Jobs/VacanciesThe Most Important Step I Took After I Was Sacked From A Bank-to Sacked Bankers by skillmyman(op): 1:53am On May 01, 2015
July 2014, I got to the office and I was handed by sack letter. The truth was that I did not see it coming so it was not that I had been planning for it but since it came, I had to move on with my life. I had worked in that same bank for 8 years.

The Bank is a place where many people work and they become useless to themselves because they did not become professionals throughout their stay in the bank. People handling the following desk are at risk:

Tellers
Marketers
Risk Managers
Operations staff

My advice to such people is to go for professional exams like ACCA, chartered secretaries, IT certifications, etc.
I was a computer science major and was in ebusiness when i was asked to go and the following were the steps i took.

1. Since My back ground was IT, i went back to a place of my core competencies because it was easy for me to start a consulting firm in my area of core competence.

2. I partnered with a trusted friend in starting the consulting firm since he was a marketer and had a lot of network. the truth is that we are in Nigeria. With a good product, you might not stand a chance but with a good network, you might be able to get a good product out.

3. We started marketing using the old relationships we had especially people who trusted us and knew our capabilities. We just started spreading the word round of what we were doing now.

4. We outlined the products our company was offering and for Most of the products we are offering, we carried out research and got reseller rights for such products since there was no need reinventing the wheel.

5. Throw in freebies for your clients. Since we were working with organizations, we were offering them free websites to attract them to us and we got a couple of our clients that way.

6. Outside the product we offered, any gap a client had, we take it up and outsource the job to competent hands and make some profit off it. That we did to convince our clients of our capabilities. We never told any of our clients we did not have competency in a job.

This last point has given us over 10Million Naira in 5 months because most of the IT jobs we got, we outsourced them on freelancing platforms. monitor the freelancer and review the product as days goes by and made sure it was according to what our client wanted.

My advice, you can become a freelancer based on any skill you have.
for example,
if you are familiar with business plan, then write for small businesses
If you are familiar with customer service, write a customer service guide for small businesses.
If you are familiar with product development, consult for those that want to start small business.
If you are used to carrying our research, then become a research consultant .

Advertising is highly needed and the following platforms are platforms that you can advertise your skills and you are sure on these platforms and when you carry out a job (following the rules of the platform), your money will be paid.

http://www.mikazi.com
http://www.odesk.com
http://www.freelancer.com
http://www.fiverr.com

today, i am almost grateful that i was sacked from that job. Mine was not a bad transition which I am grateful to GOD for but not everyone that was sacked had it these rosy. Prepare before you get to the point I got to in July 2014.

if you need a FREE guide on these,go to http://www.learnfreelanceconsulting.com

nairaland is also a very good source of ideas.

You can also ask questions and I will try to answer to the best of my abilities.

cheers.

BusinessRe: Which Business Can Someone Do Online To Make Money by skillmyman(m): 3:42pm On Apr 12, 2015
Hi.
You can also try your hands on affiliate marketing. in fact tried affiliate marketing on konga and i made money from it. easiest way is to get a facebook account. go to and apply as an affiliate.

after the approval, log into konga affiliate page, click on promotions, click on campaigns and you will see a list of adverts with ur affiliate ID embedded in it. copy the urls and paste them on ur facebook page. If anyone clicks through the url to buy products from konga, then you will get between 3-9% of the value of the product. this method is hinged on the assumption that you have a lot of contacts on your facebook.

the second option is for you to create a facebook page and advertise the url using fb paid ads.

why i am not fully into the konga affiliate business is because i am already doing very well in the freelance consulting i discussed above.

best of luck.

Tselebia:
more information please
hello Tselebia.

a lot of people have skills but they do not have a platform to market their skills while other people have one off projects or jobs that they dont need to recruit permanent people for.
people also carry out jobs and dont get paid because of Nigeria factor. (a lot of this abound on nairaland)

the idea of mikazi is for those that have skills (provider) to register on the platform while those that have jobs or projects to post it on the portal with how much they are willing to pay.

a provider with the skills for that job can bid either higher or lower and both have to agree before the customer can award the job.
in awarding the job, you pay the full pr part of the total amount into escrow account or deoending on the milestone agreed. the money can only go back to you if there is arbitration.
after work is done, the customer is satisfied with the work done, he releases the money in escrow into your own ewallet account and also gives a feedback on the job.

income lines are:
a percentage of the cost of the project goes to the platform
a percentage of the amount you are withdrawin from your ewallet goes to the platform

a provider pays a fixed amount to be able to bid for more jobs
a customer pays a fixed amount to be able to feature his job as urgent on the home page.

My name is bola.
used to be a manager in a commercial bank until i was eased out in july 2014.
started a freelance consulting business with a friend of mine and we are making millions today.
what we do is get jobs and outsource them on freelance platforms. with this, we only need marketing people since all the jobs we get are outsourced to reduce overhead.
we now have a 3M naira office in abuja with a brand new car we bought for marketing.

i believe it is better you have a good knowledge of your area of consulting. i have a background in IT software development so it was easy for us to start an IT consulting firm.

we also registered our business we CAC so that organizations can take us serious.

You dont have to reinvent the wheel so whatever the need of our client, we get reseller rights to sell it in Nigeria. this gives us at least 20-30% of the price apart from the extra you have to add.

You also have to be smart in outsourcing your jobs because a lot of people are out there to swerve you. Mostly our outsourcing is outside Nigeria though we have a guy we outsource to in Nigeria but the work will be too much for him
you also need to be watchful of the quality of work.

the truth is there is so much to learn.

get a free ecourse i wrote on this business model at http://www.freedom4naija.com

it is eye opening.

cheers

hi,
I have a freelance platform called mikazi. it is a platform where freelance professionals register and customers that have projects post their projects while the professionals with the required skills can bid for the project. this platform is already tested and working but i need an investor for the marketing aspects of the platform. there are various sources of income on the platform and it is a platform designed with the sole objective of reducing unemployment.

TravelRe: I Am In Dilemma, Do We Relocate To Canada Or Stay Back by skillmyman(m): 8:51pm On Feb 28, 2015
hello,
i was in that kind of dilemma in 2003. i was in a bank and my wife was 3 months pregnant and I had an admission to in Saskatchewan. the truth is that you are not sure of a job even after your postgraduate degree. You guys are not citizens and trust me they will consider their citizens first before you.

My advice is this. get the visa but dont leave immediately with your husband. let him go and see how it is and you can both decide if you are to join him or not.
Forex trading cannot be seen as a job. i have done it before but it is too fluid to give a consistent earning. Your husband must decide that now you are both expecting a child, he has to get a concrete thing doing.

all the best at your decision but please, never think of staying back in naija when your husband travels o. u must follow ur husband. Looking after a child as a single parent is not yam!

With the slide in the price of crude oil with no end in sight, The 2015 budget for the country has hit the rocks.
Nigeria relies 90% on crude oil and with the issues on ground which is affecting every part of the economy, oil giant across the world are sacking their workers in droves and this has also started in Nigeria first with the banks sacking their staff since the deposit from the oil sector is not coming as it used to.

For now, unemployment is going to increase drastically and it is important that we get ready to face the reality.
It is also important to note that employers will prefer to outsource some projects to reduce the overhead cost and this is where freelancing makes the difference.

To be able to freelance successfully, you must have a skill that can earn you income. skills like :
programming
web development
mobile apps development
article writing
graphic designs
social media consulting
business plan writing
website design
etc.

These are skills that can make you a regular income without even knowing the person that is giving you the job.

in order to be a freelancer, there are a lot of courses online that you can take advantage of. some of the online courses are as follows

www.coursera.org
www.skillfeed.com
www.lynda.com
and many more.

thanks Ferhyntorlah,
will try and learn how to design covers.
the truth is, not many people have the time.
there are actually two types of people here,
those that want to use kindle as a passive income and those that
actually rely on kindle publishing as their only source of income.

for some like twosquare said, $20.00 is not very important but i really
understand your point which is if you are outsourcing, it rather be supper good.

i appreciate the candid comment

BusinessRe: How Can I Make Money Online by skillmyman(m): 2:01pm On May 28, 2011
there are many ways to actually make money online but trust me, none of thems is easy.
You need to think out of the box for you to be successful online.

What makes money the most online is actually either selling other peoples products or selling your own products.
In selling other peoples products, you earn a commission from eahc product sold while when selling your own products, you get 100% of the selling price.

You can also find a niche, get a product for free online and sell the product at a fee to people.

This is a shame! The objective of NYSC scheme is to foster unity among the youths after the civil war. almost 40years after establishing the scheme, it is obvious that it has not fostered the needed unity.

Has there been anytime in the west or south-east or south-south that there is riot and corpers willl be targeted?
I think the strategy of puttin NYSC in place need to be revisited.

if you agree with me, pls make your opinion count this link:
