Emmynator: Why is he fighting for a rerun? He was so sure, he won the last election, let him prove it. I am sure we won't waste money on conducting another election. I think that will be a different case as INEC refused granting access to election materials. The case disqualifying Tinubu is actually genuine but I doubt it will be granted. That of Shettima is what I don't know. |

The 1trillion made from the port last year was paid into federation account and shared among all the states, it’s not as if the FG is giving the state any special privilege for providing most revenue for the country apart from oil.
Onne port is now functional and ship are berthing there, carry your load and luggage to the port. Lagos will remain a Yoruba land.
Nonsense. Stop fighting with yourself. Lol. See how you are reacting with the sense of your livelihood being taken away from you. How is it that you want nonindigenes out of your Lagos but does not wish that they become less reliant on your Lagos? Na witch una be? That said, I honestly did not know that Lagos ports contributed such amount to Federation account. But it does not need to. I honestly know that the Federal Government has systematically clamped down on other sea ports in Nigeria using import duties and taxes to keep the Lagos port thriving. My Dad worked with Hull Blyth, my mum with NPA- any person that knows shipping will know them. So I know. |

There are other ports in Nigeria but many importers choose Lagos specifically for other reasons one is closeness to the target market You are always on the defensive. Did I blame Lagos for other ports not working? Or are you now scared that Lagos may lose its relevance if the narrative is bought? The Federal and state governments of areas close to the sea are to be held responsible. They should see building more ports as a priority. |

Do you see it as the crown jewel that should grace your crown? I don't get it. This wailing is getting too much. It's not about who lost but the fact that they were targeted for hate. I mean, you can vote for any fool to be your governor but you should not use Igbos as a tool in your campaign slurs. The Igbos are good travellers, almost nomadic and they settle wherever they find pasture. But that shouldn't be why they should be denied their civic rights. |

Theflint1: Nigeria should have more cities allowed and built to function like Lagos, as long as it's only Lagos that functions the way it does in Nigeria, these sort of things will not stop. Abundance kills strife. I totally agree with you. Lagos is what it is because of the sea port coupled with once being the nation's capital. There are several other points in the country where a sea port can be arranged. We can have more than 5 seaports in this country. This will reduce the pressure on Lagos. The fact is ordinarily, Lagos will not want such as it will take away over 40% of it's IGR. But then they asked for it, when they say it is not 'no man's land'. |

If in a state in your region, a gubernatorial candidate born of a northern mother, with no governance experience, was exposed to have ridiculed your tribe and fraternised with a deadly Arewa group in the past, now contesting to become a governor, won't you condemn and possibly vote against him as a true son of your father?
Be sincere to yourself, and if you lie may amadioha strike you to death. Those factors do not characterise GRV. But let's assume they did, to be honest I would not support such a candidate. But then the elections must be free, fair and credible. The use of tribal slurs to malign an individual is not democratic neither is the use of thugs to disenfranchise people from demonstration of their civic right. |

DissTroy: Let's be factual here. You should already know I don't do emotional reactions. There are lat least 20 local search results pages on Nairaland of arguments being about Lagos being a no man's land, for and against it. 20 pages multiplied by 30 comments per page is 600 instances of back-and-forths about the topic. Please verify here: https://www.nairaland.com/search?q=Lagos+no+man%27s+land&search=Search .
Local-search "Lagos no man's land" on Twitter and Facebook this minute, and you'd realize the proponents of that narrative are non-Yorubas from both the South South and South East. They happen to also form a significant part of Obi's support base as well as other candidates.
A relative few of such instances but it was repeated and re-echod over the years to get on the nerves. The extremists saw an opportunity but latched on to it. Maybe we should have done more to quell the narrative. Maybe we ignored it and let the few voices become sparks and little fires. The extremists fueled that fire for political gain but they didn't light it.
I don't do emotions. I do facts!
You do realize Obi, Tinubu and Atiku's supporters aren't monoethic support bases, right? They cut across. There are literally Yorubas on this thread who canvassed for Peter Obi more than Igbos, and on the wider social media.
Why do you ascribe my comment to being about Obidients? Man, I was "Obedient" if you'd call me that since 2018 and have posted my Nairaland comments backing up my claims - even when some where wishing ill of the man.
Don't make this about Obidients or the LP. This is about calling out erring people, even if they overlap as "my people".
You want the saner and Liberal Yorubas to call out the hateful tribalists? Then let's lead the way by calling out those amongst us who needlessly trigger people or fuel animosity with their disrespectful comments.
Again, two truths can exist:
- Anyone calling Lagos a no man's land or implicitly supporting it is a cretin, and; - Any halfwit tacitly supporting the violence in Lagos and the hateful targeting of tribes has a blôwjob date with drugged piranhas. Ok. If it is not about the elections then it's obviously clearly wrong. As you can see from my response, I don't even see the statement as sensible, and so did not expect anyone to accept it. However, it was a clear slur used against the LP supporters by APC thugs to discredit them from voting GRV. It was absolutely unnecessary and people on both sides fell for it. |

Actually it was the SC guy that destroyed most of Rochas projects including all his mumu roundabouts. To be fair, the SC guy improved on traffic control. But he is just not liked not trusted and he is not doing anything to correct that. As for the green cap guy, he is the most useless person anyone from Imo state will want to consider now. There was a reason no one protested when he was cheated out of his position. The guy did nothing as deputy speaker. Absolutely nothing. He just found himself as the winner of an election where there were no preferred choices. That was why it was easy for the SC guy to dethrone him without resistance. |

DissTroy: Accept it to begin with for peace and respect's sake. Calling Lagos a "No man's land" is a devious attempt at erasing the identities and heritage of its indigenes. A man is nothing without his identity. He feels less without his roots.
There's a reason Black Americans and other displaced blacks from world over spend a lot on genealogy just for the satisfaction of knowing they have a source.
Two truths can exist:
- You can condemn the violence in Lagos, and; - Outrightly condemn any attempts to erase the heritage of Lagos indigenes. Did people just wake up one morning and started declaring Lagos no man's land? Or did they do so because GRV was contesting under LP? We know that GRV is a Lagosian and Sanwo Olu is not. So why did the talk about Lagos being no man's land come up? It was because APC thugs declared that those who are not from Lagos have no right to vote. Hat they have no right to exercise their franchise because they are not thorough Lagosians. It was the same APC thugs that started using the language Lagos is not no man's land. So anybody blaming Obedients or LP supporters for the use of the language have actually fallen into the ethnocentric trap of the APC thugs unknowingly and many generally good Yoruba guys fell for it. No body is dragging the Oba of Lagos with the Yorubas. It just a tribal slur invented by the APC thugs to discredit GRV and cause ethnic attack on non Yorubas especially Igbos. Afterall the people that you are claiming are saying Lagos is no man's land actually supported the only true Lagosian in that election, while those claiming Lagos is not no man's land are fighting against the only true Lagosian in that election. |

KingTom: Na wa, Chai for a statue builder to be preferred to a road builder... mean say hopeless Hope fúck up no be here Rochas did well in his first tenure. Very well. But the people didn't want him for second tenure because of most people then were of the opinion that he was not a technocrat, he didn't follow due process, and they didn't trust his source of wealth. They saw him as a political 419 and his defection to APC from APGA, he did so by sacking his deputy who was the reason he got the APGA ticket. But he did quite well to be honest. His second tenure he won through rigging I can say and the inability of PDP to keep their house together, he punished the state with the most terrible government ever experienced. Imo people then rejected him and his anointed successor who happened to be his son in law. They also resisted him but there were no preferred candidate which gave the APC room to manipulate things. And then the Supreme Court happened. So it was not like Hope was chosen, he was more like imposed. He didn't even campaign. Most people didn't even know he was contesting until the case started going to court. Truly Hope would not stand a chance if he competed with any person. I summary apart from Udenwa and Rochas first tenure, Imo state has never elected their governor since 1999. |
