You see the emphasis on believing in Jesus. It is what gives you eternal life. Read more below;

He said, that those who love Him are instead those who live their lives in continuous submission and obedience of His teachings(and commandments) - John 14 vs 15 - 25 - meaning the fruits to look out for, as far as whether an individual is of Jesus Christ or not, are the fruits of obedience to His teachings, God's New Covenant and Law in the Kingdom of God.
