I've watched Pepe play for a while now and I have seen he's the kind of player that always wants the ball to be played at his feet, then given time to take whatever decision he wishes to take in the opposition's half.....We all know the fast pace of EPL will not allow this.

I've instances where Bellerin and sometimes ESR hope Pepe makes a run so they can combined 1-2 passes but pepe just stays put and wants the ball at his feet. I'm really worried he may not amount to much if he keeps expecting to be give breathing space in the EPL. As much as I hate to say this, If u look at Zaha closely u will see what makes him edge Pepe is that urgency, tenacity and willingness to take on his man as soon he receives the ball, moves into spaces when not with the ball and finally making runs that encourages the midfielders/Fullbacks want to pick u out. That's what dem Salah do, they make the midfielders/Fullbacks look good because they combine well.

He has to adapt or lose his place. Already everyone thinks Saka is better in the position than him despite his price tag.

It's also important we understand the player type and let the coach find better ways to use him.

From my observation, Pepe is good on one one situations but that's when he is in the box. That's why he does well with a attacking RB (as some noted) since the RB allows him to drift into the box while receiving the ball.

If he wants to make himself a potent attacking threat, Pepe must always find himself inside the box. To do this, he will need a creative AM and the RB to create an overload on the RW, so he can then make the run towards the bye line where he can either cut in and shoot or square to the striker. In other words he should be playing as the second striker - something similar to Salah.

Movement and awareness. Bar one or two slips his first touch movement and awareness were just quality. A Sambi Partey Odegard and Smith Rowe midfield would be mouth watering.

What I saw today albeit a young west Brom side was faster transition and one touch two touch football. Xhaka is still error prone and until Partey comes back the jury is still out there as to what that midfield should be.

Not expecting a result against city but expecting a good performance making sure city earns the point and not just going there to roll over with indisciplined display.

As for that Rb position, I know most people are saying that the Rb is not helping Pepe(,be it chambers or Cedric), but one thing I do feel is that, that's the tactical instruction from Arteta. He gives only Tierney the license to move forward while his opposite number tends to drift into midfield when we're attacking. I don't know the reason for that, but that's the main reason Pepe or any other person Manning that wing always struggle (maybe aside saka). Pepe thrived more at LW, even Willian surprisingly gives better performance at LW last season compared to the Rw.
And I think that's the reason for bellerin benching cos I don't feel bellerin will want to be conservative when he truly knows he's not

Absolutely. I think Arteta restricts Chambers movement forward. He likes to switch his players position during attacking and defending phases probably to trick the opponent. But it obviously isn't working.

The formation you gave isn't bad but then, there are some mainstays in Arteta team that are sure to start wen fit. We all love lokonga but be sure to know that xhaka will fill in that spot sadly wen partey returns. Also Chambers for right back. So you see why I'm not so effusive even wen all our players are fit?

Another thing is that in as much as I know that Arteta is unlucky and not at fault for the injuries and illnesses of the first teamers, but even our pattern of play leaves much to be desired. He just made me remember wen I learnt Pes new and how the only way I could attack is through cross and cross. No ingenuity, no nothing.
