Illimitable: Arsenal’s fixtures were very favorable and Arteta knew his squad well enough before the season kicked off.
If ETH had left Maguire and Shaw on the bench in the first two games, United could have had 100% perfect start too.
Arsenal played against bottom 10 teams of last season and 2 newly promoted(Fulham and Bournemouth). The best team they have played in that 5 game run is Leicester at the Emirates which United put away in a 2nd gear last night away from home.
I want to see Arsenal against a top 6 side before I am convinced they have turned a corner. Unless ETH gets his line up wrong, United should beat Arsenal convincingly on Sunday.
This overhyped Arsenal team will not beat Klopp’s Liverpool that ETH put away. That's a very good point. So let them start with Man United?

ObaIgwe1: Edu wanted Arsenal to have 25 players in the senior squad. He told ESPN Brazil what his plans were for the summer. He said, “I want 22 outfield players and three goalkeepers if we can afford it and don’t have to change the team as much as we have to.” Many things need to be set up, which takes time, so I expect to have a busy summer.”
Luiz would have been the 25th player on the team, but the club didn’t get him. This leaves the club short. The Gunners already have injuries and have to deal with four competitions, so it could be more complicated than it needs to be.
But what will help Arsenal is that the group has a lot of different skills? Ben White has already shown that he is good at this by filling in at right back and keeping Takehiro Tomiyasu, who is now healthy, out of the starting eleven.
When you look at the picture below, it’s clear that the Gunners have three players for each position. But to cover Mikel Arteta, nine of the eleven roles require a player to play out of work (highlighted in yellow in the graphic below).
The right-wing position stands out the most. Marquinhos and Reiss Nelson are both much less experienced than Bukayo Saka, and Reiss Nelson is currently out injured for a few weeks. This makes Bukayo Saka look like he is all alone.
Arsenal wanted to sign Raphinha earlier in the window, but Barcelona quickly stopped this from happening. Even though the club was linked to more wide players, they never came close to signing one, and Nicolas Pepe was still allowed to leave on loan.
Arteta said that the club only wants good players to join this summer. It’s a good policy, and it’s helped the club get where it is in the league. Still, people will ask if they didn’t hurt the potential of their season by not maybe lowering expectations, especially when it comes to players like Tielemans. The latter never impressed the club enough to make an official offer.
This weekend, Arsenal plays Manchester United, who have won their last three games. One of the two teams’ winning streaks will end on Sunday, and if it’s Arsenal, the wrong end to the transfer window and dropped points could make things a lot worse.
epl247.co.uk Thanks for this. I feel we have a good squad of young and developing players. The good part is that they are unpredictable in the sense that other teams cannot guage their performance level which means they can spring surprises. |

No how arsenal will bid an official bid of 20m for Luiz, Aston Villa will reject it and request for at least 40m, and one of Fabrizio Romano, David Orstein or Kayak Kayna would not have any idea of it or report it even if na secret cult.

Arsenal submit official 20m bid for D.Luiz and I don't know. I mean, even nobody reported it here?? It's not everything that is open to public consumption. Even me self doubted the rumours seriously. Do you know that most transfer are initiated with bids from agents and not the club's themselves which causes some of those rumours we hear. As in, someone would go to a club and place a bid for a player on behalf of any club, if the bid is accepted they take it to the club they wish to represent for activation. |

Jodera: I feel we planned to get Danilo of Palmeiras at either Jan or next summer but injury to Elneny scuppered the plan. Moreover I thought Elneny's contract is up next season as he signed a 1-year extension
As for Saka deputy, we don't know how Marquinhos will play yet. I can't use the u-21 to judge him at all. Except if he shines in Europa will I confidently say Marquinhos is his deputy. As for Nelson, Una wey still dey keep hope for that guy dey try sha. He hasn't impressed me yet one bit, so I dunno how he'll be a viable Saka replacement. Is he even Left footed sef?. Maybe if Jesus can play there, but he himself isn't even left footed My mind tells me Arteta will use Marquinhos and Nelson as the wingers in Europa and cup games, while Nketiah will be a general backup for the entire frontline as he can play across. If Saka focuses on PL he won't burn out. Nketiah can be a sub in PL but start Europa and cup games. We can only hope injuries won't scatter plans. |

Roland17: After last season, I think we all agreed we needed another midfielder; an experienced one with quality at that. I kept harping on the need for that 2nd midfielder. It is quite disappointing, especially when you consider Partey's absence and a lack of another quality midfielder cost us top 4 last season. Now, we are without Partey, Elneny is also out and I am hearing Ramsdale is fighting to stay up.
The thing with Partey and his injuries is that they are usually muscular and he requires a lot of time and patience to fully recover. Whenever we rush Partey back, it has always back fired with serious consequences...If he recovers fully he typically returns like he was not gone. I feel like many are getting carried away by Xhaka. Personally, I feel like we are being short changed of a better CM when he plays that role. I am careful not be sound pessimistic because the guys have started very well and Arteta has managed our last 3 games very very well.
All in all, my focus is on United. You are absolutely correct. I remember we all were united on the fact that we need someone as Partey's backup. It's so sad that it wasn't possible. Let's just hope Lokonga can turn to a prime Sergio Bousquet. Sometimes it's situations like this that helps discover talent. Players like Bellerin, Saka, Nketiah, etc were all discovered at similar times as this. For Bellerin, I remember we signed someone on deadline day who never featured due to injury and we had to manage Bellerin. So even when the player returned, it happened that we didn't need him anymore. Who can remind me of that player? |

Jodera: Lol, I don't think it's wickedness. After watching a clip on skysports where one of the presenters was saying that arsenal really underestimated their "No stance" as they don't need Arsenal's money. Aston Villa is jointly owned by 2 billionaires with them worth around $12bn so what is 25m to them. Except we go for crazy bid, which obviously we don't do, Aston Villa won't be coerced in selling one of their best players and will instead prefer to lose him for free cos money no be their problem.
The thing is arsenal wasn't even interested in him from beginning. Na injury to Elneny naim cause all these things if not wetin concern dem with D.Luiz. If he was that important the way they were aggressively putting bids ystdy, arsenal would have wrapped up that position since Arsenal actually went for him weeks earlier with £20m but Aston Villa refused to deal less than £40m. But Edu felt after our match with them he may force their hands on deadline day feeling they wouldn't want to lose him for free next year. But it seems Aston Villa chose to gamble between losing him and finding themselves in relegation battle by January. |

As far as I am concerned, there are only 2 available top 4 spots remaining because City and Liverpool are guaranteed 2. Arsenal/ Chelsea/ United/ Spuds will battle for the remaining 2. With Newcastle and Westham as dark horses.. Someone said we should be winning the league not thinking of top 4 |

daveP: Lokonga had nothing specific to do cos we controlled throughout. Under pressure, his actual game will be assessed and the previous ones shows he still has a lot lot to learn. Especially his awareness. That awareness will make his decision making faster cos he will know who and who not to track or tackle.

BlueRayDick: Lokonga didn’t do anything spectacular in the game worth mentioning . I can count the number of times he contested for the ball in the middle and never won any duel till at a point he did and I commended him for that on this thread . He just keeps getting shrugged off the ball in aerial duels in the middle of the park.
Thank God for the Xhaka reborn we are witnessing before our very own eyes , yesterday could’ve been disastrous if we didn’t control the midfield with Xhaka spraying passes, switching direction of play and connecting well with Martinelli on the left .
If I’m to list the top 5 performers out of the 11 on the pitch yesterday , Lokonga wouldn’t even make 6th . We had Jesus , Martinelli , Ben white , Xhaka , Saka , Gabriel , Saliba ,(In no particular order ) …. All at their A-game yesterday , yet u want apology for Lokonga keeping it simple and not losing his head amongst his peers? Nah Bro He doesn't have to do anything spectacular. He only had to do his job. He did it contrary to your negative opinion on him. The way you are sounding now na so you sound before? Sing a song for me |

Jodera: If we're on back foot, I would look at the offensive plays then . You'll only know how good a player is when there's pressure and not When there's none. Example is Nketiah ystdy. His offensive play was great even when we were on the defensive and that helped us to relieve pressure very well, same as ESR ystdy.
Well, I'll rate him 7/10. Like I said he really impressed me gaan ystdy. Everything about his attacking play was spot on. His progressive play, his ball recycling, his short and long passes, his decision making. It was really great So when am I expecting your official apology and praise song?

Jodera: Lol, I'm never expecting Lokonga to give Partey performance, Infact, I said I was impressed with his game. If he can just add a little more defensively in his game I wouldn't mind him starting Tbh. If he indeed was blocking passing lanes, I would have seen him doing lots of interceptions but I didn't sha. There was I reason I said he was positionally poor defensively ystdy and that's because even those passing lanes blockade, he was found wanting.
He just needs to be good defensively at least. But in terms of attacking attributes, he's one of the reasons we dominated Aston Villa. Him try wella no doubts In a game we dominated you shouldn't expect many defensive stats but rather offensive. Assuming we were on the back foot then your analysis would make more meaning to me. But let's disagree to agree, give him a rating over ten. Two people gave 5/10, and 7/10 respectively. What's yours ... |

Jodera: My Thoughts On The Game
1... Our Press — There's something Jence.jyde(pardon me If I spelt it incorrectly biko) always say about the 1st 15min of every game and how it tells you how ready or not a team is prepared to take all 3points available and from our first 5 matches, we've always always started on the front foot with good pressing and aggressiveness. This mostly unsettles the opposition, their game plan and rhythm. It's no wonder our first goals mostly comes within an average minutes of first 25min. Shout out to Odegaard, Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus for always leading the press from the front, never stop running and always blocking passing lanes(Odegaard is very very good at this especially ystdy match). This enables teams to always punt long balls up for Saliba and Gabriel to easily win as we easily gain back possession. Kudos to Arteta and great work from him!!!
2.. It's always terrifying for defenders to face Gabriel Jesus cos this guy can't allow you to rest one bit. What's more is that with his average height he still tends to win lots of aerial ball not even because of outjumping defenders aerially but by just application of sense — simple nudge on the defender to unsettle them, the compete for the ball with the aerial height is reduced. He's done this time and time again and ystdy was no different. Another thing is how he links up play with Midfield and before you know it, you're already seeing him in the opponent's box. Sharp alertness to pounce on the rebound by Martinez to get us the first goal. Great game overall
3... Abeg, who give us this Xhaka cos this is not the Xhaka we knew all these while. I mean, where was these Xhaka all these years?? This guy is more creative, more sharp, really attacking and was everywhere on the pitch. One minute he's in the Midfield dictating play and bullying Aston Villa, the next minute he's making runs into the box for an attack, the very next he's defending and helping Sambi in the middle of the park. His presence was really felt ystdy. He seems to be enjoying this new system and it has really improved his other facets of the game. More of this from him as he seems to be improving every week. Like I said last week, goodluck to anybody that wants to bench him
4... All our subs where very very impressive ystdy as there wasn't a drop in quality by any one of them with the pick of the bunch being Nketiah and Tomiyasu. Nketiah really held the ball well, beat his man and made sure we escape pressure anytime we won the ball and Villa wanted to press us when the wanted the 2nd goal. A really excellent game from him. Tomi on the other hand really lockdown that RHS defensively both aerially and ground duels while doing his job attackingly. Same for Smith Rowe and Holding whose influence helped us to see out the game.
5... Kudos to our front 3 ystdy. The mentality these 3 have are top notch. Saka still not at his usual best but still very decent enough to make things happen and was unsurprisingly revived when Tomi was introduced. Martinelli capped his wonderful performance with a very nice goal. Easily Motm for me. How much did we say we bought nobodinho again?
6... Sambi had a great game. I was really really impressed with his game to be honest. Good composure under pressure, silky passes both long and short, know when to keep things simple and know when to drive ball forward and when to recycle the ball effectively. He was really immense ystdy. But that's the positives. He really underwhelmed defensively and his positioning defensively was poor. Xhaka and Odegaard really helped him defensively with their A-game pressing and tackling else we would have been cooked. I'm concerned about him against Man u not because of his attacking attributes but will his Defensive frailties come to the fore? Shout out to our defence. Really did a great job ystdy. Just unlucky for the goal.
7.. I hardly say this but then, did ref and Var really want us to drop point ystdy?? How was Saka not given a penalty for the way Mings blantantly "fling " him away. I mean what could be more clear than that. I was still reeling about that then their goal happened. Please is there anybody that can give any honest but logical reason why that goal stood? This is the first time I'm seeing a keeper clearly impeded and held in his own area even while struggling to get to the ball, yet Var officials still deemed it a goal. Omo!!. I don't want to even talk about the roughs those guys where doing as if they want to kill our players Thank God for our quick response, and clean undoubted goals if not, maybe dem fit chalk one off as offside. Lastly these guys mentality isn't talked about enough
Hope Martin Odegaard will be fit for weekend's match.
#Top of the table #5/5 #tough match at the weekend #COYG!!!! All your views are spot on, except the later part on Lokonga. He was never going to give a Partey performance but he did exceptionally well within his abilities. He is not the type that goes hard defending and that's exactly what the manager wants. He job defending is to take up spaces and block passing lanes. This he did well. Which informs the number of shots by Aston Villa and our dominance of the game. |
