The most laughable part of the APC rice eaters association claim is that PDP people are motivated by money. Buhari cannot bully supreme court judges. He can only try that with the lower courts. The judgements from the tribunal and appeal courts have been cash and carry. Its a big slap on the judiciary

Nigeria earns N98 trn from oil since 1958 — Vanguard investigation

FROM the lips of some experts and eminent Nigerians, yesterday, it was hard knocks for the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, over his comments that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had recovered more than $2 trillion, about N400 trillion, looted from the national treasury in the last 12 years.

Apart from picking holes in the figures, those who spoke to Vanguard said it was sad no one was in jail for looting the national patrimony.

Indeed, Vanguard’s investigations show that since Nigeria started generating revenue from crude oil in 1958, the country has earned about N98.293 trillion.

And since oil, over the years, has accounted for about 80 per cent of the country’s federal revenue and most of the states depend on federal allocation for survival, the total revenues generated from oil and non-oil sources since independence in 1960 is estimated to be about N140 trillion.

Between 1958 and 2007 (CBN Annual Report and Statement of Account, 2008), Nigeria earned N29.8 trillion from petroleum resources. And between 2008 and 2011, the country generated N20.895 trillion. For the period 2012 to July 2015, the figure stood at N47.542 trillion.

Among those, who spoke on the issue, yesterday, were Professor of Political Economy and Management Expert, Professor Pat Utomi; National Publicity Secretary of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Mr Yinka Odumakin; and Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Joe Igbokwe.

Faulting the figures, Professor Utomi, however, said that there has to be consequences for those the funds were recovered from, to deter future looters.

Utomi said: “I don’t know what to say. If so much money has been recovered, who are the people they recovered it from and why are they not in jail? If you don’t jail them, then you are encouraging people to steal more because they know that the worst that can happen is that you can take some of it from them without any penalty. There must be penalties to deter future actions.”

On his part, Odumakin said: “if they recovered $2 trillion in 12 years, from who and whom? Where is the money? The EFCC has been enmeshed in controversy lately over the state of the recovered funds. The former EFCC boss is still being investigated over alleged re-looting of the loot. So, if that is where we are, then, it is a waste of time really and it is a futile exercise.’’

When they tell you that GEJ never bought weapons yet they claim they have defeated BH, you should have asked them if they used their bare hands. The $2.1 billion arms purchase scandal is nothing but propaganda and a diversion from the misgovernance currently ongoing. One year is almost past and they dont have a clue what to do. They will attempt to shout anti corruption for the next three years because they will not be able to deliver on anything.

You can't punish a Trial Judge because you do not agree with his opinion.

If proof of bribery is substantiated, so be it. But to say because he felt party A was right, and you at the supreme court feel part B was right, so the juniour judge must be punished...what impetus.

The only reason the Supreme court is arm twisted into making this sort of decision is because of the mistake it made in the Rivers case.

In the Rivers case, they held that the use of Card reader was not a constitutional provision and so cannot be tendered as evidence as to whether or not an election truly held or didn't.

That opinion was enough to make all riggers win their case.

This opinion is against what the Tribunals and appeal Courts held, and although one may argue that truly the card reader was not mentioned in the electoral act or constitution, it is understandable that the act grants INEC the right to organise it's affairs. Hence, any method it deems fit for Identifying a registered voter should become Law and Binding.

The first and most effective way to rig an election in Nigeria today is to disenfranchise the voters through the card readers. That is one rigging you cannot even fight against. It was used perfectly in the last election. But guess what? Kano state had over two million votes cast but just about 400k voters were accredited by the card readers. So at the end, what Jega has done is that he has put the biggest rigging tool in the hands of inec and the executive. This will be used especially in the presidential elections. That is why Buhari has put his own person as the inec chairman.

I'm not a fan of APC nor Buhari, but if truth must be told in all sincerity without any iota of sentiment, I will say that Buhari really means well for this country. During his campaign, I remember him say that being a victim of electoral fraud and injustice, he will never interfere with the Nigerian judicial system when it comes to dispensing justice. I am saying this because a normal government in power, given the Nigerian context, will muscle out opposition and never allow them to hold sway. But, so far the reverse has been the case. You may chose to interpret it your own way but I think this government should be applauded for this.
