Hello, I am facing this Nin issue too. I did a change of name on my NIN a week before capturing last year December. Early Last month when I tracked it on the immigration website, it says NIN verification failed. So I went to the Alausa passport office to check what was happening but the officer in Registry said my name is not on the list printed that day for those with NIN issue, that I should check back in two weeks for collection. Today I tracked it again but the Nin verification part is not Ticked. What could be the issue now?

PS: My husband and daughter own are in passport production.

Please let your woman update her NIN first. Disparity with the data provided on her application form and NIN would result in NIN verification failure.

Why would you want to delete it? Is there no way to decline and probably accept this current one? Or maybe you should just go ahead with filling it.

I was at Alausa from 8am-3pm yesterday.

For the third time, they came back with my slip saying it was not ready. I no gree o, I went to PCO office and she was amazed that I haven't gotten my passport given the date I captured (Dec 13).

She ordered they look for it, they couldn't find it and they checked the system. I was sha told that it had been produced but there was a technical issue on it so they had to send it to Abuja for correction and I should come.back for it next week.

I told them I wouldn't be able to come on Monday which my name falls on cos or work and they agreed that I come straight to the PCO office and not wait in line whenever I come next week.

A friend that captured Dec 1, his file was nowhere to be found. PCO gave them 24hrs to search for his file and print his passport or face disciplinary action.

She sha begged the guy to come back today. My guy said he'll give them till Thursday.

Alausa PCO is a cool and straightforward woman.

Thanks a lot. I started in July last year when someone enlightened me on the impact of french on CRS score and gave me his echo A1 book. But the book was so boring to me until I stumbled upon a post by @Cooooooks about vite et bien and it was a game changer. I employed a private tutor that same month and she was like the perfect icing on the cake. I did a month subscription with ‘learn french with Alexa’ too while I was also listening to the Michel Thomas series at any spare time both at work and at home. Immediately I finished the vite et bien B1 book, I focused my attention on ‘the communication progessive du français ‘ by the same author of vite et bien and also started streamlining my practice towards the TCF exams bécause I discovered I had learnt enough vocabs. My tutor was a major booster and I couldn’t have pulled through without her efforts.

So in summary, I used

Vite et bien (A1 to B1)
Communication progressive du français
Essential French grammar
The Ultimate French (couldn’t finish reading this)
Vocabulary in dialogue series (Couldn’t finish this)

Private Tutor: For the entire learning period. Also, my Tutor was very determined to ensure I succeeded. We became very close. I got to know her through a website called Superprof which someone recommended for me because I needed a physical tutor and not an online one.

Also, I already knew I was writing TCF , so no need studying TEF materials but I participated in their speaking sessions in various platforms.

Overall, the best way to learn the language is to love the language first and then immerse yourself. I’d sometimes speak french to my colleagues and patients at work just for the fun of it LOL. The books and michel Thomas Series made me keep going back for more. Each time I felt like giving up, I’d come to this thread to read People’s testimonies and that would fire me on again. So this thread played a crucial role too. Since my colleagues knew I was studying french, they easily covered for me at work too. Not failing to acknowledge the help of God who is the orchestrator of all things.

Unilag French course is basically academic French, which is though part of the required French to pass TEF. However, that alone is not guaranteed to pass TEF, as TEF is a systematic exam. You don't need to know everything in French but u need to learn the necessary French guided towards passing TEF. Afterwards, you start TEF preparations with has to do with strategies and practices to passing the exams .

UPDATE!!! Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread. I started learning french from Ao when I posted this comment. Took the exam in my 5th month of learning but didn’t get the desired B2 in the CO. Took the exam again in the 7th month and God did his thing! Special thanks to @Cooooooks for recommending vite et bien, the book actually made me love french. I would be writing a detailed breakdown of my study path later.

Thanks so much, this is so helpful. I am already an A2 learner, I just need classes to help boost my learning quickly. I will look into the IEF and private tutor to see which will fit my budget.

Long story short, if you are thinking of the Unilag French programme, get yourself a private tutor or you can attend classes at IEF or Alliance Française. Personally, I prefer IEF classes.

The best time to into the pool is once you are qualified for it. Since you are still a young lad, why not take up an MSc or an added diploma. Since you live in Lagos, I’ll suggest you purse the French diploma at Uni Lag, so you gain two things, French speaking abilities and an added certificate which would increase your scores! Best of the best

Hmmmmm. I just left the Alausa passport office without collecting mine and my daughter's passport. They even misplaced my husband's collection slip without issuing the passport(thank God I snapped it before dropping it).

We are told to come back in 2 to 3 weeks. Seriously, those officers on duty today were out to frustrate we DIYs but we muveeeee.

I will give them one month, till first week in May before we will go back to check.

Update from Alausa/ikeja NIS center.

If you captured december 1st to 19th, your passport is ready.

Those who captured december 20th and upwards, your passport printing starts today

Strictly for those who captured December 2022.

You can present your NIN slip with your maiden name as far as the name tally with the one on your marriage certificate.
*I will advise you to do your name modification on your NIN before your passport renewal. Then you can use your married name to fill in your passport renewal details

Documents needed for a Name modification
* Change of name affidavit
* Newspaper change of name (print out the page where your name appears)
* Old NIN slip
* if you want to do it in the NIN office, pay 500 naira for name modification on their site, print the receipt, then submit it with other documents in the NIN office. (But I will advise you to use any NIN Agent close to you to save you the stress and time of going to the NIN office several times before it will be modified. Mine has not been modified since December because I did it through their office and it has affected my passport renewal)
