Nice one Barcanista, however there are a few errors in ur summing up figures. Fees for SS3 totals N45,500 as opposed to ur N55,000 and for JS3 its N25,500 as opposed to N25,000. The document u attached has the correct figures. Would be nice if u modified ur original front page post. Thanks and keep being you!
Also Barcanista, item 1 is N15,500.
EducationRe: Fraud Alert! Federal Government Academy, Suleja: Scholarship Or Burden? (PIX) by sleekymag(m): 5:26pm On Aug 07, 2015
barcanista:
I am writing this piece on behalf of a concerned mother (name withheld) that has her child studying in Federal Government Academy, Suleja (Niger state). I felt sympathy for her cause when she went out of her way to trail me through NL to my twitter page just to share her burden with me(and to Nigerians).

The FGA
For those that may not be aware, FGA was established in 1986 by the Babangida military administration to provide 100% scholarship to brilliant Nigeria Children of secondary school age. The Objective is to ‘’provide opportunities for exceptionally Gifted children to develop at their own pace in the interest of the nation's economic and technological development.’’
It is also known as Center For The Gifted and Talented. Intakes are selected strictly on merit after undergoing rigorous process. It provides opportunity for all Nigeria children irrespective of gender, tribe and economic status. The Academy is meant to be a 100% scholarship for all intakes because the FG takes care of Tuition, feeding, books, accommodations, uniform etc. All what parents of the intakes pay for is a one off developmental fee of random amount, which will be for the whole of the student(s) stay in the school.

The Cry/Complaint of The Parents:
Of recent, things has changed under the leadership of a new management led by led by Mrs O.O Awofisayo as Principal.

1. The Parents of returning students are now asked to pay TERMLY fees of:

Maintenance/Utilities- N10,000
Medical levy - N2,000
CISCO Training- N2,000
Magazine- N1,500

Total: N15,000 per term.

In addition to the above;
I) SS3 students are to pay Fifteen Thousand each for WAEC and NECO examinations (ie N30,000 for both exams). This means parents with children in SS3 class will pay N55,000 (N15,000 + N30,000) for the new term of 2015/16 academic session.

II) JS3 students are to pay Ten thousand Naira (N10,000) for BECE registration (aka "Junior WAEC"wink. This brings a total of N25,000 for the First term of 2015/16 Academic session.

2. Parents of new intakes are to pay a whopping N65,000 for the term(according to the information provided).

3. Parents are also asked to pay a mandatory PTA levy of N6,000 per term from the former N2,000/term that they were paying.

4. Parents paid N1,000 for "Computerisation of Result" but the result sheet given to students at the end of last term was Handwritten.

5. Combining 3 and 4 means an additional N7,000 payment for all students. The principal claimed that the levies in Item 1 were approved by the Education ministry but that is unacceptable irrespective of the truth or otherwise of the claim.

The parent(s) is/are crying that such fees are exorbitant and some of them cannot afford it. The Academy is supposed to be 100% free according to the admission letter (see below) and the purpose of the Academy.

The government is to take care of our best brains and rising stars. If our government can spend billions of Naira to sponsor religious people to unproductive pilgrimage in Jerusalem and Mecca, why then should they shy on seeing that nothing hinders the education/trainings of our best brains in the FGA, Minna? Should some of these students whose parents can't afford these huge levies forfeit their education?

May God Bless Every Nigerian Child
Nice one Barcanista, however there are a few errors in ur summing up figures. Fees for SS3 totals N45,500 as opposed to ur N55,000 and for JS3 its N25,500 as opposed to N25,000. That's really great, her parents must be proud.
I'm about to start to working on my PPL (private pilot license), as well. I have no intention to go beyond that to get a commercial pilot license though.

A few observations with this. First off, she is not yet a pilot, as you have to be 17 here before you can get a PPL (she said it too), so this thread title is inaccurate. In other words, if she loses interest in flying between now and her 17th birthday, then she'll not get a license - which is when you become a pilot.

Getting a PPL does not mean she'll be able, or allowed to fly a private jet or commercial craft, either. A PPL only trains and licenses you to fly single engine light crafts, like the one seen in the video.

Second, the CNN anchor kept saying she flew "solo," which is incorrect. To fly solo means you fly alone in the aircraft.
However, you must be at least 16 to fly solo . The legendary Tuskegee airmen were with her on the flight.

That said, none of the facts I've pointed out takes anything away from the awesomeness of her feat so far. I guess the main big deal with this is that she's a 15 yr old black girl, and the distance of 7k miles she covered.

Awesome little girl.
This is a very old story. Kimberly achieved the feat as far back as 2009. Articles concerning this feat has been online since then. Kimberly on er own, would be not less than 21 years old now. Below are links that support my point.

Well just less than two months ago, we all saw in the media as Emeka Offor gave $10 million to an American foundation. His company, Global Scansystems Limited which they say is owing N181 million (actually less than $1 million), is actually one whose licenses to operate as a DESTINATION INSPECTION COMPANY had expired and as a result, i do not think they ave been operational. To assume the man is broke however, would amount to being ignorant. The man has many other companies under his Chrome Group that are operating fine. I guess the bank should have sought other means to recover their money.

Btw, a war between israel and iran will be a decisive victory for israel. The staggering capacity of the home grown israeli military industrial complex outstrips the entire middle-east including iran.
The problem isn't with Iran alone, it's about the unification of the countries against Israel. Six world powers backed this deal namely US, UK, France, Germany, Russia and China. Some end time prophets have said the battle of Armageddon would be all nations rising against Israel. They feel the UN could be the arrowhead here and Israel would be almost decimated until God helps them out. Looks like the world is fast coming to an end and the Obamas of this world are only helping to facilitate this.

TV/MoviesRe: Ay's 30 DAYS IN ATLANTA Is Overhyped (opinion) by sleekymag(m): 7:37pm On Jun 26, 2015
Teeboy15:
Hi ya'll, I'm a first time OP (whatever OP means) so please apologies on any typo error or whatever.

Though this post is coming when the movie is already old but i just felt the need to create the thread afterall.

Ok enuff talk lemme get straight to it. I think the movie 30 days in Atlanta was unnecessarily hyped for the following reasons;

1. Ay was not fit for the role; Ay does not have that rugged n razz personality to play the role of Akpors. He seemed too serious for the role, more like forcing himself to be an Akpors personality. A Bovi or Charles Inojie interpretation of the role would have made more sense.

2. Story line was poor; Like seriously what was he trying to portray, that Akpors is just a local Warri boy who got lucky, went abroad and couldn't behave himself in a cultured way? Seriously?

3.His comedy line in the movie when he got employed as a part-time comedian was terrible; Ay like seriously u could have done berra than that. Dat was whack. If na so ur shows dey be u for no get one kobo for account.

Let me state that I'm not in any way hating on the successfull comedian's effort (before Nairalanders go start their own wahala), for what its worth it was a good movie but constructive criticism also sell movies.

For those who haven't seen the movie make sure u get a copy of it and let us know what u think. U can also add ur opinion for those that have already seen the movie.

CC: lalasticlala, tosyne2much and co abeg help me park dis keke for garage
I saw the movie and was like, how did this movie get to be so hyped? Op you're very on point. The movie was nothing much to brag about. It didn't even have a real and engaging storyline and the comedy in it (if at all there was) was hyper dry.

I don't think it has nothing to do with the devil. It's called logical thinking. There's nothing wrong in paying tithes as long as you believe in it. It's just when the so called God's spokesmen on Earth takes advantage of the followers, that's the problem. I do go to a Pentecostal Church here and I do my part financially. When Pastors starts enriching themselves on the backs of the flocks, that's an unforgivable sin.
My point is in order not to be taken advantage of, a good number of people shut it off completely, even if it means to stop going to church. And therein lies the trick of the devil to rob many more people of their relationship with God, because whether you like it or not, the fervency will drop. BTW, it is not in your place to determine an unforgivable sin. For you not to be taken advantage of, try to know the word yourself, and do as the spirit leads you.

You are absolutely right on point. I think of myself as a Christian but no one fools me. I have a sister here in Chitown who is a Pastor and a Medical Doctor and you can't believe the disagreement between us over the tithes payment. You can believe in God but you don't have to be stupid and fall for all this hustlers scamming the gullible ones using the name of God to enrich themselves.
I've realized the devil has used this issue of to tithe or not to tithe to keep people from going to church. So many innocent people have condemned it and thus ended up confusing people the more thereby making the love of many for the things of God to wax cold. It's a tactic from the devil and many are being left worse than they were.

RomanceRe: Guys Or Babes, Who Lose Their Virginity The Earliest? by sleekymag(m): 3:37pm On Jun 07, 2015
Most guys that have sex for the first time do it with girls they are older than or at best age mates with them (with the exception of a few who do it with older girls/ladies/prostitutes). Also for the ladies, most guys they have sex with for the first time are older than them or at best age mates with them.

From these, it's easy to conclude girls/ladies or babes lose their virginity (have real sex) earlier in life than guys/boys.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,

You came, you saw, you conquered.
You could not do it all, but you tried your best.
You were a bit naive, you were afraid of stepping on toes.
You were a bit easyhanded, but you meant well.
You had tough oppositions, the power brokers turned their backs on you
But God wrapped his arms around you.
You made some good achievements, had lots of things going for you and the country
Sports, numerous champions emerged during your reign
Economy, the nation became the biggest in Africa and 26th in the world
Politics, the electoral umpire became truly independent under your watch
Agriculture, you made giant strides in there
Energy, you succeeded in allowing the audit of NNPC for the first time in the nation's history
Power, each time you tried to make progress, something drawed you backwards
Truth is more work needs to be done in every sector of the country
Things ought to get much better
You lost elections, but you took it in good faith
You saved millions of lives that would otherwise have gone by conceding defeat.
You are a good man indeed.
I pray that God would forgive your shortcomings in anyway.
And make you a global positive reference point indeed.
Adieu, President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, my President.

If you've been watching his tv station Silverbird, you would have seen the electric car he is talking about. And yes, it is from KIA motors. He is probably trying to help KIA introduce it into the Nigerian market. He is also advocating for it to be powered by solar, which is what i think he uses, as the programme showed. Nigerians like displaying their ignorance, just because they don't understand what he's on about. He also challenged Nigerian inventors and engineers to come up with a kind of battery that can last many hours, such that the car can run a lot of miles before needing to be recharged.

I've read your comment. Let me present this scenerio:

If your company is in Joint Venture partnership of (60-40)% equity ratio with the other company, what will you do as regards Board Resolutions? How will your company respect their interest as regards M.O.U?
There'll be no 60-40 equity ratio. Rather, if we reduce our stakes to 40% as opposed to the 30% being proposed, we'll have a maximum scenario of 40-40-20 JV equity ratio or 41-40-19, where 40 or 41 still represents the FG, and 20 or 19 represents local investors (local and competent e&p coys, plus state govt of the region in question). The FG still dictates the tune, petroleum taxes would be raised and the extra 8.94trillion naira would be available for developmental projects.
PoliticsRe: Godwin Emefiele Tells Buhari To Sell Off Nigeria's Oil Stakes by sleekymag(m): 1:26pm On Apr 24, 2015
stronger:
Good point! I agree with you. I understand the reluctance of most Nigerians to want to just "sell off" everything but they must know we will start moving away from oil dependence in a matter of decades. The earlier we started investing in other sectors massively, the better. We need cash to do this and it shouldn't be by increasing our debt profile.

But your suggestion makes sense.
Thanks man. At least, like u said, we don't have to increase our debt profile to get these developmental projects going. Let's assume it's just about fixing our refineries such that we become a net exporter of refined oil products. That alone is something. Our 40% stake would still be there, plus increased revenue from increased taxes to the JV companies. Employment opportunities would also abound.
PoliticsRe: Godwin Emefiele Tells Buhari To Sell Off Nigeria's Oil Stakes by sleekymag(m): 1:08pm On Apr 24, 2015
stronger:
(1) when I say oil will soon finish, I don't mean tomorrow na. Check our reserves and compare to others. 30 years max, unless we start taking renewable seriously! Take that to the bank.

(2) The issue of selling is simple. If we assume that this govt is going to be responsible with the funds then selling some stake off is a wise choice. Why? Simple economic principle: The value of money of the day (MOTD). With the money we can invest in infrastructure that will drive major growth in non-oil sectors! Otherwise, we just keep borrowing and increase our debt profile.

(3) The CBN governor is not selling off everything. Just a part of it. The oil companies will still be paying huge taxes shey you know. And we will even increase the taxes.

(4) if you are worried about enriching the oil companies, forget it. Most of them are divesting anyway and it's mostly LOCAL companies that by these divested assets SO if the NNPC sells off, it'll still get to Local firms, thus providing jobs for Nigerians last last.
Well I would say instead of selling of 25% of its stake and keep just 30%, why not sell off 15% and retain 40%? This way the FG would raise $45 billion which equates to N8.94 trillion or 60% of the said N14.9 trillion. This way, and with prudent application of the resources, infrastructural development projects can still be carried out, the new stake owners, should have local stakes (also with state govts of the regions), and petroleum tax can still be raised like Emefiele suggested. It's a win-win situation both for the short term and long term IMHO.
