In order to weaken the agitation (from people like ex-Governor Ibori who was leading the agitation) for what became eventually known as 13% derivation, Obasanjo decided to expand meaning of Niger Delta to cover all areas in Nigeria that produce oil. At the time the areas that produce oil where the Niger Delta and areas contiguous to it. So what NDDC really is, is a development commission for oil producing areas in the Niger Delta and its environs.

A river delta (shortened to delta) is clearly defined as

"... a landform that forms from deposition of sediment carried by a river as the flow leaves its mouth and enters slower-moving or stagnant water. This occurs where a river enters an ocean, sea..."

So to re-iterate, geographically the Niger Delta differs from what is administratively referred to as Niger Delta today in Nigeria. The environmental problems suffered by the geographical Niger-Deltans are always unique to Deltas.
Other Deltas in Africa include the Nile Delta in Egypt, the Okavango Delta in Botswana and the Inner Niger Delta(an unusual inland delta on the same River Niger) in Mali.

PS: Talking about taking people seriously, wasn't it the south east that was foaming in the mouth when another south-eastern indigene was picked as a vice-presidential candidate for one of the political parties? Does that smack of a serious region angry that one of its own was picked to represent them?

But pls stop with d unnecessary segregation definition of ND this & that;it won't help the region @ all..My maternal home is one of ur "unoriginal" ND states & progress is all we need..Shikena.

And its not about being confused my dear. There's a difference between oil producing and Niger Delta. Lagos State produces one teaspoon of oil that doesn't make them ND. Kogi has been speculated to have oil does that automatically make them ND?

The Niger Delta is a clearly defined area. It covers parts of Delta State, all of Bayelsa and most of Rivers.

Interesting..So original ND=Rivers;Bayelsa & Delta.NDDC surely needs to get this ur definition of ND & do d needful.;because una" oyel money" needs to be used to develop d real ND states....This is why SS as a region is never taken seriously..Issorait

I attended the church of Jehovah's Witnesses and i noticed they don't compel people to pay Tithes and Offerings like most Pentecostal churches.

All they have is a box where any willing attendee is free to drop whatever he or she desires. No POS, no long sermon, no threat on giving like most Pentecostal churches. Jesus Christ never forced people to give and Christians are meant to emulate Christ.

I don’t like their doctrines but on this i am impressed.

Hmmm..Most Pentecostal Churches offering is optional;at least the offering basket passes round if u have u give;if u don't ;u pass it on.nobody really notices.
The real issue is even with our Orthodox Anglican/Catholic/Methodist/Presbyterian etc churches where one has to get up from their seat in orderly fashion to dance out to the front to give offering.Thereby making it compulsory to stand up & give offering;whether u av or not;
I personally was very irritated when I attended one Anglican church very recently ;during the offering we came out only to meet three different offering bags to drop money for different things welfare;building;project;evangelism;Special & General Thanksgiving etc..And people were suppose to come out twice that sunday;making church collection /offerings 6 times per Sunday.Anglican/Orthodox church ooo.
Seriously the church has lost it.May God save us all..

How are tourists always able to enjoy destinations better than locals? I swear to God I live in Port Harcourt and have no idea where this is. It was the same when I lived in ABJ, I visited places people who stayed there for 12 and more years did not know.

Lol..na so e dey always be.I was born & bred in PH but I av no frigging idea where this is( ummm probably borokiri/town axis).. Even some places where some of my friends & tourists mention that I av never ever been to in PH.
