Following her emergence as the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 11, Show Ya Sef, Temi Nkem has opened up on the strategy that helped her emerge as the winner of the reality show.

The 21-year-old, whose real name is Temitope Chigbue, said her approach throughout the competition was to remain true to herself while navigating the realities of the game.

In this interview with The Entertainment Reporter, Temi also discusses her plans for her ₦90 million cash prize, completing her university education, her decision to remain in Nigeria and her plans for life after BBNaija.

You have just won BBNaija and a major cash prize. What do you plan to do with the money?

I will be investing a very big sum of my money. Everybody knows I studied Accounting and Finance. I also took an extra degree in Treasury, so I know how to work with my money.
I’m Igbo, so I’m going to get my money to grow. I’m going to invest it, and at the same time, I’m going to invest it in my future as well.
I’m also going to give some to my parents, and obviously, I’m going to spend some on myself. I need a little treat for myself. I need a holiday, a few holidays.

You mentioned investing in your future. What does that look like for you?

I’m going to complete my university education.My university education is in the UK, but I can do it online. I’m going to stay here for a minimum of two years. I want to see what Nigeria has for me, see what Africa has for me and build on that.The sky is the limit, isn’t it?
Coming into the show, did you actually believe you could win?
Honestly, I thought I wouldn’t win.Coming into the show, people were telling me that people who come from abroad don’t really win and that I might not have a chance.
So that actually dawned on me. I thought, you know what? I might as well have my fun.
The show was called Show Ya Sef, so I might as well still show myself. That’s what I did. And guess what? I still won.


Looking back at your time in the BBNaija house, what would you say was your strategy?

My strategy was to be myself. I just tried to be myself.I know what I’m going to do, so I’m going to do what I’m going to do. I don’t want to say too much and underdeliver.

Are Bimbo Ademoye and Timini Egbuson dating? Honestly, I don’t know.

And that may not even be the interesting question.

What is clear is that audiences enjoy seeing the two actors together.

In recent years, Bimbo and Timini have appeared together in films including Big Love, Breaded Life, Homecoming and, most recently, My 30th Wedding. While the stories and characters may differ, one thing remains familiar: the pairing.

And audiences appear to have responded to it.

This isn't an entirely new phenomenon in Nollywood. Certain actor pairings simply work. Think Rita Dominic and Jim Iyke, or Bambam and Uzor Arukwe. Sometimes two performers develop an on-screen chemistry that audiences enjoy enough to make their next collaboration interesting.

Bimbo and Timini appear to have found that sweet spot.

The bigger lesson, however, goes beyond Nollywood.

Creators and brands can learn a lot from how they are leveraging an existing audience interest.

1. Make more of what works

When something works, don't be too quick to retire it.

Creators sometimes assume that repeating a successful formula means they are being predictable. But familiarity can actually be an asset when audiences already enjoy what you're offering.

Bimbo and Timini have continued to find opportunities to work together across different projects.

The films change. The characters change. The stories change.

But the chemistry remains part of the attraction.

The same principle applies to creators and brands.

If a particular format, product, collaboration or idea consistently connects with your audience, there is nothing wrong with building another opportunity around it.

The question isn't always, “What can I do that is completely new?”

Sometimes it is:

“How can I create something new from what is already working?”

2. Identify your winning formula

Don't ghost your winning formula.

Creators do this all the time.

Something starts working. The audience responds. Engagement increases. Then the creator gets bored and decides to change direction.

But your boredom isn't necessarily your audience's boredom.

Your winning formula could be your humour. It could be your storytelling, your interviews, your analysis, your visual style or even a particular type of collaboration.

The important thing is to recognise what people consistently respond to.

Bimbo and Timini have chemistry.

Another creator may have an exceptional storytelling ability.

Another may have a distinctive sense of humour.

Another may have built an audience around explaining complicated ideas simply.

The mistake is abandoning what works simply because you're tired of doing it.

Don't abandon what is working for what you wish was working.

Nigerian dancer, content creator and brand influencer Afroblueries has shared how a single viral dance challenge transformed her passion into a thriving career, revealing that the success of one video opened the door to brand partnerships and convinced her that content creation could become a full-time profession.

Perhaps the best way to describe Bimbo Ademoye’s creative journey with Sibe is through a word that doesn’t exist—yet.

Sibenization.

The process by which a character becomes so deeply connected to an actor, an audience and a culture that it begins to take on a life of its own.

In December 2022, Bimbo Ademoye introduced Nigerians to Sibe through a web series on her YouTube channel. With Adewale Elesho as Baba Sibe—whom Sibe affectionately calls Baba Olóde—Uzor Arukwe as Bobo, and Bimbo herself in the titular role, the series quickly won audiences over with its witty humour, memorable characters and relatable storytelling. Nearly three years later, that demand culminated in Sibe The Movie. As of the time of writing, the film had recorded 5.5 million views in just two days—an impressive feat that reflects more than strong marketing or star power.

It reflects audience loyalty.

But the most interesting part of the Sibe story isn’t the movie itself.

It’s what came before it.

Before there was a movie, there was a character.

Before there was the possibility of a franchise, there was an audience.

That is where the Sibe story becomes bigger than entertainment.

For Chukwuka Adigwu, known professionally as Papumatic, producing Efewarriboy’s comedy special ‘As I Was Saying’ in 2021 looked like just another gig. Those who know his story would think differently, the show was more. It was a strong indication of a man’s mission to create structures for the creative economy to grow through talent showcases and community engagement.

Papumatic could not close his eyes to the bottlenecks impeding the growth of young creatives. Moving from the sidelines to the frontline as an emerging production manager, he saw firsthand too many Nigerian creatives barred from opportunities to showcase their talents, connect with audiences and build brand visibility.

“As a young Talent Manager,” Papumatic disclosed, “I grew up as a big fan of some of the most popular talents in Nigeria watching their rise from the sidelines. It has always fascinated me.”

According to him, “At the same time, I have witnessed the frustration faced by aspiring talents due to limited access. It’s a hopeless situation seeing some of them give up their art to make ends meet with menial jobs that can put food on their table. This was when I knew that I can be a part of the solution, one project at a time.”

The story of the struggles faced by young talents in Nigeria is changing thanks to the likes of Papumatic and others before him, such as the Makun brothers, Lanre and AY, Darey and Deeola Art Alade, Cecil Hammond, Opa Williams, Bunmi Davies, and Edi Lawanis.

Like it was for several creatives around the world, the dynamics of the industry change following the Covid-19 shutdown. In 2021, Earning a scholarship to EbonyLife Creative Academy in 2021 would provide an inroad for personal skills development and project execution from the masters of the game led by the founders Linus Idahosa and Stephanie Linus.

After learning the ropes, later the same year he would produce Efewarriboy’s comedy special ‘As I Was Saying’ at Terra Kulture, Lagos, a live theatre hub out of the city. The show was among the first major live theatre events staged post-pandemic drawing over 400 attendees and featuring a special performance by Grammy nominee Seun Kuti. The success of the show was heralded by the media signaling the arrival of a brilliant production talent.

This experience set the tone for his next gig - Odogwu’s stand-up classic ‘I’m Out of My Mind’, also at Terra Kulture. Serving as the Artistic Producer of the show which saddles him with a responsibility to dictate the creative direction and curate the audience experience. Taking it a notch higher the following year in 2022, he took Efewarriboy to Abuja for ‘I’m Finally Famous’ at the prestigious Transcorp Hilton. The event attracted a cross-section of guests including the city’s nouveau riche and creme de la creme of the country’s seat of power thus stamping his name among the pantheons of live entertainment and event production dons.

Between 2023 and 2024, Papumatic shifted focus to talent discovery and grooming. He partnered with Ekene Smith foundation to initiate community-based comedy competitions across different stages on the Lagos Mainland and Island.

A plus-size model, actress and content creator Monalisa Stephen is dead.

Entertainment Reporter gathered that she died in Lagos on Tuesday after battling low blood sugar and internal bleeding.
The news of her death was announced on Wednesday by the chief executive officer of Best of Nollywood (BON), Seun Oloketuyi, on Instagram.

The Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has officially resolved its prolonged leadership crisis, merging its once-divided executive bodies under one unified structure.

The breakthrough came after a reconciliation meeting at the PMAN National Secretariat in Lekki, Lagos, following a court ruling affirming Chief Fruitful Mekwunye as National President.


In a show of maturity, Mekwunye extended a peace offer to the faction led by music star Sunny Neji, who in turn accepted the court’s decision and joined forces for the greater good of the industry.
“This is not about positions—it’s about progress,” Chief Mekwunye said. Neji, now PMAN’s 1st Vice President, added, “We’ve laid down pride and picked up purpose.”

Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has faced criticisms for allegedly plagiarizing a post by media strategist and women’s advocate, Esther Ijewere.

The controversy arose when Ijewere discovered that Amusa had reportedly copied and reposted her heartfelt message about singer Asake without crediting her as the original author.

On March 14, Esther Ijewere had shared a deeply personal opinion on Asake’s childhood struggles and the emotional impact of parental rejection. The post quickly resonated with many readers.
However, by the following day, Amusa had posted an identical version on her Facebook and Instagram pages, omitting any mention of Ijewere as the original writer.

On March 15, Ijewere publicly addressed the situation: “Dear Dayo Amusa, You took my post from my Facebook page and shared it as your own on Facebook and Instagram without giving me proper credit. Please do the right thing and acknowledge my work. It’s important to respect and credit the original creator.”

The National Working Committee of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has announced that Pretty Okafor remains suspended President till after investigations.

In a statement made available to Entertainment Reporter on Wednesday , PMAN said the public should disregard the false news that the National Executive Committee(NEC) has reversed the suspension of Mr. Pretty Okafor.

According to the group, a NEC meeting can only be convened by the current Acting President, Sunny Neji and the General Secretary, Boniface Itodo.It said both Executives have no knowledge of the purported NEC meeting.

The statement read in part: “Please note that a NEC meeting can only be convened by the current Acting President, SUNNY NEJI and the General Secretary, both Executives have no knowledge of the purported NEC meeting.
We wish to clarify that the NWC has not convened any NEC meeting to discuss or determine any further actions regarding Mr. Pretty Okafor's suspension. The suspension remains in effect indefinitely.

It has also come to our attention that on Sunday morning, 25th August 2024, Mr. Pretty Okafor committed a grave violation of the Law by orchestrating a break-in at the PMAN Secretariat.

A Lagos State based socialite, Farida Abdulkabir, has explained why she wanted to jump into a lagoon on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

Abdulkabir who is also the owner of House of Phreedah cited frustrations, failed marriage and many others as what propelled her action on Thursday night.

In a viral voice note on social media, she said her N100 million marriage with another known Lagos socialite, Demola Okulaja, crashed after two months.

Abdulkabir was seen being appeased to desist from jumping in a viral video, while rescuers were assuring her there was no need to take her life but all would be well with her before she was whisked away into her vehicle and taken to an undisclosed destination.

Social commentator, Reno Omokri has said it will be unwise for singer Davido to listen to an atheist like Professor Wole Soyinka who is advising him not to apologize to Muslims who are offended by a music video of one his signees.



The Entertainment Reporter recalls that Davido bowed to pressure and deleted the music video snippet after being accused of disrespecting Islam by posting the video showing people praying and dancing in front of a mosque. In spite of this, some Muslims are still demanding for an apology from the singer.



Rising to defend Davido, Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka in a statement released, accused former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El Rufai of making derogatory comments against Christians in the past but was never asked to apologise. He also noted that it wasn’t Davido’s music that lynched Deborah Yakubu, a second-year Christian college student who was killed by a mob of Muslim students in Sokoto last year over alleged blasphemy. He averred that he sees no basis for Davido to apologize to Muslims.

Emmanuel Iren is the lead pastor of Celebration Church International with the mandate to raise a billion in ten thousand cities. This year, he released an album titled ‘Apostolos’ featuring Sinach, Judikay, E-Daniels and others.
