I thought this only applies if you have a return ticket

Zodiacwarrior:
Good day @Alchemist01

If you have been given your visa you are entitled to buy 4000usd from the bank at normal rate and they stamp it to your passport you can either choose to collect cash or have it deposited to your dorm account.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot ladies, so very helpful. Locks are a no no for me tho but the crotchet and jumbo braids is definitely on the list. Will add them to the shopping list

Virnee:
Knowing how expensive that would be, during the lockdown and while currently waiting for the travel restrictions to be eased, I went YouTube to learn how to DIY jumbo braids, etc.. [quote author=SlowlybtSurely post=101630447]If you have natural luscious hair, you might want to consider putting it in locks instead of cutting it. You can always cut it later if you change your mind.
[quote author=GraciousWords post=101633283]Another option apart from low cut, wigs and dreads is crochet.

If you can at least weave/cornrow your own hair all back into 8 or 10 lines, just get a crochet pin and take already braided crochet braids or spring twists along and you're good to go in under 1 hour. You can buy the crochet braids ready made packs or just get the extensions and have your regular salon make them into crochet for you.

Wow, lemme charter plenty wigs before I leave. Thanks for the heads up

SlowlybtSurely:
Join the club grin. It's not just the money, it's the associated inconvenience and stress. You can use wigs if you end up not feeling the short hair.

Ladies in the house please how easy and convenient is it to get a stylist in Canada that is good with natural hair? Especially in Newfoundland

I am considering cutting my hair before traveling as I wouldn’t want to be spending so much money on my hair as a student
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by sleekcheek: 9:19am On May 07, 2021
This does not apply to web payment made using your dollar card

JosephYemsol:
Ketima! Hi!

Quick one pls. Regarding funding your dorm account, how did you get the money into your account? Cos I heard that cbn policies says cash deposited on the counter to account CANNOT be transferred, rather it can only be withdrawn.

Did you get the aboki to transfer to your dorm Acc or how did you do it?.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by sleekcheek: 1:47pm On May 06, 2021
On it, thanks

ednut1:
get one here, you dont qualify for monthly repayment stuffs just like that.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by sleekcheek: 12:58am On May 06, 2021
Thanks for the clarification, this helps a lot

olasubomy:
It has advantages on both sides. For example, if you get a laptop from Nigeria, you get the advantage of getting one at a lower price, but you would have to pay some amount of dollars for its repair in Canada if it gets faulty. On the flip side, if you buy over here in Canada, though you pay more considering the exchange rate, you have protection/warranty for the product. Walmart stores sell their electronic items relatively cheaply compared to other stores, so I would say you try Walmart. You would find Walmart stores in any province in Canada.

Regarding paying for the product monthly, I am not so sure about that, except you already have a credit history here; that option might not be available for you for now since you would still be new in the country.

This is my own sincere view.

Please is it advisable to buy a cheap laptop in Nigeria with the option of upgrading to a better laptop when I get to Canada? I want to know if I can get a good laptop over there and pay monthly

Then I think your question is how to get a quote using flywire, I am sure someone here who used flywire can help with that

Benquip:
I have mailed the school and they kept on saying I should use flywire the name of the school is Durham College
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by sleekcheek: 3:47pm On Apr 21, 2021
Just find out from your school what’s their preferred method for funds transfer, Global pay is different from fly wire. I think you should mail your school at this point or mention your school here incase someone else has made payment to same school

Benquip:
Please I just sent you a mail on the global pay because I would like to know how to get it also is it through flywire that you'd got the quote?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by sleekcheek: 2:50pm On Apr 21, 2021

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by sleekcheek: 2:31pm On Apr 21, 2021

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by sleekcheek: 8:22am On Apr 17, 2021
Hello house, if you are planning on using form A to pay your fees and you have an account with Stanbic bank or know someone who does pls use them. My form A was processed in 4 days and my friend got PTA up to 4K dollars from them as well. Avoid First Bank, I repeat avoid First Bank!

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by sleekcheek: 4:19pm On Apr 12, 2021
yesssssssssss, congrats to you. it has ended in praises

oyibo4real:
Guys rejoice with me. GOD has done it and I give HIM ALL THE GLORY!!!

My PPR is here finally and I wish the same to all the hopefuls in JESUS NAME, AMEN!!!
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by sleekcheek: 5:53pm On Apr 07, 2021
I can’t wait to rejoice with you, what province are u going to?

oyibo4real:
Who says we're asking them to help us get PPR? Na wa oo!!! I wouldn't want to drag you for this misinterpretation, just because you're my friend cool. I always try to verify some information before acting on them, so YES, it is within their SERVICE DESCRIPTIONS to assist us(admitted students) with such enquiry(Try google).

We have been so oppressed here that even when we're presented with the opportunity to exercise our rights, we still jump and pass, God go help us. You better drop this mentality as you're going abroad, if not you'll miss several opportunities without knowing it, Yes! I am talking from experience this time!( I hope you come back to thank me for this advice especially as it relates to living abroad)
Nobody will crucify you for making enquiries, but most times you get penalised/punished for being ignorant. If you're not well informed, you'll be deformed; so till Thy Kingdom come, Information is still power!

Am sorry, I still have to talk about Indians again cos their energy is too much, these people write to Canadian PRIME MINISTER concerning their delayed applications and still get cool reply from him(Try this at your own risk, my hand no dey).
This is not me trying to encourage sending unnecessary emails to these MPs especially when your application is still within normal processing time(am guilty here), rather am here to discourage us from carrying this our fear fear mentality abroad, try it and be counting losses.

I know we have our problems as individuals and as a country, trust me, we are still good people unfortunate with e.... govt, hence the reason most of us are in this thread today.

IRCC, what are you still waiting for? Abeg release my LOVE LETTER, make all this plenty talk stop biko.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by sleekcheek: 5:16pm On Apr 06, 2021
Nice one, I like proactive people. It will end in praise

oyibo4real:
Ah! Me that have received response from my own requesting for further information about my application. I used Google immediately I saw your first message,

CONGRATULATIONS sleekcheek and thank you so much for this, more blessings. Please let's all try and use google sometimes for some information to avoid 'enlongating'(whatever that means undecided)the thread unnecessarily.

May it end in praise for us all in Jesus name, Amen!!!
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by sleekcheek: 2:51pm On Apr 06, 2021
Please for those interested in sending a mail as per my previous post kindly see the below information (I have received lots of mails so far and may not be able to reply to all)

Just search for constituency members of parliament in Canada, there are lots of them and their email addresses are available online. For me, I sent to the ones serving in my school district.

For the body of the message, it is simply a soft plea for them to assist in inquiring into your application's status and if possible expedite the final decision.

Hope this helps.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by sleekcheek: 1:35pm On Apr 06, 2021
They are available online, run a search on google

Ribasandez:

My program has already started, we are in the 12th week..
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by sleekcheek: 10:39am On Apr 06, 2021
I took a piece of advice from here and sent a mail to a constituency member of the town where my school is located. I received a response from his office asking for details of my application and they assisted in making enquires to IRCC on my behalf. I got my PPR in less than 2 weeks after that. I don't know if it's a coincidence but I thought I should mention it.

Benquip:
My Application is now 4months and a week, still no response from IRCC
