It should be blocked. i work in IT department here and the amount of time people spend on facebook really affects productivity and a decision was made to block it.People just go there to gossip and chat to friends on there.

Perhaps you directed your question in the wrong section?

Before the advent of BIS in Nigeria, BES was in existence. Globacam pioneered the service provision in the country. I know a couple of firms (financial institution) with the BES infrastructure in place.
But at the moment is microsoft server and exchange server used a lot in companies in Nigeria? If No how to they run thier IT infrastuture and security. I am curious because i know about microsoft server and its good but i dont know what application companies in Nigeria use?

I recently asked this question but did not get any response. I work with server exchange and blackberry here but never heard of it before i left Nigeria. I dont know if its in use in Nigeria
Technology Market › Are Microsoft Sever And Exchange Server Used In Nigeria by Skywalker5(op): 8:18am On Nov 10, 2011
i have checked jobs online and even tried getting information about companies but i hardly hear of people talking about Microsoft servers and exchange. I work in Uk and its very popular here and makes life easier to be an administrator but sometime down the line,i would love to work in Nigeria but i never heard of them while i was in Nigeria.Maybe it due to the fact i did not get an IT job back in Nigeria but if you work in organizations in Nigeria,Can you just say if you use Microsoft server or what servers do u run?

Different stories for different folks! It's simple, life in the UK is not a bed of roses! You pay as tax almost everything you work hard for; and one thing is for sure- YOU MAKE NOTHING AT THE END!!!

Healthcare is certain, but not free; Power is constant, but not free; road network is perfect, but 80% of the people still fail the driving test (the tax you pay on your car is enough to start a business back home; talk of accommodation, a three bed apartment goes for 1500-2700 pounds per month (calculate those figures for two years, and evaluate the cost of erecting a three bed bungalow in Nigeria); You bye a TV set, you pay tax on it (even if you get any TV station or not); paying almost 100 pounds every month on "council" tax for your home, is definitely no child's play either, I can go on and on.

Yes, someone did say something about security. In Nigeria, the rule of law is lacking totally, while in the UK, abuse to privileges and the likes is very minimal.

And to cap it up, with your black face and racial background, its almost impossible to secure a permanent job in the UK!

It's simple as those!!!
with my black face.I got my IT job in uk when it was a nightmare to get in Nigeria. And for the expensive part of uk.Yes, i would rather pay it all and have good quality of life .Even a cleaner here has good quality of life here. Nobody cares how much you got in the bank.Thats Naija mentality

Yes ericko i completely agree with your comment about the cv thing and most companys based in Manchester to have offices in London is correct. she is a British and she has had experience in this role in the past atleast morethan 2 years. from your comments i can tell the kind of person your like, your the outgoing type, well in opposite i love a very calmed life seriously, living in remote area completely chilled out from the stress of 8million people in a little city. living large with token and with the idea that my children wont eva have to speak init init in their life time is simply great.
I agree on that 100% .

See you situation is EXACTLY what I'm on about. Getting something on the side whilst one is looking for a decent job. I hear that often times they don't even wanna give you care job because they say you're over qualified with a Masters. I just know a few folks that are going through it right now so my heart goes out to them. It is actually quite sad.
Thats another reason why people dont get a job at all. when i applied for the care job then and in my qualification field i wrote up to secondary level. There no reason to say masters. They know you will run away once you get a graduate job.You dont have to tell them everything. thats what i did and when i was leaving i told them i wanted to try something else.

I guess I see what you mean. I've got some friends in the UK finding it hard to get something even if it's a cleaning job or something. It is different here where I live. Getting a menial job isn't hard to come by. Some Nigerian families here a living comfortably working in group homes and doing care work. As long as you wanna work; they'll give it to you. They don't care if you've got a college degree or not. I live in the US in case you were wondering
Well to be honest,in portsmouth where i am.There are loads of menial jobs.I did care for 6 months before i got my dream job.It might take people new in town 2-3 weeks but they will get a job.Thats the problem people face trying to live in London. The quality of life outside London is far better. You dont get loads of competition around her like london. Customer service jobs are even here as 3 of my friends just got the job. I still say to people.Life outside London is better and there is no stress here.People call it a village but at least i am happy.I see loads of naija in london and i keep wondering what they are doing there. The traffic and expensive stuff there is enough to drive me away

Also I hear that getting a menial job is hard over there if you've got a masters because you're considered to be over qualified for it. Doesn't make much sense to me because if you're willing to work then you should be able to get it.
Depends on how u see it.Its everywhere. Lots of companies are looking for experienced people and dont have time to educate people.I know that for a fact because in the jo i am.I am left to do things on my own.I have to think hard and find solutions online. In Uk here. One thing i noticed is they dont care if you got PHD.they will prefer someone with experience. but some few companies do respect certificates but not a lot. They just want to get on with the job here

Depends if you stay in london where its over crowded and expensive. Places like hampshire is cool. The quality of life i get here is so cool. No traffic. Get to work within 30 min of driving. No Noise. Easy access to shopping and a whole lots of stuff. Dont need to drive to go out in the vening. Buses are on time and taxis are there. How can you say its bad. I will say it depends on where you stay. Lots of people wants to stay in london cuz its the heart of UK not bothered about the quality of life.

Its funny how people condemn what they do not have. I have been in the UK for the past seven (7) years and I did my masters here. After graduation I got a good job and decided to stay back.
Have friends that rushed off to Nigeria Bank Jobs and most of them are out of work for the past 2-3 years now and looking to come back to the UK.

Most people who have been refused UK or US visa are the ones carrying these "UK & US guys are only doing menial jobs"
Yes, do you know that most guys working security in the UK get paid more than you guys in Nigeria. Lets do the maths.
A Security guy in London works an average of 8hrs each day for £10/phr, 6days a week
8 x £10=£80
£80 x 6 = £480 each week equivalent to 120,000 naira - that is using the basic £1 = 250naira (i know its is more as of today.
How many "Average Nigeria in the civil service earns 100K each week please
Lets stop hating and start making NIGERIA A BETTER PLACE. One can easily get a job here without being connected to the boss or manager but in Nigeria, you have to know the personally ti land a good job!!!
Good point on the highlighted sentences.
Education › Re: Nigeria Graduate Vs Foreign Graduate by Skywalker5(m): 1:13pm On Aug 18, 2011
AjanleKoko:
But seriously now. This is a baseless comparison. You know why I think so?

Firstly, the best of the best in Nigerian universities usually travel abroad immediately after finishing school. The majority do, at least.

Secondly, the vast majority of 'foreign' graduates, only went abroad for postgraduate studies, a year or two at best. One year or two cannot dramatically expose you and transform you,  from a medicre Nigerian graduate into a world-class graduate. Most people who consider themselves foreign graduates, even those that went to top tier schools, certainly do not fall into the 'best of the best' category. When they left Nigeria, they were mostly average, or a bit above average.

So . . . I don't know. The education in Nigeria is terrible, without a doubt. But somehow it still manages to produce some darned good eggs. I mean, really good. MNCs have always recruited from Nigerian universities and sent them abroad, even sponsored their education. The likes of Shell, Mobil, Chevron, do this consistently, year in year out. They get the best of the best guys, and send them abroad for training and so on, and bring them back to work in Nigeria. In fact, for every Nigerian they recruit from abroad, they recruit 5 from Nigeria. The Nigerians coming from abroad are not usually merit-based recruitment, usually strings pulled by one person or the other, but the Nigerians recruited locally have to go through the merit process.

I needed to interview a corper recently. One of them was from some uni in the states. The other one was from Unilag. The foreign-trained guy had a great CV and had a lot to say, but could not answer any of my job-related practical questions. The chap from Unilag could. So you just wonder, really.
He was not foreign trained. He was foreign taught.Taught is different from being trained. Like i said earlier,Nigerian graduates are good but not enough resources. The difference between someone who studied in Nigeria and abroad to me is the certificate which is worthless to me. It is what the person can do with the available resources they have that matters. That one went to school to get a degree and think thats the end.But reading continues after you  finish which most people dont understand.SThe only reason i would employ foreign graduate is if he has something that is not available to Nigerian graduates. Not certificate but knowledge of some specific things.Which is why it make job hunting hard for people even in abroad because they stopped learning when they graduate.
