Career › Re: Is It Good For A Boss To Slap An Employee by Skywalker5(m): 12:12pm On Jul 12, 2015 |
khukhi: I noticed that it seems acceptable in nigerian society for bosses to slap employees/maids/servants. It should not be acceptable to be little another person because that's partly discriminating against the person because of they're occupation (since they're inferior to the boss).
In SA u can take the boss to the CCMA for such a thing and they will be fined heavily and will have to compensate you...im not sure what action he can take there but maybe he should have a discussion with the boss and bosses boss to explain that the situation is unacceptable and should never happen again and what will happen should it happen gain. He should make it clear that he can easily slap him/her back but chooses not to do so out of respect for his/her position and for future employment relations between the two. I am not sure if there is a law against mistreating employees in naija. I have seen a lot of bad practice in companies in naija. personally i feel there is so much lawlessness in Naija. i am sure that employer will get away with it if this case goes to court. |

shadowgwalker: ...but they can call a blackman 'niggah' and go free.
Well. I blame my bros them.as for me nah this naija I dey. Anyone can be gay. Gay is not just a white man's thing. I know in Nigeria, people mock, insult and sometimes beat them.i have read about how a lady was raped because she was a lesbian. This is the same thing black people went through before slavery was abolished. Now its gays its affecting and people feel its acceptable to insult them. I find it hard myself to understand how a man will not be attracted to a woman but to a man but this guys are not doing anything wrong. They just want to live among every other human being, same thing black people suffered during the slavery era. |

Eddodoh: Sir, I must confess dat u guys are molding me & I am beginning to see how to do things differently. I will meet one d IT guys in my office today.
Being a Call Center Agent. I really nid to drop d headset where you talk & work like a robot & being micromanage. You might be shown d way out 4 not meeting certain KPI's. I don't think dats wat i will like to do in the future. Doesn't seem like a career. Hence, the nid to chart a career path. Mikky is right? You need to have a chat with the guys in the system and find out which skills are in demand and which company requires them. I remember after my Masters in UK, i was looking for a job and could not find one and i knew lots of people were getting IT jobs without IT degrees.I had a chat with one of the guys and he explained to me which skills were in high demand. I figured out lots of companies were using Microsoft servers and active directory was in use a lot.I went for my Server training, did the exam and tailored my CV towards a Microsoft server role. I got a job 8 weeks later and i progressed from there since i was in the system. Now i am not saying thats is how it's going to be in Nigeria. All i am saying is you will have a better chance if you have IT skills that are transferable. |
Career › Re: My Career Dilemma by Skywalker5(m): 6:01pm On Jul 05, 2015 |
Eddodoh: I av bin on a cross-road wit regards to dis same issue. I spent my little NYSC allawee on some courses & till date, I am yet to see how relevant those certificates are to me despite having them on my CV.
Recently, i want go for another certification because of d bad labor market. But i pause & think if dats wat i really nid, though i present work as a call center agent.
I am thinkin of either stayin on my present job & garner enough experience or continue searchin 4 jobs which may not be related to my present experience. It depends on the certification that you are doing. you need to ensure that the skill is high in demand in Nigeria. There are many certifications out there which i feel is not in high demand in Nigeria. for example, i don't think a lot of companies are using System center in their organisation in Nigeria (i might be wrong) so doing a cert on that might still not help in securing another job(IMHO). I don't know how it works in Nigeria but you need to try and figure out which one is in demand. i know lots of Nigerians were doing cisco a lot back in 2006-2009 but i can't say if that is still in high demand than some other Microsoft certifications. |
