Racoon:It's up to the opposition to present a strong front. Atiku plus Obi will do the trick. Anything else, may as well be a gift on a silver platter to Tinubu. |
Betgold84:Avoid distractions, avoid distractions. Before this case came up, what were your personal interventions towards good governance? |
Chienex24:I have never seen this kind of behavior from any other nation on earth. Unfortunately, when I check the identities of individuals who think and talk like this, they are always the known ethnic jingoists on the forum so it becomes clear where the criticism is coming from. Sad but true! |
2RightHands1Coc:What's your occupation and highest level of education? I'm confident you don't have any business commenting on this issue. |
Kukutente23:You're a funny guy. Do you think typing up paragraphs of gibberish hides the fact that you clearly don't know anything about economics? Stop it. You're not in your village where you intimidate farmers with high sounding nonsense. ![]() Now, what is the economic significance of knowing how much has been collected per person? Or do you think economic and statistical ratios are for decoration? Let me give you an example: GDP per capita is an indicator of wealth. It allows us to infer what living conditions may be like for individuals in a nation. So now that we know how much debt has been collected per person, what insight does that give us? |
Kukutente23:Perhaps you don't understand the question. I've not asked what the impact of debt is on the average man. I have asked what information debt per capita gives us. In the context, you shouldn't be telling me that the government collects 50 naira on 10k transfers, you should show how this relates to the debt per capita figure. is it that when your own share of the debt has been paid off, the 50 naira will no longer be charged? Show the relationship, if any (of course there's none). Again, that the government has debt is not the question. That the government needs revenue to pay for debt is not the question. That the government collects taxes alongside other sources of revenue is not the question. We already know this from the gross debt figures released by the DMO. So the question is what information does debt per capita give us to make it useful? |
Kukutente23:What is it's valid purpose? The computation factors every Nigerian currently living but at the same time the Alaje explains that the debt will be passed on to those unborn, which means the figure he has computed has no real meaning. With every new birth, it changes. So funny enough, the figure calculated yesterday which we have in the post won't be the same if recalculated today. So, if you want to even begin to make the computation sound somewhat meaningful, you will have to factor in the expected number of births across the expected lifetime of the debt. Let us assume another 10 years. Without factoring the number of projected net births in this period, the computation has no value. Secondly, has there ever been a time Nigerians have been called upon to individually contribute to the repeated of national debt? Even your taxes, are they computed on the basis of what you owe per capita of the national debt or on the basis of what you earn? So you tell me, what is the value of this so-called statistic? |
Kukutente23:That means you don't understand what you've read up there. The DMO releases gross debt figures, not debt owed per individual. The figure of debt owed by each individual was computed by one Dr Alaje. And it is annoying to me. |
ZombieTERROR:The reason revenue is not enough is because of debt obligations...thus, it's a circular argument. Digest that if you can. |
The bulk of debt will be paid off by oil revenue. It has always been done this way. People who get into all these irrational computations are annoying. |
Indirectly saying she's bored with his gentle ways and needs a little toxicity to help her feel like a little girl again. Ah this gender o. |
akpumping7720:Does the fact that he's a cult leader mean his death cannot be linked to politics? |
donleo92:Same to you. |
donleo92:I have just answered you as to why you pay tax. You pay tax because you use the roads. Because the police are paid a salary to attend to you. Because there are federal universities that you can go to, which are among the cheapest anywhere in the world becasue the government subsidises them heavily. You left all these to talk about COVID payments as though COVID payments--even in the UK--are the anticipated primary purpose of taxes. If you opt to remain silent, that is not any concern of mine. In fact, it would be better to do that than to spread ignorant views. |
donleo92:People who go to federal universities do they pay as much as State univerisites or private universities? Where do you think the balance comes from? The money you pay when you visit a government hospital, do you think it truly reflects the value of the services rendered? The roads you drive on, you paid for this from your pocket, too? The police you will report to when your neighbour gives you a blow on your left eye, you put them on salary from your pocket? We live in an imperfect country, but for you to gaslight yourself that you don't need to pay tax is ridiculous. Taxes are the foundation of every modern economy. The day your favourite politician enters office, he or she too will need your tax revenue to do basic things for you. |
Neoteny:I've not said otherwise. |
Neoteny:It is alleged that the man is a soldier but it is not confirmed because he could be an imposter. |
How does one make "open" admissions behind closed doors? That was a private admission. This information is useless in any case as every reasonable person knows that Peter Obi was never close to winning. |
BreakingNews21:There's an order to staff and advice to general citizens. Tshe your time to read properly and you won't be confused. |
NOETHNICITY:Well, that's an obvious indictment on your processing powers. Too bad. |
NOETHNICITY:Try to comport yourself so you can understand simple things like the basic analogy I shared up there. Let's try again: Someone came to your house to beat you and take your TV, he only beat you ad broke your hand but left the TV, you now ran into the streets claiming you beat him up. Is that a better analogy for you to grasp the point? For your information: Iran has always been in charge of the Straits of Hormuz because it falls within their territorial waters under international law. What seems to be confusing you is the fact that they now charge a toll, which they weren't doing before. If you don't even understand your own talking points, why should I engage you on the substance? |
Most likely these are legitimate officers doing what the police call illegal duty; i.e no one sent them to that location to do any such thing. |
NOETHNICITY:What you are doing is like someone beating you 5 - 0, then you say you won because they didn't beat you 10 - 0. Rest abeg. |
Incognito403:The grand patrons of corruption on a scale never seen in the history of this nation are Babangida and Abacha. You don't have anything to offer. |
fergie001:I get you. |
Incognito403:You're not making much sense here. Yar Adua barely had any impact on this nation. We were set on the path to prosperity by the Obasanjo you are trying to malign. The little Yaradua did in his time was destructive: i.e undoing Obasanjo's privatisation policies and revoking the sale of the national refineries to Otedola and Dangote. So what was the thing he did that you feel made sense? And did Tunde Idiabgon ever rule the nation? Why would he be considered when a comparison of presidents is being made? No one says Christians are perfect either. We have a number of rogues within our midsts but when we make a side by side comparison there is absolutely not one single positive metric wherein Christians have not outperformed all others. |
fergie001:There is no debate over propriety. The minister should be more dignified than to speak so loosely in public. However, we are talking about whether he meant it literally or not. Now to put this particular issue to bed, let's consult a neutral arbiter in ChatGPT, and this is what it says when asked to explain hyperbole, and whether the minister's comments could be taken as hyperbole in this situation: Fom ChatGPT: Hyperbole is a figure of speech involving deliberate exaggeration for emphasis, often by inflating a reaction or scenario to an extreme that is not meant to be taken literally; it does not require a numerical overstatement but can instead exaggerate intensity or response. The other poster misinterprets this by treating hyperbole as only valid where a specific claim is being overstated (e.g., “a million times”), whereas in reality, exaggerating one’s reaction—such as invoking extreme violence over a trivial or abstract situation—fits squarely within hyperbolic usage. In this case, the statement is clearly hyperbolic because it is built on an impossible premise (“if I could break into the TV”), which signals non-literal intent, and the “shoot him” element functions as the exaggerated reaction, expressing frustration in an over-the-top, non-serious way rather than a genuine or actionable threat. |
fergie001:This is mischievous because you definitely know better. We have all, at one time or another, jokingly threatened to beat, shoot, fight, or otherwise harm a friend or family member, and it is understood beyond all doubt that such comments are HYPERBOLE. This is nothing but flogging a dead horse because it happened to fall dead in the compound of the neighbour you don't like. |
Incognito403:Why do you want to gaslight yourself? Check well. Every period of prosperity this nation has ever enjoyed has been under a Christian. Right from Gowon to Obasanjo to Jonathan. And consistently, those from the other side have stepped in to plunge the nation into chaos. Who goes about killing people? You know the answer. Who breeds masses of uneducated people who are unable to contribute to the economy? You know the answer. Every good thing about Nigeria is a product of Nigerian Christians. Is that not so? Even you know that we are managing you people and you have been a terrible burden on us. |
DeepSight:I've not seen anything to suggest any such. Mere cursory examination of the available photos shows both downed aircraft wrecks in the exact same location. What is the likelihood of two separate aircraft crashing within 20 - 30 feet of each other? That fits the U.S narrative of having self-destructed the aircraft due to the inability to evacuate them at the time. This is a well-known U.S operational tactic which was also used in the Bin Laden raid when one of the helicopters was damaged during the landing. |
Samunosuke:You know a little but you don't know as much as you think. You’re assuming that anything non-literal must be metaphorical, but that’s not accurate. Figurative language includes hyperbole, irony, and other rhetorical devices. In this case, the statement is hyperbolic. The word “shot” doesn’t take on a figurative meaning, but the way it’s used in context is exaggerated for effect. That exaggeration is what makes the expression figurative. |
