The good thing is Nigerians are now doing more of research rather than buying technology and maintaining it. This does not look up to standard but at least its going to a good direction and if other researcher learn this technology and build on it,it gonna be better. At least that way developed countries do. They learn and understand someones else's idea and they find a way to make it better.

What is the proximity of Broad Street to Adeniji/Idumagbo/Idumota axis? It is not walking distance so why are you trying to discredit the story? Why not take a N100 bike to the affected area and then report back.

Naija.

How come no one is talking about Cloud Computing?
My Naija boys are on fire. that's great . I dont really know much about cloud computing cuz we dont use it at my current work place but from what i know, its a service which is provided to companies so IT administrators dont really handle that aspect a lot here. If there is a problem, they call.

By gadgets, i mean more than routers. The whole works: routers, switches, VPN Concentrators, IDS, etc.

Only the top dogs can afford such deployments, and they'd rather employ a CCNP/CCIE to manage/consult.

Compare that number to the x100,000 small businesses that need just a CCNA/MCSA/jack-of-all-trades.

All in all, it pays to have a wide array of certs/specialties under one's belt, and then to advance each as each job/contract demands.
You right but then it a case of Jack of all trades. It feel it would be easier if there were lots of organization that allows people to focus on particular thing. E.g the internet and Networking is so vast now, i cant even keep up to it. I am learning Cisco Microsoft,VMware,Citrix and a whole lots. i can only learn how it works and mayb do basic troubleshooting but that does not make me a specialist in all those field . I personally would love to focus my attention on email security and web security but at the moment i just have to learn what is required. I have friends who are into firewall and security and it helps them a lot cuz they focus their attention on that and its big bucks. Not a lot of organization offers that. Like you said, the big companies stays on Cisco while the rest just do join join.

lots of folks have CCNP, but Cisco gadgets are popular only amongst the ISPs , banks, Telcos, O&G coys and big companies.

SMBs use Netgear, D-Link, Windows/Linux servers, etc.
When you say gadgets,do you mean most of their gadgets are cisco or just thier routers. where i work we use just Cisco as the router and others are netgears. I see this trend a lot in uk here. i have never seen a Cisco Switch (well just one from the site my company just acquired) but most swicthes dont need to be managed,

I asked this question because people say i should go for Cisco certificates and CCIE when most of the products of everyuday use of most IT guys are Microsoft Symantec, VMware. i personally feel once someone has ccna and learns how to connect routers for a company and mayb site to site VPN, i feel thats enough from Cisco unless he wants to be a consultant. there so many things to learn in IT and trying to be CCIE and not know other technologies which are more common than Cisco does not really sit well with me. I am kind of like scared of Cisco cuz i have to keep typing command all the time.

Update your graphic card drivers. Having avast on your computer does not guarantee virus not entering your system. I would suggest you install malwarebyte and run virus scan on ur system.
Computers › Re: Thread For Infrastructure, Networks, Virtualisation And Cloud Computing by Skywalker5(m): 3:39pm On Feb 14, 2012
Just a quick question. Is Nigeria really into Cisco or companies just like people with Cisco certificates?
Computers › Re: Thread For Infrastructure, Networks, Virtualisation And Cloud Computing by Skywalker5(m): 1:50pm On Feb 13, 2012
Well i thought cloud computing only allows you access to applications. for example, you need to open your office 2007 word document and you don't have office 2007 installed on your system, cloud computing allows to connect to their application services so you can view your files. Your files still remains on your local desktop.  more like Citrix xen app.

Wow guys check this out. My Company just installed Citrix on their network and its is so freaking cool. i dont have to worry about software installation via group policy or going to each computer to install software. The down part is i have to start learning Citrix like hell. But anyone here has experience with Citrix?

so gud 2 find dis kind of thread on NL. I personally have a lot of questions i've bn willing 2 ask.
I got introduced 2 configuring servers during my part 4 i.t. I also had d opportunity of writing 1 of d MCSE exams. (70-640).
Wat bothers me is dat pple kip sayin Cisco platforms are better. I want 2 knw if continuing wit microsoft is ok
It depends. Cisco platforms are better in security but they are expensive i just love Microsoft because it easier to use( click next, next). Also there are lots of manufacturers like netgear which are cheaper and easier to configure. All this depends on you and the environment you find yourself. i am in an environment where Microsoft is more common than Cisco and i feel Microsoft is definitely getting better. I would say continue with microsoft server, then go onto exchange and then blackberry. i feel you be a lot better and you already started with Microsoft.Dont stop. i am very confident with Microsoft and i am learning exchange and blackberry. i would say if you need to learn networking. do CCNA. Well i would advise you do CCNA also and see which is better. For me Microsoft rocks

I have seen undue attention Nairaland users pay to the Bishop and his pastor Enoch Adeboye, i.e from expensive university to planes and recently slapping, What of the imams nobody mentions them,

Anyway i like the moslems they would have launched jihad on Seun if this nairaland has posted criticisms on any of their highly placed imams, alfas or ustaz, kudos to my moslem brothers.

Talking about the slapping,if it were my moslem clerics we would have killed or beheaded the girl if she did not accept our doctrine or religion period, slapping is too gentle for us
Can u imagine the rubbish you are saying? so it alright for her to be slapped ?

@Sky-walker, what if its a symbian os software that needs to be built, what application we you advice to use,  smiley
To be honest, i am not the best person to ask but my application was for Nokia mobile phones.I think the Nokia phones are Symbian so you should be fine with J2ME.i am more into hardware and networking than programming.I dont like programming. I used J2ME and use Netbeans to compile the codes. There is a website which Nokia has.I have forgotten the link but you can search for it. When you develop an application, you can upload the jar file and you can test the compatibility with most Nokia phone.

Check here http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Remote_device_access/   . think that were you can upload it too. You can also import it to your phone but it wont work perfectly as it keeps asking you to admin rights every time you want to access data. you have to sign it with Nokia and that expensive.

dustydee:
Any tutorial sites available? saw one on adobe website.
I downloaded lot of book then but i will try and see if i can find them but to understand J2ME, you first need to understand JAVA as a whole. Mine was a project so i just learnt one part and just manage to get some functions to work by searching codes online

Programming › Re: How Do I Develop A Mobile Application? by Skywalker5(m): 5:17pm On Dec 12, 2011
I designed a mobile application during my masters. I used J2ME. its not really the easiest thing for me as i hate programming.
To develop that ,you will need to learn J2ME and learn the GPS concept. This kind of application is currently being used in the UK.
If you not going to use GPS. then you will need to create a search box which maps restaurant to cities or states.you will need the address of all the restaurants populated into your database and users can search by location.
P.S if this is a school project. i would advise against GPS as the easiest way is create search options for users and you can also create addition link for people to register their restaurant on your app

This very simple. U cannot compulsory it to me that i must reward u because u help me. If i need your help and if its convinent for you then help, if u cant, then tell me. Its very simple. Before you help me, why dont u explain the conditions attached to the help you?
This issue is just 1+1=2. very very simple. If u know you have a lot in your mind before u render the help, why dont u furnish me with the conditions and the reward you will be expecting from mehuhhuhhuh?

Must i clean your room, watch your plates, serve you food while u're in bed, watch your personal toilet, borrow a lot money from me and never pay bac, using me anyhow and taking your kids to the school, toping up your light every 6 weeks, ALL IN THE NAME OF ACCOMMODATING ME FOR WEEKShuhhuh?

shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked   Justwise and Co.Limited, i hail una,  grin grin grin grin grin grin
It not compulsory. Its just common sense. How long will someone be sponging off others in UK when you can go out there and get a job and live on your own. If you cant live and assist in someone's home ( who is on benefit that can hardly sustain the family). Get a job and move out. Simple

is this a dig at justwise by the poster or what because both arguments have their points and it should not tbe taken personal at all
every1 is entitled to their opinion yes Nigerians can take the piss sometimes but whether u like it or not you cant live in a house for free this is not Nigeria even if it is in Nigeria any individual that would like to live in a house and be working and not contribute must look at their own conscience, if you cant contribute financially then some other way
Nigerians likes what they call ifa (free things) too much. If they dont get it again, they start complaining. you just have to read the first post to understand.Does not make any sense living with someone and not getting a job. UK is not Nigeria where you have to be a graduate before getting a job.
