yeah, then imagine how our players will be with this kind of attitude. Tomorrow sha, we'll see a glimpse of what to expect from ljumberg.
Tho I hope he won't be given any permanent manager if the results come good, at least till the end of season. So that we won't fall into the "olé's trap"
I sincerely hope he succeeds. I want a young manager with fresh ideas. A phenomenon.

I think you're sticking away from what I asked not the other way round.
When we talk about attributes of a footballer, we talk of finishing, passes, tackles, interception, good crossing, dribble etc. Fighting spirit and confidence isn't an attribute of a footballer( tho I won't deny it's needed in football presently). So, arsenal won't miss him, if doesn't have any outstanding attribute. He doesn't give key passes, he doesn't score, he doesn't assist, he's not good aerially, he's not an effective tackler nor a good interceptor. He's not good at shielding defence nor even reading of the game. So you feel with these limitations, just fighting spirit and confidence (which isn't attribute sef) will what will mk arsenal as a team miss him, then I don't know what to say. All these hardwork without result will take a club no where.
Sanchez tracking of back and fighting spirit always yield out result, same as martinelli. I feel if martinelli is given the type of chance guen is having, perhaps we'll have more points than what we currently have.
Everyone knows ozil needs a good DM to shine and that's why he shone the season we had cazorla and coquelin as our two base players
That would be asking too much from Guendouzi.
Good point though.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 1:26pm On Nov 29, 2019
Most times we confuse being talented and being effective.

Guendouzi will not be a Fabregas, he shouldn't even be a first team player at Arsenal. But he is the most effective we have so far. Due mainly to the poor performances of other top players and the clubs mistake of not getting a proper DM. He is doing his best as a youngster. It may not be enough but surely its better than what others are offering the club right now.

Truly, I can't fault that, but are these what arsenal team will miss from him? I doubt it.
I remember Sanchez having those 2 attributes, but what endear him to fans was the skills accompanied with those. He knows how to pass, score and all that. Having those 2 ONLY will not secure you a spot in first eleven in any top club if we're sincere.
Arsenal fans adored Sanchez for one reason. His fighting spirit. How he chases after a ball even when he loses it. How he tracks his man back until he succeeds in winning back the ball. How he won't rest until we get our goal.

Bros, Ozil was more skillful than Sanchez, but his poor demeanor killed him with fans.
Fighting spirit is what most fans love in Martinelli.
Fighting spirit can be a deciding factor to make the first team.

Fighting spirit and confidence are not Guens only attributes, but what fans will miss him for according to your question. Let's stick to what you asked please.

What is glowing about Arterta? Kompany can as well be Pep's assistance and they'd still be that good..
Arterta is a risk, a big one at that, We need to see him manage a professional side, Arsenal shouldn't be a stepping stone, let him go experiment at Southampton, he doesn't necessarily need to win trophies, let's just see the stuffs he's made of before we can conclude.

It is dicey, he could be very good, average or bad, little to nothing is to be said of him atm.
You are right bro. Arteta remains a huge gamble.

But what of Allegri, you think he is hyped. He won Series A with AC Milan and then five times with Juventus, add two CL finals and you can't call it a fluke.

My head and heart goes for:

Nuno Espirito
Mauricio pochentino
Max Allegro
Mikel Arterta
Freddie Ljumberg

I already explained my reason for Nuno yesterday..
Pochentino..because he knows the league, has been in top4 in recent times with little budget, makes sensible business in windows and instils the never give up fearless spirit in his team

Allegro, to me is like an Italian Emery,(Emery even had trophies in Europe) they both cruised in a less competitive, one horse race league with all the financial backings, yet couldn't do something exceptional in Europe, but he is experienced and has a better CV than the next2 baby coach

Arterta, Dude is too raw, hasn't managed a team, money and pep does most things at city, Arterta looks too cool like a younger version of Wenger,We need a terrifying looking manager like Nuno cheesy I doubt he can handle the egoistic senior payers, however, he's played almost all his games in England, understands the league, must have learnt from Moyes,Wenger and Pep.

Ljumberg,Very similar to Arterta, hasn't managed any professional side, Arsenal shouldn't be an experimental/training ground, but he's a respected figure and can help the youngsters grow
After Pep, Zidane, etc are you still afraidvl of new managers? When its right it could be the biggest decision of the season.
Arteta has a very glowing profile already at City. He was favorite to replace Wenger, but couldn't reach an agreement with the board with respect to control. He could be the next best manager, I am warning.
Allegri has the best CV amongst all no doubt. In terms of profile, no one is anywhere near. Saying he is an Emery is a huge disrespect and sentimental reasoning.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 1:04pm On Nov 28, 2019
It has to be Max Allegri. Though I am afraid of missing out on Arteta as I feel he has the potential of becoming the next best thing. But Allegri's record cannot be ignored.

He is a serial winner.
Plays with an extremely organised set up.
Can handle ego.
Can face Jose squarely now at Spurs.
Plays with a 3-5-2 system which perfectly suits our current set of players.
Can ressurect dead woods.
Can attract the best players.
Very economical when spending.
Well known for machining out close wins even in big games.
Mature. Very mature.
Can deal with fan's pressure.

I can go on.

Jose is now at Spurs, we can't make a mistake in our next manager. A derby with Spurs and Jose looks scary right now.

He refused to replace Eduardo in Jan. That killed our season.

In 2005, he let Vieira go unceremoniously replacing him with a 16year old. Fabregas was far younger, inexperienced, smaller, less physical than Vieira. Everyone wondered how he could do that. That was until Fabregas finished Vieira's career when we beat Juventus in Turin.

Those were the men, physically and mentally strong..
I remember Henri saying after Jose Mounrinho insulted Wenger with the specialist in failure talk, that a team comprising of him,Viera, ljumberg,Kanu, Campbell and Gilberto will be psychologically drilled to do everything and win the next game against mourinho to shut him up. But when he saw those boys losing 6-0 that year, he gave up on their mental strength..

I'm a fan of players who look strong and dominant as against these sexy boys, softies and jerry curls we parade this days. cheesy grin
After Wenger won the double in 03/04 he began a personal campaign to bring the club down in order to propagate his own football gospel. The proud man chose his personal dream of winning with premature kids over the clubs vision of dominating England. Using the stadium as a cheap excuse, he tried over and over again without success. Yet he persisted. The plan became grand when he reached CL finals in 06 with little known Fabregas and Hleb in midfield and Flameni a midfielder at left back.

After losing the finals in dramatic fashion, he embarked on a wider scale by getting even worse players hoping to satisfy his lust. This man is a sadist. We lost the opportunity to sign the best young prospects then afterwards.

Now here we are.

Inasmuch as I value him as a great tactician who doesn't depend on money to win titles, I feel his pride is what have led to our present state.

Lol! everyone really wants Emery out. I agree that 4-4-2 without the right personnel would be an audacious task but when i look at Sheffield which i enjoy watching because they so remind me of the old Arsenal except they don't have the quality of players we possessed. One thing that strikes me is that they are well drilled in their organisational positioning off and on the ball consistently, no matter who they play. And i beilive if less quality players with no disrespect to them can put up consistent performances playing the system, how much more , the Arsenal team with top earners and better quality of players. It simply means either the coach does not have something to offer or the players are unable to execute what he has to offer.

And again i also agree that maybe emery should stop the tinkering and revert to the 4-3-3 which kinda suits the players at his disposal but make sure to play them in their ideal and preferred positions.

In a typical 4-4-2 (not the diamond) You have a central Mid and Defensive mId. One of the greatest lessons i learned was that you as a defensive mid(which was my position) have the utmost responsibility of protecting or shielding your back four. At no point in time unless its absolutely necessary that you should be ahead of your central mid. You must always be an angle to him no more than 15 to 12 yards apart.

This was the greatest drill and lesson that whenever i watch a game and look at the setup of the team. I keep on asking. Who is responsible for shielding the defense? If its Torreira, then why does he always have to be far ahead of Guen for no reason at times? If its Guen then why does he have to be far into the opposition box at times with no communication for torreria to cover him. There is absolutely no form of responsibility passed on to individuals in the game , hence we look so disjointed at times like secondary school students.

I remember Chelsea fans calling for Sarris head when he pushed Kante more forward but in actual fact he did nothing wrong. All he did was pass responsibility of protection to Jorghino and gave kante a new responsibility which is to press from the attack. Whether Kante is the right personell for that is debatable but when you watch Chelsea, just notice how Jorghino is hardly ever ahead of Kova or any of his other mids. The guy simply understands his role. Some coaches have choice of personell for roles which people may not agree with based on size pyshice etc ... but the key thing is that Once you are assigned a position. You need to take responsibility and play that role as instructed.

Why should a Dm and still be bursting into the box everytime to score? Is that his primary assignment?

Maybe i need to stop now as there's so much in-depth footie discuss that one can go on and on with, plus work dey tommorow jare
I tell you my brother, we also have our own work to do.

You were absolutely spot on about the DM issue which has been one of major problems. I feel Emery doesn't want to assign that duty. Some coaches preferred a dynamic centre where all attack and defend. A good example is Liverpool. But like you said, it takes proper drilling and continuity, consistency and regular practice to achieve. Wenger was known for this. A testimony to his stubbornness anyway.

Emery tinkers a lot even within games, sometimes using systems that are far apart in execution, leaving the players more confused.

Did you notice the second goal we conceded against Soton came when we were actually accending in attack, but lost shape in defence, leading to the penalty

Shame how the stats this stats that is what is now used to judge players. Really laughable it is. Back then all the coaches needed were to see what you did in training and what you consistently delivered game after game for them to know if truly you would become a success in the sport.

I look at this present arsenal team and in my opinion , its not a bad squad at all, its just needs a better coach at the moment. Bar a few players that are not up to scratch especially in the defense and midfield, its a decent squad that should be challenging for trophies.

Watching the last game and seeing Auba who is supposed to be scoring goals upfront having to track down runners on either side of the fullback positions at times was worrisome. Taking off Hector when you switched to a 4-4-2 after it seemed the 3-5-2 was not working and not replacing with another fullback was also confusing as it left so much gap on that side that gave southampton more than enough chance win the game by a clear margin.

By the way i am a lover of 4-4-2 and the best years of Arsenal was when we played 4-4-2 imho with Henry Bergkamp up top. Frediie and Pires either side of the midfield and Ray/Viera/Gilberto in the middle with one as central and one as defensive mid. The back four picked it self with Keown, Adams, Silvigno and the Camerounian(cant remeber the name now). and of course David Seaman in Goal. Every player understood their roles and i cant ever remember Henry having to be tracking a winger back all the time or Dennis Bergkamp defending on the wings... Its just absurd to see the lack of organization with Emery's constant tinkering when honestly he should just have stuck with his 4-3-3 and improve on it.

The greatest undoing of ours was not the system we played but Wenger failing to replace the players that had given him so much success with the system. we went from Henry to Shamack and Sanogo and from Viera to Denillson and co. Altogether AW now had to change his system to accommodate less skilled players when we could have used money from the sales of the good ones to get like for like replacements and ensure continuity. This is where Sir Alex and Diego Simeone got it right. Once a High profile player was sold, the money was re-invested to near or better quality of that player so that he fits seamlessly into the system rather than buy a less better player and start having problems only to change the system entirely.

Well i hope one day , we will hire a top manager who will stick to his style and only procure the right personell to execute his style come rain or shine
Good point.

Just to add, we can't play a 4-4-2 because we lack that big mobile guy in midfield. Our midfield would be out run like they don't exist. Plus our useless defence. They will just die of shots.
A 4-3-3 should be OK, but that's what we are getting whooped for. Our defence can't survive on their own and need the midfield to cover so much space for them. This will make the system disjointed and weaken our attack.
4-5-1 may suit us better. It means no inverted wingers as we have currently.

More importantly, that I am typing all this bull craps shows we have a very useless manager who doesn't know his job.

It’s a precarious situation one I didn’t want us to be in.
We would be extremely lucky to reach top 4 at this point. Liverpool and City had already allocated two spaces for themselves, Chelsea are our direct rivals and are targeting the spot, Leicester are the inform team at the moment and does not seem to look back. The have already collected three points from us this season.

Worse is that its not like we are fifth, the teams above and below (United and Spurs) are already geared up to fight.

I look at the end of the tunnel and all I see is doom and gloom.
