TV/Movies / Nigeria On American Tv Shows by spikyn: 6:58pm On Dec 11, 2008
Has anyone else been noting how Naija keeps popping up in TV series?

First we had the crashed drug plane (complete with 500 naira notes and all) and 'Mr Eko' on 'Lost', then 'Burn Notice' starts off in Warri and not the first episode of 'Leverage' is called 'The Nigerian Job', and surprisingly enough the portrayal was {trying really hard not to spoil} unexpected.

Comments anyone?
TV/Movies / Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? by spikyn: 6:51pm On Dec 11, 2008
It's not bad. It has a bit of a Next Gen vibe if you like Star Trek you'll know what I mean.

I'm watching some old episodes of ST:TNG and I am re-tripped! They're fab!

for truth, where vesc go?

Oscars are in January?! Hmmm, guess we're hoping for a post-Oscar boost. On that note, the Academy don reverse their decision to ban the OST of TDK so their probably expecting it'll win or they've heard all the raking going on on the 'net.

Superman was a 7/10 and that was being generous. It required you to have seen Richard Donner's first 2 movies and read the movie prequel comics to even begin with and then like Ex pointed out Superman's struggle should be how to be human in spite of his powers (the guy can take over the world all by himself!) and while his pining for a human chick is fine, having an offspring is not. The storyline would've worked perfectly as a comic-book arc but not as a mainstream Superman story.

@ Did you ever see the Marvel vs DC skits online? They're brilliant! Do check them out.
TV/Movies / Re: Best And Worst Movies For 2008 by spikyn: 8:56pm On Dec 09, 2008
Me too! That's what always trips me with Pixar, when I hear the concept of their movies, it never strikes me how they'd work and still they do.
Music/Radio / Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? by spikyn: 8:52pm On Dec 09, 2008
@iice: and there I was thinking you were a U2 fan!  sad I guess you can't be perfect in everything abi?. . .   grin

TV/Movies / Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? by spikyn: 2:10pm On Dec 09, 2008
@iice how do you rate 'The Mentalist'? And Eleventh Hour too?
Music/Radio / Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? by spikyn: 4:38pm On Dec 08, 2008
@iice you picked up the African U2 Tribute album ba?

How come Naija no feature as we suppose?
TV/Movies / Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by spikyn: 4:30pm On Dec 08, 2008
The re-release na for Oscar glory o! But I guess it'll also help it hit the $1b box office takings too.

Hancock 2? I'd really have liked to see the original cut of the one we got in the cinemas but I guess you can always run with the concept abi?

Superman is badly in need of a reboot, I guess it's going to depend on the director that gets picked but if it's still Singer then the guy should look back to his indie days for inspiration.

@ Ex, I finally see your point, very valid in misrepresentation kinda like Hancock but I do think most people don't get the movie as the ending was ambiguous like mad,
TV/Movies / Re: Best And Worst Movies For 2008 by spikyn: 2:29pm On Dec 08, 2008
Thanks for allowing room for more than one grin

I'd pick
- TDK
- Iron Man
- Wall-E
- Incredible Hulk (by being far better than Ang Lee's epic fail)
- Kung Fu Panda
- Mongol
- 24: Redemption (Jack's Back!)

Worst:
- Quantum of Solace (not as a movie per se but as a follow-up to Casino Royale)
- Bangkok Dangerous
- Jumper
- Babylon A.D
- almost all the comedies that came out this year
TV/Movies / Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? by spikyn: 2:49pm On Dec 06, 2008
Burn Notice is good. Not as action-y as 24 but as a lighter fair, it fits.

My Own Worst Enemy

@Ex: How was the Minority Report trailer deceptive?

@iice: glad to've helped your relief grin

I saw Burton's POtA and felt it was ok and modernistic (if such a word existed), Tim Roth creeps me out as himself. . . LOL

My favourite Terminator was/is T2 and I'd really like to see TS knock it off but the director gives me little hope.
Romance / Re: How Do You Get Over A Break-up? by spikyn: 6:40pm On Dec 05, 2008
@iice: wetin I do?  embarassed

@Don-Ese: I think nixing the rebound option is good. I assume you know this person well? Are you guys in touch at all? I know you're trying not to do the 'bug-a-boo' thing but it is silence that divides and keeps us apart, even if all you guys do is talk around the issue, as long as you're still in touch, there's hope but . . . if you guys do move on separately try to hold the 'manifesto night' as early as possible. Bottomline: stay in touch so if he still wants you back, he knows the door is still open. On another thing: I find that if you are the one who brings the bad news home first in a relationship, it does far better than if an 'ECOMOG'/third party does. So I hope whatever you told him, he heard from you first??

'It shall good'.

P.S. try not to break the PS3 pad in half   lipsrsealed
Romance / Re: How Do You Get Over A Break-up? by spikyn: 9:44pm On Dec 03, 2008
That's assuming the alternative is a 'good' breakup? And is it final? If there's hope for a link-back then go with that.

Well, it's either you look for a way to numb yourself to the pain. Or you could take stock of what went wrong and try to deal with it so it doesn't become baggage for the next one.

Also if you really were into the person, it never goes away so you have to find a way to live with it.

Sorry for your hurt. sad
Computers / Re: Do You Remember These Cartoons by spikyn: 7:06pm On Dec 01, 2008
I believe the Battle of the Planets (G-Force) is still popular in Japan (some characters are in one Wii beat 'em up game like that: Tatsunoko vs Capcom) and I kinda freaked out when I saw a Voltron with cars instead of lions.

G.I. Joe & Terrahawks too! I still remember the 'S.O.S. Mr Tracy' song Kate Kestrel used to sing. I'd love to have it sef. I'm humming as I type . . . . grin
TV/Movies / Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? by spikyn: 6:53pm On Dec 01, 2008

TV/Movies / Re: Review Any Movie by spikyn: 2:55pm On Nov 25, 2008
@iice, I feel you on Babylon A.D., I heard Vin and the director washed their hands of the project sef.

One problem I have with the 'new Bond' which kinda stuck in my craw more than aping Jason Bourne is the super-specialness of the Daniel Craig version. If you watch the earlier movies, Bond was just a bloody civil servant, one among many agents and he never was first pick. M always used to berate him and wash him down with ease. While I like the Mother-Son bond he has with Dame Judy, i think it severely undermines her authority figure standing in the context of the movie.

Read something online yesterday in which Daniel Craig was promising that the next movie will bring back the "steamy side of Bond". I for one didn't miss it.

@Ex bed-hopping and trysts didn't exactly stop Charlie Wilson, wink
TV/Movies / Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by spikyn: 2:47pm On Nov 25, 2008
Well all the ones I got I got for free and the TDK one is being offered online as a free for download .pdf.

yep, it Aronofsky. I was asking about The Wrestler because it's being rumoured as an Oscar contender. I'll try to track it down sha. The Secret Life of Bees was billed as a contender as well but I guess it didn't resonate as well as it could've.

'sup vesc? I dey o, any successes with the oldies? say, d'you actually own a Wii? no pun intended.

Saw the pre-air for a show called 'Leverage', pretty nice in a 'Hustle' sort of way. And I'm just getting into 'The Mentalist' and 'Eleventh Hour'. The first few episodes are cool.
TV/Movies / Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by spikyn: 7:40pm On Nov 24, 2008
hiya. do any of you guys collect or read movie scripts? Warner just put up the script for TDK just in case.

Did anybody here see The Secret Life of Bees? Or The Wrestler? I need the heads-up.

Stay you.

I saw Quantum and Bangkok Dangerous too.

Bangkok Dangerous owes me money, Quantum owes Jason Bourne money.
Religion / Re: Do Aliens and Vampires Really Exist? by spikyn: 7:29pm On Nov 14, 2008
As someone had pointed out earlier; God would be an alien. So would spirits and even angels.

Some descriptions in some biblical text like Ezekiel and Revelations do offer up what if viewed today would fit the descriptions of alien beings and flying saucers/UFOs. But then again, define "normal" or even terrestrial. There are plant and animal life on earth as is now that would spook anyone.

TV/Movies / Re: What's Your Most Memorable Moment In TV History? by spikyn: 7:04pm On Nov 14, 2008
I'd have to say watching the Twin Towers get hit by the second plane and later crumbling,

Off live tv? The slaughter of Daniel Pearl. How can you slaughter a human being?? My stomach actually retched and I couldn't finish watching over shock and nausea,
TV/Movies / Re: Best Movie Villain/"bad Guy" by spikyn: 6:52pm On Nov 14, 2008
I'm just recalling Schindler's List again and I remembered the one scene with Amon Goethe that sealed it for me: the one where he'd just moved Ysak into his office and as he was leaving he says something like ", look at me, remember who you work for now" and that was it. That look was Oscar-worthy and I still don't believe how he didn't win.

On a separate note, I loved Snidely K Whiplash from the Dudley Do-Right movie with Brendan Fraser, grin

I hear talk of TDK going up for Best Picture at the Academy's, I Feel Good! <sorry James>!
TV/Movies / Re: Best Movie Villain/"bad Guy" by spikyn: 6:25pm On Nov 12, 2008
@kev-d: Amon Goeth definitely goes into the upper echelo(o)ns of evil. I'm sad I missed him first time around.

@vesc: did you really think Virtuosity was that bad?

Palpitine for me is as funny as Dr. Evil, grin maybe it was the campy way in which he was portrayed. I can get a baddie feeling evil but what gets me is baddies who think they are good or right or like the Joker said ', ahead of the curve'. Now that's truly worrying. D'you guys remember the scene in Goldfinger where Auric and Bond were sitting outside his ranch-house drinking mint julep and Bond felt he'd figured out Goldfinger's plan and was being smug about it till he finally "gets" it and then he goes like, 'I apologise Goldfinger, '? The smile on Auric's face was more that worth it. Now that's evil.

@Tex: I said movie but it's all good. I think Sylar from Season 1 would be scary to meet sha.
