Car Talk / Re: My Advise To Anyone Buying A Nigerian Used Car Now by Sirwallace(m): 5:14am On Dec 09, 2023
This is is comprehensive.

I am looking to buy a Nigerian used car.

You mind pointing me to a dealer.

I would love to contact you too.

Thanks

I bought my first car from an owner and the second from a dealer and the experience I will share with you all.

The owner was deceitful despite being a close friend there were more things wrong with the car than they stated. A scanner is important when buying a car after 1996 and he lied it wasn’t scannable but it was they had hidden the OBD port. I fixed everything and added some personal touches to get the car I actually wanted. I didn’t source a mechanic before hand so I fell victim to roadside craftiness where they remove some of your parts and sell it back to you. Annoying experience but at least you know where not to go.

The dealer a better experience overall because you know where to go and have a receipt with the business name and you do see their legal name on the papers and they have much more to lose so they aren’t just looking for a quick buck to disappear. There were minor repairs needed but I always change spark plugs and coils to start afresh. if you research and have background knowledge of maintaining a car buying used car or new would not be any different. Test drive it and buy it there and then don’t go home to sleep over it because those 24hrs impact the kind of car you will come back to meet. For example some dealers swap brain boxes brakes and all that.

Overall have your preferred Rewire, a trust worthy mechanic and a trusted parts supplier and it will make a huge difference and give you peace of mind.

Secondly if you can afford it have cameras everywhere in the vehicle wifi backing up via GSM to another location.

When you’ve bought it reset the transmission so the car adapts to your driving style. Have a scanner and be good with your hands and be able to listen for trouble sounds and your car will last a long time. Immobilizer that only you know how to deactivate as well is necessary

Lastly Edmunds.com is where I go to check the ratings of all cars I’m thinking of purchasing or helping a client find. The feedback allows me to see what kind of vehicle I am buying and what kinds of problems are common.

cheesy

I can relate.

The fact that you do your job and have time to spare means that you've efficiently developed a system that works for you...

Don't even let naysayers get into your head...

If e easy, make them run am.

If you spend 30 mins to do a job, the company is paying you for the several months you used in learning how to deliver in 30 mins...and not the 30 mins you spent on the job.

Also, try & learn to play the game of office politics.
The data sphere is not really hardcore tech because you'd deal with a lot of personnel who you rely on for data...unlike in software engineering where it's you, your God and your code.

In my place of work, we use Google sheets as online data collation tool...sometimes, I lock the entire thing...so when you wanna make an input, you'll call my attention to it...and I unlock for you... afterall, na me build am.

Random acts like that really reduced the rate at which some never-do-wells left their own job to come and be checking what I do with my time...

You are very smart.

I solved some bugs for new guys where I work and they all looked at my like a genius.

What they don't realised is I have spent hunderds of hours debugging code and implementing stud they are just getting to know.

They pay me for those hundreds of hours higher than theirs like you said.

Hi everyone,

So I actually have an interview on Monday. I am applying for the role of a Data analyst/Scientist. Please can anyone who is experienced in that field or an HR here tell me the kind of questions to expect. I will really be grateful. Thank you.

For data science questions:

1st thing 1st, make sure you have a project you can walk them through on how you build your model.

read on implementation of end to end machine learning model from data collection, EDA, feature selection, feature engineering, model selection, training of the model, hyper parameter tuning and model deployment.

Read on performance metrics like confusion, matrix, f1_score, accuracy and precision for classification model and mea squared error and root mean squared error for regression.

Clearly state the difference between regression and classification problem.

Also read on Unsupervised learning and use case. For instance Kmean algorithm for Segmentation.

Read on Dimensional curse in ML and how to correct them with PCA

How to remove outliers

How to treat imbalance datasets.

Then some Python basics syntax with focus on numpy, pandas and visualization tools like seaborn and matplotlib.

I wish you the best of luck

What you listed above is the job of data analyst which is still included in the job of a data scientist. But data science goes beyond that, data science includes advanced statistics, predictive analytics, advanced object oriented programming, and using tools like hadoop, tensorflow and others. You will need knowledge of statistical modelling and algorithm because you will be dealing with very large data sets. You might also have to deal with machine learning, artificial intelligence, data mining etc

In summary, data analysis is a branch of data science.

Bro, you have a point. But in practice, Good knowledge of python and understanding of machine learning algorithm is what you need mostly in this space.

If you are doing deep learning, a lot of computational power is needed and trust me, that is not readilly available in most organizations in this country.

Only few are now moving their machine learning services to cloud environment. And even at that, many are still skeptical because of the payment plan.

And yeah, knowledge of statistics models is a must to Learn.

So If I were a newbie, I will focus on SQL, know python very well. Let Numpy and Pandas be your friend. Then understand the rudiment of traditional machine learning algorithms and how to optimize each algorithms with hyperparameter tuning and how to evaluate model performance.

Most industry problems you will see are mostly classification and regression problem and maybe a recommendation system (an unsupervised learning)

Deep learning can be an overkill in many cases. So focus on the above unless you have a GPU or TPU else, your system could crash.

See you guys at the top !!!!!!

Polygamy is only interesting when the kids are young.

The demerits of polygamy, especially in wealthy homes, start to manifest when the kids grow to understand the realities of life.

Things fall apart if the polygamous father dies intestate.

Except Davido makes a will, 60 years from today, these pretty moulds of pure beauty and innocence won't be sitting in one room. Even if they do, it wouldn't be without deep hatred, suspicion and envy.

Last year I was one of those who claimed that the institution of marriage has outlived its importance until I encountered the case of a polygamist whose younger children are unable to complete their education abroad because of his demise. His estate is valued at 10 billion naira and the court battle just commenced. These cases last up to three decades most times and are continued by Grand Children.

Don't get it wrong, there's rivalry and strive between children of same mother but nowhere near the scenes of shame children of different mothers act for inheritance.

Well said.

Seriously dude?! Jay Jay never played for money? Someone that snubbed Ferguson & Manchester united for a small club like Bolton because Bolton were offering him 80k pounds while Manchester united wanted to pay 50k pounds? He gave up numerous medals & personal accolades because of 30k pounds difference. He could've won African footballer of the year if he'd joined Manchester united. The dude made the wrong decision.

You took the word out of my mouth.

He would have become one of the greatest in ManU if he had accepted that offer.

Imagine him playing along side scholes, giggs and rooney at that time. Ferguson would have drilled some senses into him with his unserious attitude on the pitch. Dude could have been the Ronaldinho of England. But lost all of that for a house and some stupid trick on the pitch.

He lost it when he gets too comfortable with what Bolton gave him.

CourseEra is quite expensive.

I would advise you go for Udemy or Youtube.

Check a dude called MikeExcelIsFun on youtube.
He has everything you needed to start with from excel to power BI.

For python, search a dude called CodeBasics on youtube. He teaches python and machine learning like teaching kindergartens .

For SQL, go to pdfdrive.com and search for a book called LearningSQL. If you are not the book type, you can go for Udemy course too for that.

If you need some other stuff, remember, google is your friend.

we aren't talking about the stone ages or past bro

We are talking about our generation

Especially down Nigeria

The female folks are way ahead of their male counterparts

Go to different higher institutions to see for yourself

My department is a mixed one, the whole ladies graduated successfully without having extra year nor sleeping with any lecturers

While we have more than 12 guys with sumptuous numbers of outstanding results

My friend project was on performance of students across lagos state tertiary institutions

The female folks are doing pretty well than the male

This is the most foolish comment I have read so far.
So because no girl graduated without extra and not sleeping with lecturers in your school make you lot superior? Thats absurd.

And the lecture who graded your supposed friend's project need to be checked properly. He probably had a fling with your friend to accept that fallacy of a project.

The only best thing that has happened to female folk of this generation is Chimamanda Adichie.

The rest of you are bunch of idiots parading themselves as the best new thing on social media like you are doing right now.

So I brushed through excel by taking some course like analysing data using excel and other courses on Edx(videos) then currently learning sql using sql server express learnt basics using w3schools and sqlzoo which am done, practicing using ssms and sample database like(adventureworks and northwind) so refreshing. Also I have some PDFs book having questions and problem from beginner to advance on the sample database listed, once am done I will also take some courses on edX. Afterwards would move into python and other tools.
