Politics / Buhari Will Be In Power Till 2023 – Senate Leader, Lawal [video] by sirlekzy: 10:50am On Oct 28, 2017

Senate Leader Ahmed Lawal says President Muhammadu Buhari will remain in office till 2023 “by the grace of God”.

Lawal said this in a chat with State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with Buhari in Abuja, on Friday.

His words: “It important that we continue to support the President and his administration and as a group, across the nation, this is what we will continue to do.

“We will continue to identify with and support all the programmes that this administration has set forward.

“And l believe that we have every justification to be happy because, the President campaigned on three major pillars of anti-corruption, fighting the insecurity across the country and revitalizing the economy of Nigeria.

“It has been a very, very good journey so far and also believes that Mr. President and Nigerians have a future beyond 2019. What he has started, by the grace of God, he should be able to complete, up to 2023.

“I also believe that the future is bright and by the grace of God, by 2019, we would have achieved so much in this administration and Mr President will have no option but continue the good work he has started”, he said.

Also speaking, Sen. Abu Ibrahim, assured that the same groups that worked Buhari and the APC to win the 2015 general election were still solidly on ground.

“We have been holding meetings, discussing the problems of this country. So, we thought it was high time we meet with the President to intimate him about the activities of the group.

“We discussed with him about the plans to improve the situation in Nigeria. Mr President was very pleased with our programmes.’”

Politics / What Buhari Must Do To Be Voted In 2019 – Arewa Youth Forum by sirlekzy: 11:40am On Oct 21, 2017

Arewa Youth Forum has predicted what President Muhammadu Buhari must do to enjoy massive vote from Nigerians in 2019.

President of the Forum, Gambo Gujungu said Buhari/s ability to tackle hunger in the land” will determine his victory at the next poll.

Speaking with Vanguard, Gujungu said Buhari will be judged based on performance.

Gujungu said Buhari was voted into power based on his promises, and his ability to deliver them will decide in 2019.

According to Gujungu, “You know he came in based on certain promises which he must fulfil in order to convince the electorate to go for him or not.

“I suspect strongly that the 2019 presidential election would be based on performance and not on promises because Nigerians are very enlightened and expectant.

“How far the President and his party are able to fulfil their manifesto to the people and tackle hunger in the land will be a deciding factor in the next poll.

“Do not forget that government is supposed to add value to people’s lives and Buhari’s government would be judged along that line when the time comes.”

Education / WAEC Reveals How Candidates’ Cheat During Examination by sirlekzy: 9:56pm On Oct 20, 2017
The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has exposed ways candidates cheat.

Professor Jonas Redwood Sawyer, who spoke on technology and examination malpractice during WAEC summit in Lagos, noted that students globally have devised series of malpractice through the use of technology.

He said: “Smart watch, smart ring, spy earpiece bluetooth, scientific calculator live chat, spy glasses, invisible watch, spy camera and smart earpiece/microphone are now being used.

“Others, include Bluetooth communication link to handset, smart contact lens, smart lenses and smart calculator among others.”

To curb the challenge, the don said: “Combating exams malpractices should be a national and regional concern and treated as emergency, giving its wider international implications.

“Laws that provide for both stiff monetary and custodial sentences should be enacted urgently.

“Institutional structures should be established such as a special exams fraud unit in the police.

“WAEC as an international body should continue investing in Information Technology, staff training and further innovation ways of stemming this practice thereby setting the pace for other examination bodies.

“All educational institutions should review their current examination procedure and develop robust policies with a view to stemming this practice.”

Politics / Payment Of Biafra Policemen Will End Civil War Pains – Nigerian Government by sirlekzy: 9:43pm On Oct 20, 2017

The Federal Government of Nigeria has stated that the payment of pension benefits to retired Biafran police officers would end the painful legacies of the Nigerian Civil War.

DAILY POST reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the payment of pension to police personnel who served under the defunct Biafran police during the civil war.

The affected police officer were part of the Nigerian Police Force before the outbreak of the war but found themselves on the Biafran side when the war commenced between 1967 – 1970.

Executive Secretary, PTAD, Mrs Sharon Ikeazor, on Friday announced that 162 officers who have never been on the payroll, and 57 Next of Kin who have not been paid their death benefits, would be paid on Friday, in the first batch of the exercise.

Another set, comprising about 155 retired Biafran police officers, who are on the payroll but were being ‘short paid’, would be paid in the next batch as soon as their pension benefit computation is concluded, Ikeazor added.

The PTAD boss explained that the payment of the pension benefits was part of measures taken by the Federal Government to heal the wounds of the Civil War.

“This represents another decision by the current Federal Government to bring closure to the painful legacies of the Civil War, and indeed a clear demonstration that President Muhammadu Buhari is indeed a father to all Nigerians and that his administration’s reforms under PTAD will ensure that Nigerians who spent the productive years of their lives serving their nation will not experience difficulties in getting their pensions,” Ikeazor said.

Chairman of the Association of Retired War Affected Police Officers, the union of the retired Biafran police personnel, Mr. Matthew Udeh, explained that the payment of their pension benefits came after a long period of agitation.

Speaking to journalists, he said, “I was a police officer of the rank of ASP before the war ended. We happen to have served in Biafra during the war. After the war, some policemen and soldiers who served in Biafra during the war were dismissed. We felt that was unfair because other federal civil servants who served in Biafra during the war were reabsorbed. So, from 1970, we started agitating for justice.

“We agitated through all the heads of state that took over after the war, until the second coming of Olusegun Obasanjo as a civilian president. On May 29, 2000, he granted us amnesty by formally retiring us.”

Politics / Fayose Under Fire For Allegedly Diverting Pensioners’ Funds by sirlekzy: 8:51am On Oct 18, 2017

Ekiti State Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has slammed Governor Ayo Fayose of the state for allegedly diverting funds meant to pay pensioners and workers in the state.

Reacting to a report by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which indicted the Fayose government for allegedly diverting N680 million bailout fund, the CNPP described the alleged diversion as “callous and greedy”.

A statement yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, by CNPP’s Director of Publicity, Kunle Omotayo, said 16 political parties in the state met and regretted that pensioners and workers were owed several arrears after the state had received intervention funds from the Federal Government.

He said in a terse statement that “For the first time in the history of Ekiti State, workers have turned petty thieves, stealing pots of soup and some stealing farm produce to stay alive, while several others have become beggars before they can make ends meet…”

However, the Commissioner for Information Lanre Ogunsuyi dismissed the allegation, saying it was a "figment of imagination of those peddling it".

Ogunsuyi challenged any person or group with evidence of the alleged diversion to come out with same or forever keep silent.

He said: “I sympathise with those celebrating what the EFCC has done; it is quite unfortunate. Ekiti is in a difficult financial situation because of the repayment of loans obtained by Fayemi administration. We have repaid N40 billion in the last 36 months, deducted at N1.2 billion per month.

“The allegations of treasury looting and financial mismanagement being peddled by some mischievous individuals and groups only exist in their imagination. Let them bring concrete evidence or keep silent forever.”

Education / Osun State Govt Expresses Confidence In LAUTECH Council As Union Suspend Strike by sirlekzy: 7:33pm On Oct 17, 2017

Osun State government has expressed confidence in the governing council and workers of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, following the payment of three-month salaries and subsequent suspension of strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the institution.

According to Osun government, the payment of the three-month salaries was an indication that the council and the two owner state governments, Osun and Oyo are committed to the smooth running of all activities in the university.

The state government in a press release by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Adelani Baderinwa, on Tuesday said the resumption of the LAUTECH workers and academic normalcy is important to the owner governments, as they were concerned about the plight of the students.

Baderinwa maintained that the two owner state governments are so much concerned about the well being of the students as well as the progress and development of LAUTECH and the welfare of its workers with mutual understanding.

He said: “Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun and Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi were very sensitive about LAUTECH matter and they have exhibited reasonable and convincing commitment to the welfare of the workers of the institution and the plight of the students.

“It would be recalled that the Osun government recently released a sum of N1bn to the university.”

Not withstanding pressures from some quarters that Osun government should not commit the state resources to LAUTECH again due to obvious marginalization of the state in LAUTECH, Governor Aregbesola who is passionate about functional education, a team player and a goal getter will not cease in funding LAUTECH and will stop at nothing in ensuring that LAUTECH is back on its feet.

“The basis of agitation of Osun people is that Oyo indigenes in the employment of LAUTECH are about thrice that of Osun while only one faculty in the institution is located in Osun as against the seven faculties located in Oyo despite the equality in funding by the two states.

“All stakeholders are called upon to be sensitive to their responsibilities and join the two owner governments, and especially Governor Aregbesola who went out of his way to provide promptly, not minding the dearth of fund facing Osun and loud protestations of inequality in the partnership, what was agreed to in rebuilding the institution and ensuring the resumption of LAUTECH workers.

“There is no any other way to express sensitivity and commitment to the progress of the institution, the welfare of its workers and the plight of the students.”
Baderinwa urged LAUTECH labour unions to continue to cooperate with the council in ensuring that the institution is fully back on track.

Crime / NSCDC Arrests Tricyclist For Snatching 15 Cellphones From Maiduguri Housewives by sirlekzy: 2:42pm On Oct 17, 2017

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it had arrested a 24-year-old tricyclist, Isah Ma’azu, for allegedly snatching 15 cell phones from housewives in Maiduguri.

The Commandant of the Corps, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Maiduguri. Abdullahi said that the suspect was apprehended by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and handed him over to the Corps.

He said the suspect had swindled 15 cellphones and other valuable items from married women in the metropolis.
He explained that the suspect was disguising as an errand boy and going to the victims’ matrimonial homes under the pretext of delivering shopping or food items from their husbands.

“The suspect delivered exotic shopping menu like chicken, beef, fishery products, vegetables and other commodities to the victims, claiming that it was sent by their husbands.

“After delivering the items, the suspects would ask the woman to give him their phone so that he would call the husband.

“Eventually, the suspect would run away with the phone,” he said, adding that the suspect had applied the same tricks to defraud housewives of valuables items such as electronics and household appliances.

The commandant said luck ran out of the suspect when he went to a house while the head of the household was around, adding that the husband alerted vigilance group members in the area.

The Commandant disclosed that the command recovered cellphones, electric generator, a television set and a satellite receiver from the suspect.

Education / Top 7 Most Beautiful Campuses In Nigeria by sirlekzy: 11:59am On Sep 29, 2017
Today at 360ray NG, we decided to compile a list of top Seven most beautiful campuses in Nigeria. If your university is not in this list and you want it there, use the comment section below and tell us why you want it there. Also, don’t forget that we want convincing facts.

Therefore, below are Seven (7) most beautiful campuses in Nigeria in descending order.

7. UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN (UI)

U.I is Nigeria’s premier university and virtually the oldest University in Nigeria. It originated from Yaba College founded in 1932 in Yaba, Lagos as the first tertiary educational institute in Nigeria. Yaba College was transferred to Ibadan, becoming the University College of Ibadan, in 1948. The university was founded on its own site on 17 November 1948. Though characterized by obsolete structures, the University campus is still a site to behold and has never stopped being one of the most beautiful and breathtaking campuses in Nigeria.

In as much that U.I might not have deserved topmost position on our list, it would be a sin not to have it on our top 7 list of most beautiful campuses in Nigeria.

6. FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE, ABEOKUTA (FUNAAB)

FUNAAB is the pearl of Ogun state and gives that part of South-West region of Nigeria a bit of repute. Asides being number 6 on this list, FUNAAB is the most beautiful Federal University of Agriculture in the country.

The University was established on 1 January 1988 by the Federal Government when four universities of technology, earlier merged in 1984, were de-merged. This led to the creation of the first two universities of agriculture in Abeokuta and Makurdi.

5. UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT, CHAOBA

The University of Port Harcourt is a university in the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt in Rivers state. It is in fact the only South-south University on this list. University of Port Harcourt was established in 1975 as University College, Port Harcourt, and was given university status in 1977.

If you don’t want to leave the south-south region of the country and yet want to attend a reputable university, then UNIPORT should be your destination.

4. UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS

This university probably houses the most beautiful girls you can find in a Nigerian University. Some people call it ‘Federal University of swag’ others call it ‘University toh badt’, I call it the raw deal.

University of Lagos is the most sought after higher institution in Nigeria not because of the beauties inherent there or the somewhat breathtaking structures but because it is situated in the centre of excellence – LASGIDI–the city where dreams come true. Unilag has the best of everything you can imagine!

3. AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY, ZARIA. (ABU)

ABU, is the pearl of the north and the best university in that part of the country. ABU – the oldest University in Northern Nigeria is named after the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello, the first premier of Northern Nigeria who was killed in 1966 in an Igbo-led coup consequent of his slanderous actions and inactions against the Ibos.

The University has one of the finest collections of north’s bests. If you want to see pretty hijab wearing Hausa and Fulani ladies then ABU is your destination.

2. COVENANT UNIVERSITY, OTA

Covenant University is arguably the best private university with the most beautiful campus in Nigeria. This is the third privately owned university on our list and the second university owned Pastor David Oyedepo led Living Faith Church Worldwide to make this list. Located in Ota, Ogun state, the university beats FUNAAB hands down as the most beautiful higher institution in Ogun state.

1.OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY ILE-IFE

Formerly called University of Ife, OAU is the best Nigerian University in everything on the surface of this earth not just structure wise.

There are so many amazing structures in Ife that you would wonder if it is a University for just civil Engineers, Architects and Estate surveyors.

Culture / Ladoja Tackles Ajimobi Over N100m Olubadan Coronation Spending by sirlekzy: 11:35am On Sep 04, 2017

A former governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, has faulted the state Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, over his claim that the coronation of the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, cost the state N100m.

Ladoja was reacting to the statement the governor made on the state broadcasting outfit during an interview on Saturday.

In a statement signed on behalf of Ladoja by one of his media aides, Lanre Latinwo, the former governor stated that Ibadan people did not beg the governor for money for the coronation of the monarch a year ago.

The statement said, “Was the money he claimed to have spent budgeted for? Was it personal money? Did Ibadan people go to him cap in hand for him to foot the bill? Oyo State money should be spent judiciously for the use of all the people of the state and not a section of it. How much did the governor spend on the coronation ceremonies in other towns and cities?”

Ladoja also chided the state governor over the suggestion that tuition fee at the state-owned Ladoke Akintola University of Technology should be reviewed.

He also denied ever receiving a gift of a plot of land from the present government.

“To set the records straight, the land in question is a plot of land which shares a common fence with Ladoja’s house and he has been the one weeding the plot and keeping it clean.

“Last year, the state Housing Corporation put a notice on the land to the effect that the state government wanted to revoke the plot. At that point, Ladoja indicated interest and wrote a letter to the officials and copied the letter to the governor.

“The land had been fallow before Ladoja became governor and he never abused his office by appropriating the government land to himself. So, when the matter got to his office, he (Ajimobi) said it should be given to Ladoja free of charge.

“Ladoja queried whether the governor has power to waive a statutory payment and wrote to the Housing Corporation asking for the cost of the allocation and to which no response has been sent till date. The story that he gave Ladoja a parcel of land therefore does not add up,” said Ladoja aide.

Education / LAUTECH Has 99 Bank Accounts – Gov. Ajimobi Says by sirlekzy: 9:04am On Sep 03, 2017

Oyo State Governor,Abiola Ajimobi,on Saturday said Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, had 99 bank accounts.

He also added that the institution’s school fees might be reviewed to make it self sustaining.

The governor disclosed this on Saturday in Ibadan, while featuring on a programme, ‘Saturday Special,’ aired on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Ajimobi said since he assumed office in 2011, his administration had paid N22bn to the institution.

He described the amount being paid as school fees in LAUTECH as “abysmal.”

“The default in the payment of subvention and salaries was as a result of economic downturn. When we came on board, we reduced the school fee to N65,000.

“There are secondary schools that charge between N150,000 and N200,000, while some universities charge between N500,000 and N2m. To date, we have heavily subsidised LAUTECH.

Imagine, the institution has 99 accounts and some could not be traced,” he said.

The governor added that the government had taken steps to resolve the crisis in the university, among which was the auditing of its account to determine its viability to be Self-sustaining.

Ajimobi disclosed that the government had constituted the institution’s governing council which would submit its report after the holiday.

He promised that the crisis in the university would soon be over and the institution would be given a take-off grant for three months.

Commenting on Oyo State Technical University, Ajimobi said the institution, which would take off in October, was a specialised institution.

The 18-year-old striker was the subject of intense transfer speculation all summer but has finally joined his hometown club, initially on loan but with the club having a compulsory purchase clause in the deal that means he will arrive on a permanent basis next summer.

At that time, he is expected to become the world’s second most expensive player, with the deal reported to be as much as €180 million. His contract will run through June 30, 2022.

“It is with great joy and pride that I join Paris Saint-Germain,” Mbappe said in a press release. For any young person from the Paris region, it is often a dream to wear the red and blue jersey and experience the unique atmosphere of the Parc des Princes.

“I really wanted to be a part of the club’s project, which is one of the most ambitious in Europe. Alongside my new teammates, I intend to continue my progression while helping the team achieve the very big objectives it has set itself.”

PSG have already smashed the world transfer record this summer, having acquired Neymar from Barcelona for €222m.

As a result of that deal, they could not also afford to sign Mbappe and stay within UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, hence the move is simply a loan to begin with.
The teenager is regarded as one of the hottest properties in the game, having exploded into Monaco’s starting XI in the second half of last season by scoring 26 times in 44 matches.

He has earned widespread praise, with Juventus great Gianluigi Buffon dubbing him a “future Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo”.
“Among players of his age, he is without doubt the most promising in the world due to his immense technical, physical and mental qualities,” PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said.

“Since his emergence at the highest level, he has earned an excellent reputation as a young talent who is very respectful, open, ambitious and already very mature.

“Under our colors, in the midst of truly great players, Kylian will continue his progression in a way that will also benefit the French national team in the months and years to come.”

Mbappe has, though, been used sparingly at the start of the new season, given the speculation around his future, with a whole host of Europe’s top clubs having been linked with a move at one stage or another.

The forward started the French Super Cup defeat to PSG, and then Monaco’s first Ligue 1 game of the new campaign, but has since been an unused substitute or left out of the squad entirely.

Music/Radio / How To Shoot Your First Music Video Absolutely FREE Or With Low Budget by sirlekzy: 1:03pm On Aug 26, 2017
HOW DO YOU GET YOUR MUSIC VIDEO DONE FOR FREE OR WITH LOW BUDGET?

There are a lot of promising young talents out there wandering around with their impressive music audios, hoping they were financially capacitated to shoot their first music video. So many have given up on themselves already, owing this to their musical frustration, they have been reduced to producing only audios.

As talented as they seem, it has been a no man business to help these young talents.

Today, I’ll take it upon myself to teach you on how to move swiftly and smartly towards your video shooting platforms. Some awesome tricks that have been working for a lot of upcoming artistes for sometimes now.

I’ve received a lot of emails about this same trick working for other artistes that called for advice. The likes of Kelvin Rich had his first video shoot with this exposure. He equally drew his colleagues to lime light with the same idea. Today, they have about 5 videos each to their careers.

This is the era of high rated videos associated with the high profile music sounds produced. Take a chill on these ideas and act swiftly towards it.

GATHER AS MANY FRIENDS AS POSSIBLE AND GET THEM INVOLVED

This is the first super step to take. Make a lot of good friends that supports your vision and are willing to do little just to assist. You might want to ask, Why do I need too many friends? It’s easy! These people you’ve gathered will help you talk to a friend that has a friend that knows a friend. Almost everything you need is in gathering a lot of good friends to assist. If you need dancers, a friend that knows an affordable or in some cases, free dancers that can help. Also, for free massive turn up in cases of throwing parties in music shoots.

GET FREE COSTUMES

Getting free costumes is as easy as nothing and there are 2 ways you can get this done.

1. From the good friends you’ve gathered, they should be able to get you something from their wardrobe.

2. A business deal with a fashion house. Go to any boutique you can find, give them a business proposal of a conspicuous shoutout on your video and also a 30secs advertisement slot in exchange for costumes.

These steps have worked for many including our top musicians.

GET A NICE LOCATION AND A FREE OR LOW BUDGET SHOOT

This is the last step and its quite ideal you know and practice it perfectly. Hope you haven’t forgotten that you need to get a lot friends from all walks of life? Yes! Including visual production house friends.

Initiate initial talk on how you want to shoot your music video for free with them. That will stick a long time on their memory each time they see you. Always be around them, assist them on other people’s shoot. Keep saying you need a free video shoot one day from them for your songs but don’t make it too oppressive.

And always be ready every time. Tell your friends that they should be ready too, including your costumes manager.

When they fix a location for a music video shoot, tell him how prepared you and your team are to also shoot your own personal video. It’s better you make him know you’re not after too many locations shoot. In other words, one specific location is ideal.

Then calmly wait for your opportunity to come, because it will definitely come. I repeat, be prepared always for it.

Car Talk / 9 Reasons To Shop For Car Insurance Every 6 Months by sirlekzy: 11:01am On Aug 26, 2017

Car insurance rates change daily. How often should you compare quotes to be sure you have the cheapest premium rates?

Car insurance is meant to protect drivers from financial loss in the event of an at-fault accident. But it doesn’t always feel like insurance is out to save us money when the monthly premium rate is due.

While paying for car insurance is inevitable, you do have a choice in how much you pay for your coverage.

To ensure you’re getting the cheapest car insurance, you should shop around every six months.

While it isn’t fun, the internet and rise of mobile devices have made comparing auto insurance quotes faster and easier than ever. So why not set aside 10 minutes twice a year?

1. Car insurance companies change rates all the time
Car insurance providers change their rates many times throughout the year to account for different risk factors.

Premiums rates can fluctuate from month to month or even day to day.

For example, if you live in a state like Alabama your premium rates will most likely be higher if you’re shopping for car insurance between March and May because it’s peak tornado season.

Therefore most property is at risk for damage within this short period of time. An increase in claims means companies must increase rates to cover these payouts.

Changes in car insurance quotes from day to day won’t be significant enough to turn heads, but those fluctuations over a longer period of time, like 6 months, can save you hundreds a year.

Insurance companies use their claims payout data from the past to predict risks for the upcoming year. An increase or decrease in risk due to weather predictions or criminal activity may cause your provider to adjust their costs.

It’s important to know that companies’ rate hikes or reductions must be approved by your state’s insurance department.

2. States change insurance laws and requirements
Your state’s insurance department sets the legal requirements for liability, personal injury protection, and other coverage options.

For example, drivers in California are legally required to purchase a minimum of $15,000 for bodily injury/death to one person, $30,000 for bodily injury/death to more than one person, and $5,000 for damage to property.

Drivers in California can also opt out of insurance with a cash payment of financial responsibility OR they have the option to sign up for government subsidized auto insurance.

No matter which state you call home, insurance requirements can change with new legislation which means you may need more or less coverage in order to comply with the law.

3. Changes in your credit history
It is legal in most states for car insurance companies to use your credit score to determine your premium rates. The only states that do not take credit score into account are California, Hawaii, and Massachusetts.

In a study conducted by the Bureau of Business Research at UT’s McCombs School of Business, there is a correlation between your credit score and how likely you are to file a claim or be at fault in a car accident.

Insurance companies use this research to mark drivers with poor credit scores as financially irresponsible and thus raise their premium costs.

It’s estimated that drivers with poor credit scores pay an average of $214 more a year on their premium than drivers with good scores.

An insurance company’s ability to ask for credit scores, known as red-ling, is seen as discriminatory because it’s built upon the social, racial, and economical disadvantages deep-rooted in low income and minority groups.

The Consumer Reports union advocates the banning of red-lining in all 50 states.

4. Tickets, traffic violations, and accidents fall off your record
Blemishes on your driving record like traffic violations and at-fault accidents live on your driving record forever.

While that sounds threatening, it won’t affect your premium rates forever. Auto insurance companies cannot legally factor in violations or accidents after a certain number of years from the time of the mishap.

The average time a violation will affect your insurance rates is 3 to 5 years.

5. Changes in lifestyle
A lot can change in a week! So by the time 6 months have passed your lifestyle changes could save you money on your car insurance rates.

Birthdays: The older you get, the less you pay for car insurance (that is, until you hit your 60’s).

It’s important for younger drivers to shop around often because car insurance premiums drop once you reach age 20 and continue to drop every year after that until age 60.

New Driver: In the last 6 months maybe your teen got their license or your mother in law moved in with you or a child moved back home after college. Whatever the reason, adding a new driver to your policy is a good time to shop around for a new car insurance policy.

Because anyone living under your roof who may drive your car at any time (even just once) should be added to your policy to ensure your vehicle is covered. Whoever lives with you will still be considered in your rates as a licensed driver living in your household.

There’s a chance for your rates to increase or decrease depending on someone’s driving and financial record.

For example, adding a new driver to your policy can unlock a multi-driver discount. On the other hand, if your in-law with a terrible driving record just moved in you can expect to see a rise in your premium costs.

Get your coverages and discounts sorted so you’re not paying too much or too little for a coverage plan that could leave you vulnerable.

New House or Address: Your home or apartment address comes with a number of risk factors that affect the cost of your car insurance. So, if you’re a young adult who moves frequently after each leasing year you should always be shopping for new insurance quotes.

When setting your premiums, insurance providers consider the crime and traffic rates of where your car spends most of its time. High risk areas mean higher insurance premiums.

If your home is located in an area with high rates of both, you may want to add on comprehensive or collision coverages that will cover you in the event of theft or damages.

If you just bought your first home, car insurance companies give a generous discount to homeowners!

Marriage: The National Institute of Health found that drivers who had never been married were twice as likely to be in an accident than married individuals.

If you and your spouse or domestic partner have compatible auto insurance policies, you’ll be able to unlock some serious discounts if you merge them into one policy.

Compatibility of insurance policies depends on factors like your driving records, credit scores, vehicles, and mileage.

If your spouse drives a very expensive car, has a poor credit score or driving record it may be best to keep them off of your insurance policy.

Graduation: You educational background has an effect on your car insurance premiums. The more education you have, the less you pay for coverage.

Study show that drivers without a Bachelors or Masters degree pay an average of 20% more for their car insurance coverage than those with advanced degrees.

The thought process behind this is the same as why single people pay more for insurance. Insurance companies find correlations between drivers without degrees and a higher number of at-fault accidents and consider it a verifiable cause.

6. You’ve maintained coverage for the past 6 months (or year)
Car insurance is usually most expensive for first time buyers or for drivers who have had a lapse in coverage for a long period of time.

Insurance providers consider drivers without a history of previous coverage to be high risk. They have no data on the number of claims you make or how good you are at making timely payments; so they prepare for the worst.

Once you have car insurance for 6 months or longer you’re considered a safer risk and you can unlock continuous coverage and loyalty discounts.

7. Your vehicle loses value over time because of depreciation
You shouldn’t be paying the same insurance rate every year for a car that has less value than when you originally insured it.

Depreciation is the loss in value of a new vehicle the moment it’s driven off the dealership lot.

Depreciation continues for the entirety of a car’s life whether you purchased it new or used. However the value of brand new cars drop by 40% within the first year of ownership.

Reassessing your car insurance policy every 6 months to a year will refresh your discounts and coverage options, like collision and comprehensive, that will match the decreasing value of your vehicle.

Research shows that 5 year old car models spend 20% less on car insurance than new year models.

8. Your neighborhood’s weather, population density, and crime levels
External factors outside of your control unfortunately have control over the cost of your car insurance.

Even if you have a clean driving record and credit history, if you live in a highly populated area with severe weather or high levels of theft you will be paying more to protect your vehicle.

Your rates can be even more expensive if you buy insurance through a carrier that insures a large portion of the population you live in. The company is taking on more risk by serving that area and thus will need to charge more to cover claims payouts.

Researching and getting quotes from carriers that serve fewer people in your area may get you a lower rate than your neighbors.

9. “New” customers get better rates
Drivers looking for car insurance will get better rates if they wait 6 months or more to shop for quotes. Why?

According to insurance company insiders, new customers are given lower rates simply as a way to get them in the door.

“New” customer doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve never had insurance before. Simply requesting quotes from a different insurance company after 6 months with your current provider makes you new and appealing.

A little online research every 6 months can save you around $50 on a policy.

Remember to shop for car insurance quotes every 6 months
Shopping around for car insurance quotes every 6 months allows you to keep track of situational changes in relation to your coverage and it will keep your insurance provider on their toes when it comes to offering you discounts and coverage recommendations.

While your insurance agent should be helpful, they have dozens of clients. It’s your responsibility to alert them when you encounter a situation that might change your policy needs and premium rates.

Politics / Orphans Get N10.3m For Cows To Celebrate Sallah In Sokoto by sirlekzy: 9:26am On Aug 25, 2017

The Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission has distributed N10.3 million to 86 District Heads to buy cows for orphans during the Eid-el-kabir celebrations coming up next weekend.

Malam Lawal Maidoki, its Chairman, in a brief speech shortly before disbursing the money, stated that the gesture was part of government’s effort to ease the suffering of the orphans and the needy.

Maidoki said that the financial constrains facing the nation had not stopped government from executing its good intentions toward a better life for the poor and vulnerable in the society.

He said that the money was routed through the traditional rulers because they were the closest avenue through which government could reach targeted persons like orphans and the physically challenged.

Maidoki said that government would soon construct Zakkat offices across all districts in the 23 local government areas, and urged the District Heads to support the commission’s tree planting efforts to improve Sokoto’s environment.

A representative of Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, Alhaji Kabiru Usman, the Sarkin Yakin Binji, who flagged off the disbursement of the money, commended Gov Aminu Tambuwal for the efforts to ease the suffering of the people.

He called on the District Heads to ensure proper use of the money to improve the lot of the poor and particularly ease the hardship of orphans.

Crime / NAFDAC Destroys Fake Products Worth N3bn by sirlekzy: 9:08am On Aug 25, 2017
The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control has destroyed fake and expired drugs and other adulterated confectioneries worth N3bn.

The Acting Director-General of the agency, Mrs. Yetunde Oni, who spoke at the destruction site in Sagamu, Ogun State, said that NAFDAC had convictions for 64 cases of counterfeiting across the country.

Oni said the judgements ranged from one to seven years imprisonment without option of fine.

“We secured five years imprisonment for counterfeiters of Global Fund Artemether and another five years for those who fake cough and cold syrup. Importation of fake pharmaceutical ointments and condoms attracts 12 months imprisonment while those who fake antibiotics may face seven years jail term,” she stated.

Oni who was represented by the Director of Investigation & Enforcement Directorate, Mr.Kingsley Ejiofor, however, noted that the progress recorded came as a result of collaborations with sister agencies.

“The Nigeria Customs Service intercepted and handed over seven container-load of drugs worth about N35m to the agency. Other stakeholders such as the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria and the Lagos State Medicine Dealers Association are highly appreciated for voluntarily mopping up and handing over expired products for destruction,” Oni added.

Ejiofor in his address described faking of NAFDAC regulated products as an act of economic sabotage and ‘terrorism’ against the public.

He said, “We have increased surveillance and enforcement operations at our ports and borders and routes used by smugglers and this has led to increased seizures of fake products.”
