Falz has gotten support from an Islamic group in the public debate about the implication of his ‘This is Nigeria‘ video on the religion: Islam. An Islamic group called ‘Muslim Against Terror’ has come out to defend Falz in the controversial issue that has seen a group called, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) group threaten to sue him if he does not pull down the aforementioned video.

The MURIC group condemned Falz for using female dancers wearing Hijabs to dance ‘Shaku Shaku‘ in the ‘This Is Nigeria‘ video. In a public statement made by the director of the group, the video was described as “a hate video”. The director of the group said, “this video has the potential of causing religious crisis of unprecedented dimension. It is an assault on the self-dignity of every Muslim. It is freedom of expression gone haywire.” He gave Falz an ultimatum of 7 days to take down the video.

However, in defense of Falz and in opposition to MURIC group, the Muslim Against Terror group stated that MURIC does not have an understanding of veil usage.

“In clear contradiction to what MURIC’s Professor Ishaq Akintola claimed, Islam or Muslim was NEVER mentioned in the video and the veil is not owned by Islam but worn by anyone who so feels, hopefully to the pleasure of Muslims and worn by nuns and sometimes forcibly doused by terrorists on their captors as happened in the Chibok case. “Where did Ishaq see Islam or Muslim in this video?

“Was this subvert threat of a possible repeat of radical and meaningless, unjustified violence by misguided Islamists in the past, a means of merely defending the Buhari administration possibly negatively affected by the viral video and defending Fulani herder-related terrorism by attempting to present the video as religiously provocative? The video was not.

“If at all the video provoked any religion it was the Christian faith, by ridiculing pastors casting out demons via grabbing female breasts, and also laying direct attacks at pastors involved in the establishment of universities which their congregations cannot attend.”

The group urged MURIC to focus on the pressing societal issues raised in the video. In their words,

“As regards truths of value in the video, there were very many that seemed not to be digested by Professor Ishaq, including that the people are extremely poor, medical facilities are poor, that we operate a predatory neocolonial-capitalist system fueled on fraud and exploitation, bedeviled with institutionalized corruption, that criminal cases are settled in police stations and not courts, police station closing by six, no electricity, youth

Professor Awonusi Segun of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) who was recently accused of sexual assault has finally spoken on the incident.

Olusegun, who was a former vice-chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in an interview with New Telegraph, disclosed that he was blackmailed as he did not partake in any shameful act.

According to him, his mobile phone was stolen.

He said: “It is blackmail. The said pictures were taken about four years ago but sometimes ago, I received a message from a particular lady, saying she was in possession of my unclad photos and that I should pay her N400,000.

“The lady said if I did not pay the money, she would go public with the photos. I think this is what she had promised.”

However, the university in a statement issued by the communication unit of the corporate affairs directorate confirmed the incident but has promised to get to the roots of the matter.

The statement reads: “The management has a zero tolerance for allegations pertaining to sexual impropriety, and has a well-established policy against such practices.

“We wish to reassure all our stakeholders, students, parents, members of staff and the general public that management will not treat this matter with levity.

“Management will tackle the allegation with every sense of responsibility and seriousness that the matter deserves. The issue would be thoroughly investigated with transparency.”

The authorities in Ghana are angry with former President Goodluck Jonathan for linking President Nana Akuffo-Addo with an alleged mockery of Nigeria.

They have dismissed as untrue claims by Jonathan last weekend in Ado Ekiti that Akuffo-Addo recently mocked the poor state of security in Nigeria and the weak status of the naira.

The former president who spoke at the inauguration of the Ado Ekiti flyover said things have deteriorated so much in the country that it has lost its respect in Africa.

But responding to the statement on Friday, Ghana’s High Commissioner in Nigeria, Mr. Rashid Bawa said Jonathan “took the words of President Akufo-Addo completely out of context.”

He said:-

“Indeed , in the speech delivered by President Akufo-Addo at the Oxford African Conference, one of the instances used by former President Goodluck Jonathan, these are the exact words of President Akufo-Addo:

‘For most of you in the audience today, it is probably before your time, but in the late 1970s up to the mid- 1980s, as a result of the discovery of considerable petroleum deposits, Nigeria was booming. It was the place to be. We Ghanaians, who were going through very difficult times then, would arrive at Heathrow Airport, and be herded into a cage to be subjected to the full third degree by Immigration , and we would look on as our Nigerian cousins would be waved through, with a ‘welcome sir’ and a ‘welcome madam’ .

‘The newspaper headlines in this country were full of Nigerians leaving or forgetting bundles of money in taxis and telephone booths. Nigerians were the preferred tenants for those who had apartments to let. You could stop by any Thomas Cook shop on any High Street in this country and buy or sell Naira, the Nigerian currency, and you could do the same in New York, and I suspect in many other Western country cities.

‘I do not need to spell out today’s reality to anyone in this audience. I cite this just to make the point that the “the outside world” is well able to tell that there are separate sovereign nations on the African continent. But, when the news is not good, then Africa is treated as one entity.’

Bawa also took exception to Jonathan’s reference to Akufo-Addo’s purported disposition towards cattle-rearing.

His words:-

“The other alleged remark that ‘Ghana is not Nigeria where cattle can roam about anyhow’ has never been made by President Akufo-Addo; that is not his way of speaking.

“President Akufo-Addo , in many of the speeches he has made in Nigeria and elsewhere , since becoming President of Ghana , has described Nigeria as ‘a country I describe as my second home in the world’ , and will never use Nigeria to make negative examples, as the former President Goodluck Jonathan sought to portray.

“President Akufo-Addo enjoys a very good relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari , as he has with many other Nigerian leaders; Ghana and Nigeria are like siblings, and it would be most inappropriate, because of politics, for anyone, regardless of his or her status in society, to try to sow seeds of discord amongst the leadership and peoples of our two countries.”

A 35-year-old Nigerian man identified as Olukayode Ibrahim Lawal, was on Thursday indicted in Connecticut federal court, for reportedly tricking school districts across the country into sending him the personal information of thousands of workers and using it to file fraudulent tax returns.

The suspect who is in the U.S. on an expired visa according to prosecutors, went to America on Thanksgiving Day 2016, on a visitor’s visa but didn’t leave a week later as he was supposed to.

Lawal who allegedly committed the crimes a couple of months later, according to an arrest affidavit written by an FBI cybercrime investigator sent an email to a coastal Conneticut public school district employee that appeared to be from the school system’s superintendent. The email address was “superintendent.schools@aol.com.”

It was gathered that 100 “suspicious” 1040 forms were filed in the names of the school’s employees, including some who were owed refunds, the feds said. Three of the bunk refunds were processed, and $23,000 was dispensed from the IRS.

AJC reported that the IP address records showed that somoene at Lawal’s apartment in Smyrna had the sensitive information in email accounts. Another school district was duped and had 103 fake 1040s filed. A refund from one of those returns, totaling $4,207, was deposited into an account that had withdrawals in Marietta and Hiram. In another Connecticut district where 122 tax forms were filed in the scheme, Lawal made out with about $37,000 in tax refunds. .

Lawal also targeted school districts in Texas and Oklahoma, along with at least 11 businesses. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison for his wire fraud charges. The Nigerian man was arrested on May 9 following a federal criminal complaint at his residence. He appeared before a judge in Atlanta and was ordered detained pending his transfer to Connecticut.

John H. Durham, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, said the accused is charged with wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. He also stressed that a complaint is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt.

The Adelekes had a rare family moment when Davido held his plaques as he posed with his father and daughter, Imade.
In February this year, We reported that Davido received multiple plaques for the success of his 2017 hit songs: IF and Fall. At the time, IF was certified diamond while Fall was certified platinum.

Recently, Davido was in the mood of celebration, reveling in his musical success and he decided to take a shot of three generations of the Adeleke family. In the process, he showed off his diamond and platinum plaques for ‘IF’ and ‘Fall’ respectively. Each of the Adelekes in the shot wore lovely smiles as they took the family shot that many have been describing as the perfect definition of a family picture because it depicts love, success and achievement.

Stakeholders drawn from water related fields in the public sector, non-governmental organizations and corporate organizations including Coca-Cola Nigeria have agreed on the need for increased level of collaborations to tackle the challenges associated with water scarcity and its waste in Nigeria.

Speaking during a sustainable development symposium organized by Pan Atlantic University (Lagos Business School) held at the institution’s campus in Lekki, Lagos held recently in Lagos with the theme ‘From Global Goals to Local Action: Catalyzing Action Towards Sustainable Water Development’ the stakeholders declared that there was the need for government, corporate organizations as well as non-governmental organizations to partner in promoting sustainable water provisions and management in Nigeria which they noted would go a long way in bridging the demand gap for water access in communities.

Speaking during a panel discussion session of the symposium, Director, Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability, Coca Cola West Africa Business Unit, Mr. Clem Ugorji stated that it has become increasingly imperative for government and other critical stakeholders to work together to ensure water availability for all considering the population growth and limited access to potable water.

Ugorji disclosed that The Coca-Cola Company has been at the forefront of the campaign of sustainability, safe and clean environment through its numerous water initiatives but called for more collaborative and concerted efforts of the relevant stakeholders to ensure that water become readily accessible.

He restated the commitment of the company to continue to provide clean water to the environment noting that the drive for water efficiency by the company is anchored on these three key pillars; Reduce, Recycle and Replenish.

The company is committed to achieving water neutrality in the year 2020 by reducing the amount of water used

Ugorji said

“We recycle the water we use for manufacturing and return it to the environment safely. We give back to communities through local water initiatives. Beyond that, we also believe we have a broader responsibility to replenish water. ‘In our bottling plants, we closely monitor our water sources; minimizing the amount of water we extract from local surroundings. I also need to state that between 2015 and 2017 business year in Nigeria alone, we have improved our water use efficiency by 7.5%” he added.

While acknowledging the effort of Coca-Cola and other corporate organizations in the area of waste water collection, Ugorji disclosed that a broader coalition of industry players was already in force to tackle the challenge saying that the coalition remains committed to offering innovative solutions that would bring an end to the problem.

Ugorji disclosed that Coca-Cola has been actively involved in driving partnership in the provision of safe and drinkable water in several communities in Nigeria.

Ugorji who highlighted the significant effort of Coca-Cola system in the area of water availability and stewardship stressed that it is within its best practice to ensure that the company gives back to the system as much as it is currently consuming. According to him, the company is unrelenting in its commitment to meeting its 2020 water neutrality goal, i.e return to nature or communities equal amount of water its uses for its operation.

Also speaking at the symposium, a Don at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Lagos, Prof. Taibat Lawanson explained that there is need for government and the private sectors to work together to ensure efficient availability of water resources to the communities.

She attributed the poor delivery of water projects across communities by both government and corporate organizations to lack of proper engagement of the communities emphasizing that there was the need to carry them along right from conceptualization.

On his part, the Chief Operating Officer of Lagos State Water Corporation, Engineer Deji Johnson stressed the need for Nigerians as well as corporate organizations to show concern in the manner in which water is used.

He said:

We need to show that our water usage is in line with the need to make it sustainable. Let us understand that water is not an infinite product. We have a part to play in water sustainability. The sustainability of water for us depends on the actions we take”.

Affirming the clarion call for collaborations, Johnson said it was impossible for government to do it alone urging corporation organizations to increase the level of support to make water accessible to communities.

In her own remarks during the panel discussion, Dr. Ijeoma Nwagwu, a Faculty on Strategy and Sustainability at the Lagos Business School, commended corporate organizations including Coca-Cola for the invaluable role they have played in water sustainability drive over the years.

Nwagwu noted that the government cannot afford to ignore the place of the private sector in ensuring a safe and sustainable environment. She advised that all stakeholders should work together to make water more accessible to the people with little or no consequence to the environment.

Chris Brown has reportedly spent $30,000 on an extravagant birthday party for his daughter.

The ‘Don’t Wake Me Up‘ hitmaker is said to have gone all out on the Disney Princess themed bash as his little girl Royalty – whom he shares with ex Nia Guzman – turns four on Sunday

According to TMZ, Chris Brown and his former flame have put their differences aside for the joint party, which will see everyone from Jasmine to Cinderella making an appearance – including the latter’s Fairy Godmother.

Disney princesses as well as a horse and carriage are said to be attending the glitzy soirée where party-goers can choose from a plush menu to eat. According to TMZ, Chris Brown, 29, has set aside his differences with the mother of his daughter, Nia Guzman to host a joint party for Royalty.

The Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC, has began their nationwide recruitment for “suitably qualified” graduates into various cadres of the Corps, and here is all you need to know about it.

The Federal Road Safety Corp, Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. He said “qualified candidates” can apply for employment into the following positions;

Officer cadre
Marshal inspectorate (MI) cadre
Road marshal assistant cadre
Bisi Kazeem said for the Officer cadre, candidates are expected to possess a first degree from recognized institutions, NYSC Discharge Certificates, and must not be more than 30 years of age.

Kazeem noted that, For the marshal inspectorate cadre, there are three subcategories namely, marshal inspector I, marshal inspector II, and marshal inspector III. He said the requirements for MI-I are higher national diploma, NYSC discharge certificates, registered nurse and midwife, and must equally not be above age 30.

Also, the requirements for MI-II are Nigeria Certificate of Education (NCE), registered nurse or registered midwife. Applicants to this cadre, must not be more than 28 years old.

However, applicants for MI-III must possess national diploma, community health extension workers certificate (CHEW), and must also not be older than 28.

The statement further read;

“Application into the category of RMAII requires a minimum of 5 credits in SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB and must include Mathematics and English Language. For RMAIII, the requirement is a minimum of 3 credits in SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB. Applicants into the two categories of RMAs must not be more than 27 years of age.”

Kazeem said artisans and tradesmen fall into the same categories of RMAs, however, they must possess a minimum of four passes in SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB, have trade test or other professional certificates, as well as a valid class of drivers licence (for drivers and bikers), and must not be more than 28.

Applications to any of the cadres can be done through FRSC website www.recruitment.frsc.gov.ng

Shortlisted candidates are expected to come along with a printout of their forms as well as the acknowledgement slip for screening.

The FRSC said the exercise attracts no fee and applications must be submitted within six weeks of the publication of the advert.

Super Eagles attacker, Moses Simon has been ruled out of the 2018 world cup after he sustained an injury.

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, is now left with 29 players from which to select his team for the 2018 World Cup, after Moses Simon was ruled out of the tournament as a result of an injury.

Simon, who plays for Belgian Jupiler League side, Gent, will not feature in Monday’s friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, nor the subsequent game against England on June 2.

Rohr confirmed the development to news reports in Port Harcourt. He said;

The YBNL boss failed in a bid to fill out the 24,000 capacity Teslim Balogun Stadium back in December 2017 when he hosted the fourth edition of his annual OLIC music series. Despite this, Olamide still managed to gather a huge crowd at the venue.

Yesterday, we reported that a 19-year-old secondary school leaver, Confidence Nwanma was stabbed to death by her 24-year-old boyfriend, Saliu Ladayo after she reportedly laid a curse on him after he was seen with another woman.

The latest update on the incident, is that the family of the deceased has declared that the killer boyfriend must marry the corpse of the daughter in line with the tradition of the family.

Shortly after the killer boyfriend was arrested by police officers attached to the Ondo State Police Command, the father of the deceased Mr. Jude Nwanma, who spoke to Punch’s correspondent at his residence at Oke Aro, Akure, said that the custom must be observed in their home town in the Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State before his late daughter was buried.


According to him, failure to perform the traditional rite would cause calamity to befall the family of Ladayo.

“In our place, it is mandatory that the man must marry the corpse of our daughter. We must observe the custom by taking the corpse to our village where the marriage would take place.

“It is mandatory that he pays the dowry in double because he brought our daughter dead for marriage.

“He would observe all the dictates of the custom before our family would let him go. Without this, every young person from the family of the man will never get to the age of our daughter. They will die a sudden death just like our daughter.

” This is not our making; it is the way our ancestors put it down even before we were born. Our people all over the world are waiting for the court judgment. Whichever way it goes, the boy must perform the marital rite to our daughter’s corpse” he said.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, the suspect who was paraded at the headquarters of the state police command would soon appear in court.
