Arsenal started the better side but Benfica eventually grew into the game and look quite comfortable on the ball. |

ndidibabe: Are u saying that the present Arsenal won't 'chop' 6 from that old Man City that used to punish them?
Even then, Arsenal's league position was better than this. I really do not know how people came to a conclusion that Arsenal have improved. Isn't Arsenal not 10th or 11th in the league now?
The fact that the tempo and quality of the league has really dropped which has resulted in lack of goals has hidden the fact that Arsenal can still loose embarrassingly.
Arsenal will loose to Man City again though not in an embarrassing way. This is not because Arsenal have improved but Mancity have also declined seriously. Our performances against the top 6 certainly got better, that's my point. The last time we lost with such scorelines was like 7/8years ago, since then Liverpool has won the CL and twice in the final, Chelsea EL, same with Man United, Tottenham have reached CL finals too. So it's not like these clubs are not doing well but our approach has been more pragmatic. Under Arteta, we have been a lot more stable defensively, hopefully when that stability gets to chance creation and finishing we would be seeing off teams too. |

ndidibabe: Arsenal also got worse. Pls don't talk again about this. Just wait till Arsenal meet City. We will have talking points.... What's your criteria? Your comment is speculative at best. Not that City won't/can't win but don't expect 6-0 we have improved beyond that. We have become a lot more stable to lose with such scorelines. We got better. |

Roland17: The embolden is because Arteta uses our midfielders to dictate play mostly from deep. When Xhaka/ Partey are dictating plays from deep, they are almost rendering the AM useless and they are not able to find their way into the box because they are dictating plays from deep. Most of the attempts by our midfielders are long range shots because they are arriving late to the attacking third. This is another reason there is no fluidity and movement in our attacking third.
I think some of Arteta’s tactics almost neglects the role of the AM in building his attack. Remember at the start of the season and last season, he was using our defenders to dictate plays from the back. Luiz will launch balls from the defense looking to catch them unawares. We still see this tactics but not as much as last season or early this season. Now he is using our midfield combo to do same thing from deep.
Don’t get me wrong, ESR definitely needs a break but a close observer of Arteta’s tactics will see what I just noted up there. He needs to mix it up, push the midfielders higher up when we have possession even if u want them to dictate plays. We need options inside the main box, not the edge of the box when we arrive the attacking third. Have you observed that many times Saka/ Pepe deliver balls into the box and there is no one there or maybe just Lacazette. Your observation is very accurate. The thing is that Artera priotizes defensive solidity over attacking ventures. While this has kept us respectable this season (no 6-0 loses as before, and few comical defending) our goal creation and scoring has suffered. For the midfielders to contribute to goals with this tactics, our fullbacks must learn to tuck in to midfield. But it seems Arteta prefers the fullbacks overlapping than tucking in. |

Jodera: He (Arteta) judged me on two-and-a-half matches,” Saliba told RMC Sport.
“I would have liked for him to play me more. But he told me I wasn't ready.
“I was waiting for him to give me a chance, but football is like that.”
I think Saliba is too straight forward. Yes, he might feel aggrieved but he should be diplomatic on how he says things. Things he says to media might make or Mar him. Such a thing like this ought to be said when he's no longer in the club. This could be a beer parlour discussion which some unscrupulous journalist decided to publish. |

Roland17: Nwanne, we are going to continue to lose vital points if we wait for posterity judge anything. There is an obvious bias against Arsenal and our silence especially from the owners and the top makes it even more acceptable. Arsenal is a very integral piece in the league. We have a strong fan base and financial pull when it comes to decision making in the PL and we have to start taking advantage of that.
United, City, Liverpool, Chelsea know the power of their club and their management/ owners do not fail to make strong statements against referees when it matters!
Wenger was renowned to call them out after poor performances and they placate him by reversing some of the decisions or sending the referees to a lower division for a week but now everyone just stays quiet until it happens again! Remember Wenger worked the referees and 4th officials throughout the game. He made sure to question every call/ card against us during the game and this kept the officials conscious because he had the pull effect.
We had absolutely no business losing that game and that loss can be the difference between a top 6 finish and a top 10 finish! I absolutely agree with you. We look like the sissy of the PL on who referees act as the feel without winking an eye. The problem now is Wenger is no longer around. Arteta is a rookie and the board seems more like chalkboard than brainbox. Me here can only hope on divine goodwill to exact justice. |

Roland17: I had absolutely no doubts that they will reaffirm the decision of the referee because they don’t want to look stupid. It’s time Arsenal hierarchy and coaches start speaking out about certain referees. We did not deserve to lose that game. The referee made the game about himself and won the MVP for the match. FA overturned Bednarek's red but upholds that of Luiz, though there was more contact in the first case. Southampton has requested Mike Dean to never officiate their games again. Arsenal may likewise ban the FA, because our enemies are the entire FA. We must come up with a policy to never again appeal to the FA, let them continue with their prejudice, one day posterity will fish them out. |

Jodera: but you'll agree with me var suspended play for Luiz incidence, lacazzete play but refuse to suspended play for saka own.
That's the "view" I come to understand o.
Whether they make a decision after that view is another thing entirely The moment VAR calls the ref, he must make a decision. You will always see 'VAR checking' and then something like, 'decision = red card' But none of those and that's because VAR viewed but never checked or called the referee to order. I have watched football since I knew my surname, I understand rules do change but I have seen very few or even never worse decisions in a football match. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 8:56am On Feb 03, 2021 |
Jodera: Exactly, they viewed it and waived it aside, that's why decision wasn't made. That's different from saka own that var refuse to view at all.
Like, it's just as if dem just want arsenal to lose ystdy. Even clattenburg said that Luiz red wasn't a red yesterday sef My brother, VAR views every incident. But for it to hold, they need to first call the ref to order (suspend play), then check the incident and come up with a decision to either proceed or change the ref's evaluation. In this case as is with Saka's, VAR only 'viewed' but never bothered to call for order. |

Roland17: That Luiz red card was an overkill!!! It was an unintentional contact and while I don’t question the penalty, the red card was absolutely unnecessary! It just changed the direction of the game.
Hard loss.. a very hard loss..
I have been WAILING all afternoon/ evening..
I am in SEFIA PAINS!!! We are appealing according to Arteta. Our management also need to start sounding out these refs and call them what they are. Cheats. |
