Crime / 'I Killed My Mum Because She Demands Sex Everytime' - Segun Ogunlusi by Smoke2015: 6:19am On Dec 21, 2016
A 33-year-old man, Segun Ogunlusi, who allegedly killed his mother, Abimbola Ogunlusi, on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, says he killed her because she persistently asked him for sex.

The suspect was paraded at the Ogun State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Tuesday by the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu.

Also paraded were 23 other suspects who were held for alleged robbery, stealing, cultism, and kidnapping.

PUNCH Metro had reported that Segun had killed his mother and had dumped the corpse in a soakaway on Oketunde Street, Molatori, Ogijo, in the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.

Segun told PUNCH Metro that he was provoked by his mother’s alleged incessant sex demand, saying that he could no longer endure it.

He said, “I killed my mother because she had been demanding sex persistently from me.

“She said if I had sex with her, I would be free. On a particular Tuesday, two of us were at home; she was in the kitchen when I walked up to her, stabbed her in the stomach and she died.

“I poured kerosene on her corpse in a bid to burn her, but the corpse did not burn. Later, I dumped the corpse in a soakaway.”

Segun, who looked remorseful, said he regretted his action.

“I regret everything I did,” he said.

Apart from Segun, four suspected cultists were paraded.

The suspects, Yusuf Dosumu, the ring leader; Moruf Karounwi, Bello Jamiu and Tayo Akinsanya, were reportedly nabbed in Ogijo, in the Sagamu LGA by the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Wednesday, December 14.

Iliyasu said the gang was responsible for the death of more than 20 people in the area.

He said weapons recovered from the gang included one Baretta pistol loaded with one live ammunition, one locally-made cut-to-size single-barrelled gun and four expended cartridges.

Dosumu, however, denied ever killing anybody.

Five suspected robbers, who allegedly gang-raped a lady on Abiola Way, Abeokuta, on Sunday, November 11, 2016, and dispossessed her of a mobile phone and N55,000, were also paraded.

The suspects’ names were given as Damilola Sholanke, Akintola Adeshola, Abdulkareem Ismaila, Olamilekan Johnson and Omidina Ahmed.

Three other suspected robbers, who invaded the Awa-Ijebu office of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, were also paraded.

A member of a gang of robbers who robbed a resident of Ijebu Ife of N400,000, was also paraded. The suspect name was given as Adekoya Adesoye.

Two others, who were caught for alleged theft of a Lexus L-300 – Ifeoluwa Monday and John Edesiri – were equally paraded. The suspects were said to have been arrested on Monday, December 5, 2016, while taking the car to Delta State for sale.

A member of a kidnapping ring in Abeokuta, Okeleye Opeyemi, was also paraded. The suspect and other fleeing members of the gang, had allegedly kidnapped one Seun Osagie and locked up the victim in an uncompleted building in Osara village, Obantoko, Abeokuta.

The victim was reportedly freed by policemen on Sunday, December 11, 2016.

Meanwhile, Iliyasu warned against the use of explosives, such as bangers, during the Yuletide, adding that the law banning their use was still in force.

He also warned those planning carnivals to do everything within the armbits of the law.

He said, “Anybody who blocks the road or makes any road inaccessible to its users, and forcefully demands money or any item from members of the public will be treated like an armed robber.”

Crime / Osun State Magistrate Court Issues Warrant For Oba's Arrest by Smoke2015: 6:10am On Dec 21, 2016
A Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has issued a bench warrant against the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Adewale Akanbi, following the monarch’s refusal to appear in court in a case instituted by the Oluwo of Iwo Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye.

The implication of the bench warrant, according to lawyers, is that the monarch should be arrested and brought before the court at its next adjourned sitting.

Although Oba Akanbi was represented in court on Tuesday by his counsel, Mr. Olaide Yekeen, Magistrate Olusola Aluko issued the bench warrant despite the application for a stay of proceeding, notice of preliminary objection and a notice of appeal filed before the court.

Oba Akanbi, the paramount ruler of Iwoland, was dragged before the court by the Oluwo of Iwo Oke, for alleged criminal offences.

The magistrate had, at the last sitting of the court on December 2, threatened to issue a bench warrant on the monarch if he refused to appear in court on Tuesday (yesterday). Counsel for Oba Akanbi had told the court that his client had several applications before the court, adding that the notice of preliminary objection, which bordered on competence and jurisdiction of the court, should be heard first before the substantive application.

He said Section 19 (1) of the Magistrate Court Laws highlighted the jurisdiction of the court, arguing that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter.

But counsel for the applicant, Soji Oyetayo, in his submission, told the court that the court made an order which the Oluwo had refused to comply with.

The magistrate, in his ruling, agreed with the respondent (the Oluwo) on the issue of jurisdiction, but said the notice of appeal was not ripe.

He said, “The court mandated the first respondent to appear in court. He has violated the court order of the last adjourned date. I hereby issue a bench warrant against him.”

Celebrities / Yemi Alade Opens Can Of Worms With Her Revelation On Sexual Harassment by Smoke2015: 7:13am On Dec 20, 2016
Multiple award winning singer, Yemi Alade, made an informed revelation about her personal experience on sexual harassment in the music industry.

The songster expressed disappointment that those she looked up to in the entertainment industry have demanded to have sex with her.

Speaking in an interview with Punch News, she said, “Record label owners and show promoters are all guilty of this.

“Sexual harassment comes in different levels; some are intense, some are subtle, and some even come through third parties.

“However, I’ve never found myself in a situation that felt very uncomfortable.

“Once I see the signs, I run and the person would not even have the opportunity to go through with his evil plans.

“There are some people who I looked up to in the industry but surprisingly, they also wanted sex."

It has been a great year for Alade who won the honour for the Best Female at the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA).

A repetition of her accomplishment in the same category in the year 2015.

She rounded up 2016 by winning The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) Prize in music

Travel / No Life Lost As BRT Bus Goes Up In Flames On 3rd Mainland Bridge by Smoke2015: 6:41am On Dec 20, 2016
As evidenced by some pictures floating on the online media, a BRT bus is seen to have burnt ferociously leaving only a skeletal framework when the fire was finally quenched.

This occurrence happened at the Gbagada axis on the Third mainland bridge yesterday morning. The great news however is that no one was injured and no life was lost.

Men of the Lagos State Emergency Response Unit, the Fire Service and LRU came to the rescue and saved the day of what could have been a disaster in the run-in to Christmas. The bus' carcass was also consequently taken off the road in no time.

Nairaland / General / Man Stages His Own Kidnapping To Attend Friends Party by Smoke2015: 12:58pm On Dec 19, 2016

The following evening,Mario returned home unharmed but looked extremely tired.

Though the family was all excited on the bread winner’s return he seemed a little depressed. Thus went to bed almost immediately. Marlena scrolled through her husband’s phone and to her amazement, she found series of pictures of what appeared to be a big celebration and her husband in the company of dozens of half naked women.

Romance / Here Is The Cure For Cheating On Your Partner by Smoke2015: 11:10am On Dec 19, 2016
You may be married or in a love relationship and everything is working just fine. Then one fine day you meet an old crush, friend or a lover and are overwhelmed with the past.

You begin by sending text messages, making phone calls and exchanging emails in the name of friendship and you enjoy it too.

It brings a fresh feeling to your life that is run out of romance. Before you realise you fall into another relationship that can turn your world upside-down. To avoid such heart breaking situations and stop cheating your partner, read on and correct yourself.

How does cheating begin?

You have met someone new and the chemistry between you two sends out sparks. You love spending time with this person and would give up almost anything for another meeting or date. You start neglecting your present partner, do not have time for them and suddenly start losing interest.

The friendship with the significant other is blossoming in to a full blown affair. In your heart you know it is wrong but do not accept it. You start find faults with your present relationship to justify your affair. You get into an extra marital affair and soon you are cheating on your partner. Controlling your feelings seems impossible. Although you may feel guilty you continue your affair.

Why is it difficult to give up cheating?

It is hard to give up cheating because it is like an addiction. You know there is something that is bad but you like it. It is fulfilling some need. For example, if you seek intellectual stimulation and your partner is not providing that, you may find yourself getting attracted to somebody who is brainy and fulfills your mental needs. Every little text message, every call and every meeting becomes special, even if it is not going anywhere in the future.

Your needs, emotional or physical, are being met by somebody else and you will find it difficult to give it up since you find it difficult to let go off all the stimulation and need fulfillment. You cannot suddenly deal with a vacuum within you. That is why you may find it very difficult to stop cheating.

Difficult as it may feel and be, it is not an impossible task. Even after one quits smoking, he goes through painful feelings but certainly survives.

Stopping yourself from cheating can mean saving lot of trouble and instability. You have to stop something that is wrong. Here are a few ways that can help you stop cheating and stay faithful to your partner.

Avoid constant messaging and phone calls.

Remember you have a partner who loves you.

Avoid thinking what it could be and what you do not have.

Control your urge to meet up for just one last time, even if it is to end.

Tell the other party that you cannot be in the relationship
Remember it is not over until it is over.

Talk to your husband or wife about what you expect from your relationship.

Avoid waiting for the right moment to stop cheating. Just do it.

Imagine what will be the consequences if you are found out.

Concentrate towards making your present relationship better.

Meet long lost friends or new ones along with your girlfriend or boyfriend.

Count your blessings and you will see that life has treated you well.

Avoid criticising and comparing your partner.

Avoid comparing your situation with the movies. You are for real.

Show respect towards your partner’s trust and emotions.

Spend more time with your partner. Do special things.

Avoid being negative about your relationship or married life.

Share with your partner if you are not happy about something. It works.

Consult a therapist or relationship expert if everything else fails.

In the journey of life you will meet many people, far richer and more beautiful or handsome than your partner. Every time you meet one, you might meet another who is even better. There will always be temptations beckoning you towards themselves. But remember, no one is perfect, not even you.

No one person can fulfill all your needs. So stop being judgmental and focus on making your relationship better.

Politics / FG Denounces Claims That Government Funds Were Used To Pay For Zahra's Wedding by Smoke2015: 5:37pm On Dec 15, 2016
The Federal Government has denounced claims insinuating that government funds were used in organizing an extravagant wedding for the First Daughter, Zahra Buhari.

This was communicated through Garba Shehu, official Spokesperson to the President Buhari, insisting that government funds were not used to pay for Zahra Buhari's wedding to Ahmed Indimi, the son of an oil billionaire.

In a statement released this afternoon, Shehu stated that the President's family and personal aides paid the wedding bill.

The statement reads:

"Zahra Muhammadu Buhari's wedding to Ahmed Mohammed Indimi starting today is a celebrity event to savor any day. Much as the family wants to make their daughter happy they, however, will not make it a royal wedding.

The President's family is trying hard to keep it as simple as possible. Wedding Lalle, Fatiha, lunch event for the men and dinner for the women who must have come from far and near and the bride heads to her husband! In a rare twist, the President asked to be given the bill for the food at the banquet. Government, he said, has no business paying for that."

This should be treated as private. His family and personal aides put the money together to foot the bill. No government money in invitation cards, souvenirs or Aso-Ebi. That's essential Buhari for you!!"

Celebrities / Celebrity Blogger, Linda Ikeji Shares Throwback Pictures From Her Modelling Days by Smoke2015: 3:33pm On Dec 12, 2016
Celebrity lifestyle and gossip blogger, Linda Ikeji has always made it a point to remind Nigerians of her foray into modelling as a much younger girl.

Even though she's made her bones - and money - as an established blogger, you can't but wonder how successful she might be if she had stuck to the modelling business.

According to her, a friend from her modelling days sent her the pictures which she released.

"Designer Mudi sent me these photos from when I did a photoshoot for his clothing line over 15/16 years ago. Some of you may not know this, but I was one of the best runway models in Nigeria from 1998 to 2004.

And I was the face of so many fashion brands. Just that back then, even until now, there isn't much money to be made in modeling in Nigeria.."

There's no way to prove her claims of how good she was or how many brands she modeled for , but lets see if you can rate her from her pictures.

Was she any good?

Events / #sunnyat70: How Sunny Ade Rolled Back The Years And Shut Down Lagos Last Night by Smoke2015: 11:55am On Dec 12, 2016
One of the most common phrases used in news reportage is ‘shut down’. ‘Artiste X shut down such and such city…’

However, juju maestro King Sunny Ade, literally shut down the city of Lagos with the concert held in his honour of his 70th birthday.

For someone whose career has spanned 50 odd years, it was no surprise that all stops were pulled out by him and his management to hold a massive event, the like of which had not been seen before in Nigeria.

Dubbed ‘Sunny on Sunday’, the event was attended by KSA aficionados from years back, many of whom are now the creme de la creme of Nigerian society.

In attendance were Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, billionaire Femi Otedola, former governor of Lagos and current Minister of Works, Power and Housing Babatunde Fashola and several other power brokers.

Younger celebrities such as Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Waje, Omawumi, Toke Makinwa, Funke Akindele, Tee A, Lolo (the three of whom compered the event) Darey Art Alade, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Iyanya and dozens of others also turned up for KSA.

Following a succession of performances by Niniola, Terry Apala, Omawumi and Darey; ageless singer Onyeka Onwenu mounted the stage and gave a thrilling performance of she and KSA’s 1989 classic ‘Wait for me’. She was joined by the celebrant himself and the two of them finished to warm applause by the crowd.

They were soon followed by Congolese icon, Awilo Longomba (who of course is a crowd favourite in Nigeria). He too was joined on stage by KSA and was shown some of Sunny’s electric dance moves.

Crime / Diary - A Failed Attempt To Kidnap Me-by Joseph Edgar by Smoke2015: 6:26pm On Dec 10, 2016
I kid you not.
Some maniac had the guts and firm believe that he could carry out this dastardly act in Shomolu of all places. An attempt was made on my life this morning and I really thank the almighty God for jumping in and saving the situation. I tell you, na this five minute per Sunday visit to MFM na him dey work so o.

I went to buy fuel this morning at the new Forte Oil filling station down the road. As soon as I finished I jumped into my Forerunner jeep and began to accelerate when I saw this Alfa type. He was wearing a long white garment the type you call 'sultana'. He had the stereotype look complete with the goatee. He waved me down and I stupidly stopped the car. I usually don't do this but found myself stopping by the side of the road and he disembarking from the bike and running towards me.

When he reached me, he motioned that I wound down the window and like magic I did, all the while telling myself that I should not be doing this. His ugly face smashed into my subconscious and when he spoke I saw blackened teeth with the tell tale gold tooth sticking out like the monoliths on a vampires head. He spoke very fluent Yoruba mixed with Arabic, querying me like an angry policeman who had just caught an errant driver. 'Why didn't you stop when I asked you to' he said in his broken Yoruba cum Arabic vernacular. I just stared at him with incrudelity, by this time I realized I had made a fatal error of judgement and my heart started palpitating. He was still staring at me with those vengeful eyes still trying to command me.'take me to ikorodu' he bellowed and at that point I snapped and told him to 'eff off'.

I engaged the gear of the powerful machine I was driving and sped off like the devil himself was chasing me. This son of a prostitute was not going to give up, he jumped on his bike and asked the rider to give chase. You know these mallams who ride these bikes are just goons. It did not cross his mind to refuse such an evil command instead he decided to prove to his demon that he was a master rider and gave chase. As I weaved up and down the narrow road leading to my house, they kept on my tail like a tomahawk cruise missile.

This was the Duke of Shomolu about to be assassinated in Shomolu what an irony. 47 years of self less service and being rewarded by a cassock wearing twit attempting to lure me to the ritualistic dens that litter ikorodu. Panic set in and I was really in a state as I tried to dislodge him. How do you dislodge a charlatan on a bike on a narrow road driving a V8 engine with almost monster wheels. I was so conspicuous and stuck out like a sore thumb. I called a friend who advised, I drive straight to the near Army barracks but there was a good 200 meters between me and this perceived sanctuary.

At some point, I decided to slow down and really see if it as not my imagination playing tricks on me. But alas I was correct, as I slowed down, he too slowed down. As I tried to drive against traffic, he did the same and I stopped, he stopped a good twenty meters from me and waited still staring hard at me wondering why his occulting nuances was not working at getting me hypnotized.

Finally, I got to the Army Barracks and drove in. Parked my car and ran to the well armed soldiers with my story. What amazed me was that they actually believed and this gave me the creeps. They had seen too many of these and this time they were going to do something about it. They asked if I could recognize him if I saw him and I answered in the affirmative and we moved towards the gate and truly speaking there stood in all his cassock glory the son of Belzebub waiting for his ibibio prince.

I pointed him out. His blue cap giving him out and his mean mien making him look like a bonfire of evil. As he saw me pointing him out, he crossed to the other side of the road and made to enter what we call a Keke Marwa. The soldiers moved and accosted him.

He knew me in ikorodu and only wanted to say hello and when I pretended not to know him, he was baffled becuase we used to meet at the praying grounds in ikorodu. The soldiers did not buy his story as he could not explain why he then trailed me for over 500 meters on a bike since I had already said I did not know him. He could also not give us a description of his house and did not have his wife's phone number. He wanted to buy a car and wanted me to assist him in buying this car.

By this time the news had gone round that an assassination attempt had just been made on the life of the Duke of Shomolu and all the 'area boys' came out in their thousands singing and dancing and getting ready to unleash an orgy of violence. I realized immediately that I was now in more trouble becuase this mob was going to lynch this person and I will now appear on Linda Ikeji as the main protagonist.

I begged the soldiers to kindly take the guy into their barracks, they refused and kept interrogating him with intermittent slaps . The area boys pleading and begging to be allowed to join the session. They're hands were itching. They were singing my praise, 'Edgar baba BMW, Edgar that just buried his father in law, edgar that bought me ogogoro just last week' edgar ke aghhhhhhh, aye mi ooooo' one of them actually cried like I was his father. I had never met him prior to this. He pulled his shirt rolling on the floor, smashing bottles and threatening to kill himself if they did not give him access to this mad man. Kai, I did not know what to do o. To beg the area boys or the soldiers who had this time turned violent and had turned the guys face into a punching bag further disfiguring him. The area boys did not like the monopoly of violence the soldiers arrogated to themselves and we're getting bolder by the minute. I was actually seeing a fight between the two groups looming.

Finally a patrol team of policemen came by and I ran to them, those fools, quickly grabbed me asking me to enter their smelly truck. One of them asked me who I was and I told him I was a banker. He said, 'na lie with these kind tattoo who give you bank' staring at the tattoo of my daughter Zara on my left arm. He accused me of causing public disorder and that I was lucky that the mob had not lynched the man just yet. Realizing that these were not the saviors that we're foretold, I ran back to the soldiers telling them what happened.

The soldiers, bless their soul accompanied me to the station where my statement was taken. The Area boys also arrived by this time they were up to 100 singing and dancing with empty bottles of local gin. The satans emissary confessed to trying to hypnotize me, stating that he actually got me but did not know how I snapped out of it and that was why he was following me. Apparently, he was on a fact finding mission to discover how and why I snapped out of it so that he would know how to be more successful next time. This was research gone wrong for him.

The soldiers asked the policemen to release me and do whatever they wanted to do with the fiend. So I left the station straight to the nearest ATM machine with three groups of saviors. The police, the Army and the Area boys. My people all three groups wanted to be paid for the roles they all played in saving my life. By the time they finished with me, I was calling my daughter Chantal to ask if there was still anymore money in her piggy bank. I should not have bothered.

People the police say these things happen in December and that we should all be very vigilant. So this is how I would have found myself in the bushes of Ikorodu stark naked with my hands cupping my genitals and begging for my life. Would they have listened?

I thank God and will be at the MFM tomorrow to really dance hallelujah . God be praised.

TV/Movies / '76 The Movie - A Five Star Production By Joseph Edgar by Smoke2015: 2:36pm On Dec 10, 2016
I have a personal interest in the events that led to the assassination of the late Head of State Murtala Mohammed. Maybe this is as a result of my direct involvement. I was a kid in primary four when the late Col Omojokun jumped into the classroom with his service pistol drawn seeking his son Muyiwa who was a classmate. He it was who announced to us that Murtala had just been killed. Our school was located in the bowels of the Military Cantonement in Ikeja and as such a vulnerable target as both the kids of the rebels and government soldiers where all in the school.

Normal people like us were caught in the middle. As soldiers jumped in and out seeking their kids, I began to think of my poor dad who at that time was just a lowly post office clerk in far away Ebute Metta. For his own safety, I prayed he did not attempt to come to Ikeja Cantonement to pick me. I pitied him for all he had as weapon was his stammer, his Akwa Ibom accent and his love for his first born son as compared to the guns these other parents where carrying. Well today is not gist for my dad and how he 'ramboed' his way to come get me, today is about the movie.

To say I was more than impressed is an understatement. As I sat in the darkened movie hall I was shouting internally and hailing the people in charge of the Props and continuity. The costumes, the 70s memorabilia and the vintage cars plus make up all added to making it an exciting journey. Unlike most productions of this kind, the story was tight and well scripted and the casting remained top notch.

I want to especially give kudos to the continuity people, it was a marvel to see that there were no gaps. Rita and Noah gave some of the most powerful performances ever seen on the Nigerian movie circuit. They flowed easily into character and delivered more than what I think they were expected to do. Although Rita started slowly she more than made up for it when she hit her rythnm. Her natural beauty was unmistakable.

Now my little issues. After being tried to be conscripted into a mutiny of such magnitude in which Ramsey's character refused, he went back home to sleep. This can never happen in reality. The last thing he would think of doing would be to go straight home for a good nights rest with his wife. Even the conspirators allowed him and did not follow him to kill him after finding out who they where even his spiteful Neighbour.

Another point was that I could not help but observe that the scene where Ramsey was trying to leave the barracks reminded me of one Kevin Costner Movie where he had just uncovered a conspiracy in the Pentagon and was being chased around the huge building in a bid by the conspirators not to let him leave or make a report. Ramsey went around the barracks, docking and hiding in sequences reminiscence of the same movie. I could not help but see Costner in Ramsey despite the locational difference.

A small but very inconsequential mistake was a fully dressed modern Mopol at the Airport when Ibinabo's character landed and the planes where modern planes too not planes of the era.

Back to the many positives. The brilliant interplay of actual footage with the storyline all but left me drooling in my seat. It brought home the stark reality of the failed coup attempt and the dangers of life in the Nigerian Military of that era. Were the coup its right at trying to overthrows the Government using the fight for ideology as mentioned in the movie as a justification? Did they have to kill the Head of State in making a statement and in reaching the guilty verdict, was due process taken? Were their fundamental Rights to fair trail adhered to. The fact that this was a very popular Head of State whose death led to a series of protest all over the country also put the plotters at a disadvantage since they were already tried by the public and found guilty. Have we learnt our lessons as a Nation by these events? These are the issues that thug at my heartstrings as I watch this marvelous piece.

All and all, this was a beautiful attempt. The soundtrack brought back a lot of nostalgia of the era. The beautiful mix of Prince Nico Mbarga's evergreen Sweet mother and Victor Olaiya's Omo pupa all combined to give me a terrific experience at the cinemas.

Well done to Tonye and his team. This was a well thought out outing and I give you guys my five stars.

Nairaland / General / 10 Incredible Finance Rules Everyone Should Follow by Smoke2015: 7:38am On Dec 09, 2016
Never Want To Be Short On Cash? 10 Incredibly Simple Financial Rules EVERYONE Should Follow

Despite your best efforts, do you find yourself struggling to make ends meet each month?
Overspending and under-budgeting is an all too familiar scenario for many families - but experts say there's a few simple steps you can follow to ensure you're never short of cash.
From budgeting like the Chancellor to employing the 50/20/30 rule, some of the best financial gurus in the business have shared their clever money saving hacks.

1. Be micro expense aware

As consumers, we're constantly spending, often without realising how much and on what.
Our day-to-day "micro expenses" add up and if you calculate, for example, how much you spend on drinking a take out coffee every year it can come as a shock.
Make sure you're aware of your daily expenses so that you're able to stabilise your spending.

2. Budget like you're the Chancellor

As simple as it sounds, know what's coming in and what's going out. There is nothing more powerful than setting and following a budget.

3. Use technology to your advantage

There are a plethora of new apps and services that can help you manage your finances. From keeping track of your budget, investing smartly and tracking your money in real time, make the most of the tech on offer.

4. Save, save, save

Putting a portion of your money away every month is a powerful way to gain control of your finances .
No matter how much you earn, get into the habit of putting some aside and before long you'll surprise yourself with the results of this extremely positive habit.

5. Take an interest in finance

Being educated about finance is half the battle won.

Don't just rely on others to make the big decisions for you. Keep yourself informed with the latest financial news - even if its just the basics.
What are current interest rates looking like? Are your investments making any money? Can you get a better deal for any loans you may have?
A simple mathematical calculation can mean the difference between falling into the debt trap and building up a pot of savings at the end of each month so make sure you're spending less than you earn

6. Make 2017 the year you get debt free

However low interest rates are, try and stay out of debt or clear up any debts you have as quickly as possible. Similarly learn from any money mistakes you've made in the past and use this knowledge to make sure you don't make the same mistakes again.

7. Spend less than you earn

With the amount of real time information on your spending available, you should very quickly understand if you're spending more than you're earning.
A simple mathematical calculation can mean the difference between falling into the debt trap and building up a pot of savings at the end of each month.

8. Only use cash

This may be an old school solution, but only carrying hard cash around allows you to better understand where and how you’re spending your money because it is actually disappearing physically.
It’s much easier to see how far your money truly takes you. Even doing this every so often reminds you of the value of money in a way that contactless cards simply cannot.

9. Check your transactions

Each day, spend a minute or two to glance back at your transactions from the previous day to have a better understanding of how you’re spending and what’s happening with your money.
On a weekly basis, try to spot trends in categories that you can easily cut back on.

10. Use the 50/20/30 rule

Divide your monthly income into set chunks. For example, 50 per cent to go on living expenses, 20 per cent on savings, 30 per cent to spend on entertainment and going out.
This should always be treated as a general principle but can be a great guide to kick off your budgeting journey.

As the year comes to an end, make it a point of duty to start saving or save more in 2017. You'll be glad in the long run!

Investment / Throwback: When 1,000 Naira Was The Equivalent Of $1,480 [photo] by Smoke2015: 12:36pm On Dec 08, 2016
'Nigeria is the Giant Of Africa'.

Believe it or not, that phrase used to be true. Even if that statement doesn't evoke the same respect and feelings as it used to, you still can't bury the fact that Nigeria truly enjoyed some good old times.

Times when things were way better than they are now. When making a great head-start in life as a young graduate was really very easy. When the great lines and tunes of the Nigerian anthem stirred feelings deeply seethed in the confines of every Nigerian heart.

When Nigerians were proud to be called just that -- Nigerians!

How we miss those times! When the Nigerian Naira held more value than the dollars.

A conscientious Nigerian who was probably as surprised as i am now at this little fact sent her mum's International passport that showed that Naira was worth more than dollars in 1981.

"I'm an ardent reader of your blog and thought I share this with everyone. Stumbled on my mum's old int'l passport and apparently Nigeria was once a great country. Once upon a time N1000 = $1480 back in 1981"

Here's the picture of that passport.....

Romance / Things Men Say To Women And What They REALLY Mean by Smoke2015: 2:59pm On Dec 06, 2016
Men are engineered by nature to be the easiest species to figure out. If a man wants a raise, he will ask for a raise. if he wants to eat eba, then he will go out to get eba. If he wants a woman, then he will go all out to get her. It’s that simple…..or is it?, Nowadays men have evolved and many have found advanced ways to woo women in the most resourceful, ingenious and hi-tech ways. Gone are the days where flashing wealth did the trick. That’s why these days you’ll hear just like; “He used jazz on her”, “How did she get pregnant for that one?”, “I don’t know when I removed my pant”. Men have evolved. The game isn’t what it used to be. As a guy, I’m giving you ladies out there “coded” signals to know when a guy is just out for knacks and when he might be interested in something more. So without further ado, here are some obvious scenarios of what a guy says and what he really means by saying those things:

1. When a guy asks you what you what your wearing while you’re in bed it simply means he wants to sleep with you. Period.
2. When a guy asks you for your phone number it simply means he wants to sleep with you.
3. When a guy’s home is scattered but his bedroom is spotlessly neat then it means he’s going to sleep with you.
4. When a man shakes you hand more than 10 seconds it means he wants to sleep with you.
5. When a man insists that you invite your best friend to come over and watch a movie it means he wants to sleep with you.
6. When a guy opens a door for you then it means he wants to sleep with you.
7. When a guy let’s you have the last piece of isiewu on his plate it means he wants to sleep with you. If it’s fish then you’re safe.
8.When a guy gets you ice cream for no reason then he wants to sleep with you.
9. When a guy acts like he’s listening to you when you nag then it means he wants to sleep with you.
10. You invite a guy for mountain of fire new year service and he goes with you smiling throughout then my sister, it means he wants to sleep for you.
11. When your underwear feels suddenly hot while you bend down and there’s a guy in the same room. Just know he wants to sleep with you.
12. When a guy says he dreamt about you just know that dream was about sex!
13. When a guy cooks for you and puts extra piece of chicken just know he wants to sleep with you.
14. When a guy helps you zip up your dress them it means he really wants to zip it down.
15. When a guy helps you start your car, then it means he wants to what? That’s right.
16. When a guy asks you if you’ve eaten then it means he wants to sleep with you.
17. When a guy buys you fuel, it means he wants to sleep with you.
18. When a guy calls you pretty instead of beautiful, it means he wants to sleep with you.
19. When a guy eats your food even though it’s not sweet, it means he wants to sleep with you. 20. If a guy tells you that he’ll always be there for you when youre healing from a breakup then it means he wants to sleep with you.
21. If a guy asked you “How is work?” then he probably wants to work on you.
22. When a guy gives you a ride in his car, and puts on the AC instead of winding down, he definitely wants to sleep with you.

These are just a few instances to name. Thank me later.

Romance / The Player’s Handbook: Signs That Tell When A Shy Girl Likes You by Smoke2015: 9:32am On Dec 04, 2016
First off, let me say that most of these signs, if you’re receiving a good deal of them, are pretty much go signals for any woman, regardless of how shy or timid she is.

This doesn’t mean that you get a few of these signs and you just go for a make-out. It means that you are clear to move forward with her, and to smoothly begin flirting with her and testing the waters for a relationship (sexual, emotional, or otherwise).

But be careful, wasting too much time thinking about a move instead of making one will kill your chances. She won’t wait forever.

1. Sustained Direct Eye Contact

This is one of the most profound methods that women use to show attraction, and one of the subtle signals that they interpret immediately and therefore expect boys to understand to. Basically, this is one of the key body language signs you want to recognize, as well as be able to utilize. Being able to hold eye contact during conversation is surprisingly rare in men, and mastering this ability for yourself is a great way to display confidence.

If you’re good at eye contact already, try and see if you notice a slight dilation of her pupils. This is hard to notice until you get good at reading body language, but it’s another truly strong sign.

If you’re not having a direct conversation but just so happen to make eye contact across the room, and she quickly looks away, don’t look away just yet. Give it a moment or two to see if she glances back at you. If so, it’s likely that you caught her in the act of checking you out and she’s embarrassed or surprised. Keep it in the back of your mind, but don’t yet go in for the kill until you see other signs.

2. Proximity

If the girl finds reasons to be around you, it’s a very strong indication of her attraction to you. Your aura/swag draws her in. Situations like you going out with a group of people, and her finding some reason to tag a long, could be her hoping for a chance for one of you to make your move. Many girls, shy or not, have enough options to the point where they aren’t going to hang out with someone they do not actively want to be around. Whether or not it is platonic or romantic, a girl going out of her way to be around you is a major sign that she likes you.

3. Hair Flip and Grooming

Men, I hope you’re already aware of the subconscious hair flip. Or brush-hair-behind-the-ears. Depends on the individual girl and her hairstyle, but essentially this is a classic way for a girl to indicate attraction through body language. If she’s fixing her hair around you, that means she’s subconsciously worried about your opinion. If she brushes her hair behind her ears, or ties her hair into a ponytail or bun behind her head, this is a subconscious sign that she likes you. The meaning behind this move is that she is exposing more of her face for you to look at and judge, and hopes that you’ll find her appearance to be satisfactory. Similar body language includes fixing her clothing around you as well.

4. Smiles and Laughter

You’re a normal guy. You have some wit about you for sure, but nothing major. But guy if this chick giggles around you like you’re Basketmouth. Guess what, she’s probably seriously into you. Often times you can attribute this to the halo effect, or the phenomena where an individual is automatically interpreted to be good, or better than average, because of their level of physical attraction to the person perceiving them. If she finds even your lame jokes funny, it might be the halo effect making you see more funny, confident, and outgoing than you really are. Or you might actually be that funny, confident, and outgoing. In which case, she probably does like you. Those are some seriously attractive qualities.

5. Language and Tone

If when she does speak, she speaks in a higher pitched tone, or uses childish/cute language, that means she likes you and is subconsciously appearing to be more feminine and innocent to submit to your energy.
