Which engine oil does it use?

Our reason for highlighting these oils and more to come is to ensure that your engine is not destroyed when using oils that are not capable of working effectively with the Range Rover Engine. It has been stated times without numbers that the oil is the major determinant to the success of the Range Rover Engines. Castrol brand of oils are specifically recommended for Range Rovers Engines ditto Mobil 1 USA and of late Penzoil platinum. But it not any Castrol that you see that is Castrol. The GTX Magnatec is full synthetic in 0w20 and 5w20. Any other that is 5w30 and 5w40 are synthetic blend and so does not fall into the category of full synthetic. The advanced full synthetic grades are the extended performance and the Castrol edge both in gold and black gallons. The other option is the Mobil 1Usa( not the local Mobil 1 oils sold locally) Those local brands have no business with the Range Rover and as such, if your mechanic uses it, drain it fast.

I asked the Mobil guy why the special is not sold in America and he said that the financial status of the American is higher than us here and that in a year from now, they will phase out Special and introduce newer products. On sensitising the motorists to beware of the special, he said that the attendant in their station have been trained to inform the public not to buy the oil except for okada and keke....

Mobile oil nigeria promised to send the specs sheet of their lubricants but till date, no email. But we had a lengthy discussion with one of their staff who told me that Mobil special api sf is being produced by Exxon Mobil for Nigerian motorists who cannot afford the tsp api Sl. I now asked him that since when Mobil became a non-profit organization that is considerate about the poor motorists. These companies have no respect for the motorists in the country. Why is Exxon Mobil destroying our cars by producing Api sf OBSOLETE oil?

We are in Ikeja at Agege Motor Road, Onipetesi Bus Stop. There is an Air Force Facility there. These cars are beautiful. Are they still available? I know that people were pursuing used 06 Sport with 4m and they could not get to buy because the prices went off the roof. We sell,repair and upgrade but I dont think that I can get you any for 4m. Pursue those links and bring them for inspection.

A guy did the same for a lady last year when her suv lost a tyre in the middle of the night on third mainland bridge and he was crushed by a drunken driver and died instantly. How good was the samaritan? He parked his car in front of the suv

So what does michelin nigeria say about tyre expiry and since you know much about tyres, why are people still importing all season tyres knowing the implications on the hot weather? Why are you not doing much to disuade Nigerians from fitting those tyres on their vehicles. The Frsc needs ideas and so it wont be a bad idea if you are in the vanguard for safer roads based on your tyre experience. The michelin in Ijora that I once used to frequent had the worry of how to sell their tyres in their warehouse whose expiry date was already ticking and there is a name they call their head there who made these worries known and made me to visit their tyre fitting shop to find out if they are bringing in all season tyres into the country.

9icetoo, It is true that Michelin says 5 years to inspect. Is the Michelin UK or Nigeria? Do they produce the same tyres for Nigeria and Uk? Do we really need all season tyres in Nigeria? Do we need winter tyres in Nigeria? Have you driven on a wintry road full of ice or snow? The four years is the right age for a tyre to last in our kind of weather. Do not say that Texas is hotter than Nigeria because they dont have a high incidence rate of burst tyres. I have inspected tyres from a popular car lot in Ikeja and the man claimed that all his cars comes from Texas and they all came with all season tyres with Temp B rating. This year, the FRSC will begin inspecting tyres not only for the expiry dates but for speed and temperature ratings. Imagine an S class fitted with T speed rating. That is suicide alert. Abi the recession mean say you nor go buy better tyre to save your life and property?

That is a good question. I have not seen any car manufacturer that recommends 5 w 40 for their cars. 5 w40 is majorly for those oil companies to make oils that can protect the engine above 50 degrees but when you have a 5w 30 that can exceed 50 degrees, or 5 w 20 that can exceed 50 degrees, you have gotten a better oil. The oil primary task is to lubricate the engine and take away the heat from the engine and keep it cool. It is assisted by oil coolant which is attached to the oil filter to keep the engine temperature down. But when the 5w40 cannot protect the engine, eliminate sludge and keep it cool, then you should be wary of the oil. Honda cars require 0w20 nowadays and motorists don't bother to use the grade of oil. That oil grade must be of high quality.

Mobil special 20w50 made in Nigeria is Api SF. Obsolete. Beware.

Does the amber light turn to red?

SON are doing their best according to one of their top guns. It used to be worse than this. They told me to try and visit Oil Marketers blending plants and you will begin to sing the lamentation of Sodom. He claimed that the SON sticker on the gallons are just signs that they registered the oil and not that the certification was approved. They do not even have a laboratory to conduct such tests and so the beat goes on. The local oil labels know what they are doing and it is a shame that it is Nigerians that are in charge and doing this abominable acts against the country. But when you see the other actions, like adjusting the meters in the evenings and paying their fuel attendants 10,000 a month as salary, then it is an all round cheating arrangement. There used to be a time when Q7000 label was being swapped on a Q5000 Total gallon until we caught them. I once bought 95 litres in my Range Sport at a Forte oil Station at the Local Airport and when I shouted, they quickly begged me to pay what I have and I paid N5000. 95 litres in a Range that takes 80 litres and I came down and saw that the meter was zero when they started dispensing and I was waiting for the automatic to cut off and it never did. On many occasions in TOTAL at Toyin in Ikeja, they doctor the meter in the evening and restore it by 10 am the next day. I have warned them on these occasions to stop it and I think every motorist should be vigilant and don't allow these cheats to ruin our mobile investment. They cheat on the fuel that is being dispensed and cheat on the oil quality that they sell. They make claims that are not and make motorists lose their time and money over their activities. These are economic crimes against Nigerians and I call on the CPC who are viewing this topic to act now. After the Mobil 1 claims verification, we shall look at the foreign oils being dumped into the country. I saw one 5w30 Yesterday which was an SN but it was written that it is only suitable for smaller engines, like Kia Rio and it is selling well and the mechanics and motorists are not reading the label where it is stated that it is only suitable for smaller engines, 1.4 litre to 1.8 litre engines. Read the label on the gallon of oil that your mechanic is putting in your car. Most Motorists even buy these cheap oils and claim that that is what their money can afford. It is enough. Good conventional oils last for 3 months and anything above that, it turns to gel. Oando SM last for two months and anything above that, na you know. Happy New Year in advance.

The one on the picture is Api sm which is also Ilsac 4 which according to Ilsac is no longer current. The one that I posted was an Sn but with 3 different Acea certifications and which is not ilsac 5. If your car is less that 2008 MY, and it is not those that requires serious oils, then go for it. But the question is, which car are you going to put the oil in?

The oil is having the same characteristics like Oando Syn but we dont know if it is genuine. You cant have three ACEA certifications on one particular oil.
