Arsene didn't make a call on Gallas - he refused to give him 2 years, and that is a completely different proposition to letting Silvestre go because you know he's useless.
Gallas was injured in every single season for us, so again, injury had nothing to do with the situation. This was PURELY a stubborn use of the over 30 rule, even when time and time again it's been shown to be flawed in it's application.

I would av also strongly advocated pressing the ball, but with our injury record it sseems like asking for trouble. On the other hand, it seems we lack defensive discipline. That is not to say it can't be done though. Our last victories against any of the big four both liverpool
n man u came from not being to adventurous(altho not arsenal style) with the ball and being very aware witout itm so much so we played liveerpool an entire 45min witout giving them any shot on goal.
In order not to sacrifice our attackin play the key will be how quick we can switch from attack to an effective defensive formation.

Debo I disagree with your disagree , Werent Gallas and Verm doing exactly the same thing you described there. Didnt we ships oodles of goals last year? Verm attacks the ball, Gallas mops up. The problem is one when the backline pushes so far up and it is put behind you the division of labor is out the window.

Same thing on the wings, the moment the ball gets behind Clichy or Sagna we have a situation where both our opponents and our defenders are  FACING OUR POST!!! No prizes for guessing who has the advantage.

Which brings me to my third point. If we insist on playing the high defensive line, our attackers and midfielders will require serious defensive discipline when we are off the ball. Our off the ball movement in attack is excellent. Our off the ball movement in defense is crap!!! Whether its positional awareness or just going clockwork bunny like the Cuntalans. It is very important we reduce the opponent's options when they manage to see the ball.

Its is not the defenders, it is the entire team's defensive strategy!!!

I think it was proudly9ja that said it, I've come to realise its not really the personnel, its our team defending that is the problem. Jus saw the goals and the first sight I saw was a guy going through 3 of our players very close to the touchline!!! Three!!!! Remember Nani at the Emirates?!!

The defenders are not the problem, the problem is our defensive style. Do we press the ball, do we defend deep, we have not even perfected the defensive highline we have adopted. We are totally sacrificing defense for an all out attack play. Hence our players are becoming less and less defense minded.
