Range are no cheap to run . However if you cannot spend N100k on a routine maintenance then you got no business owning a range rover cos in the long run you will spend more plus have a bad experience .

I know someone that took his R Class to Globe Motors and he was given a bill of N900k for fuel related issues. A car bought brand new. I have seen Coscharis workshop giving to a Range Rover Sallmama 04 1.4m bill to fix transmission related issues. I now asked the owner, how much is the car?
100k is ideal for routine maintenance every six months. Some owners will not strap their batteries properly and in the long run will destroy the battery and causes the electronics of the car to malfunction. Let me quote you again :if you cannot spend N100k on a routine maintenance then you got no business owning a range rover

that is true. Castrol extended performance is 70k, two air filters, one paper oil filter, diagnostics to check the car and reset the service required. All these for 90k. It is oil that matters. If we were to use our local aluminium oils, na poison be that. It will fry the engine as it could not keep the temperature down. Range rovers are reliable if you follow the recommended advice of the maker. The Castrol 5w20 sold by Eterna oil is the number one cause of failure of these engines. That oil is not even on Castrol's oil lineup in the US. Anyone with a knocked engine knows for sure that he will not get more than 2m to sell the body without an engine. When I said that the engine is sold for 4m, it is the naija used engine that have sufferred from wrong oil usage and low octane fuel that you will get for that amount, so in a nutshell, it is a lose lose scenario. That is why there is a need for preventive maintenance to put the car in shape. When people talk about reliability issues, I keep wondering where they get the news from. A 2010 range rover has a wobbling suspension, many people will say it is the balloon but we found out that by changing the brake disc and correct brake pads, the story ends. A faulty brake switch can cause havoc on the electronics ditto a blown rear bulb. Range Rovers are for Directors and not for Managers.

The reliability issue comes from the use of the Engine oil. From my little experience, our fuel is also a factor but the Range Rover can survive the effect of a low octane fuel better than BMW, VW, Benz and even Acura hence you see them always cruising on the road. Since the engine oil that can hold down the temperature of the engine is not available in the open local market, then issues arises.

Balloon issues? How well do you know the car? How much is the balloon? And how often do you hear the balloon giving issues? I once heard of a mercedes Cls with balloon issues and the balloon costs 550k and the owner needed 2. It took the owner 6 months to raise the amount and sold off the car. With 380k, you will buy 4 balloons of the range rover sport but there has never been anytime when you will need to change 2 balloons in a range rover.And it is also the mechanics who see all issues as balloon fault because they are too lazy to check out the faults. I once heard from a Range Sport owner how expensive the maintenance was, that he changed the two rear balloons for 600k. His driver quickly moved away, then I knew that things are not what they seem to be.

Twice a year. The Engine oil price depends on the current exchange rate. Last year, it was 3k per litre, this year, it is going steadily into 7k per litre

You buy 10k fuel. Is the fuel station meter accurate? You might be buying 7500 fuel and the meter will read 10k. You have every cause to be alarmed but check your air filter as you were advised. We perform miracles in Lagos. Bring the Lexus and it will change to Corolla instantly. Corolla is a taxi cab and no basis of comparison with a Lexus

Registering the car is not an issue but very soon, your car will have to go for physical inspection and that is when the car will turn into a risk zone vehicle. You see road safety, you panic, police o, na high bp. Of what use is driving a convertible and being oppressed by the circumstances instead of the other way round

Very reliable and maintenance is cheap. It is only when you try to use mobil 1 that you will hear tales by moonlight. The number 1 problem is the engine oil. Many people ignore that and fry their engine. Getting used engine is above 4 m and most owners still cut corners when it comes to maintenance. Genuine brakepads is not more than 15k per set, oil change with the recommended 5w20, air filters is not more than 90k and that is twice a year. Hello Sopperescue, Please what are the alternative recommended engine oil and ATF for a 2003 ford explorer? Read SAE 5W-30 is the recommended, currently using Coastal 5W-30 synthetic blend, is this good ? and for the ATF it is using Certified perfomance engineered instead of the Mercon V recommended.. Is it a godd idea? oil change every 3 months regardless of how many KM covered.

Coastal is good. The Motocraft recommended is mostly found as synthetic blend. But I dont know the alternative ATF that you are talking about. Ford is very delicate when it comes to their transmission and it is advisable to use Mercon V or its equivalent which are superior fluids that can handle Mercon LV like Syngard .Servicing of your car is 6 months even with Coastal. It is an API SN better than the local labels

Like we discussed, nothing to fear about flushing. I have been shouting for everyone to hear that our local oil manufacturers do not sell oil for our cars of 2000 and above. They still make oil for Peugeot and Santana. And we end up spending money to fix the wahala they caused while they gloat over their profit after tax. I just saw TOTAL fluide 11d being repackaged in new cans and I just smiled. Fluid 11D is for cars made before 1983 and it was the oil that I used in 1990 in my Renault 18 Auto, that car was a 1979 model and that oil was recommended for it. Oando, Dex 111 is not 111h else it would have worked with your car.

why wont they sell diesel of substandard quality to Africans when africans are known for doing nothing for themselves and waiting on the white man to produce basic products they require. its in human nature to cheat on those who cant fend for themselves. if only africans had their own refineries, we wont be bothered about importing oil from the west or europe.
The way the world sees us as Africans is how they treat us. they (europeans) wouldnt sell dangerous substances to other countries because of enforcable strict laws and regulations. but down here in Africa, anything goes because they know africans are poor & corrupt couple with the fact that if Africans see money, they will loose their sanity and morals

The government agency to create standards and enforce it are still living in stone age. Imagine SON's oil standard for petrol is regular unleaded while the standard for engine oil is API SD which anyone can import into the country. API SD are for cars made before 1979 and that is their standard. Their R& is comatose hence they should have kniwn that 90% of the cars on Nigerian roads are from the North American and so their standard should be our standard. All the Mack trucks are gone. Their rotors are all destroyed. Many diesel suvs are destroyed by the high sulphur content in the diesel and the agency is confused

I want6 gallons of the Mobil1. How can I get it in Lagos

I had a quarter tank in my Range Sports and decided to fill it up with 50 litres and drove into Forte Oil at the Local airport and they filled it up with 88 litres. The pump started from Zero and I shouted at the attendant to call the manager. I told him that Range Rover Sport tank is 80 litres when empty but I had quarter tank of fuel in it. Where did the fuel go to. The manager Mr Shuaibu was now begging that I should pay any amount that I felt like paying. Please dont ask how much I paid. I don forget.
Anther time at 2nd TOTAL in Toyin, Ikeja, they adjust their meters in the evenings and put it back in the morning before 10 am when TOTAL staff begins patrolling, I caught the guy who was tampering the meter and he ran away. Every one started begging to forgive and forget. Buy fuel if you can before 4pm and after 10am the next day. The attendants are poorly paid, between 10-15k a month but they own many cars and buses on the road.

They are not supercharged but that notwithstanding, efforts must be made to determine the root cause for such actions. Unfortunately online diagnostics is very limited as the vehicles are far away in Abuja. For the lr4. the brake pads matters. There are too many aftermarket cheap brake pads that limits the effectiveness of the air suspension.

Crying because the substandard oils are destroying the car. There are castrol oils recommended for Audi and they are all 5w30. I know someone that sells Ravenol and I will ask if he has the cvt

Does the abs light comes up on the dashboard? Let them scan again and it will reveal which of the abs sensor that is the problem. The problem might also be steering angle that needs to be calibrated. Hdc fault is also showing too. Just calibrate the angle sensor and let us know the outcome.

I am sorry about that. I can't contain my anger when I see these oils being sold to us as the best in the market. You recommended the castrol oils and I had no choice but to condemn it. Cars that are required to use api sl are cars made before 2004 and a 13 year old car is not new. I am not selling castrol oils, a friend is bringing it in. I am a user of the product as it is the best oil for range rovers. If you sell your Mobil1 advanced full synthetic for 4000+, why should Castrol extended performance be 8000 a litre? I am currently battling SON on their standard for engine oils which according to them is Api sc and you claim that api sl is not obsolete for modern cars is like forte oil claiming that their synthetic 10000 is good for GM diesel cars but not okay for GM petrol engines.
