Hi everyone, I received an email from my international house about a survey to tell the CIC what we think of the proposed study immigration changes. This is a summary of what the changes would entail as in the email "If these changes are made law, the impacts for you could be: - you could be allowed to hold a study permit only if you attend an institution designated by the province to host international students; UBC is expected to be on the list of designated institutions, so UBC students could still be eligible to apply for study permits - you could be required to actively pursue studies after arrival in Canada in order to hold your study permit - if you are in an academic program of at least six months, you could be eligible to work off-campus part-time without a work permit as soon as you begin studies - if you are a new visitor, you could be eligible to apply for an initial study permit from within the country, if you fit the proposed list of programs - other student work programs are not expected to change, including on-campus work, co-op work permit, spouse/partner work permit and post-graduation work permit - the ability to study without a study permit in a program of less than six months as a new visitor or worker is not expected to change". the full gazette is here http://www.gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2012/2012-12-29/html/reg1-eng.html My 2 key points from here when it is passed is 1. the no of sch accepting int students may reduce, especially the colleges and private univ.2. u may now be able to work off campus on arrival. Just thought this may be of interest. 1 Like |

Cuddlemii:Totally agree with this submission. Its all about packaging your application properly. U of T, McGill n UBC are the top 3 in Canada and are thus very competitive. In my Faculty, I was the only black admitted in my cohort(talk less of Nigerian). In fact I was advised by someone not to apply to UBC cos I may not be admitted (thereby wasting C$153 app fee.....very much abi!)......but my stronghead no gree ne accept that defeat before even trying. I applied to UBC, SFU, U of A ans U of Sask and got accepted to U of Sask n UBC. UBC turned out to be the Cheaper (automatic international partial tuition scholarship)and better option by far. My advice, apply to 3 or 4 schools, select based on ranking (reason i chose UBC), previous history of admitting Nigerians(for my course SF, U of Sask), the schools reputation with your course (SFU and U of A). Applying to only UBC and McGill, i must tell u, is a dangerous game to play even with GP or 4.4 ( u will not believe the kind of GPs the Chinese students apply with in UBC). Don't forget to pay attention to every detail in your application......All the best 2 Likes |

Dehonourable: Hi house, pls is anyone in UBC, Vacouver? I learntd d schl gives sm stipend automatic to all graduates students out of the Tuition fees per annum and dat wuld covers living xpenses. because am planning to apply for Msc Chemical engineering. Pls, how competitive is their admission?Yea UBC awards an international partial tuition scholarship for many but not all graduate courses and not same value for all. the highest is $3,200 per annum (roughly 35% of tuition and fees) so its a good offer. UBC is competitive with a high Chinese population. Finding a black on campus is rather difficult let alone a Nigerian. I know a couple of Nigerians though (after thorough search.....lol)....but hey I we could get in, why not u....its just one of those universities after all. spencer3705:Bro....one love. We are same in the struggle. However, I want u to realize that dis is a forum where people comment on their experiences so long as its legal (of course thats y dias a moderator), and not just follow what 1 or 2 peeps have to say. Nobody is a kid on this forum n i believe everyone is reasonable enuf to filter what people say in content n context. someome got a trv b4 me with 2.5M in sponsors acc without paying a dime in sch fees for a masters prog on this forum....did he mislead people that 2.5M was enuf to apply?........NO. If you pay with form A like someone pointed out you have to show evidence for the payment like fee schedule(which my uni dosen't issue as a policy) or official print out of required fees at any point from student portal(only document i had). Someone in this forum said one could make the payment in another bank, an option I was abt to take same day my trv was issued. I wasn't aware of any other option at the time, nor was this forum. With a fee schedule for your entire program you can pay even more than CDHC ask you to pay using form A........again one love bro.........congrats to oreajayi n to all trv hopeful. they cant hold on to trvs for too long. 1 Like |

ritze:thanks.....so much. I didn't tell my story to advice anyone to cut corners (God knows I didn't like some people insinuate). I only told it to let u guys know that a VO can deny someone visa just becos his/her sister had an argument with an immigrant back home, or is having a bad day etc i.e. its a very subjective process that cant be appealed against......will say it again, DO THE RYT THING n leave the rest to GOD.......God bless. |

spencer3705:like i said.......... do what is ryt, if u r asked to pay full tuition....pay full. i didnt choose not to pay. I wasnt able to pay all cos my bank Zenith insisted i pay only wat i was asked to pay by uni even after i showed them CDHC letter cos of money laundering bla bla bla. of course i backed these with letters etc. some people pay everything and get denied meaning d final say lies with God, so we stop speculating what goes on btw bank and CDHC. many people stuff their accounts, like i did and if u need to use the money as a matter of urgency, what can u do other than withdraw......though I wouldn't support withdrawing.....but everyones case n situation is different. |
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 3 by slamdunk99(m): 8:38am On Oct 19, 2012 |
@all.......relax and be still and know that He is God.........the truth is, no one can say exactly what is required. the have their principles, so do the banks...but the final decision lies with God......Guys, pray that yur app falls into the ryt hands......but that dosent mean you wont do the right things........no one can say what exactly happens btw CDHC and Banks, we can only speculate. My sponsor had 4M in her account, about 2.9M was put into the account within 1 month of printing (big red flag abi) and 1.3M in mine, CDHC asked me to pay 1yr tuition of $12.5k, I only paid $6k(Red flag)the uni asked for.....CDHC called me and asked me to pay the rest(unusual abi).....I didnt pay the rest, but I'm in East Vancouver now taking lectures in UBC. So pls just do the ryt things and be very genuine, no fakes. Sometimes you dont blame them becos for Nigeria, the actions of majority are used to xterize a few.....yes, not the other way round.....Yesterday, I just saved a 43yr old very friendly, divorced canadian guy from a Nigeria scammer who he met on a dating site posing as a 24yr old girl. He has already given them $2350cad and was willing to give more....the guy told me the story happily thinking he was helping a young beautiful girl that will soon come to stay with him in canada. He didnt believe me until i got the mailers IP address and traced it to Lagos Nigeria. He has since given the email to the authorities........guess what they will think of Naija with this.......Go to you tube and type "Scammers" n see what you will get.........visa processing is shorter in other countries and easier but we made it hard for ourselves. Just trust in God. @ Jesus for all, I think you should dust yourself up and try again. defer your admission and reapply, dont ask for a refund from d sch. we dont know how much your uncle has, but all we can say is "fix it" and reapply. with cash in your sch account and other changes, you stand a good chance. GOD bless you all......we are waiting for you guys. 3 Likes |

earthgreeners:Amounting to the same cost is not completely true. Am in my 2nd month and I stay off campus in Vancouver. Those who live on campus pay btw 950-1100CAD per month in my sch UBC and thats apart from other personal 'ijekuje' wey dem dey chop and drink everyday. but from what I am seeing I can grind thru the month with 650-700 very comfortably. Its all about you and what you are willing to give up and enjoy. |

shavel: @sir p, abeg I need the cheapest flight to Winnipeg Manitoba for 25th of aug,,,,,,,,,,quick response please!stand to be corrected but unless u want to buy a business class for that date u cannot get a cheap economy ticket unless u want to spend in excess of 400k on klm n lufthansa to get to manitoba. But if u r willing to fly ethiopian airlines u may get a cheap one for 31st aug. or early sept. Actually I settled for dat in preference to an emirates on 9th sept. However try turkish n see, but i think economy for emirates, etihad, qatar, appear to be fully booked for august and early-mid sept. |

insight: Hello house,I submitted my application to VAC on June 18. For reasons beyond me, i couldn't submit earlier. My school program starts Sept. 4 (orientation:Aug 27) and i have paid the mandatory tuition deposit. I'm yet to hear anything and i keep tracking via VAC daily.I've been very hopeful to get medical call. I wouldn't know the time frame to do medicals and get TRV considering my school start date.I need a candid advice on what to do please.Ur app got to CDHC <3mths from ur start date, usually dey return d app, but sometimes they keep it if u have a January start date (despite being >6mths away). One cannot also rule out d horrible fact that dey may not have even touched ur app.........all u can do is prayerful waiting.......unless something else comes up..... |

ritze: @ allImmigration is not supposed to refuse renewal when d passport specs is clearly stated by d embassy. Got mine renewed some years back wen I was only even applying for a US B1 visa. Just print a copy of a page fron nigeria.gc.ca where passport requirements are stated n take it to d NIS office, dey would see reason to renew it. |
