First post in over 3 years. Wow! shocked.
Thanks for the encouragement
You're welcome. I moved to Canada with my family less than 2 yrs ago and we are integrating fine. I have come to realize the importance of information in Canada. You're as good as what you know. Apart from the site, I strongly advise anyone immigrating to Canada to register for a pre-arrival program. You can find out more on that site.

The Canadian government is doing so much to make it easy for new immigrants to settle in fast. You'll be amazed at the resources available so it's sad to hear that people are not finding it so easy especially when I know how industrious we Nigerians are.

One more thing, I have also been asked to find out if anyone would like to be a moderator in their forum. If you are interested, please inbox me. The owners are my friends so I'm going to be answering questions on their forum as well.

There's a lot of preparation that goes into immigration. Unfortunately, so many times, you may be asking people that do not know any better. So many people went to Canada and suffered before they were able to settle down. Asking those people may not help you because they can only tell you what they know. Having access to reliable information is very important if you want to succeed in Canada. Canada is truly a land of opportunities and with God, nothing is impossible.

I am in Canada and I strongly recommend this site for new and intending immigrants www.immigrantcircle.com

They cover every aspect from immigration to pre-arrival and so many other things. Wish you all success

I wouldn't recommend St Nicholas for anything. They are living on past glory. For Ob/Gyn, I would recommend Reddington on the Island or Parklande Surulere on the mainland. Dr Orebanjo is still the best Ob/Gyn this country has to offer.
HealthRe: Best Dental Clinic In Lagos, Nigeria? by SLEEKCHIC2(f): 1:56pm On Jan 06, 2015
KOTS Dental clinic at Ogunlana surulere.

Not sure of the address but it's opposite that Akerele road/Ogunlana junction (below Phoenix eye clinic). Check Vconnect on google. I also referred my sister there when she was pregnant and she says they are the best dental clinic she's ever been to. I have to agree with her. Thumbs up to them for a job well done.

Ande Christie and Richmond at Raymond Njoku street Ikoyi are also very good. I prefer them to Aqua gem off ligali Ayorinde, VI. I had a good childhood so I seem to know all the dentists in town and i'll definitely eat meat at 80 wink
BusinessRe: Was Jumia Black Friday Sales A Scam ? by SLEEKCHIC2(f): 2:48pm On Nov 30, 2014
Jumia black friday was a complete scam. I spent the whole day trying to add items to my cart. No matter how many times I added to cart, it would always show that there was no item in the cart.

The worst part is that I was foolish enough to buy the black friday voucher(N2500) which was supposed to double the value on black friday. I called the two numbers on their website several times and they were not reachable. The response was that one of the numbers does not exist. When I was finally able to add to cart by 9:00pm, I tried applying the voucher but the system rejected the voucher code saying it was invalid. I finally placed my order without using my voucher. I then sent several emails to them #service@, support+id1510249@jumia.zendesk.com stating the issue and requesting for a refund but I'm yet to receive any feedback. Then I received a call from Jumia today, but it has nothing to do with all my complaints. Instead it's about the order I placed. I've asked them to cancel. I just want to put an end to this jumia blackfriday nightmare. Please what is the number for consumer protection in Naija? I just want a refund of my money.

@ Aghanti
Yes, oracle can be used to write application softwares with full GUI. Application Developers handle that aspect. They use the oracle developer suite which comprises of oracle forms builder, reports builder, discoverer amongst others. Oracle 11i and release 12 are oracle applications (ERP) with full GUI developed using oracle(ad by oracle). I have also seen application softwares created by Nigerian developers using oracle and the GUI is great.

@ monex,

Oracle does not support only red hat. It can be installed on some others like suse, etc. Not all red hat versions are supported though.
ComputersRe: Oracle DBA Corner by SLEEKCHIC2(f): 11:36pm On Sep 03, 2007
Hi Monex,

Redhat 9 is actually not supported by oracle 10g, but you could edit your /etc/redhat-release file to be able to install. This link should help you.

http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle10g.shtml

Don't forget to install the RPM's and dependencies.

@ sleektoe, sorry for the late reply. What version of Oracle are you installing on Red Hat. If its 10g, then u could use the link above to ensure u took the right steps. If its Oracle 9i, then you could use the link posted by Banderas. Be careful, especially when editing ur .bash_profile file . I would also need the exact error message and number to help you cos there are so many errors that could arise.

Never forget to use the net as much as you can. Its been very helpful to me.

Concerning the Solaris, Babasin actually dropped some CD's with Larryoncol. You could get a copy from him. Might be easier if you are in ABJ cos i dont know if any lagosian has been able to get any.

@Cabali, howz life. Hope u are cool. Been a while. Were u able to get the cd's from Larryoncol?

@ Babasin, howz everything. Howz ur job

@everyone, hope u are all having fun. Take care

Hi all,

Can i report my stock broking fime to SEC? I dropped my letter for transfer of shares with them and the receptionist told me to come back after 2months to get the letter signed. I only need two signatures and she says she's not even sure i'll get it in 2 months. Meanwhile, the second firm (Marriot Securities ) were so efficient and polite and gave it to me in 5 mins.

The worst part is that the UBA share's certificate i gave them to verify since August last yr has not been verified. I only found out last week because they never give CSCS monthly statements and when you request for it, you have to pay N50 per month while others give it free. At least Marriot gave it to me free. Its bad enough that i had to pay to verify the certificate. I think they are trying to frustrate me from leaving them but my mind is made up.

Please what can i do. I can wait for 2 months to get it signed. Please i need your advice

Hello Zai,

Hope the work's coming on fine. I know you can grant a privilege or role. Personally, i don't think you can grant "all" to a user cause all is not a privilege, neither is it a role. If you want to give the person all the system and object priviledges, you can either grant DBA to the user , or create a role and grant all the priviledges (u want the person to have )to that role, then grant the role to the user.

Hope this helps you.

All the best

@ cheexy

I thought my stock broker was the only annoying one. I gave him 150K to buy fidelity or sterling bank for me (its been 3wks now) and its one story after another. When i asked him why he couldn't buy when its obvious the stock is not on bid, he said i could take my money and try another stock broker. So i'm sticking to his advice.

Unfortunately for him, the people i introduced to him are leaving with me. How good i cash craft cos i think i want to try them. How is their analysis/research/ advisory?

To get the detailed transactions, go to www.zenithbank.com
click on 'quick links'
scroll to 'stock market update'
when it opens, click on 'price list'

That contains the detailed info on the activities of the stock mmarket for a particular day. It is usually updated by 3pm daily

Nice job. Your posts' have an undertone i appreciate. Its the tone of one that knows, but isn't proud. Keep up the good work. Once your stock broking firm is up, let me know. I'll get as many people as i can to register with you. I'll also register

Very catchy topic too. Keep up the good work.

@ allcorrect:

For my stock broker, there is no fixed rate for verification. He says it depend on the volume. So the price varies. I don't know if its same for all stock brokers, but the lowest i've paid is N300 and the highest is N1000.

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by SLEEKCHIC2(f): 3:00pm On May 04, 2007
@ cheexy,

windywendy's right.

Bid price is the price the broker will buy your shares from you if you want to sell to them, while the offer price is the price they'll sell to you if you wanted to buy from them. The difference is called a "spread"
.

It does not apply to naija stocksand i don't know of foreign stocks, but I know it applies to forex and to mutual funds. From my knowledge of forex, if you buy a currency at 120.05, you enter the market at 120.01, and vice versa if you are short selling. The difference is the "spread" which is gained by the broker.

In funds, if you (as an investor) buy units within a unit trust you will always pay the 'offer' price( also called the 'ask' price. If you sells such units they will be sold at the 'bid' price. So you actually buy at a higher price than what the seller is actually selling. The difference goes to the broker.

K2's also right. Just like the Bureau de Change or black market.

@ larryoncol,
are you working in a production environment
Where i work, there's a thin line between production and development. We believe the two go hand in hand and that production cannot exist without development.hope that answers it.dont know what else to say :-)

@gbolia4 the first question you must ask yourself is why you want to study oracle. Your reason would decide if you can face the challenges ahead. Its not easy being a dba in nigeria because employers expect you to be born with experience. If you plan to work abroad, then it may not be so bad. The truth is that no one can make the decision for you.pray and follow your heart. I wish you the very best in your endeavours

@ jidebiz. Thanks for the comment. I think oracle is simply what you make out of it.its fun if you want it to be and boring if you want it to be. Its a continuous learning process. I look at my bosses in d office and i wonder if i'll ever be like them. Its fun. Especially when you work with people who are good at it ( like my bosses and collegues). Just make up your mind to enjoy everystep of the way. All d best too.

@ babasin welcome to Naija. Hope u had a nice flight.

@ all hello, happy workers day
BusinessRe: Robert Kiyosaki: His 'Rich Dad' Does 'Not Exist'? by SLEEKCHIC2(f): 2:44pm On Apr 27, 2007
@ everyone ,      i think john reed's accusations are more personal than analytical. He's simply using his personal grudge to sell his book. If he were criticising the contents of RDPD, then it would have made more sense, but rather, he's  criticising the author and the originality of the story.  That to me is shallow and does not hold much water.

@ dolly, i'm glad you have a wonderful mum who knows a lot about financial freedom. You have to understand that there are several people around the world who may not have mums' as knowledgable as yours. For such peoples' sakes , i 'm glad there's Robert Kiyosaki. Fiction or not, the book is good.

You made  some  points i'ld like all to note
infact my mother has been teaching me the same thins since I was young but of course it took buying of the book for me to realise (just typical).
I'm glad it took his  book to make you realise that your mum was making sense. For that reason alone, i'll say the book made an impact in your life.

Bottom line of his teaching property makes you money, business makes you money duh! enough people know that but most are like me they take their parent's lesson for granted and pay $$$$ to learn a basic princiople.
People may know what makes money, but they dont know how to make money. Its not only about the bottom line, but  how to get the bottomline. People want to make money, but they don't know how. That's what the book teaches. "THE HOW"

My beef with Kiyosaki and his products is the fact that most folks will get hung up on reading books, attending seminars and playing the games that they will not go out and do something.
I am very pragmatic and don't like endless seminar, my quest is show me and let me go and do it.
The fact that people read his books and don't appy it is no fault of his, is it? So what's the real beef? Some actually attend those endless seminars and  do it.  Lets look at the positive side of it.

I have friends who have paid thousands in how to invest in property and how to buy shares when all they need is to read thread like this, ask a few questions surf the net and pronto.
I have learnt that some people do not appreciate what is given to them free and would rather pay to hear the same things they've heard all their life. For such people there Robert Kiyosaki and his books. Some of us read the book long before we knew how to surf the net so we learnt one or two things early in life. Some of us,  like you, no matter how our parents teach us, or how many things we read on the thread, we won't learn till we spend our $$$$ on the endless seminars and books(that end  up on our shelves gathering dust).

For me, its not whether Robert Kiyosaki is a fraud or not.  Rather, the question is has he made any positive impact on any life? He has impacted mine, and for that i'm grateful. Whether its by reminding me of what my parents have been drumming into my ears or by teaching me what i never knew. He made a big impact. I made my first investment while reading his book and i have not turned back since then. I've thought people what i learnt and its helping them.

He may be the devil, but lets try to see the positive part. He helped me and for that i'm grateful. Nothing personal Dolly wink

ProgrammingRe: What Kind Of DBA (Database Administrator) Are You? by SLEEKCHIC2(f): 12:20pm On Apr 24, 2007
I'll call myself a nuts and bolt dba.

I love the cli but the gui can be fun grin grin grin . Its the easy way out and sometimes i can't help but take it wink. Cli's can be boring but they make me feel in control. I enjoy using them to remember my command syntax. What i can easily do with oem, i'll keep trying in the black box till i get it huh . It remains in my memory longer that way. But when it comes to listener config and tns naming, i go for the GUI( net config assistant). Its more exciting.

Talking of GUI's, i started using toad recently and boy, i don't think i want to see the black box in a while.

My mood determines what i use and i'll go for anyone that excites me at that time but i feel the cli is more flexible. Maybe its cos i learnt with it.
