at a time, there was an embargo on employment; even embargo on promotions. When people go, the vacancies are there and the monies are returned to the coffers of the government. We are not doing so and I thought Nigerian workers should be clapping for us for that. We are promoting them (workers) as we speak; we are replacing those who have left. In fact, when people leave on high grades, we do what is called suppression and get more (people) on the lower grades. The Presidency doesn’t want anybody to be laid off; this President.” he said

The Minister went on to say President Buhari is very concerned about the welfare of workers because he was part of them, as a soldier. He said the Buhari administration has recruited 30,000 policemen and thousands of workers into various parastatals of the government.

Former Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Chief Onyemauche Nnamani has been expelled by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), over alleged misconduct.

Nnamani’s expulsion was announced by the Chairman of the APC in Enugu, Ben Nwoye, on Sunday. According to Nwoye, Nnamani, who served as SSG during the reign of former governor Chimaraoke Nnamani, was expelled for dragging the party to court.

Nwoye noted that Nnamani went to court ‘without first ventilating his grievances through internal mechanisms provided in the party’s constitution. The development contravened provisions of Article 21 of the APC constitution, which deals with ‘discipline of members,” Nwoye said.

Nnamani contested the position of APC national vice chairman, South-East, during the party’s national convention. The election was eventually won by the incumbent, Chief Emma Eneukwu.

He disclosed that a petition filed by Nnamani against the outcome of the election was dismissed by the national convention appeal committee. The Enugu APC chairman added that Nnamani went ahead to drag the party and Eneukwu to court over the same matter.

Nnamani had in the suit claimed that Eneukwu did not obtain any waiver that would allow him to contest the position during the convention.
