I agree. they need naming and shaming. maybe we should send spies around and form a league table of the smelliest and shabbiest of them all.

seriously its sad that nigerian restuarants dont uphold health and safety. common illnesses and infections can be prevented if not only the dining areas are clean but also the restroom.
restaurants are quite notorious. hotels seem to fair better.

PoliticsDubai To Extradite Ibori To Britain by snowdrops(op): 7:51am On Jul 27, 2010
A former Nigerian official arrested in Dubai by Interpol on charges of siphoning off millions of dollars of state assets is due to be extradited to Britain, a local newspaper reported on Monday

James Ibori, governor of the southern oil rich Delta between 1999 to 2007, who was arrested in May, "will soon be extradited to London," Gulf News quoted a police source as saying.

Dubai police were not immediately available to confirm the report.

Ibori is charged with embezzling 290 million dollars (230 million euros) of public funds and money laundering while he was in office.

An international arrest warrant was issued against the ex-governor who also faces corruption charges in Britain after the discovery of assets suspected to have been bought with stolen money.

On August 2, 2007, prosecutors made a successful "application of restraint" at Southwark Crown Court in London "in relation to worldwide assets worth 35 million dollars belonging to James Ibori," London police had said upon Ibori's arrest.

This bid to freeze his assets succeeded.

Nigeria, Africa's most populous country, is ranked among some of the most corrupt nations on earth.

Around a dozen former governors who served under ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo had been arrested in recent years for corruption.

Governors of Nigeria's 36 states control millions of dollars of public funds, at times larger than budgets of neighbouring countries.

I'm kinda disappointed in Channel 4's documentary though, it was way too superficial.
I can do a better job.

They didn't even go to any Nigerian church, especially the one whose name I shall not mention.
it looks low budget to me compared to the usual dispatches standard.

on the other hand, having to go through all 4000 known african churches is definitely a herculian task. this issue surely need to be revisited maybe in a follow-up programme.

Let Britain provides good job, good life to these people and we see if these pastors can continue with their witches stories.

The pastors exist because there is a vacuum in the society and they exploit it.

I never new Pastor Gilbert Deya is the biggest, I thought it is our Naija Pastors.
exactly. the african community are especially at risk to being left frustrated and desperate to fill that vacuum.

community cohesion is at an ever low point in this country. people risk social isolation. you hardly get the chance to meet with your neighbours. the weather can be killing, so you can find your best friend being your computer, tv or mobile phone.

life can be tough as an african immigrant. people look to the church and pastors for inspiration and to find solution to their problems. and that is why as the documentary showed a man committed suicide after the pastor branded his family a witch.

pity.

Cohomology:
I have no belief whatsoever in them, even if referenced in the Bible. The Christian faith does not hinge on believing the many stories in the Old Testament, rather it is based on believing in Christ as the Messiah, the savior of humanity. All teachings around Christ is what I believe. Yep, you can say my rationality has a singularity in Jesus Christ - that singularity is defined by faith.

The day a pastor will tell me any of my children is a witch is the day I'll slap a pastor in public! That is the level of disdain I have for such rubbish.
yet again the lord jesus and his disciples did cast out demons from people possessed by evil spirits. so this practice is not restricted to the old testament. the issue here is not belief or not in witch craft but of fraudulent pastors exploiting and abusing the vulnerable.
PoliticsRe: Britain's Witch Children by snowdrops(op): 8:45pm On Jul 26, 2010
but witch craft is well documented in the bible as are deliverance for people possessed by spirits. So this is not a nigerian/african thing.

nevertheless, it is an issue of quacks deceiving the vulnerable for personal gain.

Cohomology:
Only a complete slowpoke believes that witches, as portrayed in Nigerian home movies or Nigerian folklore, exist!

Beliefs like these are part of Nigeria's backwardness.
you dont know how compelling religion can be. you put your faith, hopes and belief on a god or someone representing him, you are completely powerless and therefore you must submit to that authority. In that scenario, you would believe any and everything you are told. . . . . . witches, evil spirits, etc.

The lecturer must have been 'really dumb' to be nabbed by these 'super dumb' students.
and to add to that, why would the lecturer go for his illicit rendezvous with the girl in her shabby little bedroom with a mattress on the floorhuh Dem no get hotel for ekpoma again? hotel security would have prevented the students from carrying out the recording.

he surely needed to do better than that. these things have been going on a long time but he was too dumb to have been caught pants down.

to add insult to injury, from reliable sources i gather he is a knight in the catholic church. this has shocked people that really know him. no one would have thought that he would give into adultery.

Already, most members of the National Assembly had in the past few months made suggestions for a bill that if passed into law will help reduce heinous crime like kidnapping, murder and armed banditry.

Funny they omitted peadophila from the list. Ok, they have at least one in their midst.
PoliticsRe: Nigerian Police Plan New Law Of The Jungle by snowdrops(m): 12:46pm On Jul 26, 2010
By this they are asking for draconian power that delivers in their hands on the spot justice. Like power of life and death.
With the history of Nigerian police, we all know where this might lead, its the unprotected criminals and innocent civilians that would bear the brunt.

A randy lecturer at Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Edo State, who allegedly specialises in threatening female students with “Carry-Over”, was yesterday given the beating of his life by irate students.
The lecturer was publicly humiliated by students in one of his victim’s residence by students who were said to have stripped him unclothed and recorded him on video camera as they rained abuses and insults on him.

That was clearly not on the video all over the www.

This incident no matter what people believe has sent a clear and stern message to all lecturers who demand sex from ladies in exchange for exam success.

I guess we should turn to the law makers enact laws that protect vulnerable females. But eh, we have many of their kinds in the legislature/government. Even a paedophile senator.

Therefore, abegi, make we leave matter for mathias or matter-ias.

@ topic.

Oshiomhole being an ex-labour leader need addressing this issue head on, the more it drags the more life's are lost unnecessarily. He should realize that soon enough.

When the health workers resume work they would still be paid their wages, while they are on strike they would make more monies from their private hospitals as the patients would have to go there for treatment.

Dr Momoh, the health commissioner has been a disappointment himself. He is the former MDCAN of the UBTH and has dealt with striking health workers all his life. This situation should have been nipped in the board long enough.

Clearly the state would not have the funds to finance the federal government agreement with her workers. But that should not stop the state from genuine negotiation and reach its own settlement with the workers. For a long time there has always been discrepancy btw fed. and state health workers salary in Edo state.

It is only when this becomes too wide that you have industrial unrest.

Nothing wrong in what she said. She said either Edo or Igbo. If she was ignorant in her statement, then you correct her and tell her which kind of tribe has such name. I think it is either edo or urhobo or an ND tribe if thats his real name. They like to put k before p. Yoruba will say Pele, they will spell it Kpele. So anyone that can validate that this is a Nigerian and not a Cameroonian please come to our aid. We are tired of this disgrace left and right. grin
there is everything wrong in what she did.

she is being sly and mischevious. she is no new to NL and knows how sensitive the issue of tribe is. she is well aware that insinuating that a criminal pastor belongs to a certain ethnic group can trigger a vicious debate which will eventually derail the thread, such trouble makers like her are simply annoying.
