Ahead of the March 9th Lagos governorship poll, Nigerian celebrities have expressed their views on the forthcoming Lagos gubernatorial elections.
Back in 2015, Oba Rilwan Akiolu said Lagos residents of Igbo descent must vote for the then governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, or else die in the lagoon.
Since then, the Lagos governorship has been viewed as a battle between the ruling party in Lagos, APC, the igbos and other political parties. It has moved from being a political battle to becoming a tribal war.

I don’t see the Lagos Gubernatorial election as a tribal war. It’s simply a political battle. We all have people that we are supporting. I think it’s more of a political battle. If we were talking about the Presidential election where we had two major parties pushing northerners as their presidential candidates, we would have called that a tribal battle. The deal breaker was Osinbajo who is a Yoruba and Peter Obi who is an Igbo man.
That was the difference between the two political parties Presidential candidates coming from the same part of the country and the Vice Presidential candidates coming from other parts of the country. May be so many Igbos must have tilted towards PDP because of Peter Obi and that now spilled into the Lagos Gubernatorial election.
I feel that it has nothing to do with tribe this time. The major candidates are Yorubas. I am looking forward to the best man winning.

The Lagos election violence was a tribal war- Skuki Peeshaun
One half of singing collective, Skuki, Peeshaun expressed his opinion on the recent violence witnessed in some areas in Lagos during the presidential elections describing it as ‘more of a tribal war than a political battle’.
The singer took to twitter expressing his thoughts. He said: “This is not a political post or a tribalistic one. It’s an awareness post, so you know the motivation that the political thugs are being fed with.The violence we saw in LAGOS during the presi. I think the Presidential election was more of a TRIBAL WAR than a POLITICAL BATTLE. Delectable actress, Grace Amah has declared that she hasn’t given up on love, despite being a single parent.

The Lagos governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party, Babatunde Gbadamosi, has said he can appoint an Igbo man to his cabinet if he emerges the governor of Lagos State.

He stated that Lagos needs the best hands irrespective of tribal affiliations.



Gbadamosi who is also a real estate developer, made this known during an interview on Channels Tv ‘Politics Today’.

The ADP governorship candidate said:” I won’t lie to you and say I don’t see the bullion vans being deployed as a challenge. We had Asiwaju speak and saying igbos should vote for the APC or face the consequence.



There is a lot of chatter going on social media that a lot of Igbos were prevented from going about their business which is very ‘unLagosian ‘like. Lagos is home to all. Lagos is Lagos because we are very hospitable people. Real Lagosians know that the prosperity of the state relies on people’s abilities to do business.

Many Nigerians were shocked last Saturday when they woke up to the news that the general elections had been postponed.
TheNewGuru recalls that the Independent National Electoral in the early hours of the day when the presidential, Senate and House of Representatives membership elections were to hold, announced the postponement of the exercise by one week – a postponement from February 16 to February 23.


An array of Lagos residents told TheNewsGuru on Wednesday that the election postponement had destabilised them because it has clashed with their earlier schedules and made them lose money.


A photographer and digital media expert, Odunola Abayomi said she was supposed to have a couple of photo shoots, but the botched election has affected the shoots, adding that it has also affected her income.
“I was supposed to have a couple of photo shoots on the 26th of February but had to postpone some to the next Saturday because of the election. Now with the election postponement, those photo shoots will be affected; it has inadvertently affected my anticipated financial gains for these couple of weeks. We hope and pray that there won’t be a reoccurrence”.

Lamenting also, Mr Wale Sarumi, a sound engineer said it affected him immensely. He added that he was supposed to render his service at a wedding ceremony but the unexpected postponement affected his pay.
“It affected me because I was meant to render my service at a wedding ceremony. I had already budgeted how I intended to spend the money. We were also meant to have a job on the 23rd of February now the election postponement has affected it. It has also affected a loan I am meant to pay. It’s a sad situation”, he told TheNewsGuru.

Babatunde Omidina, known as Baba Suwe, is a successful comedian better known for his exploits in Yoruba home videos. Amazingly, he is still arguably the most popular Yoruba comedian of his time.
Amazingly, Baba Suwe who has made a career out of making people laugh hasn’t had so much to giggle about in recent times.

The Genesis

His travails began when On October 13, 2011, news of the actor’s arrest by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on suspicion of being in possession of hard drugs made the rounds on the internet which lead to a fierce legal battle of who was wrong and who was right.

The sad incident created a major dent on his reputation. TheNewsGuru recalls that Paul Obazele condemned the act condemned the act, describing it as “tarnishing and one that will not do the image of the industry any good.”
“We are disappointed, it’s annoying. I’m short of words, Baba Suwe is an icon and everybody looks up to him in the industry’, Paul Obazele said, while adding that “it is not good news at all.”

Baba Suwe later took the NDLEA to court, won and was awarded N25 million in compensation for the wrongful arrest. Sadly, he is yet to get the compensation eight years later.
The incident led to a decline in his career as he was hardly featured in movies. Comic actors like Mr Latin, Olaniyi Afonja (Sanyeri) Afeez Oyetoro (Saka) Ayanfe Adekunle (Monsuru) Tunde Usman (Okele) Adekola Tijani (Kamilu Kompo) Tayo Amokade (Ijebu) emerged on the scene making many pay less attention to the veteran comedian.

Accused of killing his ‘Omoladun’ his late wife in 2009

TheNewsGuru, TNG recalls that one of the greatest scandal that affected the career of Baba Suwe was allegations that he killed his late wife Monsurat Omidina (Omoladun) who was an actress during her lifetime.
Baba Suwe’s step daughter, Omolara Kareem brazenly accused her stepdad of having a hand in her mother’s death. She noted that he had brutally fought her mother the night before her death. However, Baba Suwe debunked the claim.
In an interview with Vanguard, he said: It has not been easy but life must go on. I believe whatever happens has been pre-ordained. Countless hopefuls on Friday gathered at D’Podium event centre venue of the Lagos BBNaija audition to fight for a chance to partake in the reality TV show.
As a result of the mammoth crowd that attended the Lagos audition who had gathered there as early as 6am on Friday morning. It was a day filled with accounts of fights, injuries and people at the verge of losing their lives.

Why did you decide to be part of BBNaija 2019 auditions?
I was convinced I could bring in a refreshing vibe to this year's show.When more than half of my social media community kept urging that I get into the house and give them some unique flavour of realistic entertainment,I knew my aspiration to participate was not just for me--but for the ones that believed in me too. I attended the Lagos audition.

Can you share some of the weird experiences you had?

Some even crossed his body and flicked more sand on his face,and a couple just stood around video capturing his shame without trying to help.


What is the current health state of some of the casualties?

He had fallen from the high fence while trying to scale,dislocated his right arm and had a near fatal seizure.I rallied some kind hearted Nigerians to help us get an ambulance,because I know what death looked like and the eyes I saw there were already one step out of this world.
Only 2 girls worked with me and another well built guy and eventually we hefted the dude into an Uber cab (after about 2 declined--for fear of the man dying in their cabs),and I directed the cab to Lagoon hospital on Balogun bus stop,Awolowo way.
In the critical case unit,we met another Big Brother Naija stampede victim.
Her flesh had been ripped open from her thigh to her abdomen and you could literally see the whites of her bone.
Buying an admission card in Lagoon hospitals is about N30,000 and a simple stitch on wound operation is N28,000!

A domestic worker and her plumber boyfriend have been apprehended and handed over to men of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), after preliminary investigations revealed that they were involved in alleged kidnap of 15-year-old Bella they intended to use for money rituals.

TheNewsGuru (TNG) gathered that the domestic worker known as Tope and her plumber boyfriend known as Sunday connived and allegedly kidnapped Bella on New Year Day.

17-year-old Tope agreed to connive with Sunday, 24, who is the family’s plumber, after he promised her marriage, TNG gathered.

Tope during questioning said: “Sunday, my boyfriend called me on phone on the 30th of December 2018, saying he wants to be rich and that he is tired of wallowing in poverty”.
