Actually she has a point. It's not about defending her fellow woman; it's about a balance of reasoning. Could you tell us the words you said to her? They might be worse than "managing you".

We say very hurtful things in anger; don't act all innocent like you didn't mean the ones you said and she meant hers. No. Be a man and tell you dislike that particular expression, even if said in anger. She may not use it again, unless she's being playful.
