Jodera: Who is even thinking of that??
Is it that people don't realise that *backups* are very very important and that it's dangerous to put all your eggs in one basket?
And also, who do they think will drop out for Nketiah. Saka abi Martinelli? Lol Apart from the Man United game Saka has not turned up (we lost). While Nketiah has been showing strong performances off the bench and even in Europa with goal and assist. While I don't support the change as it will affect us long term, I see reasons why the call was made. |

donstan18: Ojukwu directly misled millions of Igbos and got them killed for selfish reasons. Ran away with non of his family getting harmed. Came back to contest for presidential seat of the same Nigeria.
Knowing this and coupled with the fact that you’ve not personally called Ojukwu out before, why do you think you’re qualified to blame Queen Eliza whom you can’t evidently convince us that she had a hand in the killing of igbos? There's evidence that the civil war was partly sponsored by Britian in favour of Nigeria despite news that a genocide was going on. Who is the head of state of Britian? The Queen. So if I choose not to celebrate her death, I am within my right of dissatisfaction. I hope you get my point because I can't be repeating myself. |

donstan18: Kindly educate us on research you made, staying in SE. Some of us here are well grounded in SE matters.
I mean the research that justifies blaming Queen Eliza for Biafra war instead of Ojukwu that misled Igbos, got them massacred, killed and butchered while running away after millions of Igbos got killed without any member of his family getting killed. No one is being absolved here. They are all responsible for the deaths of millions. The British monarch had their interest as much as Ojukwu, Gowon and others. So if someone mentions the queen at this time she's in the spotlight it doesn't mean other aren't involved too. Trying to absolve the queen out of 'evil sympathy' because she just died is injustice to those who her actions and inactions also led to their untimely and painful deaths. This here is just the recent, the history of black Africa is painted with the evil and inhuman activities sponsored by the British monarchy which she derived her satisfaction, fame and fortune. So if any one linked to black Africa decides not to show love to her, that person is within his or her right to express dissatisfaction. |

I just hope Arteta won't start him In our match against PSV I think Marquinhos will start while Saka will come from bench. He was very direct and hardly loses the ball and got good positioning, making himself available for a pass or to score. He has pace and most importantly the sense to know when to take on his man and when to cross. Saka should watch his back. |

Jodera: The way you dey shield this guy, someone will think he's the first to be played out of position. But that's not even the one that is funny. What is funny is how you used throughout last season to hype Lokonga that he can play Partey's role and can play it effectively. Now this season, the same Lokonga that can play Partey's role and he's the closest person to play that lone base 6 is now being "played out of position" by you . Aren't you funny spy
Talking about playing out of position. Saka was never a Lb right from academy , but he played that place effectively for us that most people mistook him for Lb. Nobody was saying "he wasn't a Lb, he isn't this" because he put in the work to make himself capable. Even Smith Rowe that was played out of position last season playing wing didn't need this kind of shielding. But all of us should keep quiet and clap for Sambi just because he's playing out position shebi?
And like I said, nobody hates Sambi. We just don't want him playing that base 6 cos he normally cost us games playing there. We can't be shielding him and his performances while our 3points go dey go AWOL.
And I can see you just use plenty English yet you couldn't prove that I blamed Sambi for the 3rd goal. That one dey by the way sha.
I just hope Partey recovers fully and stay fit while we get a good DM in January. So that All these our talks about Sambi go cease hopefully You guys were acting like I was defending his errors which I didn't. Neither was I claiming that he played well. I even accused him of trying to impress and so messed up. I accused him of foraying too forward and exposing the midfield when there weren't any covers. What I didn't do was to put the blame on anyone unlike you and a few others. Players make mistakes every game. What I was looking at was the team set up after 1-1. Even Arteta himself acknowledged that the game wasn't handled well as we were dominating. What I said was we should have sat back a bit and patiently cut United apart into pieces. We lost a game we dominated not because of the players errors but the way the game was managed. Even the substitutions were hasty. When the players were pushing high, the manager should have called everyone to order and position. Asking them to balance and spread out. That's why he is on the touch line. In summary, errors were made, but that's the small picture. The big picture was bad game management. That's on Arteta. Let this one slide. |

daveP: Spy is shielding Sambi. Arsenal Legends aren't. Isokay.
Ian talked about positional discipline lacking in the game, esp from Odegaard. If he highlighted that, do the maths. He said it was part of what Arteta has always hammered from last season but the players are yet to fully incorporate that in their skulls.
The Manchester Midfield were positionally disciplined, save for Scott that kept drifting off. Eriksen marked Odegaard wella. Odegaard didn't return the favor despite it looking like the idea was 1-1.
We can't keep shielding a player's mistakes every matchdsy till week 38 if we want to be in that revered top 4. Infact we've done this criticism for almost all players of this squad. Why is Sambi's own now diff? Abi he had a great game? He executed the gameplan well? Shielding his mistakes? No. Shielding him? Yes. Why? Because it's the right thing to do. All those pundits say all the rubbish they could, but when given the opportunity to coach they were all messed up like an toddler's ice-cream. If fans attack him, he will get demoralised and lose form entirely. The loser? Arsenal Football Club. But if we encourage him, like the good fans at the Emirates did to Gabriel and Saliba when they scored own goals, the player is motivated to do better and score real goals. |

And there are connotative meanings to words used to portray an idea or opinion. After blaming him for the first and second goals (which were not solely his fault) yet you still looked for a way to hook him to the fault for the third goal by making him responsible for the coach's misjudgement. That's clearly agenda against him. But what you guys won't see is that he is being played out of position and trusted with a huge responsibility to fill Partey's shoes. Jodera: Point me where I accused Sambi for the 3rd goal. I specifically talked about the first and second goal mostly while I solely blamed Arteta for his stupidity of his Panick sub for the 3rd goal cos it disrupted the structure and it was as if there was no plan.
Where you see me blame Sambi for the 3rd goal, bring am make I see Here is your post and check the bolded. You indirectly blamed Sambi for Arteta's error substitutions Nor be so? Jodera: If you notice after the first 8-10 mins of the game when Man u was in control, arsenal did collective defending till we were able to get ourselves, regain possession and dominate proceedings. From then on the press was too much as immediately man u win the ball, we'll so press them(hats out to our front 3) that they'll punt the ball upfield looking for either Rashford or Antony but our defence always deal with it cleanly. All these while we were playing highline oo.
It was going well until Ten Haag spotted a weak spot (the DM zone) which I'll outline in pointers.
1.. The first goal — Man u regains possession, arsenal pressed, instead of punting it long as they normally do for fear of mistake, Eriksen drifted wide and the pass was made to him. Bruno quickly ran into the DM zone (zone between the last Midfield to our defence) which was already free as Sambi was no where to be found. Eriksen one time ball to Bruno and we have 3 against 3 Bruno Sancho and Rashford against White, Gabriel and Saliba. Gabriel engaged Bruno, fouled him in order to prevent any attack from becoming serious but the ball unfortunately fell to Sancho who did a one time pass to Rashford. Zinchenko now back covered up for Gabriel which made Antony free because he made a late run into the box and the goal happened. DM exposed which Bruno capitalised on the zone.
2.. The 2nd goal.— arsenal was on the ascendency. Lokonga lost the ball high up the pitch, immediately, Bruno again ran into that pocket of space again(the DM zone) and laid a fine through pass for Rashford to run into.
As for the 3rd goal sef, I no even understand the tactics as I felt Arteta undid his nice tactics with that 3 subs at once. He panicked!!!!. It's also surprising we didn't move to 352 as we did against Fulham probably because Arteta didn't trust Sambi to be positionally aware defensively to screen the defence when Man u would want to counter attack as we would be more exposed compared to our 433.
Ten Haag found the space to exploit us and it worked well(running into that DM zone). I just hope other teams to find out this template and use it against us but I won't bet against it. Everton match would be an eye to keep on

Shegzdave: Of course he’ll play cause there’s no alternative... You think if Arsenal has gotten Douglaz Luiz, Lokonga will start our matches? That’s to show you Arteta had no choice than to use him.. Arteta's original plan for Lokonga is as an 8 on the left side. That's where he went to and lost possession. He is being used as a make shift no 6 and that's the more reason he needs to be protected and guided. Not these unecessary sticks |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 6:05pm On Sep 05, 2022 |
Jodera: they only become inverted if the other fullback attacks. Meaning if Zinchenko attacks, White will become inverted and otherwise. Both don't become inverted at the same time.
Aside that, there's an understanding between Zinchenko, Xhaka and Martinelli but it's lacking with Odegaard, Saka and White. In fact, there's less exchanges between White and Saka. I know how many exchanges Tomi made when he came on for White against Aston Villa.
I would never believe White plays that role more than Tomi until I sees it. Everyone knows Arteta loves White and na one of the few reasons he's benching Tomi. Personally I prefer Tomi. But the reason for playing White is that tactical switch just as you have mentioned. If Tomi plays then Xhaka will be restricted pushing forward. The attack will now be on the RW. This can actually be an option in the second half subs. I saw a little of it among Saka, Vieira and Tomi against Man You |

Jodera: Lol, I don even forget tottenham sef. Kane go us us do shege if Lokonga play that DM role. Ordinarily, na wetin him dey do sef
As for that 1st goal, I was surprised. I mean, Antony have already adjusted his body that he wanted to place it at the far corner yet Ramsdale still dive the other way. Maybe it's just a normal reflex a GK always undergo, who knows(easier said than done right)? But then, I won't blame him for any of the goals. It's easier for the players to score that than for Ramsdale to save those ball
Ramsdale wasn't shaky sha, aside from that error, he was good.
I think the defence was all over the place ystdy especially as we paraded a weak DM against a good runners and passers of the ball. The defence was really exposed ystdy Tbh.
Lastly, Our best bet is Tomiyasu. What we were missing ystdy in attack showed as White no be am. He'll give us that stretch we need and he has that understanding with Saka. And yes, Zinchenko was partly exposed, the defensive securities of Tierney wouldn't have made that happen. Let me explain to you why White is preferred. In the tactics, the fullbacks become inverted during attacking phase. This allows one of the CMs (Xhaka) to push forward into the no 8position on the opposite flank to add more bodies, create an overload and also add to the press when the ball is lost. Zinchenko does this also on the other side. White is better at this than Tomiyasu. |

Spy360 If I ask you what Lokonga would have done to prevent the goals what would be your answer? You should have included that in your analysis. Look it's easy to find fault. For the records, the first goal was on Zinchenko and Gabriel- Gab should have stayed his ground and not launch forward exposing himself, Zinchenko should have marked his man but left him to cover Gabriel who has exposed the defense. That first goal was a team error not in any particular player. The second goal also was a team error because the structure was wrong. They should have sat back in a double pivot of Lokonga and Xhaka but both forayed and exposed the defense the moment the ball was lost. Lokonga losing the ball is not the problem, but that the positional structure was wrong. That one is on the manager for me. The third was bound to happen after the manager also sent forward players in an attempt to rescue the game. At 1-1 in the 60something min, why push for a winner in an away game against a top side and exposing the entire team and scattering the structure? That's pure arrogance and inexperience. You all know how I love Arteta but I will say what I observed. No sentiments. |
