Foreign Affairs / Re: China Warns Britain That Beijing Will 'Strike Back If UK Steps Out Of Line' by smartval(m): 3:40pm On Jun 17, 2020 |
Openbusiness:
Oga it is bad news for China. Hong Kong citizens don't see themselves as part of China, and they don't want anything to do with China, if not that British handed over to China with autonomy agreement, Hong Kong people won't have let the British hand over the territory. They prefer to live under Capitalist West than a Socialist China. That's the fact. Ask any Hong Kong resident, they hate Mainland China with passion. Hong Kong is the best part of China, with no massive air polution that people can't even breathe clean air like Mainland China. If the Chinese govt continue their crackdown and UK offers Hong Kong residents visas, then it means that Hong Kong will go back to being a British Territory because they will ask them to do referendum with the UN, and once their votes wins to be part of UK, then game over for China, and good news for America. It means the USA will now have a military base with the biggest missiles and warheads right inside China's doorstep, and if them do anyhow, and it escalates to war, it will be easy for the West to take them out. Right now all the Western countries are already aligning together to punish China for the COVID-19, the USA has formally identified China as an enemy, and it will be the perfect chance to destroy China's influence, economy and military power. China is about to fall if they are not careful, and the Russia they are relying on won't be able to help them, because without America in the picture, China is Russia's biggest threat. Their only alliance today is because of America. I like your analysis, you have a strong point |

Politics / Re: Covid 419 Drama And Continous Corruption In Nddc by smartval(m): 9:30pm On Jun 14, 2020 |
newspaperman: Gentlemen of the Press.
Let me attempt to paraphrase a salient quote from Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th POTUS.
Patriotism means to stand by your country, not to stand with any public official, save to the degree in which the official stands by the country. For us as civil society organizations, it is unpatriotic not to oppose public officials when they fail in their duties to the country. It is unpatriotic not to tell the truth, especially as it touches corruption, mis-governance and open rape of people’s trust.
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has been in focus since April, obviously for the wrong reasons. The audacity for looting and dark tendencies has surged uncontrollably in recent days. This worrisome development calls for serious interrogation, investigation and immediate action. The late Executive Director of Finance & Administration died in the early hours of Thursday, May 28th, 2020. Very early in the day, our organization, Act for Positive Transformation Initiative, had intercepted a sinister ploy to weave the unfortunate death around COVID-19. Some newspapers subtly reported this online. By 1pm, we were on a national television where we further warned actors to desist from such satanic plot. We also revealed, that the plan involved shutting down NDDC offices, forcing staff to go on isolation and eventually returned with COVID-19 positive status claims in the public. Gentlemen, all these have played out. We must act to prevent life as the end of the ploy may lead to more casualties.
To this end, we are calling for immediate investigations of the COVID-19 claims of NDDC officials. We call on National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), the Ministry of Health, the Presidential task Force on COVID-19 and all relevant agencies to immediately investigate NDDC claims and NCDC officials in Rivers State. We also appeal to, Mr Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation who doubles as the head of PTF on COVID-19 to compel NDDC to make available, names of officials they claim are positive. We kept tabs on the movement of some officials, we can indeed provide information on where some of them visited to help in contact tracing, besides their immediate communities and families will certainly be of help during investigation.
We submit that this whole ploy is meant to jeopardize the ongoing probe of the commission. Our curiosity is further heightened by the slow pace of work by the National Assembly. There must not be any political settlement on the wicked rape of the people’s resources. Till date, we are yet to receive any invite from the National Assembly despite our extensive work in exposing the ongoing corruption in the commission. We want to duly and responsibly inform the National Assembly and relevant agencies that the amount under probe should be over #75 Billion Naira (SEVENTY FIVE BILLION NAIRA), not the touted 40 Billion Naira as the present Interim Management Committee, IMC, of the NDDC has expended over 80 Billion Naira in just four months. Aside from the wage bill, the rest must be subjected to forensic analysis.
The discoveries will amaze Nigerians. So many abuses of regulations. How do you explain the payment of 13.6 Million Naira for “consultancy on the construction of infant Jesus”? The said payment went into a zenith bank account number 1014119683.
How do you justify Two Billion Naira ( N 2,000,000,000) on acclaimed media spending in just two months? How much has the Federal Government spent on media? A large part of these payments was meant to block us from the media. This is why we must appreciate the media houses who have refused to be compromised. You have a date with history in the battle against corruption in Nigeria.
From the numerous payments, you can conclude that the present IMC is only there to clear the money. 34 Million naira was paid into Zenith Bank account number 1012613187 for ‘consultancy on reputation management for NDDC’. Same company received into same account a sum of 536 Million Naira in one day for “campaign to save lives” in the Niger Delta. The payment was broken into 16 units to divert attention. We are sure you are aware of the 39 Million Naira paid on May 19th, for “consultancy on rebuttal”. Three days later, precisely, May 22nd, another 641 Million Naira was paid for media support. Towards the end of March, 2020, when businesses and countries were closing their doors, the same company was paid 34 Million Naira for ‘Niger Delta Development Forum in Washington DC, USA’ and another 32.9 Million Naira for ‘Summit on NDDC and Investment Opportunities in Dorchester, London’, same day.
On the 22nd day of April, 2020, Julius Dinga Nig Ltd, a mining company, was paid 98.3 Million Naira for “consultancy on provision of publicity on the effect of corona virus campaign”. The said sum was paid into Zenith account number 1016587299. A forensic analysis of NDDC accounts for 2020 will reveal heart rendering tales of corruption and disregard for financial regulations laws.
We wonder what the security and anti-corruption agencies are doing despite the documents we have released to the public. It is also patriotic to note that comments from certain quarters that President Muhammadu Buhari appears to be supporting and rewarding corruption in NDDC hence the continuous looting of the people’s resources, deserves some attention by the government. The 2020 first quarter statistics should start reorganizing our priorities. Our debt to revenue ratio was 99%, meaning 99% of our income went into debt servicing. Forget fund for capital projects in that scary situation, ask where salaries and other overhead cost came from. This is the time to block all loopholes. It is time to truly kill corruption else corruption will kill us. We cannot be borrowing for some people’s pleasure and greed. Nigeria must work. Niger Delta must work. The people must not be left in the present state of neglect. The President must act now.

sarrki: The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has ordered a probe into alleged security breach inside the Presidential Villa.
This was made known in a statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, on Sunday.
There had been reports of gunshots and a breach of security within the Presidential Villa recently.
The situation was said to have been as a result of a squabble among family members and officials of the Presidency.

The statement noted that some staff and occupants of the State House have been arrested in relation to the incident by the police.
The statement read in part, ”This is to assure all and everyone that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, is not, and was not at any time in any form of danger arising, either from deadly infections or the reported incident by security personnel which is currently under investigation.
”This particular incident happened outside the main residence of the President.
”Armed guards and other security personnel assigned to the State House receive the necessary training of especially weapons handling and where they come short, their relevant agencies have their rules and regulations to immediately address them.
”Having authorised the proper investigation to be carried out into this unfortunate incident by the Police, the President has acted in compliance with the rule of law.
”That a minor occurrence is being used by some critics to justify attacks on the government and the person of President Muhammadu Buhari beggars belief

Politics / Re: Edo 2016: PDP Asks Court To Disqualify APC Candidate Obaseki September 6, 2016. by smartval(m): 9:16pm On Jun 14, 2020 |
backT: Edo 2016: PDP asks court to disqualify APC candidate Obaseki September 6, 2016.
The PDP alleged that Mr. Obaseki made false claims and provided false information on oath to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The Chairman of the party, Dan Orbih, gave the hint on Tuesday at a press conference in Benin City. He called on voters in the state not to “waste their votes for the APC because the party has no candidate for the election.”
Mr. Obaseki and INEC were joined in the suit No. FHC/B/CO/120/16 dated September 1 and filed by Joseph Aghimien, on behalf of the PDP and its legal adviser, Edoba Omoregie.
According to Mr. Orbih, the party asked the Federal High Court in Benin for a declaration that Mr. Obaseki’s statement that he graduated from the University of Ibadan with a B.A in Classical Studies in 1976 was false.
He said the APC candidate made the statement under oath in INEC form CF001, Part B, paragraph C dated July 11.
“In addition the party is asking for a declaration disqualifying Obaseki from contesting the Edo state governorship election scheduled for September 10, 2016 on grounds that he submitted false information on oath to the INEC on Form CF001 (and) therefore lied under other,” he said.
He added that Mr. Obaseki’s non-disclosure of his membership of a secret society disqualified him from contesting for the office of governor of Edo state.
“In all, Obaseki has failed to fulfil the requirements of the Constitution which in Section 182 (I) h) specifies the qualifications a person must have to contest the governorship of a state,” he said.
Responding to the PDP’s litigation, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Edo State, Godwin Erhahon, described the action as a move by a desperate and helpless party seeking to truncate the expected victory of the APC candidate.
“They have a right to go to court, but they are not the ones to give the verdict,” Mr. Erhahon said.
He said the case against Mr. Obaseki would not succeed before the court and that the APC candidate was properly screened by INEC which has the constitutional powers to do so.
Asked to respond to the specific allegation of perjury, Mr. Erhahon said his party would respond to the issue in court as it would be prejudicial to offer a defence.
“The PDP went to court and they are already out with the verdict that our candidate will be disqualified,” he said. “That is prejudicial and contempt of the court.” In politics there is no permanent friends or enemies, what matters is interest |

According to reports, the rainfall also affected a cemetery in the state as seen in the picture below. The cemetery workers are calling on the appropriate authorities in the state to look into the issue before it gets worse with the corpses.
Some days ago, it was reported that a caterpillar excavator used for road construction – was submerged in a flood after a heavy downpour in Kano state. According to Abubakar Dala, the equipment had been left at the site for some days now – only for residents to be shocked to see it had been submerged after hours of rainfall.

I began to reason if I opt out of my present job and venture into this, how long will this payment last, if the business folds up, where will I start from?
In my present job it might take another 12 months before another increment but I can work there as long as I may wish to work cos it has job security.
