Is that how they do it in the UK, USA, Canada, Italy and those other places where Lagosians, Nigerians and black Africans are risking their lives to cross the desert and Mediterranean Sea just to be under-employed, work their arse off contributing to the development of these oyinbo societies while ours rot away WITHOUT even been acknowledged for their efforts huh

Trust me, UK has its own problem but they don't talk about it the way we Nigerians do. Most African government are criminals. This is a well know fact. They think about themselves a lot. The Mayfair apartment in London (One of the most expensive in UK) has a lot of Nigerian politicians as owners. They have stolen a lot from Nigerians and nothing can be done about it. I dont even trust Buhari.

I can't talk a lot but let me ask you. What do you want Nigerians to do? . I don't want to take this topic to politic but i'll really like to hear your opinion.

You cant look at it that way. I understand what you are saying but everyone has to be hopeful and not depend on the government for everything. We as Nigerians have to try and make a way out of no way. We have to be inspired to do things. If you keep complaining and talking about negative stuffs, no one will want to do anything.

Who should enter farm and work? The 2:1, 2:2 or 3rd class? Smh. Nigerian mentality. If you a graduate with a degree and cant pull your own weight, you an embarrassment.
That's why there is so much unemployment in Nigeria. They feel they have to work for someone because of 1st class and 2.1

. Again you're quoting few cases which are exceptions these days. How many openings are there for apprentices in top telco companies? Don't 4get that until mid 90s, graduates were not that many. If some had technical training with Sky or BT 25 years ago, that was quite normal then. Most firms have graduate schemes now but very few apprentice scheme. Even most recruitment agencies and estate agents now require a degree. Just browse monster or guardian jobs. In any case, the topic wasn't about whether there is any need to go to uni or not but about degree class. If one thinks doing MCSE is enough to land well-paying IT jobs, why do a degree then?
In countries like UK, you don't need a degree to get a job (well not all jobs). You are using telecom companies as examples. Those ones are different.what about other SME companies?I know a technical analyst without a degree or certification who works for a cyber security firm. Its everywhere. i use IT as an example because that's the field i know but i also know project managers who don't have degrees in UK. During interview, they evaluate you and see if you are a good fit for roles.
Recruitment agencies don't require degrees. That's the mistake most Nigerians that graduate in the UK make and they complain that they don't get jobs. You'll see a Nigerian with CV full of certifications and schools but no experience.Certificate is preferred but not required. Recruitment agencies will look for experience first which is why most people go for apprenticeship. You don't need to be a graduate to find apprenticeship jobs.Any college student can apply.

Now i am not saying you dont need a degree to work in places like Lloyds bank or Virgin Atlantic. what i am saying is that you can still get an ideal job or professional job without degree. You just have to prove that you know what you are doing and can fit in.

.

That's not always true.

The best jobs still go to 1.1 & 2.1. Even those jobs that advertise 2.2 minimum may eventually end up employing 2.1 and above only.

A friend graduated from a top UK university with 2.2. He didn't get good jobs. Until he got his MSc.

Bu I also know of a 1.1 girl from a top UK university who struggled to get a job initially (I guess it was her salary expectation) but landed a plum job later on. I was already advising her to go for a PhD before she got the job. Yes, it was still easier to skip MSc with a 1.1 then.
It depends on what you call best job.If you are talking about banks and some big organisations , then you are right but there are lots of SME companies in UK who have non graduates and pay very well.My former manger at my previous job was not a graduate and he was getting paid well.I know a lot of people in IT with no university degree but started as apprentice. All you need is for someone to give you that break and learn. Most organization dont discriminate when it comes to jobs. There are some jobs that needs a graduate and some dont need.In UK,experience counts more than certificate in most jobs. One of the top cyber security firms in the world that has a branch in UK still employs non-graduate as their technical analyst.it's not a required option but a preferred option for some roles.

i feel sorry for most 2.2 and 3rd class graduates in Nigeria. in developed countries, most don't even care what you graduate with as long as you have experience, enter through trainee or apprenticeship programs

To even win this league once is like the Holy Grail. Can you blame niggas like me, Galacticos, Azpi, Mubz and Ritchboi who won it once and couldn't challenge for it again?

There are 150 players in this game. That means on average a man who plays this game for 75 years will need 2 lifetimes just to win the trophy once. Stastistically speaking, to win it just once is a legendary achievement.

I think d Op made it clear if you an investor with ideas, and enough capital u wld make it big like MTN. dough d challenge are inevitable
There are lots of people with ideas and capital but without the basic infrastructure in Nigeria, they have failed.
For example, If an investor starts an Infrastructure as a service cloud company in Nigeria, the investor has to also start thinking about 24 hours electricity, fibre infrastructure in Nigeria, Security. This are not what investors should be worrying about. The infrastructure should already be in place. There are lots of investor who will want to invest in Nigeria but with corruption and lack of infrastructure, they don't bother. Companies like MTN might be helping in terms of job creation but they are also ripping Nigerians off. Look at how much you guys pay to make phone calls. Its too expensive but there is no one to fight for the general public. You cant stream HD movies with your internet.Lot of video content business that can make money but how many users in Nigeria will want to stream videos all the time without complaining of MB? There are lots of things Nigeria can benefit from which will make big money but the infrastructure is not in place. Why do you think Dunlop left Nigeria?

good point apart from that Land of opportunity. Those reasons you gave are not valid enough. There are lots of Nigerians with lots of business ideas but the infrastructure is not there yet.Corruption is not even allowing the youths to implement a lot of their ideas. till we have the infrastructures in place and reduce corruption,i am not sure if Nigerian can be called land of opportunity.

Besides the British won't vote for him as prime minister. This will give UKIP more power.British people are still angry at having Asian and black MP,u think they will now want a black PM?
