its no longer news that subsidy has been removed from the import of petrol. Subsidy in the very instance was to help reduce the shortfall in supply against demand from the refineries. Basically the Benefits of subsidy removal can only be sustained by identifying the rate determinant, based on the infrastructure on ground the rate determinant in this instance is NNPC. NNPC is way ahead of its competitors in terms of the refineries itself, storage and distribution (similar to the advantages NITEL had over the New entrants into the Nigerian Telecommunication Biz).
As such with the removal of the subsidy, the battle for control of the pricing regime for petroleum products has been thrown open with NNPC having an early advantage, another advantage Nigeria has with the subsidy was that we have developed a well versed import route, with various marketers having the ability to deliver petroleum products from other to countries to Nigeria.

The Government should stop NNPC from Importing fuel, in other words NNPC should only sell what it produces from its refineries, the cost will be relatively cheaper as the factors of production (capital costs) are already on ground, what this would entail is NNPC filling stations will sell Petrol at about =N=65.00 (give or take), while the other importers would sell higher, what this portends is the end user has a choice of queuing at an NNPC filling station for 3days to buy at =N=65.00 or you can buy on the go at =N=141.00 (current price).

PPRA should never set a fixed amount but it should limit the price of petroleum products to a range in other to avoid the public from being overly exploited by greedy marketers.
