HealthExperience In A Nigerian University Teaching Hospital by Spark2(op):
Hey guys!
So my mum has been sick and was admitted in the hospital. Weeks ago when it all began, we rushed her to the teaching hospital. Mum was in severe pain. We were left at the emergency ward for a period of 6 hours before we were attended to.

After we were attended to around 11pm, we were admitted and the nurse was asked to take us to a ward upstairs. The nurse came to us and complained that he is tired because he has pushed over 25 patients up already and that we should wait till morning. In the morning, the nurse vanished and we were left there like that. Hours later in the day, we requested that we be taken to the ward but we were told there was no space in the ward. It was then that my anger started, I created a scene there after which we were taken to the ward.

One of mums leg was amputated because there isn't flow of blood and oxygen to it. The other leg has been okay except for pains. When we raised concern for the other leg, they said they'd treat it. We were discharged with some medication. Even though the doctors were aware that mum has serious pain in the other leg, We were asked to return after a duration of four weeks

The leg that was amputated is healed now. However, Mum has not been finding it easy at all on the sole of the other leg that was not amputated. It has been four weeks of sleeplessness and pain for her. we returned after the four weeks they gave us and told them exactly what she's been passing through. I was so shocked to see them prescribe the same drugs they prescribed earlier. The same drugs that has not solved the problem within the four weeks. I thought they'd do a deeper investigation to know what exactly is making the leg to pain her in the sole of her foot. I became more surprised when they said we should return after two months. Haba!!

I feel the teaching hospitals in Nigeria are overrated.
Why are government hospitals like this?
Do they even care much about the patients?

The sight of your own biological mother in tears everyday and you sit beside her knowing there is nothing you can do is not a sight to behold.

I wish I have the money to take my mum to a private hospital where we can get a good medical attention.

If you want to reach out to assist with a token (no matter how little) to help take my mum to a private health facility or you want to give some words of encouragement or prayers. I'd appreciate.

Note: I'm a 25 years old ambitious graduate still struggling and trusting God for footing.

Thanks.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Mention One Mistake You Made That Cost You Alot In Life. by Spark2: 9:21am On Dec 14, 2021
I made two mistakes that I still regret
First, Applied to study medicine in 2013,
I was given a different course to study. Wrote another jamb and still could not get medicine and then I gave up. Today its four years since graduation and I'm still struggling. I want to still go back to University to study medicine so that I'd know I did what I wanted to do. Fulfilment.

Secondly,
Last year, during the covid, I made a very big mistake of working with a start up scam NGO that made us collect money from people saying it wants to give them some Empowerment. The owners of the NGO just ate all the money. What pained me more is the fact that I was paired with a girl (married but divorced), we had to share the same hotel room for a period of four weeks. I was strong at first, man, I failed. I've been a virgin until I met this girl. I still regret having sex on several occasions with this girl.
The trauma of possibly contracting HIV and also the pregnancy. It's over a year now, I escaped HIV and for the pregnancy, she claimed she had a miscarriage.
See what unemployment almost did to me. To God's glory I'm out of the woods.

May God deliver us!

HealthWhere Can We Get Prosthetic Limb For My Mum Who Was recently Amputated? by Spark2(op):
Hello NL,
I made a post here few days ago about the doctors suggestion of amputating my mums leg as a result of diabetic gangrene. The post can be found here https://www.nairaland.com/6836435/doctors-want-amputate-mums-leg

It has been a trying time for us. Thanks to all of you who counselled. I received many replies and emails with great counsel which guided our decision. Many sympathetised with me which gave me a sense of belonging. Thanks nairaland.

We yielded to the doctors suggestion for amputation because of the urgency so as to avoid the gangrene from extending to other parts of the body.

My mum was amputated within the week and She feels much better now. I must say she is strong now. The wound is fast healing.

I have assured my mum that we will get an artificial limb for her so that she will be at rest. My mum is hypertensive and I wouldn't want her to be thinking much. Beyond just making her not to think, We'd like to get a prosthetic limb for her so that she will be able to walk again but my family is financially contrained at the moment.

I was told by someone that there are NGO's that give prosthetics to amputees for free or at a discounted rate. I'd sincerely appreciate if you can help recommend any that you know so that my mum will walk again.

Thank you very much Nairaland!

Please seek for expert opinion by going to a specialist hospital. The situation is dicey, and if nothing is done on time your mom might lose her life.

Last week we buried an uncle who died from Diabetic complications. Earlier on he was told to amputate his legs, but the family wanted to go traditional. In the end, it was damn late. What started as a small sore took his whole life.
Thank you sir.

fokudas:
On the 21st of this month will make it exactly one year my Dad had similar case and his leg was eventually amputated.
My Dad had diabetes which he had been managing for over 10yrs before first quarter last year things were not properly handled and it resulted to a very tiny wound that eventually degenerated beyond the control of health centre to general hospital to federal medical centre all in Lagos before we landed at LUTH.
All the test you mentioned plus many more was carried out on my Dad. The Head of Endocrinology was on ground, Head of Surgical section was on ground Head of Emergency was on ground after all said and done it was concluded that the only option to safe his life was for the leg to be amputated thereby putting a stop to the circulation of infection to other parts of the body, it was a very tough decision to take but at the end of it all we had to agree for it to be done.
The leg was amputated as agreed and God took all the glory I must confess it was God all the way cox our eyes see things for hospital there. The medical personnels in LUTH are just too good cox the level of attention and professionalism accorded to us was just awesome (Again I belive it was God using them to act right), the cost implication was beyond the family again God showed up and everything went well.
The prosthesis is pf different types and quality the very best with good quality ranges from 500k to above 1million the last time I contacted those in charge but in LUTH they have a section that handles such as well.
So my brother I must confess to you that the amputation may be the only option as regards your mum's health challenge, the moment the surgery is done successfully, she will be relieved of those pains and she will be fine.
Above all, you need to be prayerful even with the surgery it takes the mercy and grace of God to get things right all through. I pray the voice of the blood of Jesus Christ will speak for your mum and over her life to bring her out of this in the name of Jesus Christ.
May the Lord see you through all this.
Amen. Thanks for sharing

From what I have researched there is no cure yet on ground and to ease and save your mum's life amputation might be the best bet. prosthetic fittings can be done and your mum can walk again and with proper diabetical management no more harmful neuropathy will come her way ever again.
The other leg should be monitored as well.
Good luck.
Thanks for this. Pls do you have any idea the cost of prosthetic leg fitting here in Nigeria?

HealthThe Doctors Want To Amputate My Mum's Leg. Advice Needed by Spark2(op): 7:27pm On Nov 05, 2021
Hello NL.
I'm going to keep this brief.

It started three weeks ago. my mum, who was walking normal with no problem suddenly could not walk. Her left leg began paining her severely that day. My mum was all in tears... She was rushed to the hospital where it was discovered that her sugar level was on the high side. The hospital gave drugs which stabilised it, at that point my mum was very weak, couldn't eat, each time she eat she throws up and also had some pain in the leg still. After a week in the hospital, we were then referred to a teaching hospital after a test showed that creatinine in her kidney was high.

The teaching hospital tried their best and I can say my mum is now okay. Except for the left leg. She can't still walk on it, the leg feels cold to touch with a little discolouration above the foot.

Doppler test showed that blood isn't really flowing through the leg. And they said they will need to amputate the leg to prevent the infection from growing to the other parts of the body.

Please I want to know if you know anyone who had similar condition and amputation was recommended but was later healed without need for amputation.

Please share your recommendations. I need my mum now more than before in my life. We are confused on whether to allow them to go on with the amputation or seek other alternatives.

Thank you very much.

Pls note that as at now, her sugar level, creatinine and other things are normal.

Pls I would like to know how cost of living is ,over there in Kano as I'd like to migrate there from Delta state and would like to go into teaching as it's my passion ,pls how much can one rent a selfcontain apartment there or a mini flat, how is Foodstuff there too and life generally, thanks.
Life is cool here. You can get a teaching job that will pay you 100k plus but you might need an insider in most of the good schools to update you on opportunities.

Accommodation depends on location. A good self contain will cost 60k plus. Here in Kano, its easier to rent a whole house. With 120+ you will get a good house with tiles...

Cheers!!

Hi guys,
I trust this meets you well?
I am 25 years old, I'd soon be 26.
I'm a graduate, I served in Kano and stayed back after service doing a teaching job. I am paid 35, 000 naira per month. The 35k finishes on transportation and feeding even before the month ends.

I started learning a skill in tech about a year and half ago, I've gained some confidence already in web development, I can call my self a Front-End Developer now with some knowledge of back end development... I have made up my mind to keep learning everyday. I have a dream of going fully into tech and at this point in my life, I need a job that will offer me the opportunity to learn what I'm personally interested in. I want to work in a team that will help me to grow, not a teaching job where I am overworked and get home tired everyday and have little time to code.

After sitting and considering all these, I made up my mind to resign my teaching Job by the end of December. I'm going back to my hometown (a state in the North central) where I hope to go down to Abuja in search of a better life or better still if I get one in my state.

The thing is that I'd need to take this bold step now while I'm still a bachelor before I get married and unable to.

I understand that it is a hard decision to take, but if I let fear hold me down here, Many years will pass and I will be here held by fear. A colleague shared his story with me, that he was afraid of leaving and for him, it's 11 years now teaching and he is still struggling. He's married and it's now difficult to take any step as such.

I need advice, if possible share your experiences so that I will learn.

Thank you very much

CrimeThis Organisation Has Been Stealing Money From My Account. Do You Know Them? by Spark2(op): 1:26am On Aug 27, 2021
Hello,
Do you know any organisation with this name?
Money has been escaping from my account for sometime now without myself initiating it.
From the debit alert I'm receiving the money is going to a company called OPEYE and is probably in Lagos.
Do you know them?

See the debit alerts attached to this post for better understanding

My bank said they can't trace where the money is going to because its done online. Yes I made a payment sometimes back online to a loaning company. KashKash I think. I contacted them and they said they're not the ones.

Thanks alot.

You are spot on man!

For the benefits of others: When choosing a city to study. How big or financially endowed a city is shouldn't even come to play.

i will Choose BRS ahead of FAU

The immigration office in Nuremberg aint friendly at al. After ur first year you might be forced to block the complete money again ( It happened to me ). as a foreigner one of the most important things is to get your immigration matters right.

Also the semester ticket for any school under NRW state is second to non ( u can travel from anywhere in NRW to as far as hannover ( northwards ) , to kassel ( southwards ). you dont wanna miss out on NRW semester ticket.

Accommodation in Bonn and its environs are way cheaper than Nuremberg/Erlangen. As a student you will get 20hrs per week in Germany, so think about this.

As for opportunities, studying in a city doesn't mean that ur destiny is tied to that city. I studied in a very small city but worked in the big cities afterwards. All you need is a student job which u can find in most places.

Bonn has so many big employers like DHL Global hqtrs, deutcshe telekom, postbank, etc

You can be in Sankt Augustin campus in less than 30mins from bonn central station. you can even ride to school.

Having lived in both cities. I will choose Bonn anyday anytime.
Hi Bro. I will like to ask some urgent questions. I just sent you a PM
