Duncan Mighty’s talent’s is not in doubt, however since Afro-pop took centre stage in the Nigerian music landscape in 2011 with the likes of Wizkid, Terry G and Wizkid ruling the airwaves, Duncan Mighty’s predictable genre of music was relegated to the background.

When asked about the inspiration behind the book, she said: ”I am a very private person but when you read this book, you read my truth, you read about my journey. Three years ago before my mum passed on, she was also an author and was aware of my unpublished book. She looked at me, held my hands and told me to tell my truth. I’m a very guarded person, my walls are up because life has thrown me so many curved balls; I brought down all my walls in this book, because the truth is we are on this earth to share and not just to take”.

In the course of the event, Ike said she made her first million at the age of 20, adding that acting that she has used her acting platform to open so many doors for herself.


“People talk about actresses and actors not being financially buoyant to have a certain lifestyle. Being an actor is a platform, when you are an actor you have series of good wills that comes into your life. I have always had an investment mentality. I made my first million at the age of 20".

Veteran Nollywood actor, Richard –Mofe Damijo clocks 57 today. The revered role interpreter has over the years become an icon to youngsters in the Nigerian entertainment scene.
RMD who was born 6th of July in 1961 in the little community of Aladja in Udu Kingdom, near Warri Delta State, attended Midwest College, Warri and Anglican Grammar School, before going to study Theatre Arts in the Ekenhuan Campus of the University of Benin.

Months back the award winning thespian had a chat with TheNewsGuru and we decided to revisit the five things the renowned actor shared in the interview.

1. Getting back into Nollywood
“The work I did was in the Culture and Tourism sector so it wasn’t too far removed from being an actor or being in the creative industry or being a TV producer or anything like that. The transition is seamless for me. It’s something I did for twenty something years before I went into government. It couldn’t have been that difficult to transit back to my core business”.

2. On old and new Nollywood
“I think the whole controversy or this whole debate is just making a mountain off a molehill. Every profession evolves and it seems instructional that the song I have been singing all day is ‘Alowo ma jaiye, eyin le mo, awon tan jaiye la na won ti ku, won ti lo’.
People come and go .Nollywood is old enough for people to have evolved. I have been in the entertainment industry, post-graduation for 32 years. So it is not a competition between me and somebody who graduated last year or somebody who graduated ten years ago. He comes in into a profession I have been working in. I met people in the profession.

So I can’t now be saying I am new Nollywood or I am old Nollywood. What we should be looking at now is this, whoever is coming now and calls himself a particular name, what is he/she bringing to the table? Is the person bringing something to the table that is so completely different that it has revolutionized the entire industry?”
3. Working with Joke Silva
“Violated was an absolute delight. We were just starting out; Nollywood hasn’t had a romantic movie that was on the same level with Living in Bondage. So by the time Violated came in, it just cranked it up a bit. On stage, Joke has played my wife and we make magic everywhere we go. That is what we do, we are actors”.

Have you ever been told to offer sex in order to get a role?

Yes It has happened to me many times .I will rather pay money than offer my body to get a role. That was a long time ago. No one can try that with me anymore, because I am now a boss.



What will you love to change about Nollywood?

What I will love to change is the way some producers ask for sex from upcoming actors in exchange for a role and not paying for roles. Every worker deserves to be paid.

How did your acting career kick off?

My acting career started December 2016 while I was still serving in Benin city. I came across a broadcast message on WhatsApp regarding an online movie audition for the movie titled Agbedemeji, produced by Yomi Fabiyi which required two acting videos (1 minute soliloquy and 1 minute crying scene). I recorded my videos, sent them alongside my contact details to the email provided. I got a call after about a week that I have been picked for the role “Onikede” and the rest like they say is history.

It was unbelievable at first until I had to travel to Abeokuta for the movie shoot. I didn’t believe it was for real till I got on set . I was too happy and grateful to God and the producer

Tell us a little about yourself?

I am hail from Ekiti State, Ijero Ekiti to be precise. I was born on March 23rd . My primary and secondary school education was in Akure. I then proceeded to study English in UNAD(University of Ado Ekiti)Ado Ekiti. I graduated in 2015.







What have you done since the first acting gig?

I never thought about acting even though a lot of people advised me about it. I have always been a model. I have featured in over 15 movies and I have also produced 2 movies of my own . They are: “Dear Sister” and “Entrapped”



Were you paid for your first acting role?

I wasn’t paid for my first job, it was a great opportunity to find and develop that hidden talent inside me. I did it for the passion but now I’m enjoying the benefits.
