Most developed worlds don't do programs like NYSC which have no or little impact on the economy.
The US unemployment rate stands at 3.1%, what the government does majorly is provide grants and create entrepreneurship institutions like Silicon Valley. Elon Musk got a grant from the government to start Space X, Meta, Google, and Microsoft are all products of Silicon Valley.

Nigeria's unemployment rate stands at 53% among the youth and 90% of Nigerian graduates go to NYSC programs. The funniest thing is that it's not the US government that is creating the employment directly, the employment is being created by those who went through the grants & funding series, and Silicon Valley.
My opinions are
1 NYSC should be replaced with compulsory 6 months of entrepreneurship programs in major areas of the economy.
2 Every successful candidate should be given a noninterest loan of 5M each to start a venture.
3 Candidates who failed the programs should go for mandatory skill acquisition for 6 months. The government should give them the necessary equipment they need for their trade and a 1M noninterest loan. (e. g. , a trained fashion designer should be provided with a sewing machine, a weepy machine, and a 1M loan)

You are consoling yourself and how did you know that I went to NYSC to Bleep. Nigeria unemployment rate among the youth is currently at 53% rate of which 70% of Nigerian youth went for NYSC. Do the maths man, FYI I am a data and AI engineer doing well for myself and inspiring others home and abroad. We are not talking of your type of employer that pays below the minimum wage. Who among the developed nations in the world is into the wasteful NYSC type of programs . Google, Meta and the silicon valley tech startups emerge from productive education program and government grants. The US was able to achieve 97.1% of employment rate because of its entrepreneurship programs not NYSC or any form of jamboree. NYSC as outlive its usefulness

NYSC should be scrapped , it contributes nothing to the economy it's just an avenue to loot and f*ck anyhow.
NYSC should replaced be with
1 3 months of compulsory military training which will empower every citizen to be self-defensive (bandits, UGM, robbers, kidnappers and all criminals will think twice before attacking anyone. ).
2 3 compulsory months of entrepreneurship training in major areas of the economy which empower graduates to be self-employed.
Then the government will give all participants a non-interest loan of 2M to start a venture (this will distratically reduce the unemployment rate in Nigeria and increase our IGR) because the government spends more than 2M on each corp member with no tangible returns as we speak. Counterproductive programs like NYSC are one of the reasons why productivity has declined in Nigeria

If this had been fully implemented Naira wouldn't be in a free fall against the USD, and the Naira would have competed favorably with CNY because China consumes more of our raw materials and we could have earned more Yuan from Palm Oil, Cassava and iron ore.
