Volksfuhrer: Did you read my post at all? Where did I say the British were not complicit?
When you said Igbos committed no atrocities, I could only wonder at the level of propaganda you've been stuffed with.
If you are not ready to face the truth, I can't help you. Revelations of some of the atrocities that went on in the East came up in the Oputa Panel. Yes, they were not as great as the northern version, but they were mass killings all the same.
I would advise you to read Azikiwe's The Origin of The Civil War. He was honest enough to give account of the pogrom orchestrated against Northerners resident in the East, between August and September 1966 about a year before the war. But the massacre in the North was between September and October 1966. You do the math. Both sides were equally guilty! if there was anything the then eastern region was guilty of, it was self-determination, fighting for survival in your own home. zik, though nationalistic, did great disservice to biafra. his political 'correctness' made him loved by the north, but disliked by easterners. he wanted to have both sides, Nigeria and Biafra. |
Politics › Re: The Formerly Secret Files On The Nigerian War Over Biafra. By Mark Curtis by SonOfEl(m): 1:43pm On Jun 15, 2015 |
Volksfuhrer: Op, do some soul searching and critical thinking. Both sides were equality guilty of the bloodletting. The Civil War was unfortunate, but none of the parties involved in every incident that led to the war was innocent!
The first coup was no doubt a blunder, not because it "failed" as some would have you believe! It was a colossal blunder because it eventually became an NCNC coup, instead of a normal military insurrection. The NPC group saw through it, and the rest is now history.
The military was very well politicized, unbeknown to the few true professionals amongst its rank and file like the Nzeogwus. Ifeajuna on the other hand was a keen NCNC supporter; so was Ironsi, though he wasn't complicit in the plot but benefitted immense from the largesse of the NCNC all the same!
Nzeogwu and others who were not part of the NCNC clan thought they were partaking in a patriotic duty, not knowing they were being used by ifeajuna who masterminded the putsch.
And the results? Every high-ranking military officer sympathetic to the NPC group was killed. Every high ranking politician sympathetic to the NPC alliance was also killed. Nzeogwu fumed at the betrayal of his fellow conspirators who took charge in the south and labelled them tribalists! But by then it was too late, the wind had already been sown.
Now you moan that the British supported the FG. To whom did you expect the British should've lent support? To Biafra? You must be joking.
Get this, the British installed the Northern Oligarchs to preserve British interest in Nigeria. And if you must know, they also advised the North not to secede when they had their revenge coup, because of the newfound oil in the Niger Delta. Besides, the British at that time had become disenchanted with the group that decimated the political heirs to their erstwhile colony!
I repeat, the war was unfortunate! And this country would never heal from it if we continue to point accusing fingers on the North alone. Yes, the North committed humongous atrocities, but the East had their fair share of mass killings too, albeit on a smaller scale, of non-indigenes resident in the East just before the war. Perhaps, if the non-indigenes had been large enough, the pogrom in the east would have matched its northern counterpart. Morally speaking, both sides were simply guilty of genocide!
My apologies to those who find this post offensive, but the truth must be told without embellishment. who made you custodian of truth? do not speak on assumption please. unbiased historians especially from foreign inks have proven the complicity of Britain and northern Nigeria to control the nation. there was no case of any genocide from the Igbos to ANY tribe in Nigeria in any scale. so take correction, and stop trying to conceal your biase. |

wadetaw202: Don't try to make excuses for selfish, self-centered and greedy outlooks of nzeogwu, ironsi et al. They shouldn't have been greedy in the first place. If they didn't do what they did, Nigeria would have been a peaceful country by now and maybe no Yoruba would have raised any eyebrow if igbos win elections in Lagos state. But that singular act by nzeogwu, ironsi and later ojukwu has raised suspicion about igbos and their motives. young man I believe your history files are rusty. Google up pre independence attacks on Igbo's in northern Nigeria. 1953 case is a strong instance. |

PassingShot: Do you understand the responsibilities that come with being a Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister for the Economy? Guy, if you don't know let me summarize it for you:
Whoever holds the two positions above is to be blame if the economy crashes. He or she will be praised if the economy grows too. Nigeria, according to NOI had to take loan to pay FG employees in April despite unprecedented earnings during GEJ's tenure!
Without needing to go into specifics, NOI is a comprehensive failure. despite world crude oil price falls and economic downturn, nigeria maintained economic growth of 5% since 4 years, thus becoming africa's biggest economy. NOI is success personified. The world knows that. So you and your NL 'likers' should shut up. |

Awo himself initiated the starvation policy, and those it (kwashiorkor) affected most were children, because of the deficiency of protein in their developing bodies. Soldiers including ojukwu starved many times too. Because they were dogged and resilient in the war dosent mean their bellies were full. Read the accounts from both sides have a balanced view. Asking awo is like asking a cunny man to justify his cunning. Awo is dead pls let the dead be. Death came untimely for him too. |
Politics › Re: Remove Fuel Subsidy – Saraki Tells Buhari by SonOfEl(m): 10:12pm On May 26, 2015 |
989900: For those asking why we were against subsidy in 2011.
We were against it because;
1. We can't fathom how subsidy payments that never exceeded N200-N300b naira for the past years would suddenly leap to N1.3t (roughly 400-500% increase) within the first year thereabout of President GEJ -- we were shocked. #fraud.
2. We also could not fathom how any half-sane man could be drilling oil in his backyard, with 4 refineries in his backyard (with land and space to build more, and 11 licences issued already to build more), but still imports finished petroleum products. (OBJ and GEJ=culprits).
3. To the common Nigerian man, the only 'direct' benefit he gets from the government is, the so called 'subsidized fuel', which we later discovered to be a farce after all . . . so when you are going to take those extra litres/miles from him, or make him pay extra to get them, he has no choice than to revolt/demonstrate/remonstrate.
4. Unless you are among the 1% of the 1%, every other person on the street knows fuel scarcity goes along with insane inflation.
5. You ask him to make sacrifices while the president feeds on N3m/day and has 10 aircrafts in his fleet, his senators get paid more than their counterparts in the richest country on earth. Yet, they find it hard to pay same minimum wage paid in the poorest countries on earth! How can we trust people of that ilk?
6. ATEOTD, subsidy was partially removed with promises of palliatives, and prosecution of the defrauders aka 'cabals', what did we get?Nothing, bar further fraud and corruption; from bribery scandals up to the speaker of the house (Cabal Otedola, well played) to mismanagement of the said saved funds from subsidy payments.
How can you trust such people?!! Same people from the NNPC to the Petroleum ministry, to the CBN, to the Finance ministry, Budgets, both houses, up to the presidency that have no reliable database of how much oil is being drilled/sold per day, nor how much NNPC refines locally, nor how much we do consume/day. stop all this your hypocritical 'sabi-sabi' talk. We know your type. |
