Globalshaper:
Please the recent IHS and visa fees paid on the 21st of July by a close contact is show below:

IHS: $959. 52
Visa fee(Standard) : $494

Dependent Cost:
IHS: $940.12
Visa fee: $494

QUESTION: Does this means that the fees have been reviewed upward as it is slightly higher than what was obtainable before now?
Most likely the pounds-dollar exchange rate obtainable at the time of payment.
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 8 by SPDAZZY(f): 12:15pm On Jul 09, 2023
I saw a refusal post and though it wasn't connected to finance, it reminded me of an argument a few weeks ago on the rate used by ECO.

''• Rate of exchange £1 = [987.73 NGN] (reference www.oanda.com on [07/07/2023]"

If you check the rate on said date, you will find out that it's the NGN-GBP rate and not the other way round despite the ECO saying £1 to naira.

This is especially important if the difference between both exchange methods is large.

Thanks for the response, I had to pay the full tuition just to mitigate the exchange rate palava. Tuition paid in full, no other way to supplement
I think you can submit them all since the tuition is already paid in full( which I think should also work in your favour). They are your accounts with funds accessible to you.

Moreover, if they didn't want additional accounts, there won't be provision to add more than one bank account.

All the best.

What I did was to show an account statement with enough money to cover the flight fare and some miscellaneous expenses and then added my payslip and accomodation contract to show I can accommodate her and take care of her while here. First visit was for almost 5 months.
Thanks very much.

This depends on your situation and the requirements. Make sure you have enough to cover the airfare and a bit more (at least that's what I have done several times in the past). But my situation may be different from yours so do what you deem siutable to your situation.
Ok, thanks for your response. I thought there would be like a maintenance amount to show for the duration of stay.

It should not be an issue but why spend all that money on flight when she can stay for 5 months straight?
When you say it will affect your kids, what do you mean? If they are so attached to their granma, have you considered sending them to live with her?
I want to co-ask on this. Please how much proof of funds would be deemed sufficient for a child care visit visa of this nature.

This reasoning does make sense. Also, since the rate has been quite dynamic recently, for those just commencing POF, it is probably advisable to either just purchase your forex directly and show proof of that in your bank statement, or use a high rate (1200?) that accounts for potential future fluctuations.
Purchasing the Forex directly seems like a great suggestion!

I disagree with ur analysis. The UKVI will never valued your NGN as a basis to get their our currency equivalent (NGNGBP) The currency position is GBPNGN, GBPUSD or GBPEUR as the case maybe

Using the Oanda Site as at today.

GBPNGN, NGNGBP

1 GBP = 1,013.95

1 NGN = 0.00097 GBP

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtKE2ru6nfA
On the Oanda website, there is 'Currency I have' and 'Currency I want '

As Nigerians, we have naira and are 'buying' pounds with our naira not selling. GBP-NGN means we have pounds and want to buy naira.

I will reiterate that we are buying pounds and should use NGN-GBP.

TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 8 by SPDAZZY(f): 10:12am On Jun 25, 2023
haslemolapade:
The GBP is the transaction currency also known as base currency . The right arrangement is GBPNGN.
UKVI will convert their Pounds to Naira equivalent using the oanda site.
They will NEVER and NEVER put Naira First in the Oanda converter to determine their Pounds

GBPNGN

1 GBP = 1,013.95 as at today

not NGNGBP
I have to strongly disagree with you. The applicant's available currency is naira which he would trade in for pounds for his maintenance and tuition.

So the right arrangement would be to determine how much naira would give the desired amount of pounds for POF.

I know we all want the more palatable news, but the truth is that it's NGN-GBP and not the other way round.

Hi Duchess and others in the house

I have gotten my passport back with visa Approved for the past one week and few days now but i don’t get a BRP mail yet
Checked all spam mail, promotion and important mail.

What can i do ? Is there anything wrong not getting BRP mail
I don't know the importance of the BRP mail. I never got any till date and I picked up my BRP when I came to the UK.

As long as you have your visa, I don't see any cause for alarm. When you get here, you pick up your BRP at your selected point of collection.

Hello house, Pls as at 15th of June, I checked oanda rate, and my financial requirements is still intact. I have printed my POF over three weeks for my CAS to be issued. Checking the OANDA rate again on the 16th of June, my financial requirements needs 300,000k more and I can't put more there anymore. And I have applied for my visa within 24hours frame. I will go for biometrics on Wednesday.

Please what should I do.
Should I cancel application or stop the biometrics. This FX really disturbed me.
I think duchess has said this to a lot of people, the best bet is to pay like 500-1000 pounds to your school.

Alternatively, if you have a second account that had up to that amount in 28days, you submit the second account as second POF. I used two account statements during my application.

Yeah, for minor fluctuations, they won't mind. With bigger fluctuations, the Officer might have concerns that the Applicant won't be able to sustain himself/herself in the UK when the funds are converted to GBP since they would be grossly insufficient.

Let's hope for the best though.
You are right, that's why it's been advised to always add additional buffer funds. And this new rate increase might be challenging.

Good morning everyone, please i want a clarification on how ukvi calculate pof. Is it the rate on the date application is been decided or the rate on the date you uploaded and submitted all documents. Cos different ppl have been saying different things on that.
Rate for the date you submitted your application is used for your application.

Hi, good evening please kindly assist.
I was debited for form A gtb on 9th of June and today being the 13th of June I’ve still not been debited for my telex, offshore and cbn charges. Please does any one know how long it takes for gtb to debit their charges and how long it would take for school to confirm payment. Please 🙏🏼. Deadline is June 20th.

@duchess90 please I need your help 🙏🏼
The most important thing is that your fees have been debited. Some banks debit the charges separately, others don't and somehow incorporate it into the rate of exchange.

The CBN charges do not prevent your uni from getting your fees.

Ps: This is a personal opinion from experience.

Pls someone should answer this got debit as well but cbn rate and bank charge not yet debited?

If you're less than 12 months in uk you'll need POF in your account for 28days
Thanks for contributing and clarifying.

I know I read same on the site but someone was saying the duration of the POF might be overlooked as long as the money is there.

Thanks again.

Hi all,

Please if someone wants to switch employers and has been in the UK for less than a year, does the POF(as maintenance is not being taken care of) need to have been in the bank account for 28days as required when in Nigeria.

Thanks.

Hello guys,

Please I need your honest views on my proposed plan.

I am thinking of going to the UK for a self-funded PhD next year. I invested a lot in pursuing a PhD in the US this year, but unfortunately, it didn't work out. I am still trying to get myself out of that disappointment because I am fed up with my job and the country as a whole.

The thing is I am not financially robust to fund a PhD in the UK, but I am considering my options. I know many Nigerian students that are in similar financial positions as myself or even worse but have managed to self-fund themselves in the UK.

I am married with a daughter and I plan on going with my family. My wife is a teacher with Montessori and British curriculum experience. Many of her colleagues that travel abroad find it easy to get teaching jobs because of their experience. My questions are

1. Will I be able to raise my tuition fees by working part-time as a PhD student? What kind of jobs can I do as a part-time PhD student?

2. I have had a discussion with my wife and she has agreed to bear more of the financial responsibilities in the family during my period of study. How lucrative are teaching jobs in the UK and will she be able to meet up? I'll try to support when I have sorted out my tuition.

3. How much would we need as a family to move? Please I will appreciate a breakdown of the cost. I am targeting low-tuition universities for my PhD (Teeside, GCU, Salford, and Coventry).

Please I will appreciate advice from the experienced ones here.

DMainMan, I would appreciate your input sir.
Hi, my response is based on my experience as I am currently self funding my PhD with my husband's assistance. It is extremely difficult and we practically live paycheck to paycheck cos of saving for tuition. My school gave me a 40% bursary for my second year but it's still very difficult.

One of the challenges is that the PhD research is so demanding that I hardly have time for jobs as it's said that PhD is a full time job and you are required to put in about 40hours weekly. I have only worked up to 20hours one week since over 14months of being here. Coupled with having a toddler which I see you have a daughter so believe me it's not an easy task. I have a colleague who has tuition funding but no maintenance funding, however he says it's not easy either.

My advice would be to seek funding if you are in a science based course even if it's tuition only. UK schools as rightly pointed out do not really give funding to overseas students.

Your wife would find a teaching job yeah, however the pay would not be enough to pay fees and survive and if your child isn't up to 5 years, how would you two manage with childcare as teaching is a day work, your research is a day job too.

To play the devil's advocate, what if your wife changes her mind about sponsoring you mid way into your studies? Especially when the pressure of using all the funds from teaching for your fees as teaching doesn't really pay much.

As someone else has advised, I will say she comes in with a teaching qualification education route, use your funds to fund her education whilst you can comfortably work in perhaps a more paying and flexible job(for your child) than teaching. She would most likely get sponsored after her studies as teachers are well sought after. You may also find a work sponsorship in your sector.

And to cap my long write up, if you find funding, doing a PhD would be more rewarding in the long run and you will have a longer term visa of more than 4years, you would network during your studies and at completion, you stand a great chance of getting a nice job too.

All the best!

With the IHS calculator, I got £705 for each applicant. But the main application is $905 for the primary and $1510 for each dependents. So I don’t get the difference in amount.
Are dependents correctly under him as a student and or any under 18s? I suspect the dependents are being charged full IHS fees and not the discount available to students and under 18visas.

If the dependents are clearly his student application visa, then I can't fathom what's happened.

Hello everyone. Pls help my friend, he's been a victim of dependent visa in the UK.
He met the said wife few years ago and they developed genuine relationship leading to marriage. Unknown to him the lady only stayed in the relationship and pretended to be in love because she knew of his plans to travel abroad one day.
Her parents supported her in all of these and deceived the guy and his family with marriage, he found out the truth few months after they arrived here. He's been devastated and depressed a lot of times. He spent 80% of the money to get them here.
Aunty has ran away from home and changed number, she blocked him everywhere and keeps uploading nice pictures online.
Has anyone been in this situation or knows someone that has been? How can he get justice pls. He has all evidence that relationship was genuine.
I will be in the comments
If this is real, this is very cruel. shocked

I think he should just start chasing his own sponsorship as soon as possible so he's no longer dependent on her. He can seek his justice best when he has his personal visa.
