kodded: Leicester quoted £60m for maddison and he was eager to join us.
Before the Euros, man city wanted £60m for sterling
We spent £138m this transfer window, so tell me how would it be difficult?
Edit: his tactis is just like pep tactis which require 2 CM to feed the striker and assit the wingers and fullbacks
Basically that's why pep always chooses 4-3-3, because it allow two 8's to roam the midfiled while a sindle pivot DM to shield the defense from counter.
But arteta is using same tactics in a 4-2-3-1 formation which means unlike pep style of play that required two 8's that assisted the attackers thereby increases the creativity in the team especially through the middle. Arteta plays with a lone 10 who is charged with the burden of providing support in both the left and right areas of the pitch all by himself and obviously our current 10 lacks the experience to play that position in full effect. This analysis you put up there is top notch. Kudos. Let's see how things can improve with Ødegaard. Stop associating with useless iamoyindamola, or shameless kokaneprodigy, they will make you stupid as they are. |

kodded: It has everything to do with personnel bro
If you replace xhaka, pepe and ESR with partey, sterling and maddison in that team, chelsea wouldn't have gotten it easy today, am I lying?
Modify : we spent £138m
Sterling and maddison would have come for £120m while lokonga will come for the remaining £18m Your personel should determine your tactics. We can blame those lads all we want, but if the tactics is wrong even fighting spirit will disappear. Check out Kante under Lampard and now. I can't say more. On the bolded... You think you will go to Man City and pluck Sterling? Leicester is never going to sell Maddison this summer. To sign Ramsdale from championship club was a headache not to talk of forcing teams better than you to sell their best players. We fans don't realise how difficult it is to get choice players. It would be nice to get those players, but it's not gonna happen. You have to think of other options than what you put up there. |

Roland17: Every loss has a recurring theme! Arteta has absolutely no knowledge of tactics, understanding and interpreting what he is seeing on the pitch. It does not take a miracle to see where we were struggling but Arteta does not make any changes to our tactics, he continues with the same crap through till 90 minutes. This is not about fight bro! You fight when you have the right strategy.. When you fight with the wrong plan/ tactic/ strategy, it would look like you are not fighting and that is what we are seeing week in week out.
I expected Arteta to come out of the break with a back 3 but he does not, he continues with the rubbish doughnut offense. Guess what? We have run Tierney to the ground. Most of our players look like they have absolutely no clue what they are doing or are supposed to be doing on the pitch. Auba entered and looked anonymous. This is not about experience or the best player..Our coach is failing to do the simple things required of a coach during games..
Is this any different from last season? This is Deja Vu all over again. A slow start that gets worse and by the time you say jack the season is gone..This is without the distraction of Europe oh. Our match day performances are testimonies to the truth that we are not training well. Tierney and Mari both had horrible showings and if you ask me, I would suggest benching Tierney.. Hopefully, that may help Arteta realize other methods of attacking. I can't say more really. Even Championship coaches know what to do when they face big teams. See how Tottenham handled Man City last week. Arteta should have started with the U23s honestly. He is learning this trade with our first team and emotions. |

kodded: That £50 million could have gotten us a marquee player like maddison or sterling
While dino and saliba mount the defense over players like Mari
I doubt if lukaku would have gotten a fun day with dino or saliba to be honest It's the way you put it. It's our failure to get quality midfielders and not the decision to sign White. After all he didn't play. But let me tell you, we had a similar team when we beat them twice last season. So where's your judgement? The coach's tactics was poor today simple. |

Roland17: Hibernian 2-1 Arsenal
Rangers 2-2 Arsenal
Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal
Tottenham 1-0 Arsenal
Brentford 2-0 Arsenal
Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal
Manchester City next! Losing to Chelsea or City, is not the problem. Not putting up a fight is. This team lacked structure going forward, they are so inexperienced. That's why we would still need the likes of Lacazette (unless we get a proper replacement). City will definitely dominate the ball, so why not eat up the spaces. A good manager will know how to use his pacy players to curtail such teams. We need to revert to a defensive 3-4-3 or 3-5-2. That's the best formation this team can play. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 7:08pm On Aug 22, 2021 |
Roland17: We are totally outnumbered/ outmanned in the midfield which has left our defense blank open. We are playing a 4-2-3-1 and playing a high press, what does that do? Well, Chelsea are playing a 3-4-2-1..Do the math.. Here lies the problem. Arteta doesn't understand his team and opponents. He doesn't read the game. We lost because we were outnumbered knowing fully well that we couldn't have competed with Chelsea in the middle. Starting Martinelli as CF, means he won't play back to goal, so he'll need space to run, same as Pepe. The best formation for these players is a simple 3-5-1 or 3-4-3 defensive. Mtchew! |

swiz123: I am still well aware of his weakness. I once told you this here. Every player has a weakness, that's why they are human.
What a good manager does is to find the best approach to shield his players' weaknesses from opponents. You and airmark made fun of Rudiger... Now look at him under TT.
Raumdeuter warned us that all our players were playing poorly and it was Lampard's fault.. You wouldn't hear of this.. We slandered Rudiger,Kepa, Jorginho, even Kante was not spared. But the biggest problem was starring at us in the face and you and your herds didn't know it or pretended not to.
When we got rid of the pest, our seeds started bearing fruits and in less than 5 months, our harvest was bountiful. After all the evidence against you, you still get strength to type? Man court don rise. Go home. You've lost this case. Judgement for Ibime. |

ObaIgwe1: By the way,
Who are the 7 players that left the club? (David Luiz, Joe Willock, Mat Ryan, Dani Ceballos, Matteo Guendouzi, William Saliba, Dinos Mavropanos) or he talking about the likes Willian that have to go?
And does the bold means we have closed market? I have earlier expressed the fear (same did Roland17) that had we not sold Willock we would not have done the Odegaard deal. At this point we would be lucky to have more signings. Aoaur is available for less than 20m now. Tottenham is interested. This is a player we courted last summer, has our interest changed? I think the failure to sell off Xhaka has left us handicapped in that CM position. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 8:05pm On Aug 20, 2021 |
ObaIgwe1: Now let us be realistic here. I know there are better qualities we could have signed but Arsenal is not in good position to attract them cos we are out of Europe and because we don't have big money to spend. We are not in the position to even think of buying players like Grealish or Kane or Lukaku not to mention the likes of Messi or Ronaldo.
That said. The few players we got this time, aside the cost of White and maybe Ramsdale are quality addition. They are definitely improving us from the point we were before them. White is better and younger than Luiz, some of us are already asking for Lokonga to bench Xhaka, We know the quality of Odegaard and how he improved the team last season half, and we are better of with the backups we newly got... Now Leno also knows he has to improve or he falls to 2nd position.
And looking at the age bracket, including some of those we newly signed from our academy, it is obvious we are building a team for the future. Our team average age should be the lowest in decades.
Yes our team has improved... though we could have been much more better. IF Arteta get his act right, we should still make top 6 and from next season we can start competing for top 4. All things being equal,(here implying that Arteta's head doesn't reboot) if Partey is fit, none of our new signings will be in the first team. That's apart from Odegaard, but he was here last season. The squad may be better in terms of balance (a backup LB), but the team is not really stronger as we have only done like for like replacements- Lokonga for Ceballos, White for Luiz, Ramsdale for Ryan. To strengthen the team, we need to do one more big signing. Either we get a better striker to displace Aubameyang, a better CM to displace Xhaka, etc. My concern is that we have spent 129m, which I believe is enough to improve the quality of the team. |

Coutinho and/or Maddison!!

You're assuming that the Auba/Coutinho swap will happen. As per the bolded, common man! You want to bench our StarBoy and future Messi? And don't be surprised to see Laca and Auba uptop again with Auba shunted out wide.
To be sincere, 1½ season plus into Arteta reign, I still don't know our standard 11

ndidibabe: I appreciate your honest submission. This has been the case since Wenger left anyway. Yes. Our owners failed to meet up with the demands of English club ownership of this modern era, coupled with poor decisions in manager selections, and player recruitments. The rising qualities of teams like Aston Villa, West Ham, added to Tottenham, Leicester, etc makes the situation even more scary. 3years from now I don't want to be watching the Championship instead of the Champions League. But na so e dey start. |
