Haba! Hitchcock can make even the simplest things scary and anyone that could make James Stewart scary is gotta be on the top of the heap. My take on Peter Jackson is that he loves the source materials he works with and it shows. All his movies are labours of love so even when they get overlong and heavyhanded like King Kong you still admire his art. Ludlum's books and books in general work because our imaginations fill in the gaps and it they draw a good-enough outline/framework, it becomes easy to fill it with personalised imagery that's why I believe the Bourne movies just took the outlines and did their thing. I can unashamedly admit to loving Mr & Mrs Smith and seeing in thrice in the cinemas ![]() The art direction of Frank Miller is still what defines him and he writes mean stories too, I like that about his works. The Saint was cool but I guess in the era of Pierce Brosnan's Bond, the grittiness and realism kinda made people pass it over and the cold fusion subject matter didn't help either. Val's alive but I haven't seen him in any movie since Kiss Kiss Bang Bang though I think he's in the Dylan biopic. Tom Hanks was great in The Ladykillers but I think somehow coming so soon after O Brother, and George Clooney didn't do him any favours I just saw Fracture and Anthony Hopkins is King! Sorry Sean Connery, I still love you |
Casablanca - "Happy Ending" is very relative, ![]() |
This is one thread that seems to be worth the reading time. I am a Spielberg fan. I appreciate Scorsese but only like his movies in doses. His update of Mou Gan Dou as The Departed was pretty good and I like the spin he put on it. Spielberg annoys and thrills with equal vigour. I like the fact that he reined in Michael Bay on Transformers a bit but he gets sloppy with his endings though when he takes the mickey out of people like in Minority Report, very few people seem to notice/get it. I'm trying hard to be patient ahead of Indy 4 sha ![]() I love oldies. Last time I was in the UK I blew all my money buying Casablanca, The Big Sleep, an Audrey Hepburn's movie boxset, The King and I, It's a Wonderful Life and a few other movies I wanted to collect. Older movies have much better dialogue and pacing and Frank Capra is the only director that came closest to making me spill "eye- water" for a movie or two. There are some exceptional "new-school" directors out there now that I follow: Christopher Nolan, Doug Liman, Brad Bird and Paul Greengrass have my eye. Hi iice! |
@ iice, sorry I kinda bailed out on you, I've just had to balance a lot lately. Haven't seen Entourage or Saturday Night Lights but I've seen Taye Diggs' "Day Break" and I just finished the first season of Dexter, have Jericho in hand. Did you get to see "Thief" from the FX network? Loved that and Andre Braugher deserved his Emmy. I got "The Nine" and the first (and only[?]) 4 episodes of "Drive" and the complete 3rd season of House so I have quite a bit to watch. |
u2 |
I've tried it. I downloaded and installed the 3.01 version but upgraded last week to 3.02Beta. It's good, it's fast but it's as buggy as naija roads. I'm back to my Firefox 2.0.0.5 sha. If there's another version I might upgrade and try it again since I love the way the History on the pull-down tab arranges the pages visited with dates. On it being a beta release; I started using Firefox as at 0.0.7beta and it hung less and consumed way less memory. |
@ iice I have seen "House" and I loved it though I've yet to finish Season 2, the Heroes 1st season really has been a class act and I really hope Season 2 doesn't do like Lost and kill itself. Joan was okay for the 1st season and mainly raz till it got canned. I'm just starting with Kyle and it holds my interest so far, Monk is still nice though only in small doses. Angel was Joss Whedon but I'm all for his Firelfly, definitely a must-see, have you seen that one? Only 14 or so episodes but it will rock you. holla back |
I barely got to watch much by way of TV Shows from the latter part of last year but I'm definitely interested in your thoughts on any or all of the shows listed? |
Congrats on the little man o! As my people say "May God give him the life of an old man". Just no burden am with that kind name ![]() I don't think Hulk'll kill anybody though some preview cover of X-Men #200 advertises the death of an X-Man but I can't confirm if it's related. Black Bolt being taken out like that's gotta be worse than death and I guess the main advantage the Sentry has is his reality altering abilities. But see something sha, did you notice the smile on Reed Richards' face when the Sentry agreed to "help" Hulk? It would seem to tie in with the New Avengers #31 storyline involving the next major Marvel story arc, besides Reed's suppose to be outta town with Sue abi? My movie hopes this year na Transformers, Ratatouille, Live Free or Die Hard and Bourne Ultimatum, I'll still see FF2 sha. You dey follow Iron Man movie developments? That Arsenal dream na dream o! |
Viera o! I dey, I just been dey offline for a bit. World War Hulk 1 don comot, I like how Hulk dey approach all the "Heroes" wey try am. Iron Man's speech was pretty smooth but wasted. <trying not to post spoilers> Spider-Man 3, saw it twice, definitely not as good as 2 and wey below my own personal benchmark - Batman Begins Fantastic Four dey so promising I don watch the trailer tire but somehow the director doesn't give me much hope but make we see sha. You don peep Will Smith "I Am Legend"? It's looking good. How preps for Premiership in August as per you be big Gunner? ![]() P.S. How you? |
DMZ's on the mark and I tend to agree with him on several issues. Actually there are still lotsa games coming out on PS2. The Wii is probably like the Gamecube never be properly pirated but I hear Codemasters are working on a FreeLoader for it. There is a version of the Gamecube FreeLoader that makes the Wii region-free for Gamecube games. HDTV hasn't caught on because in many cases you really don't want to see what your favourite stars look like in HD. The level of detail can be very unflattering (pimples, freckles etc) but really for now it's all about price and Nintendo can always release a HD version of the Wii and call it Wii-Lite or Wii-HD or something, LOL ![]() Much Love |
@ Viera. Where/how've you been? World War Hulk? I saw a preview with Hulk going to see the Inhumans/Black Bolt. Guy, I pity Reed/Tony when Bruce Banner reaches them. The 52 arc with Black Adam and World War III was pretty cool, did you get to read up on that? Holla back. |
Well. Where are we now? Ken Kutaragi just resigned/got fired. Sony needs to cut jobs. Blu-Ray has picked up but the PS3 hasn't. XBox360/XBox/Microsoft Game Division is bleeding billions but XBox Live is the final word in online console gaming. Nintendo profits jump 77% Almost 6m Wiis sold in 5 months We are UNITED!! For this generation I vote Nintendo 40% market share; Microsoft and Sony will pick the remaining in whatever ratio they can, whatever happens sha profit will never elude the House of 'Tendo! Peace! |
The last part of Marvel's Civil War (part 7 of 7) is out now. |
Hola! I own a Wii. Until you play it, I think you should just not comment on tiredness et al. I remember when this thread started. It was all about how Nintendo was gonna get creamed etc, now a few months on and Wii's are platinumised and can't even be found to buy. Say what you will, Nintendo read the market right since the DS and have managed to ensure that they'll not only stay above water but also pull ahead and aim for 1st place. The 360 is everything Sega could ever wish the Dreamcast was and like I predicted Sony dropped the ball, shot themselves in the foot and want the consumer to apologise for their pain. Going toe-toe with Microsoft's war-chest was very ill-advised and they should have focused on what made them top dog in 2 successive gaming generations. I personally think the 2-tier model is wrong and generates beef. Make one PS3, price it at $550 (mid-point price) and concentrate on making games and let Blu-Ray swim with the sharks. Tying the success of the console to the DVD format was too big a gamble. So once again in response to the thread topic, I say: "I declare for the Wii!" |
Nintendo's Wii = 30k (American model though) |

I haven't read a post here that didn't have a valid basis. So kudos to everyone for sharing. I see all this differently. I believe it's more of a "let me be the last to get to be corrupt" scenario. Obasanjo for all his good intentions and works is/has been as corrupt as all the leaders before him. In trying to "clean up", he has managed to enrich himself and his allies for the rest of their lives and ensured that even his descendants are set up for life. So even if corruption ends today, "Hey! At least they are rich already" ba? Has he done a lot of things right? "Resoundingly, yes"; has he ensured that the gap between rich and poor has been widened? Another "Yes!". If his third term agenda had worked, we would not be having this discussion here and now, would we? As for Buhari vs Yar'Adua- In the era where most world governments are distancing themselves from corporate rule/control/influences, Obasanjo gathers the "Industry Leaders"in business to seek "endorsement" for the "flag-bearer". That scares me I didn't give Buhari the chance of the benefit of doubt until I saw his interview with Ladi on Channels TV. It caused me to reboot my notion of him as a mindless soldier-drone. His accent was thick but his wit and acumen weren't. He faced up to the decrees and even the draconian nature of his government and the answers he gave made me re-evaluate my picture of him. He pointed out certain things that successive administrations failed at like monetary policies and debt et al. I don't know how many people got to see this Interview but I assure you it's worth seeing. Another point that I must raise is this; I'm sorry but I have a mental picture of a 'presidential" mein/mettle and Yar'Adua has yet to show or prove he has it. He is a gentleman and it shows but sadly I fear that Nigeria is not ready for kid-gloves. I happen to be born in a generation that didn't see the Civil War, didn't attend schools for free, had to struggle to get a job and the only time I saw indiscipline/corruption being tackled was during the Buhari years so you'll have to forgive me if I am a little nostalgic for a feeling of order even if it comes at the expense of a few tears. One thing we forget is that we are borrowing today from our children. If our parents generation saw a better world as they keep telling us and have been unable to replicate it for us, then we must find a way to force it for our descendants sake. I admire Singapore and a few other Asian countries for their sense of honour and orderliness, these things we lack in Nigeria. The question I ask myself is if Buhari/Idiagbon had stayed longer, would they have fallen prey to corruption and power-drunkeness? That we will never know but we know one thing, for once in a very long time we have another shot at altering the course Nigeria is taking and if we fail, if an animal waddles like a duck, quacks like a duck and swims like a duck, I don't care if it looks like a rabbit, I call it a duck! |
Virgins have choices, that seems to be the beef people who aren't have with them. They can choose to remain virgins or let go of it. I think it may be overrated as a benchmark to define a person but it is definitely the single greatest gift one human being can give another in terms of sexuality. Is it a standard? Nope, it just is something that is giveable only once and some people have it to give and others don't. So I hail the still virgins, the re-virgins and even the celibate ones out there. It's your choice, you get to use it only once. Much Luv & Peace! |
Nintendo listens to it's critics, leans back, closes it's eyes and gently hums "What A Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong ![]() |
@ Viera, Happy New Year bro! I bin enter Jand then spent too much time at work so I never enter here since last year. Shey you're good ba? Sorry about the 15 point gap in the Premiership. ![]() Now that the Civil War is almost up, any thoughts? |
Chiwetel is just paying dues and so far he's making all the right moves - from "Amistad", "Dirty Pretty Things" and "Inside Man" to "Serenity" he's busy gathering cred, he'll get a chance to grab awards soon enough. Hollywood get formula now, you either die in your film or act crazy in a small indie/little seen role. I see Helen Mirren, Forest Whitaker and "Cars" winning. Eddie, Babel and Pan's Labyrinth might win compensatory awards. What's Marky Mark doing getting nominated?! Scorcese's The Departed is really good but I prefer the original Mou Gan Dou (Infernal Affairs); though you have to respect the way he remade the movie and totally made it his own. It's definitely not his best work sha. I was really surprised that Jack Nicholson, "Thank You for Smoking" and the guy playing Nick Naylor, "Akeelah & the Bee", "The New World" were not nominated, oh well, "Jack, it's Chinatown" ![]() |
@ Viera Amazing Spider-Man 535 is where you want to be at!!! How was your trip? |
@ Viera - You don read Civil War 4? See Reed's pain starting and Spiderman's doubts? |
1- Tetris/Legend of Zelda/Streetfighter II 4- Resident Evil 4 5- Super Mario All-Stars 5- Rival Schools [1 & 2] 7- Starcraft 8- Super Mario 64 9- Columns 10- Shinobi III |
So glad I missed the simulated flames. ![]() @Neo, hold unto your dreams and start saving, I for one don't believe in paying too much money for anything that will eventually break or fall in price. Sony's problem as I see it is that they are coming into this round of a high and it's gotten to them. After they blasted the 360/Microsoft for their 2-ier pricing dem for just release one console and $550 and let everybody who can buy it buy. It'da even tempted me but I guess they are still developing a business model for incremental prices/payments. Microsoft will lose as much as it takes to take down Sony plain and simp. Now they're thinking handheld? Oh yeah! Bring it on! They are fighting a battle on 3 fronts. Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD, PSP vs DS/iPod and PS3 vs. 360/Wii/PC. To do that they shoulda taken them on sequentially and not as if the they were invulnerable; they should remember what happened to Nintendo an learn. Nintendo had to sacrifice it's home console to concentrate on it's handhelds just to fend of Sony's killer PSP push, even the DS was supposed to be a stop-gap/third pillar before the next gameboy but that's all over now. |
Guys sorry I'm just replying, it took a while to get over my extreme old age. ![]() @ Neoteny, I get, but the symbiote was pure black not webby. It was seamless and smooth not just a black variant of his normal blue and red. @ Viera. Luke Cage dey display levels. I dey gbadun the guy die! Iron Man's really deluded but it's Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic I see suffering the most. Spiderman will definitely move to Captain America's side, you just watch/read and see. Poor Speedball. Namor was always an idiot but he is principled sha, he should have left Wolverine to extract the info from Nitro. In 52, Ralph Dibny is royally messed up. Batman seems to be coming back from the dark side a bit but Robin is definitely headed there. Did you follos the Red Hood Saga? |
When casual Nintendo makes more money that Sony Corp combined divisions, it kinda puts things in perspective. Somehow I think dividing gamers into hardcore and casual is pointless. I think it works more as a financial categorization more than anything. Most peopls own or have access to more than one console anyway. Funny how the "mature" games on Nintendo consoles send MS and Sony to the sack. Eternal Darkness & Resident Evil 4 anyone? |
@ Vieira: Hola I saw the Spider Man III trailer too. Kinda reminds me of the mood/direction and tempo employed by Christopher Nolan for Batman Begins. I expect it to be good sha but somehow I'm skeptical; the symbiote does look a little too glossy and the Venom suit seems to just be a normal Spider Man suit but in black and a larger spider logo. I have high hopes for the Dark Knight but somehow I doubt that Heath can ever top JAAAAACK! How'd you like the tone the Civil War in Marvel is taking? |
Hmm! |
Wonder Woman took the only action necessary for her to take and I support her decision. @Viera Nope! Haven't gotten around to Miracleman yet but I just got Sandman but I haven't had the time to take it all in yet. Spiderman will definitely regret it, I'm so predicting that! The "core" 52 is much fun but when you view it in the light of the adjacent titles [Nightwing, Birds of Prey, Batman et al and Superman, ] It really makes good reading. Black Adam is about to feel some pain soon especially over Isis. I loved the Ultimates too and the New Avengers but the Civil War will overrun all that soon. |
Is anybody catching all the Wii hype? Sony's got the most to lose now! [evil laughter] |
