So how is Henderson who is a midfielder now a defender? He's not even a DM but a CM sef. But even if he's a DM, A Midfielder is never a defender. Don't muddle up positions to prove your point.

The player of the year is Kdb. That is the renowned player of the year. Your Dias point will only make sense if no man city player won EPL player of the year or if dias himself won EPL player of the year. Kdb winning EPL player of the year disproves Dias award cos one award is way way greater than the other. We all know who won man city the league and it's Kdb not Dias grin
Please get my point straight. I did not say EPL player of the year, I said the club's player of the year. The former may be more superior than the latter, but the club and coach in particular knows where their actual strength lies. They chose Dias not KDB.

As for Henderson, tactically he was a defender. Check their playing patterns. It's like saying Salah was a winger, but he was a striker tactically. TAA was a full back but a winger tactically.

The bolded is a big false.

Also Manchester city won the premier league last season. The EPL player of the season is a midfielder from man city.

With your examples, defence wins you league in da mud!!
Henderson (DM) was POTS when Liverpool won the league.

Ruben Dias (CB) for City when they won the league.

Instead of just refuting my claims, why don't you state yours.

I agree with you that the hype generated has become a tad much but you have to be aware that he did not create the hype, it’s an England thing. When I started raving about him in 2020, not a lot of people knew him but you are also right, he does control how the hype affects him and that is where Arsenal also come in.

While the positioning and results have not really being the best over the last 2-3 seasons now, Arsenal U23 under Per have done a better job at not only honing the skills of good prospects but expanding their skill set. He has also protected them from distractions and instilling some discipline win them.

It will be interesting to see how 2023/2024 shapes up for both players.
It was you who actually first drew my attention towards him a couple of years ago. You have that eye, I must confess.

Can Per transition into the first team? His lads tend to do well. Check out Omari Hutchinson, Taylor Hart etc. He's like a Wenger, that cool headed off the spotlight father figure that nurtures talent.

The hype around him is becoming too much similar to what happened with Wilshere. He needs to avoid such distractions.

Probably his mind is still to play here. He has a good chance as Lacazette will be leaving next season and Aubameyang the season after that. If he joins a lower team, he may end up like Afobe.

I think the minimum consolation talk the fans and worker can accept from the CEO and Arteta is that we will do all that is needed to be done and be back in top 6 in the immediate and gradually progress to the top 4 afterwards.... every other talk na bullshit.
Not bad. But I think they should have this in mind without having to spell it out. This is the least we can expect.

How come you are drifting away from your claim?
You build defense first before attack. That's what Ferguson did. That's what made Arsenal successful in the Wenger era. That's what the club is doing now, and they are on the right path.

It has no definite target/specifics vs time.

For example if we end 7th or 8th or lower this season, it would remain progress to him cos his claim is that we are building for "future success"

I would have loved that he gives us his realistic target for this season and beyond... like maybe top 6 this season, and in a year or 2, we progress to top 4... that is more assuring.

Reason I agreed that we are on long season which might not end with this season except something drastic happens.
So what's your target?

But what happened to Nketiah?

At the end of the day no one bought him! or did he refuse to go or did Arsenal refuse to sell him?

So Arsenal want to let him and Laca run down their contract abi?

Any confirmed updated news on him?
Nketiah is injured which compounded everything. Hopefully we sell by Jan if he does not extend.

It's ok for me if Lacazette runs down his contract. He can return to France after that.

Personally, I think this summer transfer was a disaster. I mean, we addressed some back up issues but those are not immediate needs that can elevate this team. Outside of not addressing the immediate needs of this team, my disappointment is that the bulk of the players loaned out will return next season after their loan spells. That means we will do this over again like we have been doing over the last 2 seasons. Our leadership and coaching have shown they are slow and poor at making decisions. We will resume next season with another bloated squad which we will not address until when the season starts. Worsestill, we will be begging to terminate contracts of many of these players which is an evidence of bad decision. If you terminate one, that's fine but if terminating contracts become the norm then it raises a lot of questions on how and why those contracts were initiated in the first place.

Outside of bad coaching, our failure to figure out our squad situation early enough has been a big part of the problem. We have started 2 consecutive season with too many uncertainties and a lack of clarity about the squad. Without European competition, one would think we should be able to avoid the mistake of the previous season but no! We are doing the same thing all over again. By the time the squad situation is resolved we are already double digits outside of where we need to be to make a challenge for important positions.
Correcting the mistakes of the past won't take place overnight or in one transfer window. While I do not think we have the squad yet to compete, I feel given the right coaching, the players we have can develop into something good enough to be a foundation for the glory we seek. I am not overexpectant as there's no basis to be. But I feel we are on the right path. One or two more seasons is enough to take us to top under the right conditions.

Not only this season bro, we are in for many long seasons if something drastic doesn't happen.... Going by the statement of our board CEO, there is no ambition to be back in Europe in the immediate...

The Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has decided to contact all the Arsenal staff and players at the end of the transfer window, to assure them that, despite the awful start to the season, the long-term plan is progressing as it should.

V.V acknowledges that we have dropped far below our standards, and those of our rivals at the top of the table, but there is a strategy in place, which he has explained is to concentrate on “Europe’s most exciting young talent” that can “grow and develop together under Mikel”.

Vinai’s message was acquired by HITC, who have reported our CEO as saying: “Our approach for this window was framed by fully recognizing that we are not where we want to be on the pitch — finishing eighth last season, with no European football for the first time in many years,”

“This is well below the standards each of us all have, and of course that our fans rightly demand of us, which is to be competing for the biggest trophies in the game.

“Whilst we would love to jump from where we are to where we want to be in an instant, we need to be realistic that the gap is too large to do that. As such, our activity this window has been focused on youth.

“Our strategy is to fill our squad with some of Europe’s most exciting young talent, with players from both our academy and further afield, that can grow and develop together under Mikel to take us where we want to get to.

“Whilst this will not be overnight, we can make positive progress, and it gives us the best route to future success in a sustainable way.
What's wrong with this? It's the reality.

I believe the issue with AMN was his refusal to play as RB or RWB. But hopefully that was sorted out.

For me, the squad is decent enough to challenge for something. We are not worse than Leicester. It's now left for Arteta to win or get sacked.

Yes a manager needs to look himself in a mirror when many people are complaining about him and ultimately the board that hired the manager need to investigate and act accordingly. But I insist even in the event that all the players feel aggrieved about a manager, talking to press and disrespecting the manager is No-No. Reporting to the board and following the organisation conflict resolution procedure is the solution.

Please don't get me wrong, I do not support Arteta or what he is doing to some of the players, but creating an anarchy situation is bad for everyone...so everyone should follow the lay down procedure.
I totally agree.

Without beating around the bush, neither old nor modern management permits a subordinate to public criticize his boss without consequences - Period!

Being part of management process does not give a subordinate an effrontery to disrespect and publicly antagonize the boss / management.

This is the fact. I need a reference to any modern management concept that claims otherwise so I can collect a refund from my Professors.
That's if it is a single case. Where there are multiple cases the leader has to look at the mirror. While that does not justify the public criticism, a self assessment is worth doing.

ObaIgwe1:
I agree with you on Arteta and your squad assessment... and I dont think I ever consider Arteta's character and performance as being above average.

Also I understand this natural leader (born leader) concept, the one that becomes a leader by earning the respect of others, that is good when we are looking for a community or voluntary association leader. But corporate organisation works by rules and regulation. The office is higher than personality occupying it. Yes it is an added advantage if you are a manager and also a natural leader... But even without the leadership gift, the office must be respected and all must follow organisation rules and regulations.

And even at that, if you bring out 100 leaders, you might still get 100 different leadership styles. And we cannot even say that a particular leadership style is better than another. In certain settings like Military, Autocratic or Authoritarian leadership works better, while
Democratic or Participative leadership works better in other settings. The Laissez-faire or Free-rein leadership is not meant for many cooperate organisation. Also a leadership style that works in one organisation might fail woefully in another. So what justifies a particular leadership style is the successful result that comes after.

No one would have had problem with Arteta's leadership style even with his big ego and character if he knows what he is doing and he is successful. There are other managers with bigger ego, but they know what they are doing and no one is calling for their sack. But we know Arteta is failing, so we need a change... And I am making that call for a change too.

My difference with Roland is that he believes players should be free to express themselves as they wish, which I partly agree with but don't fully agree to. You can complain to your manager on all issues and if no result, express yourself and manager's failure to the board that hired him.... But openly criticizing your boss/manager or giving him attitude of disrespect is unprofessional. For that he thinks I am defending Arteta's actions "with my life experience", which is not true. While we give Arteta stick for his bad choices and failure, we should not also support players' insubordination, disrespect and unprofessional conduct. We must separate the two.
I think you and Roland have the same ideas but coming from different directions. My former boss once told me that as you grow higher in the management cadre, personal relationship becomes more important than technical ability. At a point in management, the way you treat your subordinate becomes more important than how good you are in the job. That's because you will no longer be doing those direct jobs but rather supervising.

Roland17 believes that Arteta's treatment of the players may have warranted their public criticism. While that is not an excuse for insubordination, (which he - Roland accepts) the manager's contributions towards that should also be questioned.

We all remember when Jose publicly criticised his players and was sacked at Chelsea, Man Utd and even Tottenham.
