The fact they were pardoned doesn't mean it should be encouraged or others should also not be punished, stealing is stealing. It always starts from little things so yes even if you steal a pack of indomie, you should be punished.

Yes, currently to buy a pre-registered SIM is fraudulent and the NCC is doing it's bit with the network providers to stem a trend that had been in existence since way back in the late 2010 till about 4/5 years ago. This involves arrests and prosecution of sellers and buyers of pre-registered and activated SIMs.

However, there are people who own lines from the previous period who have irregular registration.
Now imagine what will happen to the millions of customers who did not register their SIMs themselves (sims bought already activated, OGA sim bought by driver, madams sim bought by house-help, student SIM dashed to him by his uncle, corporate lines given as gifts to VIPs and these lines have been in use for years, etc...)

The NCC and the network providers being customer focused set up processes to allow validated owners with genuine proof to get their lines registration updated and possibly restored if lost or damaged.
Then again, each providers requirement may slightly differ from the other but they are tailored around ownership verification checks and validation before approval for the lines registration to be regularized. (Infact service providers have been initiating request to subscribers for SIM registration update to customer lines that did not meet specific NCC standards for over 4 years now).

So sir, calm down and try to refrain from calling people names or using derogatory words before you fully digest the information being passed.

*Anyone that has a line that was not registered in their name and has been using this line should take necessary steps to update the registration, it gets a lot difficult if the line is lost but is still very possible to retrieve*

For retrieval of SIMs there are processes and policies that the service providers have put in place to help people who fall into this category to get their lines returned to them and the correct owners details updated. It varies from different network but involves what is called ownership verification and validation.
If the line is important to you make contact with the customer care unit of the operator to get the right guidance, some of the shop staff can be so dismissive as they do not want to be stressed

Unfortunately some idiooots will believe this rubbish you wrote here and continue buying registered line. Just so you know, buying an already registered line is illegal

If you've linked it to your NIN then the a earlier registration doesn't matter. Provide your NIN and retrieve your SIM. I guess your info should have been updated with your NIN.

He's not telling the truth, you can't link sim with details different from the registered name.

Since you're lucky you weren't arrested for trying to retrieve a line registered to another person, I think you should forget that line, buy a sim and go update your details wherever you have used the number.

Note:- if you try it in mtn major store in Lagos, you will be arrested.

Not that easy like that you need a police report and court order for that your best option is for the guy to plead with the customer.

Putting a lien is not same as restricting the account, a lien is more of putting it in negative balance to show he is owing, the bank doesn't need police report to do that as long as they have good evidence.
