Not that I know of tho. Most Immigrants dont like BC cos it's expensive

Is there an active WhatsApp group for Nigerians in BC, I need to be added please.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by snoop4dem: 12:27am On May 29, 2019
Last month ? To be sincere with you I think you might need to read the Tenancy laws of where you live to understand it better. Security deposit is due to secure a spot (Half Rent) and the rent for that spot is due on the first day of the month. I am surprised that you are being asked to pay for last month and I think any Landlord telling you to do that might just be taking advantage of you. I am not an expert so I will take your word for it as experiences differ.I think we should just move on from this and thank you for this information as I have learnt something new today
AZeD1:
Nobody has said you are legally bound to pay it but I know in Ottawa, first and last month is legal as well as security deposit(that's basically 3 months rent already.)

The question is now what would you advise an immigrant with family that has none of those documents to do in their search for a house? Keep paying hotel fees or bite the bullet and pay if you have the money?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by snoop4dem: 9:31pm On May 28, 2019
Well whether you are new or not,By law no landlord has the right to ask you for rent more than a month at a time. He can ask for those other documents you requested (Guaranto, Ref, Proof of Employment, Run a credit check, etc) and the best you should do is give him a post dated cheque for those future dates. You are not legally bound to pay him for more than a month's rent in advance documentation or not.
AZeD1:
Some Landlord actually ask for proof of employment/ Guarantor before they let out to you, most new comers don't have either so people tend to pay 3/4 months rents since they can't provide the documentation.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by snoop4dem: 5:30pm On May 28, 2019
lolz ! I think you are likely being scammed if anyone tells you this. To the best of my knowledge:
Rent is due on the first day of each month
Your Landlord can ask for Post dated cheques for a full year matching the 1st of each successive month depending on agreement but you dont pay for more than a month at a time. orally, legally and in all areas it is wrong and most probably scam.
Most apartments dont come furnished (Bedding, iron, etc) .They only have the basics. Fridge, hot stove or cooker, etc also depending on place. That doesn't take away the fact that you might find some places actually furnished with beddings and everything you need.I will recommend trying to find a friend you can stay with first; or book and Airbnb for a start if you dont know anyone while you try to look for a place yourself when you re on ground
Folafikemi:
Kindly clear me on this pls,

I realized that rent in Canada which have 800Cad per month tag doesn't really mean u only pay that per month. Some demand for 6months down payment of that price while other 12months.

Does it mean one can't be paying on monthly basis as indicated. Secondly some of the house found on Kijiji are not furnished and still has a price tag as high as 1200Cad. Pls help me solve this puzzle as I need to know what measures to take in securing an apartment in Saskatoon especially when I land. Thanks

Hi @Threadstone thanks for pointing me out to your story. I actually sent you a personal Email cos I have questions about the form filling and my understanding of the concept and context of if any payment was made in terms of gift, money, materials, etc

Yeah, I get that part. What I dont know is if giving her or her family gifts or vice versa is seen as paying them for the application or sthg like that. Cos the question says I have to explain if I have given them money or gifts before and vice-versa
Topsmamen:
Yes. You're adding your spouse after AOR. It's natural that they'll want to verify your marital status and/or ties to your spouse and her family.

Hi Guys,

I asked this question in the sister thread already but decided to also try here if anyone has successfully been able to respond to an adress like the one below:

"Hi Guys, has anyone been asked to fill a Relationship Questionnaire as an address after adding their spouse to their application post AOR. I got an address from CIC to fill this form and I have some questions about it. They are pretty much straight forward questions asking me if I have given gifts (money, material, other, etc) to my spouse or her family and vice-versa. I am trying to understand the context of CIC and I am just looking for someone to bounce ideas off them? "

If hours worked indicates 40 hours per week, that is an equivalent of full time work in Canada. I am sure that will not be an issue In fact some full time hours are 37.5 or even might go as low as 35 hours per week and it is still full time
Upton:
Please I was able to convince my PPA to list out my duties and salary as required by CIC. The problem now is that they refused to state the nature of employment as fulltime; they insisted they weren't the ones who employed me. However, the agreed to include that I worked 40 hours per week. I hope CIC won't have issues with this letter.
Every other thing that ought to be on an ideal reference letter was included except that it didn't state fulltime or not. I hope the hours worked that was stated will suffice

Well you can use the traditional Craigslist which is the most common place to get this done. But in recent times i have heard a couple of my colleagues and even my sister saying she got her accommodation with MarketPlace on facebook! Heads up, it's expensive out here so bring cash! lolz

you only need your Naija PCC. The canadian one will be done by CIC.
However I have seen some pple here do the Canadian one also with the hope that it helps speed up their application! personally I dont think it does as CIC is very unpredicatable and I believe that information is sthg they can get themselves internally instead of you paying 50 box or so for that
HTGAWM:
Thanks for the response snoop4dem.

Please did u have to also submit a canadian police cetificate or just nigerian PCC??

Hi Guys, I still need help with getting driving records insurance from Nigeria. If you have any contact or are able to help, I will really appreciate it as my present driving insurance cost is crazy and I was told to get a letter from an Insurance company from Nigeria about my driving records and that I had no at-fault claims

well as much as I agree with everything you have written, people dont think BC is expensive. It actually is expensive to live in. I used to live in Victoria before moving to Vancouver and I can tell you that the cost and standard of living is very high compared to my friends in other cities. From housing to Insurance, to gas prices, etc... trust me it is on the high side compared to other places and the assumption is that the weather is fantastic and which is what has been driving the prices of things up in this places. e.g a person could be paing 400- 600 CAd for a room in any other province but might have to cough out at least 800 or more in BC for the same room and with stiff competition. People in Calgary can afford to buy houses for like 350-500k in the long term. In BC you wont get a house on the average for less than a million. I live here and I still live here and it is a super nice city if you have a stable job et all but the standard of living is high. But look on the bright side, it is very beautiful and you will know that you are in canada in BC
Oyeleye2011:
I am one of silent readers on nairaland since this great platform helped me achieved my dream of coming to canada few years ago. I think it is high time for me to give back to this wonderful platform. I quite agree that few nigerians move to BC because everyone believe that BC is expensive to live in but you start your life in all these cities you mentioned which are affordable like the rest of the cities in canada. Another reason is that nigerians are few in BC so, some of us relate to white people a lot because you don't see many nigerians to relate with grin. So, people goes to Calgary, toronto, manitoba etc just to be in the midst of nigerians. And so other reasons personally known to nigerians.

Vernon
This city is relatively small compared to kelowna. It takes make less than 45minutes to drive between kelowna and vernon. Less opportunities here for you because there is less companies in vernon but bigger opportunities with less jobs competition for your wife because of her profession. I go there if i want to have a feel of country(town) life and want to get away from busy kelowna life. Please don't mind me, am not a city boy, am from a village in nigeria grin. But very affordable and cheap to live there. Weather is very nice as well because we are all in Okanagan area. Kelowna is central okanagan and vernon is north Okanagan. Lots of sunshine. Shorter winter and longer summer like kelowna.

Hi,
So I am just like you and I can tell you the following based on my personal experience:
1) It is not mis-representation as you may have finished with your department and cleared when you applied but the school has not cleared you or your final grade has not been inputted.....
2) I think after getting your degree completion....go to the boarder, flag pole and get your Post graduate Work permit immediately....do not apply online and be waiting for it...that way you can show your PGWP as evidence that your degree is completed when you submit
3) Letter of Completion and PGWP will suffice. you dont need a certificate. also your online transcript should indicate that your degree requirements has been completed.
4) Yes you can can attach your transcript and it does not have to be official copy.....soft copy will do
If you do the below....I am sure you dont need to submit an LOE explaining that as I did the same thing and my application was approved but I could not get my Passport submitted as I got married and included my spouse and so I was told, my wife needs to be re-evaluated as my dependent. Either way the message is I think you will be fine

HTGAWM:
Hello, Please a quick question.

So I am currently resident in Canada and just completed my master's degree.
I got ITA on January 23rd, and at that time, I had not yet received my "Letter of Completion" from my school because they were finalizing grade approval (The degree certificate is to be awarded by mid-year during convocation).
I just received the Letter of Completion (Its like statement of result in Nigeria) and the completion date stated there is February 1st, 2019.
meanwhile, I put my completion date as December 2018 when I was filling out the ITA form (The is because that was when I last registered in school as it was my final semester).

QUESTIONS:
1. Will this pose as misrepresentation since as at the time of receiving my ITA I had not yet completed my master's degree (since the completion date is showing as Feb 1st, 2019)
2. If yes, will an LOE clarifying it help OR what will be your advise.
3. Can I proceed using the Letter of Completion from school or must I wait for the certificate?? (NOTE: On the letter of completion the date the certificate will be granted is noted there).
4. Must I attach my transcript along with the Letter of Completion, and If yes, must it be an official transcript?

Please kindly help with constructive answer. I really appreciate your help. Thank you.

Hi Guys, does anyone know a secret to calling CIC and actually speaking with an agent. I have repeatedly called 1-888-242-2100 and followed the voice prompts based on this thread and also +16139444000 for Global Affairs Canada also following the voice prompts and it has never been successful. I get to the end where I should talk to an agent and they tell me every time that all their agents are busy and the call drops. I will appreciate pointers from anyone who has successfully spoken to an agent at CIC before.

Thanks very much for the information
blessings2017:
You can always add your spouse before landing. That means even when you have your passport already stamped but yet to travel, you can always raise a CSE to include wifey/new born baby etc.

Raise a CSE, not an email, and CIC would respond in like manner . However, if there's an exceptional delay from CIC, kindly proceed and submit your passport. It won't jeopardize wifey's PPR.

To allay your fears, a friend of mine had his PPR approved, passport sent and stamped (his application took just 1 month from start to finish). He got married 6months after and raised a CSE to include his wife. Wifey application took roughly 2 months. Now they're in Canada enjoying smiley

Thanks for the information. It has not been added and I have called repeatedly but I am unable to get an agent to talk to is why I am trying to find out from other people maybe there is anyone with similar experience
Ifeoma77:
I think you should call the call center and speak with an agent. That way, you will get correct feedback on the status of your application and whether they received the CSE. and you can also ask all the questions you have.

However, a simple clue is to log in your application, if your spouse's details has not reflected yet then it's safe to say that she has not been added and sending passports would be a waste of time and money.

Hi Guys,

I have a question!

I submitted my application Aug 2018 as a single applicant and got married in December. I informed CIC before and after the marriage about my change of status and that I want to include my spouse in my application. I never got an address in my account about the additional docs, instead an agent told me to just submit the Background forms, additional family information forms, proof of payment, etc as a single document in the CIC case web form. While gathering the supporting documents for my spouse, I got an E-mail that my application is about to be approved and that I should update my application by Email (I was given an Email address) and another step was that I should send my passport for the PR visa.

I responded to that E-mail with my wife's documents and forms that has been filled but I did not get any acknowledgement and my status was never updated neither did it show that my wife has been included in my application.

I have not sent my passport to them because I want to wait and insist that my wife be added with my application instead of having to wait to get PR and start thinking of sponsorship which takes very long time.

All the cases I have read of people adding their spouses, they usually got an address on their account and usually knew when their spouse was added because there will be additional slot for them to upload supporting documents instead of Email.

I will appreciate any information or advice from anyone who has had similar experience
